Abstract
The trinuclear high-spin iron(III) complex [Fe3Cl3(saltagBr)(py)6]ClO4 {H5saltagBr = 1,2,3-tris[(5-bromo-salicylidene)amino]guanidine} was synthesized and characterized by several experimental and theoretical methods. The iron(III) complex exhibits molecular 3-fold symmetry imposed by the rigid ligand backbone and crystallizes in trigonal space group P3̅ with the complex cation lying on a crystallographic C3 axis. The high-spin states (S = 5/2) of the individual iron(III) ions were determined by Mößbauer spectroscopy and confirmed by CASSCF/CASPT2 ab initio calculations. Magnetic measurements show an antiferromagnetic exchange between the iron(III) ions leading to a geometrically spin-frustrated ground state. This was complemented by high-field magnetization experiments up to 60 T, which confirm the isotropic nature of the magnetic exchange and negligible single-ion anisotropy for the iron(III) ions. Muon-spin relaxation experiments were performed and further prove the isotropic nature of the coupled spin ground state and the presence of isolated paramagnetic molecular systems with negligible intermolecular interactions down to 20 mK. Broken-symmetry density functional theory calculations are consistent with the antiferromagnetic exchange between the iron(III) ions within the presented trinuclear high-spin iron(III) complex. Ab initio calculations further support the absence of appreciable magnetic anisotropy (D = 0.086, and E = 0.010 cm-1) and the absence of significant contributions from antisymmetric exchange, as the two Kramers doublets are virtually degenerate (ΔE = 0.005 cm-1). Therefore, this trinuclear high-spin iron(III) complex should be an ideal candidate for further investigations of spin-electric effects arising exclusively from the spin chirality of a geometrically frustrated S = 1/2 spin ground state of the molecular system.

Abstract
Ionic liquids (ILs) containing cationic mixed-valence biferrocenylene derivatives were synthesized with an octanoyl or octyl substituent in each cation. Their melting points ranged between 25 and 39 °C, and the octanoyl derivatives exhibited higher melting points than the octyl derivatives. In addition, each IL exhibited a glass transition in the temperature ranging from -66 to -45 °C after melting. Their melting points were ∼10 °C higher than those of mononuclear octamethylferrocenium salts bearing the same substituents. The solvent polarity (ETN) and Kamlet-Taft parameters (π*, α, and β) of these dinuclear and mononuclear ILs were then examined. The dinuclear ILs bearing octanoyl substituents exhibited significant increases in ETN and π* and a decrease in α with the decreasing temperature, whereas the other ILs exhibited a significantly less pronounced temperature dependence. Finally, the intervalence charge-transfer (or charge-resonance) bands of the octanoyl dinuclear ILs exhibited red shifts with the decreasing temperature, which can be regarded as self-thermosolvatochromism.

Abstract
A microcrystalline carboxyl-functionalized imidazolium chloride, namely 1-carboxymethyl-3-ethylimidazolium chloride, C7H11N2O2+·Cl-, has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform IR spectroscopy (ATR-FT-IR), single-crystal X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis (TGA/DSC), and photoluminescence spectroscopy. In the crystal structure, cations and anions are linked by C-H...Cl and C-H...O hydrogen bonds to create a helix along the [010] direction. Adjacent helical chains are further interconnected through O-H...Cl and C-H...O hydrogen bonds to form a (10-1) layer. Finally, neighboring layers are joined together via C-H...Cl contacts to generate a three-dimensional supramolecular architecture. Thermal analyses reveal that the compound melts at 449.7 K and is stable up to 560.0 K under a dynamic air atmosphere. Photoluminescence measurements show that the compound exhibits a blue fluorescence and a green phosphorescence associated with spin-allowed (1π←1π*) and spin-forbidden (1π←3π*) transitions, respectively. The average luminescence lifetime was determined to be 1.40 ns for the short-lived (1π←1π*) transition and 105 ms for the long-lived (1π←3π*) transition.

Abstract
The mixed-valence complex Fe3 O(cyanoacetate)6 (H2 O)3 (1) has been studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis at pressures up to 5.3(1) GPa and by (synchrotron) Mössbauer spectroscopy at pressures up to 8(1) GPa. Crystal structure refinements were possible up to 4.0(1) GPa. In this pressure range, 1 undergoes two pressure-induced phase transitions. The first phase transition at around 3 GPa is isosymmetric and involves a 60° rotation of 50 % of the cyanoacetate ligands. The second phase transition at around 4 GPa reduces the symmetry from rhombohedral to triclinic. Mössbauer spectra show that the complex becomes partially valence-trapped after the second phase transition. This sluggish pressure-induced valence-trapping is in contrast to the very abrupt valence-trapping observed when compound 1 is cooled from 130 to 120 K at ambient pressure.

Abstract
The five manganese-containing, Keggin-based tungstosilicates [Mn(II)3(OH)3(H2O)3(A-α-SiW9O34)](7-) (1), [Mn(III)3(OH)3(H2O)3(A-α-SiW9O34)](4-) (2), [Mn(III)3(OH)3(H2O)3(A-β-SiW9O34)](4-) (3), [Mn(III)3Mn(IV)O3(CH3COO)3(A-α-SiW9O34)](6-) (4), and [Mn(III)3Mn(IV)O3(CH3COO)3(A-β-SiW9O34)](6-) (5) were synthesized in aqueous medium by interaction of [A-α-SiW9O34](10-) or [A-β-SiW9O34H](9-) with either MnCl2 (1) or [Mn(III)8Mn(IV)4O12(CH3COO)16(H2O)4] (2-5) under carefully adjusted reaction conditions. The obtained salts of these polyanions were analyzed in the solid state by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The salts of polyanions 1, 2, and 4 were further characterized in the solid state by magnetic studies, as well as in solution by electrochemistry.
