Abstract
It is estimated that 300,000 children 0-14 years of age are diagnosed with cancer worldwide each year. While the absolute risk of cancer in children is low, it is the leading cause of death due to disease in children in high-income countries. In spite of this, the etiologies of pediatric cancer are largely unknown. Environmental exposures have long been thought to play an etiologic role. However, to date, there are few well-established environmental risk factors for pediatric malignancies, likely due to technical barriers in collecting biological samples prospectively in pediatric populations for direct measurements. In this review, we propose the use of novel or underutilized biospecimens (dried blood spots and teeth) and molecular approaches for exposure assessment (epigenetics, metabolomics, and somatic mutational profiles). Future epidemiologic studies of pediatric cancer should incorporate novel exposure assessment methodologies, data on molecular features of tumors, and a more complete assessment of gene-environment interactions.

Abstract
The purpose of this phantom study is to compare radiation dose and image quality of abdominal computed tomography (CT) scanned with different tube voltages and tube currents, reconstructed with filtered back projection (FBP), hybrid iterative reconstruction (IR) and deep learning image reconstruction (DLIR) algorithms.A total of 15 CT scans of whole body phantoms were taken with 3 different tube voltages and 5 different tube currents. The images were reconstructed with FBP, 30% and 50% hybrid IR adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR-V), and low, medium and high strength DLIR algorithms. The image scanned with tube voltage/tube current of 120 kV/ 200 mA and reconstructed with FBP algorithm was chosen as the reference image. Five radiologists independently analyzed the images individually and also compared it with the reference image in overall, using the visual grading analysis. The mean score of each image was calculated and compared.Using DLIR algorithms, the radiation dose was reduced by 65.5% to 68.1% compared with the dose used in the reference image, while maintaining comparable image quality. Using the DLIR algorithm of medium strength, the image quality was even better than the reference image with a reduced radiation dose up to 36.2% to 50.0%. The DLIR algorithms generated better quality images than ASIR-V algorithms in all the data sets. In addition, among the data sets reconstructed with DLIR algorithms, image quality was the best at the medium strength level, followed by low and high.This phantom study suggests that DLIR algorithms may be considered as a new reconstruction technique by reducing radiation dose while maintaining the image quality of abdominal CTs.

Abstract
Childhood cancer is a leading cause of death in children. Some childhood cancers have a particularly high mortality rate. Following the World Health Organization's emphasis on child health, most governments worldwide have taken measures to facilitate childhood cancer research. Thus, the scientific community is showing increasing interest in this area. Chinese government has prominence in building a system for the diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancer, thereby promoting the development of childhood cancer research. This review summarizes the research progress, challenges, and perspectives in childhood cancer, and the increasing contributions of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) in the past decade (2008-2018).

Abstract
BACKGROUND This nationwide study investigates associations between paternal occupational exposure and childhood lymphoma. METHODS The UK National Registry of Childhood Tumours provided cases of childhood lymphoma born and diagnosed in Great Britain 1962-2010. Control births, unaffected by childhood cancer, were matched on sex, birth period and birth registration sub-district. Fathers' occupations were assigned to one or more of 33 exposure groups and also coded for occupational social class. RESULTS We analysed 5033 childhood lymphoma cases and 4990 controls. Total lymphoma and the subgroups Hodgkin, Burkitt and non-Hodgkin lymphoma were considered separately. No one exposure was significantly associated with increased risk within all subgroups and for total lymphoma. However, exposure to "ceramics and glass" was significantly associated with increased risk of total lymphoma, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Paternal lead exposure was associated with Burkitt lymphoma and exposure to metal fumes was associated with Hodgkin lymphoma. CONCLUSIONS This study provides no support for previous suggestions of an association between childhood lymphoma and paternal occupational exposure to pesticides, solvents/hydrocarbons or infections potentially transmitted by father's social contacts. An association with exposure to "ceramics and glass" was noted for the two major lymphoma subtypes together comprising 80% of total lymphoma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We summarise the work of the Childhood Cancer Research Group, particularly in relation to the UK National Registry of Childhood Tumours (NRCT). METHODS The Group was responsible for setting up and maintaining the NRCT. This registry was based on notifications from regional cancer registries, specialist children's tumour registries, paediatric oncologists and clinical trials organisers. For a large sample of cases, data on controls matched by date and place of birth were also collected. RESULTS Significant achievements of the Group include: studies of aetiology and of genetic epidemiology; proposals for, and participation in, international comparative studies of these diseases and on a classification system specifically for childhood cancer; the initial development of, and major contributions to, follow-up studies of the health of long-term survivors; the enhancement of cancer registration records by the addition of clinical data and of birth records. The Group made substantial contributions to the UK government's Committee on Medical Aspects of Radiation in the Environment. CONCLUSION An important part of the ethos of the Group was to work in collaboration with many other organisations and individuals, both nationally and internationally: many of the Group's achievements described here were the result of such collaborations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Significant research on the epidemiology and natural history of childhood cancer took place in the Universities of Oxford and Birmingham over sixty years. This is the first of three papers recording this work and describes the Oxford Survey of Childhood Cancers (OSCC), the largest case-control survey of childhood cancer ever undertaken. METHODS The OSCC studied deaths in Britain from 1953 to 1981. Parents were interviewed and medical records from ante-natal clinics and treatment centres were followed up and abstracted. The survey left Oxford in 1975 and was run subsequently from Birmingham. The data are now being documented and archived to make them available for future study. RESULTS Many papers have resulted from this survey, most notably those relating to the association first reported therein between childhood cancer and ante-natal X-raying. This paper is a historical review of the OSCC. CONCLUSIONS In spite of many analyses of the study, this historic data set has continuing value because of the large number of examples of some very rare tumours and the detailed clinical and family history data that are available; and also because of the possibility of carrying out new analyses to investigate emerging research issues.
