Abstract
BACKGROUND Individuals with myelomeningocele (MMC) present with neurological and orthopaedic deficiencies, requiring orthoses during walking. Orthoses for counteracting dorsiflexion may restrict activities such as rising from a chair. RESEARCH QUESTION How are sit-to-stand (STS) movements performed with ankle joint-restricted ankle-foot orthoses (AFO) and knee-ankle-foot orthoses with a free-articulated knee joint (KAFO-F)? METHODS Twenty-eight adults with MMC, mean age 25.5 years (standard deviation: 3.5 years), were divided into an AnkleFree group (no orthosis or a foot orthosis) and an AnkleRestrict group (AFOs or KAFO-Fs). Study participants performed the five times STS test (5STS) while their movements were simultaneously captured with a three-dimensional motion system. Centre of mass (CoM) trajectories and joint kinematics were analysed using statistical parametric mapping. RESULTS The AnkleRestrict group performed the STS slower than the AnkleFree group, median 8.8 s (min, max: 6.9, 14.61 s) vs 15.0 s (min, max: 7.5, 32.2 s) (p = 0.002), displayed reduced ankle dorsiflexion (mean difference: 6°, p = 0.044) (74-81 % of the STS cycle), reduced knee extension (mean difference: 14°, p = 0.002) (17-41 % of the STS cycle), larger anterior pelvic tilt angle (average difference: 11°, p = 0.024) (12-24 % of the STS cycle), and larger trunk flexion angle (on average 4°, p = 0.029) (6-15 % of the STS cycle). SIGNIFICANCE The differences between the AnkleFree and AnkleRestrict groups in performing the STS seem consistent with the participants functional ambulation: community ambulation in the AnkleFree group, and household and nonfunctional ambulation with less hip muscle strength in the majority of the AnkleRestrict group. No differences in the 5STS CoM trajectories or the kinematics were found with respect to the AFO and KAFO-Fs groups. Because orthoses are constructed to enable walking, the environment needs to be adjusted for activities in daily living such as the STS movement.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Non-randomized clinical trial. OBJECTIVES Examine the feasibility, physical and psychosocial effects of a high intensity functional training (HIFT) exercise program for people with spinal cord injury (pSCI) and their care partners (CPs). SETTING Community fitness center in a Medically Underserved Area (Fort Smith, USA.) METHODS: A single-group design with three assessment points (before the program, at midpoint (13 weeks), and post-program (25 weeks) was used to examine the effects of up to 49 HIFT sessions over 25-weeks. Sessions were 60 to 75 min in duration and adapted to the abilities of participants. Feasibility measures included recruitment, retention, attendance, safety and fidelity (exercise intensity rated via session-Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE). Physical measures included cardiovascular endurance, anaerobic power, and muscular strength. Psychosocial measures included perceived social support for exercise, exercise self-efficacy and health-related quality of life. RESULTS Fourteen pSCI (7 with paraplegia and 7 with tetraplegia, 2 females) and 6 CPs (4 females) were included (median age = 60) (IQR = 15.8). Recruitment rates were 40% for pSCI and 32% for CPs. On average, participants attended 73% (22%) of exercise sessions with a median session-RPE of 5 (IQR = 1). Retention rates were 83% and 67% for pSCI and CPs, respectively. For pSCI and their CPs, large effect sizes were observed for cardiovascular endurance, anaerobic power, muscular strength, and social support for exercise. CONCLUSIONS For pSCI and their CPs, HIFT appears feasible and potentially leads to improvements in physical and psychosocial health for both groups.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Sit-to-stand (STS) movement is fundamental in daily life. STS tasks have been used to assess lower limb muscle strength, balance control, and functional abilities in various populations, but limited information is available on their use in older individuals with knee osteoarthritis. OBJECTIVE We here examined the intra-rater, inter-rater, and test-retest reliability of the 30-s and 5-time STS tests, and calculated the standard error of measurement (SEM) and minimal detectable change (MDC). Moreover, we explored the concurrent validity of these tests by analysing their correlation with knee muscle strength, pain, stiffness, and physical function in older adults with knee osteoarthritis. METHOD This cross-sectional study included 60 older participants diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis. Baseline demographic information and data on pain, stiffness, and physical function using the modified Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis (WOMAC) were obtained. Participants performed the 30-s and 5-time STS tests as well as knee muscle strength assessment using a hand-held dynamometer. After 1 week, 30 participants were reassessed to evaluate test-retest reliability. RESULTS The 30-s and 5-time STS tests had excellent intra-, inter-, and test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficients: 0.990-1.000, 0.996-0.999, and 0.841-0.853, respectively) with a large SEM and MDC. Both STS tests significantly correlated with knee extensor and flexor strength and all modified WOMAC domains (Pearson's correlation coefficients: 0.28-0.61, p < 0.05). CONCLUSION The 30-s and 5-time STS tests are reliable assessment tools and correlate with knee muscle strength, pain, stiffness, and physical function in older adults with knee osteoarthritis. Key Points • The 30-s and 5-time STS test can serve as surrogate measures in various aspects of knee health, including muscle strength, pain levels, stiffness, and overall physical function, in older adults with knee osteoarthritis. • Both these STS tests are dependable tools, accessible for both experienced and inexperienced assessors to administer effectively.

Abstract
This is a protocol for comprehensive analysis of gait and affecting factors in individuals with incomplete paraplegia due to spinal cord injury (SCI). A SCI is a devastating event affecting both sensory and motor functions. Due to better care, the SCI population is changing, with a greater proportion retaining impaired ambulatory function. Optimizing ambulatory function after SCI remains challenging. To investigate factors influencing optimal ambulation, a multi-professional research project was grounded with expertise from clinical rehabilitation, neurophysiology, and biomechanical engineering from Karolinska Institutet, the Spinalis Unit at Aleris Rehab Station (Sweden's largest center for specialized neurorehabilitation), and the Promobilia MoveAbility Lab at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Ambulatory adults with paraplegia will be consecutively invited to participate. Muscle strength, sensitivity, and spasticity will be assessed, and energy expenditure, 3D movements, and muscle function (EMG) during gait and submaximal contractions will be analyzed. Innovative computational modeling and data-driven analyses will be performed, including the identification of clusters of similar movement patterns among the heterogeneous population and analyses that study the link between complex sensorimotor function and movement performance. These results may help optimize ambulatory function for persons with SCI and decrease the risk of secondary conditions during gait with a life-long perspective.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the effects of anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) combined with overground gait training on gait performance, dynamic balance, sit-to-stand performance, and quality of life in individuals with incomplete spinal cord injuries (iSCI). DESIGN Double-blind sham-controlled trial with a matched-pair design. SETTING Sirindhorn National Medical Rehabilitation Institute, Thailand. PARTICIPANTS Individuals with iSCI (n=34) were allocated to the anodal or sham groups. INTERVENTION Anodal tDCS was administered over the M1 lower-limb motor area at an intensity of 2 mA for 20 min in the anodal group, while the sham group received a 30-s stimulation. Both groups received 40 min of overground gait training after tDCS for 5 consecutive daily sessions. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The 10-meter walk test (10MWT) was the primary outcome, while spatiotemporal gait parameters, the timed Up and Go test, Five-Time Sit-to-Stand Test, and World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF were secondary outcomes. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, post-intervention, and at 1-month (1M) and 2-month (2M) follow-ups. RESULT Improvements in walking speed measured using the 10MWT were observed in both groups. However, the anodal group showed a greater improvement than the sham group. For fast speed, the mean between-group differences were 0.10 m/s, 95% CI (0.02 to 0.17) (post-intervention), 0.11 m/s, (0.03 to 0.19) (1M), and 0.11 m/s, (0.03 to 0.20) (2M), while for self-selected speed, the median differences were 0.10 m/s, 95% CI (0.06 to 0.14) (post-intervention) and 0.09 m/s, (0.01 to 0.19) (2M). The anodal group also had a greater stride length difference post-intervention (median difference: 0.07 m, 95% CI (0.01 to 0.14)). No significant between-group differences were found for other outcomes. CONCLUSION Five-session of anodal tDCS with gait training slightly improved walking speed, sustained for 2 months post-intervention. However, effect on spatiotemporal gait parameters was limited and dynamic balance, functional tasks (ie, sit-to-stand), and quality of life were unaffected compared with overground gait training.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare the effects of lower limb loading training (LLLT) with or without augmented loading feedback during stepping activity on mobility, walking device use, and falls among ambulatory individuals with chronic spinal cord injury (SCI). STUDY DESIGN Randomized controlled trial (assessor-blinded) with prospective fall data follow-up, clinical trial registration (NCT03254797). METHODS Forty-four ambulatory participants (22 participants/group) were prospectively monitored for their baseline fall data over six months, with baseline assessments for their mobility and walking device used after six months. Then participants involved in the LLLT programs with or without loading feedback according to their groups for 30 min/day, 5 days/week, over 4 weeks. Mobility outcomes were re-assessed at week two and week four, with prospective fall data monitoring over six months, and mobility measured thereafter. RESULTS Mobility outcomes of the participants were significantly improved from their baseline ability, especially in those who were trained using augmented feedback (the difference in main outcome, timed up and go, between the groups was 1.8 s; 95% confidence interval = 1.0-3.5s). CONCLUSIONS LLLT during stepping activity, especially with augmented loading feedback, could be applied effectively to promote mobility and safety of ambulatory individuals with chronic SCI (post-injury time of approximately four years).

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Although the importance of sarcopenia control has been suggested, there are no minimal detectable change (MDC) studies of older adults with sarcopenia, to our knowledge, and the criteria for determining the effectiveness of interventions are unknown. The purpose of this study was to calculate the MDC in the five times sit-to-stand test (FTSST) in older Japanese adults with sarcopenia and use it as an index to determine the effectiveness of future interventions. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in January and February 2023. The participants of this study were older Japanese adults using daycare rehabilitation. Thirty-eight participants performed the FTSST twice a week. Grip strength, walking speed, and skeletal muscle mass were measured to determine the presence of sarcopenia. The diagnosis of sarcopenia was defined as low skeletal muscle mass and low muscle strength and/or low physical function, based on the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 diagnostic criteria. Participants were further classified as sarcopenic or non-sarcopenic. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and MDCs were calculated for the overall, sarcopenia, and non-sarcopenia groups using the two FTSST measures. The average and difference of the two variables were used to calculate the MDC. Results: Overall, the ICC (1,1) was 0.94, MDC was 2.87 s, and MDC% was 23.3%. The sarcopenia group had an ICC (1,1) of 0.93, MDC of 3.12 s, and MDC% of 24.0%. The non-sarcopenia group had an ICC (1,1) of 0.95, MDC of 2.25 s, and MDC% of 19.2%. Conclusions: Despite the limitation of the data being only from this study population, we found that a change of ≥3.12 s or ≥24.0% in the FTSST of older adults with sarcopenia was clinically meaningful and may help to determine the effectiveness of sarcopenia treatment. The improvement or decline in older Japanese adults with sarcopenia should be determined by changes in the FTSST over a longer period of time than that for other conditions.

Abstract
The transitions between sitting and standing have a high physical and coordination demand, frequently causing falls in older individuals. Rollators, or four-wheeled walkers, are often prescribed to reduce lower-limb load and to improve balance but have been found a fall risk. This study investigated how rollator support affects sit-to-stand and stand-to-sit movements. Twenty young participants stood up and sat down under three handle support conditions (unassisted, light touch, and full support). As increasing task demands may affect coordination, a challenging floor condition (balance pads) was included. Full-body kinematics and ground reaction forces were recorded, reduced in dimensionality by principal component analyses, and clustered by k-means into movement strategies. Rollator support caused the participants to switch strategies, especially when their balance was challenged, but did not lead to support-specific strategies, i.e., clusters that only comprise light touch or full support trials. Three strategies for sit-to-stand were found: forward leaning, hybrid, and vertical rise; two in the challenging condition (exaggerated forward and forward leaning). For stand-to-sit, three strategies were found: backward lowering, hybrid, and vertical lowering; two in the challenging condition (exaggerated forward and forward leaning). Hence, young individuals adjust their strategy selection to different conditions. Future studies may apply this methodology to older individuals to recommend safe strategies and ultimately reduce falls.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Performance-based tests of mobility or physical function such as the Timed Up and Go (TUG), gait speed, chair-rise, and single-leg stance (SLS) are often administered using different protocols in aging populations, however, the reliability of their assessment protocols is not often considered. The purpose of this study was to examine the reliabilities of frequently used assessment protocols for the TUG, gait speed, chair-rise, and SLS in different age groups. METHODS We administered the following assessment protocols in an age-stratified (50-64, 65-74, 75+ years) sample of participants (N = 147) from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA): TUG fast pace and TUG normal pace: TUG-cognitive counting backwards by ones and counting back by threes, gait speed with 3-m and 4-m course, chair-rise with arms crossed and allowing the use of arms, and SLS using preferred leg or both legs-on two occasions within 1 week. We assessed the relative (intra-class correlation) and absolute reliability (standard error of measurement, SEM and minimal detectable change, MDC) for each protocol variation and provided recommendations based on relative reliability. RESULTS For participants aged 50-64 years, our results suggest better reliability for TUG fast-pace compared with normal-pace (ICC and 95% CI 0.70; 0.41-0.85 versus 0.38; 0.12-0.59). The reliability values for 3-m gait speed were potentially higher than for 4-m gait speed (ICC 0.75; 0.67-0.82 versus 0.64; 0.54-0.73) and values for chair-rise suggested better reliability allowing participants to use their arms than with arms crossed (ICC 0.79; 0.66-0.86 versus 0.64; 0.45-0.77) for participants overall. For participants aged 75+ years, ICCs for SLS with the preferred leg showed better reliability than for both legs (ICC = 0.62-0.79 versus 0.30-0.39). CONCLUSIONS AND DISCUSSION These reliability data and the recommendations can help guide the selection of the most appropriate performance-based test protocols for measuring mobility in middle-aged and older community-dwelling adults.

Abstract
Background The uncertain health care situations, such as that created by the COVID-19 pandemic, has limited hospital access and facilitated a paradigm shift in health care toward an increased demand for standard home visits and community-based rehabilitation services, including by ambulatory individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). Objectives This 6-month prospective study explored the validity and reliability of a single-time sit-to-stand (STSTS) test when used by primary health care (PHC) providers, including a village health volunteer, caregiver, individual with SCI, and health professional. Methods Eighty-two participants were assessed for the STSTS using four arm placement conditions (arms on a walking device, arms on knees, arms free by the sides, and arms crossed over the chest) and standard measures, with prospective fall data follow-up over 6 months. Thirty participants involved in the reliability study were also assessed and reassessed for the ability to complete the STSTS conditions by PHC providers. Results Outcomes of the STSTS test, except the condition with arms on a walking device, could significantly discriminate lower extremity muscle strength (LEMS) and mobility of the participants (rpb = -0.58 to 0.69) with moderate concurrent validity. Outcomes of the tests without using the arms also showed moderate to almost-perfect reliability (kappa = 0.754-1.000) when assessed by PHC raters. Conclusion The findings suggest the use of an STSTS with arms free by the sides as a standard practical measure by PHC providers to reflect LEMS and mobility of ambulatory individuals with SCI in various clinical, community, and home-based settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Five Times Sit-to-Stand Test (FTSST) has been found reliable, safe and valid for measuring healthy adults' lower limb muscle strength and for determining balance control, fall risk, and exercise capacity among older examinees. We believe that the FTSST has the potential to be a straightforward, low cost and valuable tool for identifying muscle disability and functional status following critical illness. The aim of our study was to establish the applicability, safety, and psychometric qualities of FTSST in patients at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) discharge. METHODS In our study applicability was determined by assessing the percentage of patients who could perform the test at ICU discharge. Safety was assessed by examining data regarding any exacerbated haemodynamic and respiratory responses or adverse events associated with the test. For assessing FTSST reliability, intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs), standard error of measurement (SEM) and Bland-Altman plot were used. For assessing concurrent validity handgrip strength, ICU length of stay, duration of invasive ventilation, Simplified Acute Physiology Score 3 (SAPS3) and age variables were used. For investigating predictive validity, correlations between the FTSST and measures of hospital length of stay and functional independence were evaluated. RESULTS Only 30% of ICU survivors (n = 261 out of 817) were eligible to perform the FTSST and 7% of patients who performed the test (n = 10 out of 142) presented adverse events. Both inter (ICC 0.92 CI95% 0.89-0.94) and intra-rater (ICC 0.95 CI95% 0.93-0.96) reliability were excellent and higher scores were associated with lower muscle strength, longer hospital stay and greater functional impairment at hospital discharge in adult survivors of critical diseases. CONCLUSION Our results suggest that the FTSST may be applicable only to high-functioning critical care survivors. In this specifical population, FTSST is a safe, easy to perform, valid and reliable measure that can be applied to fall risk and functional recovery management.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To explore the responsiveness and minimal clinically important differences of the five times sit-to-stand test in ambulatory individuals with spinal cord injury. METHODS This six-month prospective cohort study was conducted in 109 individuals with spinal cord injury who could walk with or without a walking device for at least 10 meters. Participants were assessed for the five times sit-to-stand test in the four arm-placement conditions and standard measures to determine responsiveness of the test, at baseline, and one, three, and six months. At six months, participants were also interviewed for the global rating of change to estimate the minimal clinically important differences of the five times sit-to-stand test. RESULTS The five times sit-to-stand test showed large internal responsiveness (standardized response means>0.83), with moderate external responsiveness as compared to the 10-meter walk test (ρ = -0.28 to -0.48, p < 0.005). The changes in the outcomes >2.27 and >2 s could be used to indicate a level of minimal clinically important change for participants who executed the test with and without hands, respectively. CONCLUSION The five times sit-to-stand test is a responsiveness measure for ambulatory individuals with spinal cord injury. The levels of minimal clinically important differences found in this study (>2.27 and >2 s) can be applied as a useful benchmark for the decision of clinically relevant changes over time for these individuals.

Abstract
BackgroundSit-To-Stand (STS) tests are reported as feasible alternatives for the assessment of functional fitness but the reliability of these tests in people with coronary artery disease (CAD) has not been reported. This study explored the test-retest reliability, convergent and known-groups validity of the five times, 30-sec and 1-min sit-to-stand test (FTSTS test, 30-s STS test and 1-min STS test respectively) in patients with CAD. The feasibility of applying these tests to distinguish the level of risk for cardiovascular events in CAD patients was also investigated.MethodsPatients with stable CAD performed a 6MWT and 3 STS tests in random order on the same day. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were conducted using STS test data to differentiate patients with low or high risk of cardiovascular events based on the risk level determined by distance covered in the 6MWT as > or ≤ 419 m. Thirty patients repeated the 3 STS tests on the following day.Results112 subjects with diagnoses of atherosclerosis or post-percutaneous coronary intervention, or post-acute myocardial infarction (post-AMI) participated in the validity analysis. All 3 STS tests demonstrated moderate and significant correlation with the 6MWT (coefficient values r for the FTSTS, 30-s STS and 1-min STS tests were−0.53, 0.57 and 0.55 respectively). Correlations between left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and all STS tests and between 6MWT and LVEF were only weak (r values ranged from 0.27 to 0.31). Subgroup analysis showed participants in the post-AMI group performed worse in all tests compared to non-myocardial infarction (non-MI) group. The area under the curve (AUC) was 0.80 for FTSTS (sensitivity: 75.0%, specificity: 73.8%, optimal cut-off: >11.7 sec), and the AUC, sensitivity, specificity and optimal cut-off for 30-s STS and 1-min STS test were 0.83, 75.0%, 76.2%, ≤ 12 repetitions and 0.80, 71.4%, 73.8%, ≤ 23 repetitions respectively. The intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) for repeated measurements of the FTSTS, 30-s STS and 1-min STS tests were 0.96, 0.95 and 0.96 respectively, with the minimal detectable change (MDC95) computed to be 1.1 sec 1.8 repetitions and 3.9 repetitions respectively.ConclusionsAll STS tests demonstrated good test-retest reliability, convergent and known-groups validity. STS tests may discriminate low from high levels of risk for a cardiovascular event in patients with CAD.

Abstract
Context/Objectives: Various clinical application of the five times sit-to-stand test (FTSST), with or without hands, may confound the outcomes to determine the lower limb functions and mobility of individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). This study assessed the concurrent validity of the FTSST in ambulatory individuals with SCI who completed the test with or without hands as verified using standard measures for lower extremity motor scores (LEMS) and functional mobility necessary for independence and safety of these individuals.Design: Cross-sectional study.Setting: Tertiary rehabilitation centers and community hospitals.Participants: Fifty-six ambulatory individuals with motor incomplete SCI who were able to walk independently with or without a walking device over at least 10 m.Outcome Measures: Time to complete the FTSST with or without hands according to individuals' abilities, LEMS, and functional mobility.Results: Time to complete the FTSST showed moderate-to-strong correlation with the LEMS scores and all functional mobility tests (ρ = -0.38 to -0.71, P < 0.05), but only in those who performed the test without hands. By contrast, data of those who completed the FTSST with hands were significantly correlated only with the ankle muscle strength and the functional mobility measures that allow upper limb contribution in the tests (ρ = -0.40 to 0.52, P < 0.05).Conclusion: Upper limb involvement could confound the outcomes of the FTSST. The present findings suggest the use of FTSST without hands to determine the lower limb functions of ambulatory individuals with SCI.

Abstract
Study design A cross-sectional design. Objectives To investigate rater reliability of the Spinal Cord Independence Measure or SCIM III among rehabilitation professionals, along with the concurrent validity of the tool as compared to standard measures covering wheelchair users (WU) and ambulatory (AM) individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). Setting A tertiary rehabilitation center and communities. Methods Eighty-two participants with SCI (39 WU and 43 AM individuals) were assessed using SCIM III items. The data of first 30 participants were video recorded for rater reliability assessments by seven rehabilitation professionals, including nurses, occupational therapists, and physical therapists (one novice and one experienced rater for each professional). All participants were also assessed using standard measures to verify concurrent validity of SCIM III by an experienced rater. Results The SCIM III showed excellent intra-rater and inter-rater reliability among rehabilitation professionals when analyzed for overall items (intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) >0.90) and separately for each subscale (kappa values >0.80). The total SCIM III of WU and the mobility scores of AM participants showed significant correlation with standard measures for muscle strength, limit of stability, balance control, functional endurance, and walking ability (rs = 0.343–0.779; p < 0.05). Conclusions The present findings extend clinical benefit and confirm the use of SCIM III interchangeably among rehabilitation professionals after they have been adequately trained. The findings are important for community-based rehabilitation and home healthcare services, especially during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, when hospital beds and in-patient services are limited for individuals with SCI.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Participant-blinded comparative pre-post randomized controlled trial. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of virtual soccer game on balance, gait function, and kick speed in individuals with spinal cord injuries. SETTING Forty participants with incomplete spinal cord injury (SCI) were included. METHODS The participants were randomized into either an experimental group (EG) or a control group for treatment 3 days/week over 4 weeks. The clinical outcomes included the results of the chair stand test (CST), timed up-and-go (TUG) test, and 10 m walking test (10MWT). The virtual reality (VR) content outcome measure was kick speed. RESULTS The independent t-test results indicated that the participants in the EG exhibited superior performances in the CST, TUG test, 10MWT, and kick speed test (all P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Our results provide novel, promising clinical evidence that VR rehabilitation improves both dynamic and static balance and reduces the risk of falls in patients with incomplete SCI of Asia impairment scale grades C-D.

Abstract
Functional independence in adults is conditioned by lower limb muscle strength. Thus, it seems important to assess lower limb strength using reliable and easy to reproduce measurements. The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to collect studies that examined the test-retest reliability of the Five Times Sit to Stand Test (FTSST) in adults. The search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases, including all studies published up to 28 December 2020. To be included, studies had to include relative reliability scores (ICC) and maximum torque or standard error of measurements (SEM) of FTSST. A total of 693 studies were initially identified, but only 8 met the eligibility criteria and were included in the meta-analysis, covering a total of 14 groups with 400 participants. Relative inter-rater reliability results (ICC = 0.937, p < 0.001, n = 400) revealed excellent reliability of FTSST to assess sitting and standing performance, lower limbs strength and balance control. Conclusion: The Five Times Sit to Stand Test is a highly reliable tool for assessing lower limbs strength, balance control, and mobility in both healthy adults and those with pathologies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To compare effects of walking training on a walking track with different surfaces (WTDS), including artificial grass, soft, and pebbles, as compared to overground walking training on the functional ability necessary for independence and incidence of falls of ambulatory individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). DESIGN A randomized controlled trial (single-blinded design) with 6-month prospective fall data follow-up. SETTING Tertiary rehabilitation centers and several communities. PARTICIPANTS Independent ambulatory individuals (N=54) with SCI who walked with or without a walking device. INTERVENTION Participants were randomly arranged into a control group (overground walking training, n=26) or experimental group (walking training over a WTDS, n=28) for 30 min/d, 5 d/wk over 4 weeks. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES The 10-m walk test, timed Up and Go test, five times sit-to-stand test, and 6-minute walk test were repeatedly measured 4 times, including before training, and after 2 and 4 weeks, and 6 months. In addition, participants were prospectively monitored for the fall data over 6 months. RESULTS Participants who walked with an average speed of 0.52 m/s and postinjury time >7 years could safely walk over a WTDS. They demonstrated significant improvement at 2 and 4 weeks after experimental training (P<.001), but not after control training. During the 6-month follow-up, participants in the experimental group also had the number of those who fell (n=5, 18%) fewer than those in the control group (n=12, 46%). CONCLUSIONS Being at a chronic SCI with ability of independent walking, participants needed a challenging task to promote their functional outcomes and minimize fall risk. The findings suggest the use of various surfaces as an alternative rehabilitation strategy for these individuals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Data relating to weight-bearing or lower limb loading ability (LLLA) have been reported wildly in several individuals, mostly with unilateral impairments, but not in ambulatory individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) who have bilateral sensorimotor deterioration. AIM To assess the LLLA of ambulatory individuals with SCI who walk independently with and without a walking device, and explore the optimal threshold of the LLLA to determine the independence and safety of these individuals. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING Tertiary rehabilitation centers and communities. POPULATION Ninety ambulatory participants with SCI. METHODS Participants were assessed for their LLLA during stepping of the contralateral leg using a digital load cell. In addition, they were assessed using functional mobility tests and interviewed for fall data over the past six months. RESULTS Participants who walked independently with or without a walking device had an average LLLA of at least 79% of their bodyweight. In addition, the amount of LLLA at least 94-95% of the bodyweight had moderate diagnostic properties to indicate the independence and safety of these individuals (sensitivity =68-77%, specificity =66-81%, and AUC=0.73-0.80). CONCLUSIONS The clear and objective data relating to LLLA can be used as a critical indicator for the safe and steady mobility, specifically for ambulatory individuals with SCI. These data can be used as an optimal threshold in rehabilitation training, screening and monitoring of their functional alteration over time in clinical, community, and home-based settings. CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT The LLLA of at least 79% of the bodyweight could determine the ability of independent walking with a walking device, while an LLLA of at least 94-95% of the bodyweight could indicate the ability of walking without a walking device and no multiple falls. These data can be used as an optimal target in rehabilitation training, screening and monitoring of functional alteration over time in various clinical and home-based settings, specifically for ambulatory individuals with SCI.

Immediate effects of lower limb loading exercise during stepping with and without augmented loading feedback on mobility of ambulatory individuals with spinal cord injury: a single-blinded, randomized, cross-over trial. Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Single-blinded, randomized, cross-over design. OBJECTIVES To compare the immediate effects of bodyweight shifting and lower limb loading (LLL) exercise during stepping with and without augmented loading feedback, followed by overground walking, on the mobility of ambulatory individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). SETTING Academic laboratory center. METHODS Thirty participants with SCI were trained using a single intervention session consisting of repetitive bodyweight shifting and LLL exercises during stepping with or without external feedback (10 min/leg) followed by overground walking (10 min) with a 2-week washout period, in a random sequence. The timed up-and-go test (TUG) (primary outcome), 10-m walk test (10MWT), five times sit-to-stand test (FTSST), and maximal LLL were measured 1 day before and immediately after each training session. RESULTS Significant improvement was found following both training sessions, excepting the TUG and LLL of the less-affected leg, where improvement was found only after training using augmented feedback. Moreover, the improvement following the training with feedback was significantly greater than that after training without feedback. The mean (95% CI) between-group differences for the TUG = 1.9 [0.6-3.3]s, 10MWT = 0.1 [0.0-0.1]m/s, FTSST = 1.0 [1.5-4.8]s, LLL = 3.1 [1.5-4.8]-2.8 [0.8-4.9]%bodyweight, p < 0.05. CONCLUSIONS The training programs immediately enhanced the mobility of ambulatory individuals with chronic SCI (post-injury time >6 years), particularly the training with augmented loading feedback. The findings offer another effective rehabilitation strategy that can be applied in various clinical and home-based settings.
