Abstract
X-ray ptychography and ptychographic computed tomography have seen a rapid rise since the advent of fourth-generation synchrotrons with a high degree of coherent radiation. In addition to quantitative multiscale structural analysis, ptychography with spectral capabilities has been developed, allowing for spatial-localized multiscale structural and spectral information of samples. The SWING beamline of Synchrotron SOLEIL has recently developed a nanoprobe setup where the endstation's first spectral and resonant ptychographic measurements have been successfully conducted. A metallic nickel wire sample was measured using 2D spectral ptychography in XANES mode and resonant ptychographic tomography. From the 2D spectral ptychography measurements, the spectra of the components of the sample's complex-valued refractive index, δ and β, were extracted, integrated along the sample thickness. By performing resonance ptychographic tomography at two photon energies, 3D maps of the refractive index decrement, δ, were obtained at the Ni K-edge energy and another energy above the edge. These maps allowed the detection of impurities in the Ni wire. The significance of accounting for the atomic scattering factor is demonstrated in the calculation of electron density near a resonance through the use of the δ values. These results indicate that at the SWING beamline it is possible to conduct state-of-the-art spectral and resonant ptychography experiments using the nanoprobe setup.

Abstract
Many unique adsorption properties of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been revealed by diffraction crystallography, visualizing their vacant and guest-loaded crystal structures at the molecular scale. However, it has been challenging to see the spatial distribution of the adsorption behaviors throughout a single MOF particle in a transient equilibrium state. Here, we report three-dimensional (3D) visualization of molecular adsorption behaviors in a single crystalline particle of a MOF by in situ X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy combined with computed tomography for the first time. The 3D maps of water-coordinated Co sites in a 100 μm-scale MOF-74-Co crystal were obtained with 1 μm spatial resolution under several water vapor pressures. Through the visualization of the water vapor adsorption process, 3D spectroimaging revealed the mechanism and spatial heterogeneity of guest adsorption inside a single particle of a crystalline MOF.

Abstract
X-ray ptychography offers high-resolution imaging of large areas at a high computational cost due to the large volume of data provided. To address the cost issue, we propose a physics-informed unsupervised classification algorithm that is performed prior to reconstruction and removes data outside the region of interest (RoI) based on the multimodal features present in the diffraction patterns. The preprocessing time for the proposed method is inconsequential in contrast to the resource-intensive reconstruction process, leading to an impressive reduction in the data workload to a mere 20% of the initial dataset. This capability consequently reduces computational time dramatically while preserving reconstruction quality. Through further segmentation of the diffraction patterns, our proposed approach can also detect features that are smaller than beam size and correctly classify them as within the RoI.

Abstract
Ptychographic coherent diffraction imaging (PCDI) is a synchrotron X-ray microscopy technique that provides high spatial resolution and a wide field of view. To improve the performance of PCDI, the performance of the synchrotron radiation source and imaging detector should be improved. In this study, ptychographic diffraction pattern measurements using the CITIUS high-speed X-ray image detector and the corresponding image reconstruction are reported. X-rays with an energy of 6.5 keV were focused by total reflection focusing mirrors, and a flux of ∼2.6 × 1010 photons s-1 was obtained at the sample plane. Diffraction intensity data were collected at up to ∼250 Mcounts s-1 pixel-1 without saturation of the detector. Measurements of tantalum test charts and silica particles and the reconstruction of phase images were performed. A resolution of ∼10 nm and a phase sensitivity of ∼0.01 rad were obtained. The CITIUS detector can be applied to the PCDI observation of various samples using low-emittance synchrotron radiation sources and to the stability evaluation of light sources.

Abstract
Lithium-rich disordered rocksalt-type cathode materials are promising for high-capacity and high-power lithium-ion batteries. Many of them are synthesized by mechanical milling and may have heterogeneous structures and chemical states at the nanoscale. In this study, we performed X-ray spectroscopic ptychography measurements of Li-rich disordered rocksalt-type oxide particles synthesized by mechanical milling before and after delithiation reaction at the vanadium K absorption edge, and visualized their structures and chemical state with a spatial resolution of ∼100 nm. We classified multiple domains with different chemical states via clustering analysis. A comparison of the domain distribution trends of the particles before and after the delithiation reaction revealed the presence of domains, suggesting that the delithiation reaction was suppressed.

Abstract
Hard X-ray ptychography has become an indispensable tool for observing the microscopic structure of a thick specimen. It measures diffraction patterns by scanning an X-ray beam and visualizes the complex-valued refractive index of the specimen by a computational reconstruction called phase retrieval. The quality of imaging is dependent on the used phase-retrieval algorithm, especially when the intensity of the diffraction patterns in the high-spatial-frequency range is low and/or when the spatial overlap of the illumination area is small. In this paper, a phase-retrieval algorithm, AMPAM, based on the Poisson model and total variation (TV) is proposed. It applies alternating minimization using primal-dual splitting and gradient-descent algorithms to compute the result without matrix inversion. The imaging capability of the proposed algorithm from low-dose and/or sparsely scanned data was investigated by numerical simulations. The proposed algorithm was compared with ADPr, which is the state-of-the-art algorithm based on the TV-regularized Poisson model. The results indicated that AMPAM can provide good-quality images with a computational cost 7–11 times less than ADPr. In addition, ink toner and macroporous silica particles were imaged at SPring-8 BL24XU to confirm the applicability of the algorithm to actual measurements.

Abstract
As a coherent diffraction imaging technique, ptychography provides high-spatial resolution beyond Rayleigh's criterion of the focusing optics, but it is also sensitively affected by the decoherence coming from the spatial and temporal variations in the experiment. Here we show that high-speed ptychographic data acquisition with short exposure can effectively reduce the impact from experimental variations. To reach a cumulative dose required for a given resolution, we further demonstrate that a continuous multi-pass scan via high-speed ptychography can achieve high-resolution imaging. This low-dose scan strategy is shown to be more dose-efficient, and has potential for radiation-sensitive sample studies and time-resolved imaging.

Abstract
A soft X-ray ptychography system using a Wolter mirror for the illumination optics has been developed. By taking advantage of the achromaticity of the optics, the system is capable of seamlessly imaging at half-period resolution of 50 nm with a broad photon-energy range from 250 eV to 2 keV while maintaining the focal position. Imaging a mammalian cell at various wavelengths was demonstrated, and high-resolution visualization of organelle was achieved. Stereo imaging was also performed with a long working distance of 20 mm. In combination with in-situ/operando and tomographic measurements, this system will be a powerful tool for observing biological and material targets with complex features.

Abstract
A heterogeneous phase/structure distribution in the bulk of spinel lithium nickel manganese oxides (LNMOs) is the key to maximizing the performance and stability of the cathode materials of lithium-ion batteries. Herein, we report the use of two-dimensional ptychographic X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) to visualize the density and valence maps of manganese and nickel in as-prepared LNMO particles and unsupervised learning to classify the three-phase group in terms of different elemental compositions and chemical states. The described approach may increase the supply of information for nanoscale characterization and promote the design of suitable structural domains to maximize the performance and stability of batteries.

Abstract
Numerous advances have been made in X-ray technology in recent years. X-ray imaging plays an important role in the nondestructive exploration of the internal structures of objects. However, the contrast of X-ray absorption images remains low, especially for materials with low atomic numbers, such as biological samples. X-ray phase-contrast images have an intrinsically higher contrast than absorption images. In this review, the principles, milestones, and recent progress of X-ray phase-contrast imaging methods are demonstrated. In addition, prospective applications are presented.

Abstract
Cr-Loaded iron oxide with a dendritic crystalline structure was synthesized and the reversible crystalline phase transition during redox cycling of the iron oxide was investigated. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy analyses revealed that Cr was well dispersed and loaded in the iron oxide dendrite crystals, whose lattice constant was dependent on the Cr loading. Temperature-programmed oxidation and reduction experiments revealed the reversible redox properties of the Cr-loaded iron oxide dendrites, whose redox temperature was found to be lower than that of Cr-free iron oxide dendrites. In situ Fe K-edge and Cr K-edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) analysis indicated that Cr loading extended the redox reaction window for conversion between Fe3O4 and γ-Fe2O3 owing to compressive lattice strain in the iron oxide spinel structures.

Abstract
Hydrodesulphurization, the removal of sulphur from crude oils, is an essential catalytic process in the petroleum industry safeguarding the production of clean hydrocarbons. Sulphur removal is critical for the functionality of downstream processes and vital to the elimination of environmental pollutants. The effectiveness of such an endeavour is among other factors determined by the structural arrangement of the heterogeneous catalyst. Namely, the accessibility of the catalytically active molybdenum disulphide (MoS2 ) slabs located on the surfaces of a porous alumina carrier. Here, we examined a series of pristine sulfided Mo and NiMo hydrodesulphurization catalysts of increasing metal loading prepared on commercial alumina carriers using ptychographic X-ray computed nanotomography. Structural analysis revealed a build consisting of two interwoven support matrix elements differing in nanoporosity. With increasing metal loading, approaching that of industrial catalysts, these matrix elements exhibit a progressively dissimilar MoS2 surface coverage as well as MoS2 cluster formation at the matrix element boundaries. This is suggestive of metal deposition limitations and/ or catalyst activation and following prohibitive of optimal catalytic utilization. These results will allow for diffusivity calculations, a better rationale of current generation catalyst performance as well as a better distribution of the active phase in next-generation hydrodesulphurization catalysts.

Abstract
This work demonstrates a combination technique of X-ray ptychography and the extended X-ray absorption fine structure (ptychography-EXAFS) method, which can determine the interatomic distances of bulk materials at the nanoscale. In the high-resolution ptychography-EXAFS method, it is necessary to use high-intense coherent X-rays with a uniform wavefront in a wide energy range, hence a ptychographic measurement system installed with advanced Kirkpatrick-Baez mirror focusing optics is developed and its performance is evaluated. Ptychographic diffraction patterns of micrometre-size MnO particles are collected by using this system at 139 energies between 6.504 keV and 7.114 keV including the Mn K absorption edge, and then the EXAFS of MnO is derived from the reconstructed images. By analyzing the EXAFS spectra obtained from a 48 nm × 48 nm region, the nanoscale bond lengths of the first and second coordination shells of MnO are determined. The present approach has great potential to elucidate the unclarified relationship among the morphology, electronic state and atomic arrangement of inhomogeneous bulk materials with high spatial resolution.
