Abstract
Any attempt to facilitate a new generation of C-B bonds represents a useful tool in organic synthesis. In addition, if that approach highlights the nucleophilic character of boryl moieties in the absence of transition metal complexes, the challenge to create new reactive platforms becomes an opportunity. We have been deeply involved in the experimental and theoretical validation of C-B bond formation by means of alkoxide activation of tetra-alkoxy diboron reagents and here is presented a convenient guide to understand the concept and the applications.

Abstract
Single-atom catalysts (SACs) as a bridge between hetero- and homogeneous catalysis have attracted much attention. However, it is still challenging to generate stable single atoms with high metal loadings, and the application of SACs in traditionally homogeneous catalytic reactions is highly desirable. Herein, a Cu SAC with a high Cu loading of 8.7 wt % supported on coordinatively unsaturated Al2 O3 was prepared and used in the amine-free synthesis of homoallylboranes. Up to 99 % conversion, 95 % 1,4-selective boration of the enals, and 48-68 % isolated yields of homoallylboranes were achieved, equaling the results of reported homogenous catalysts, and the system was more efficient and stable than nano Cu/γ-Al2 O3 . Mechanistic investigation indicated that Cu-Bpin species are the active intermediates of selective boration. The superior catalytic and recycling performance of Cu SAC paves an efficient and green path toward selective synthesis of homoallyborane fine chemicals.

Abstract
The development of versatile catalyst systems and new transformations for the utilization of carbon dioxide (CO2 ) is of great interest and significance. This Personal Account reviews our studies on the exploration of the reactions of CO2 with various substrates by the use of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-copper catalysts. The carboxylation of organoboron compounds gave access to a wide range of carboxylic acids with excellent functional group tolerance. The C-H bond carboxylation with CO2 emerged as a straightforward protocol for the preparation of a series of aromatic carboxylic esters and butenoates from simple substrates. The hydrosilylation of CO2 with hydrosilanes provided an efficient method for the synthesis of silyl formate on gram scale. The hydrogenative or alkylative carboxylation of alkynes, ynamides and allenamides yielded useful α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids and α,β-dehydro amino acid esters. The boracarboxylation of alkynes or aldehydes afforded the novel lithium cyclic boralactone or boracarbonate products, respectively. The NHC-copper catalysts generally featured excellent functional group compatibility, broad substrate scope, high efficiency, and high regio- and stereoselectivity. The unique electronic and steric properties of the NHC-copper units also enabled the isolation and structural characterization of some key intermediates for better understanding of the catalytic reaction mechanisms.

Abstract
Although known for over 90 years, only in the past two decades has the chemistry of diboron(4) compounds been extensively explored. Many interesting structural features and reaction patterns have emerged, and more importantly, these compounds now feature prominently in both metal-catalyzed and metal-free methodologies for the formation of B-C bonds and other processes.

Abstract
A one-pot synthesis of chiral amino alcohols from α,β-unsaturated aldehydes is reported which circumvents competitive 1,2- versus 1,4-boryl addition, by means of using a sterically hindered amine-derived imine. In addition to the complete chemoselectivity, modification of the Cu(I) catalyst with readily available chiral diphosphines, such as (R)-DM-BINAP, gave the 1,4-boryl addition products with high levels of asymmetric induction.

Abstract
The first broadly applicable metal-free enantioselective method for boron conjugate addition (BCA) to α,β-unsaturated carbonyls is presented. The C-B bond forming reactions are promoted in the presence of 2.5-7.5 mol % of a readily accessible C(1)-symmetric chiral imidazolinium salt, which is converted, in situ, to the catalytically active diastereo- and enantiomerically pure N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) by the common organic base 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (dbu). In addition to the commercially available bis(pinacolato)diboron [B(2)(pin)(2)], and in contrast to reactions with the less sterically demanding achiral NHCs, the presence of MeOH is required for high efficiency. Acyclic and cyclic α,β-unsaturated ketones, as well as acyclic esters, Weinreb amides, and aldehydes, can serve as suitable substrates; the desired β-boryl carbonyls are isolated in up to 94% yield and >98:2 enantiomer ratio (er). Transformations are often carried out at ambient temperature. In certain cases, such as when the relatively less reactive unsaturated amides are used, elevated temperatures are required (50-66 °C); nonetheless, reactions remain highly enantioselective. The utility of the NHC-catalyzed method is demonstrated through comparison with the alternative Cu-catalyzed protocols; in cases involving a polyfunctional substrate, unique profiles in chemoselectivity are exhibited by the metal-free approach (e.g., conjugate addition vs reaction with an alkyne, allene, or aldehyde).

Abstract
C(1)-symmetric isoquinoline-based chiral diaminocarbene ligands (MIQ) have been developed to block three quadrants of the metal coordination sphere, complementing C(2)-symmetric biisoquinoline-based ligands (BIQ). MIQ-Cu complexes catalyzed conjugate borylation of various α,β-unsaturated amides in good yields (82-99%) and enantioselectivities (75-87% ee).
