Abstract
Developing cost-effective electrocatalysts using earth-abundant metal as an alternative to expensive precious metal catalyst remains a key challenge for researchers. Several strategies are being researched/tested for making low-cost transition metal complexes with controlled electron-density and coordination flexibility around the metal center to enhance their catalytic activity. Herein, we report a novel lutidine coordinated cobalt(ii) acetate complex [(3,5-lutidine)2Co(OAc)2(H2O)2] (1) as a promising electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Complex 1 was characterized by FT-IR, elemental analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction data. The structure optimization of complex 1 was also done using DFT calculation and the obtained geometrical parameters were found to be in good agreement with the parameters obtained from the solid state structure obtained through single crystal X-ray diffraction data. Further, the molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) maps analysis of complex 1 observed electron rich centers that were found to be in agreement with the solid-state structure. It was understood that the coordination of lutidine as a Lewis base and acetate moiety as a flexible ligand will provide more coordination flexibility around the metal center to facilitate the catalytic reaction. Further, the electron rich centers around metal center will also support the enhancement of their catalytic activity. Complex 1 shows impressive OER activity, even better than the state-of-the-art IrO2 catalyst, in terms of turnover frequency (TOF: 0.05) and onset potential (1.50 V vs. RHE). The TOF for complex 1 is two and half times higher, while the onset potential is ca. 20 mV lower, than the benchmark IrO2 catalyst studied under identical conditions.

Abstract
A previously-reported cadmium-based two-periodic metal-organic framework [Cd1.5(BTC)(H2O)4.5]n·nH2O (CP1) has been re-synthesized, where H3BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid. CP1 was characterized with single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) followed by various thermal analyses such as thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), hot stage microscopy (HSM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). CP1 is composed of 2-periodic layers, which are interdigitated. Heating can effectively remove the uncoordinated and coordinated water molecules resulting in an amorphous product CP1′. The original framework can be regenerated by readsorption of water from the atmosphere, indicating that the dehydration is reversible.

Abstract
We investigate the effect of bis(imino)pyridine (BIP) ligands in guiding self-assembly of semiconducting CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) into three-dimensional multi-layered shells with diameters spanning the entire mesoscopic range, from 200 nm to 2 μm. The assembly process is directed by guest-host interactions between the BIP ligands and a thermotropic liquid crystal (LC), with the latter's phase transition driving the process. Characterization of the shell structures, through scanning electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering, demonstrates that the average shell diameter depends on the BIP structure, and that changing one functional group in the chemical scaffold allows systematic tuning of shell sizes across the entire range. Differential scanning calorimetry confirms a relationship between shell sizes and the thermodynamic perturbation of the BIP molecules to the LC phase transition temperature, allowing analytical modeling of shell assembly energetics. This novel mechanism to controllably tune shell sizes over the entire mesoscale via one standard protocol is a significant development for research on in situ cargo/drug delivery platforms using nano-assembled structures.

Abstract
Reactions of 2-(hydroxymethyl)pyridine (Hhmp) with PbCl2 and Pb(NO3)2 at room temperature led to the formation of two novel compounds, namely tetrakis[μ3-(pyridin-2-yl)methanolato]-tetrahedro-tetrakis[chloridolead(II)], [Pb4(C6H6NO)4Cl4], (I), and poly[(μ2-nitrato)[μ2-(pyridin-2-yl)methanolato]lead(II)], [Pb(C6H6NO)(NO3)]n, (II). Compound (I) exhibits a tetranuclear Pb4O4 cubane structure, which is connected through π-π stacking interactions between the pyridine groups of the (pyridin-2-yl)methanolate (hmp(-)) ligands and through C-H···Cl interactions to form an interesting threefold diamondoid network. Compound (II) possesses two-dimensional (4,4)-sql topology based on a Pb2O2 unit, which is further extended into a three-dimensional supramolecular network through π-π stacking interactions between adjacent pyridine rings and through C-H···O interactions between the pyridine C atoms of the hmp(-) ligands and the nitrate anions.
