Abstract
To prepare novel biodegradable copolymers with functional substituents that are distributed statistically or randomly over the macromolecule chain and have improved characteristics compared to homopolymers, we conducted a series of synthetic experiments with a novel cyclic monomer, 5-(benzyloxy)-1,3-dioxepan-2-one (4). This compound was synthesized, and its homopolymer, as well as its copolymers with L-lactide, ε-caprolactone and trimethylene carbonate, were prepared in a polymerization solution with stannous octoate as the initiator. The formation of the copolymers was confirmed using NMR spectroscopy and DSC data. The distribution of the monomeric units of the substituted 7CC in the copolymers with L-lactide and ε-caprolactone is random, as it is close to a statistical distribution. The copolymer with TMC is a gradient copolymer due to the different rates of monomer polymerization. The copolymer with a composition of 10(ε-CL):1(carbonate 4) can be considered a promising polymer after the deprotection of the hydroxy group for the inoculation of the functional substituents due to its convenience of preparation and properties similar to those of poly(ε-caprolactone).

Abstract
A decarboxylative cross-coupling reaction of α-amino acids with nitrones via visible-light-induced photoredox catalysis has been established for easy access to β-amino hydroxylamines and vicinal diamines with structural diversity, which is featured with simple operation, mild conditions, readily available α-amino acids, and a broad scope of nitrone substrates. The application of this protocol can furnish efficient synthetic strategies for some valuable vicinal diamine-containing molecules.

Dual catalysis for enantioselective convergent synthesis of enantiopure vicinal amino alcohols. Nat Commun 2018; 9:410. Abstract
Enantiopure vicinal amino alcohols and derivatives are essential structural motifs in natural products and pharmaceutically active molecules, and serve as main chiral sources in asymmetric synthesis. Currently known asymmetric catalytic protocols for this class of compounds are still rare and often suffer from limited scope of substrates, relatively low regio- or stereoselectivities, thus prompting the development of more effective methodologies. Herein we report a dual catalytic strategy for the convergent enantioselective synthesis of vicinal amino alcohols. The method features a radical-type Zimmerman–Traxler transition state formed from a rare earth metal with a nitrone and an aromatic ketyl radical in the presence of chiral N,N′-dioxide ligands. In addition to high level of enantio- and diastereoselectivities, our synthetic protocol affords advantages of simple operation, mild conditions, high-yielding, and a broad scope of substrates. Furthermore, this protocol has been successfully applied to the concise synthesis of pharmaceutically valuable compounds (e.g., ephedrine and selegiline). Chiral vicinal amino alcohols are found in many bioactive compounds and may serve as chiral ligands. Here, the authors report a photocatalytic enantioselective cross-coupling of nitrones with aromatic aldehydes with a chiral ligand-coordinated rare earth ion synergistically producing enantiopure vicinal amino alcohols.

Abstract
For the first time, the influence of surfactants on the radical pinacol coupling reaction is investigated. The rate and selectivity of this reductive C-C coupling are compared under three different activation technologies: thermal activation, microwave irradiation, and sonication. The use of IgepalCO520, a neutral surfactant, led to the successful conversion of aromatic or α,β-unsaturated aliphatic carbonyl compounds in moderate to excellent yield (55-90 %). An insight on the potential mechanism involved in the reaction is also proposed, based on microscopic observations and particle size measurement.

Abstract
d-Glucopyranose-derived and l-idopyranose-derived piperidine nitrones were synthesized in good overall yields through six-step reaction sequence starting from readily available 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-benzyl-d-glucopyranose. The method is efficient and could be general for the synthesis of aldohexose-derived piperidine nitrones which are precursors of piperidine iminosugars.

Abstract
We report, for the first time, the synthesis of 8-aza-analogues of PGE2. The SmI2-mediated cross coupling reactions of γ-lactam-hemiaminal 9, lactam 2-pyridyl sulfide 17, and lactam 2-pyridyl sulfone 18 with activated alkenes/alkyne were first developed, giving the corresponding γ-lactams in 49-78%, 45-75%, and 75-90%, respectively. The reactions of lactam 2-pyridyl sulfide and 2-pyridyl sulfone proceeded with ≥12:1 trans-diastereoselectivities. This represents the first intermolecular coupling reaction of the γ-lactam N-α-alkyl radicals of types B, B1, and B2 with activated alkenes. Two radical-based mechanisms were suggested. The asymmetric synthesis of the 11-hydroxylated analogue of the highly selective EP4 receptor agonist PF-04475270 (30), the 11-hydroxylated analogue of ocular hypotensive CP-734432 (31), compounds 35 and 36 have been achieved on the basis of this method.
