Abstract
The combination of commercially available FeCl3·6H2O with a water-soluble cationic 2,2′-bipyridyl catalytic system was found to enable the direct conjugate addition of aryl iodides onto activated alkenes, such as an α,β-unsaturated ester and a ketone, in a weakly acidic aqueous solution. This operationally simple protocol was carried out at 80 °C under air atmosphere in a potassium acetate-buffered aqueous solution for 12 h in the presence of Zn dust as a reductant to provide the desired 1,4-adducts in good yields.

Abstract
We describe herein a regioselective palladium(II)-catalyzed intermolecular hydroarylation of unactivated aliphatic alkenes with electronically and sterically diverse (hetero)arylsilanes under redox-neutral conditions. A removable bidentate 8-aminoquinoline auxiliary was readily employed to dictate the regioselectivity, prevent β-hydride elimination, and facilitate protodepalladation. This silicon-based protocol features a broad substrate scope with excellent functional group compatibility and enables an expeditious route to a variety of γ-aryl butyric acid derivatives in good yields with exclusive anti-Markovnikov selectivity.

Abstract
Substantial research has suggested that the configuration and the total number of functional groups on flavones influence their bioactivity. To investigate the changes in the biological activities of selenoflavones in relationship to structural changes, the development of a generally applicable synthetic method was a key. Until now, an efficient pathway for palladium-catalyzed direct arylation with the selenocyclic enone systems is not known in the literature. We herein introduce a simple direct C-H arylation of two difficult coupling partners, selenochromones and electron-rich aryl bromide, affording diverse polymethoxyselenoflavones with great efficiency and high selectivity.

Abstract
The conjugate addition reaction has been a useful tool in the formation of carbon-carbon bonds. The utility of this reaction has been demonstrated in the synthesis of many natural products, materials, and pharmacological agents. In the last three decades, there has been a significant increase in the development of asymmetric variants of this reaction. Unfortunately, conjugate addition reactions using α,β-unsaturated amides and lactams remain underdeveloped due to their inherently low reactivity. This review highlights the work that has been done on both diastereoselective and enantioselective conjugate addition reactions utilizing α,β-unsaturated amides and lactams.

Abstract
Enantioselective conjugate additions of arylboronic acids to β-substituted cyclic enones have been previously reported from our laboratories. Air- and moisture-tolerant conditions were achieved with a catalyst derived in situ from palladium(II) trifluoroacetate and the chiral ligand (S)-t-BuPyOx. We now report a combined experimental and computational investigation on the mechanism, the nature of the active catalyst, the origins of the enantioselectivity, and the stereoelectronic effects of the ligand and the substrates of this transformation. Enantioselectivity is controlled primarily by steric repulsions between the t-Bu group of the chiral ligand and the α-methylene hydrogens of the enone substrate in the enantiodetermining carbopalladation step. Computations indicate that the reaction occurs via formation of a cationic arylpalladium(II) species, and subsequent carbopalladation of the enone olefin forms the key carbon-carbon bond. Studies of nonlinear effects and stoichiometric and catalytic reactions of isolated (PyOx)Pd(Ph)I complexes show that a monomeric arylpalladium-ligand complex is the active species in the selectivity-determining step. The addition of water and ammonium hexafluorophosphate synergistically increases the rate of the reaction, corroborating the hypothesis that a cationic palladium species is involved in the reaction pathway. These additives also allow the reaction to be performed at 40 °C and facilitate an expanded substrate scope.

Abstract
Alkenyl and alkyl groups have been successfully introduced to six-membered α,β-unsaturated lactams via a copper-catalyzed asymmetric 1,4-addition of the corresponding alanes. Moderate to good yields and good to excellent enantioselectivities are achieved by using a combination of the very cheap copper(II) naphthenate and a readily available phosphine amine ligand. The creation of an all-carbon quaternary stereogenic center, via Michael addition to a trisubstituted conjugated lactam, is also disclosed for the first time.

Abstract
Flava Flavanone: Asymmetric conjugate additions to chromones and 4-quinolones are reported utilizing a single catalyst system formed in situ from Pd(OCOCF(3))(2) and (S)-tBuPyOX. Notably, these reactions are performed in wet solvent under ambient atmosphere, and employ readily available arylboronic acids as the nucleophile, thus providing ready access to these asymmetric heterocycles (see scheme).

Abstract
Readily available vinyl alanes are used in the Cu-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition reaction to N-substituted-2-3-dehydro-4-piperidones. The enhanced reactivity of recently developed and easily prepared phosphine amine ligands in combination with inexpensive Cu(II)naphtenate (CuNp) allows the introduction of a great variety of alkenyl, alkyl, and aryl aluminums in high enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Axially chiral cis-chelated bidentate bis(N-heterocyclic carbene)-palladium(II) complexes are effective catalysts for the asymmetric conjugate addition of arylboronic acids to 2,3-dihydro-4-pyridones, producing the synthetically and biologically important 2-aryl-4-piperidones in moderate-to-high yields (up to 96%) along with excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99.5% ee) in most cases under mild conditions.

Abstract
Various arylboronic acids reacted with activated alkenes in the presence of [Ni(dppe)Br2], ZnCl2, and H2O in CH3CN at 80 degrees C to give the corresponding Mizoroki-Heck-type addition products in good to excellent yields. Furthermore, 1 equivalent of the hydrogenation product of the activated alkene was also produced. By tuning the ligands of the nickel complexes and the reaction conditions, Michael-type addition was achieved in a very selective manner. Thus, various p- and o-substituted arylboronic acids or alkenylboronic acid reacted smoothly with activated alkenes in CH3CN at 80 degrees C for 12 h catalyzed by Ni(acac)2, P(o-anisyl)3, and K2CO3 to give the corresponding Michael-type addition products in excellent yields. However, for m-substituted arylboronic acids, the yields of Michael-type addition products are very low. The cause of this unusual meta-substitution effect is not clear. By altering the solvent or phosphine ligand, the product yields for m-substituted arylboronic acids were greatly improved. In contrast to previous results in the literature, the present catalytic reactions required water for Mizoroki-Heck-type products and dry reaction conditions for Michael-type addition products. Possible mechanistic pathways for both addition reactions are proposed.
