Abstract
Antimony thiourea tetra chloride single crystals were grown by solution growth technique at room temperature. The UV-visible, fourier transform infrared and fluorescence spectra were recorded and electron irradiation effects on these properties were studied. The optical absorption edge of the UV-visible spectrum slightly shifts towards longer wavelength with the increase of irradiation dose. The fluorescence quantum yield is decreased for electron irradiated antimony thiourea tetra chloride crystals. The presence of functional group of the as-grown and electron irradiated complex was confirmed by fourier transform infrared spectral study.

Abstract
We have synthesized optically active nanostructured composite materials by using an amphiphilic semiconducting polymer, a poly(phenylene ethynylene) (PPE), and a conventional ammonium surfactant as the structure-directing agents. The PPE consists of phenylene units para-substituted with an octyloxy chain and a charged trimethylammoniumethoxy group, resulting in a surfactant-like structure that can assemble into cylindrical micelles. The resulting silica/organic composite material has a hexagonal honeycomb structure with a repeat distance of 45.3 A, as confirmed by low-angle X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Scanning electron microscopy indicates that the larger scale particle size is on the order of micrometers. The incorporation of the polymer into the composite was confirmed by elemental analysis, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and fluorescence microscopy. The polymer retains its photophysical properties in the composite, showing luminescence similar to polymers in the solution phase. The polymer displays a high degree of luminescence polarization anisotropy, indicating that the polymer chains are straight and isolated from each other in the composite.

Abstract
A series of protected and terminal dialkynes with extended pi-conjugation through a condensed aromatic linker unit in the backbone, 1,4-bis(trimethylsilylethynyl)naphthalene, 1,4-bis(ethynyl)naphthalene, 9,10-bis(trimethylsilylethynyl)anthracene, 9,10-bis(ethynyl)anthracene, have been synthesized and characterized spectroscopically. The solid-state structures of and have been confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Reaction of two equivalents of the complex trans-[Ph(Et(3)P)(2)PtCl] with an equivalent of the terminal dialkynes 1,4-bis(ethynyl)benzene and, in (i)Pr(2)NH-CH(2)Cl(2), in the presence of CuI, at room temperature, afforded the platinum(II) di-ynes trans-[Ph(Et(3)P)(2)Pt-C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-R-C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-Pt(PEt(3))(2)Ph](R = benzene-1,4-diyl; naphthalene-1,4-diyl and anthracene-9,10-diyl ) while reactions between equimolar quantities of trans-[((n)Bu(3)P)(2)PtCl(2)] and under similar conditions readily afforded the platinum(II) poly-ynes trans-[-((n)Bu(3)P)(2)Pt-C[triple bond]C-R-C[triple bond]C-](n)(R = naphthalene-1,4-diyl and anthracene-9,10-diyl ). The Pt(II) diynes and poly-ynes have been characterized by analytical and spectroscopic methods, and the single crystal X-ray structures of and have been determined. These structures confirm the trans-square planar geometry at the platinum centres and the linear nature of the molecules. The di-ynes and poly-ynes are soluble in organic solvents and readily cast into thin films. Optical spectroscopic measurements reveal that the electron-rich naphthalene and anthracene spacers create strong donor-acceptor interactions between the Pt(II) centres and conjugated ligands along the rigid backbone of the organometallic polymers. Thermogravimetry shows that the di-ynes possess a somewhat higher thermal stability than the corresponding poly-ynes. Both the Pt(II) di-ynes and the poly-ynes exhibit increasing thermal stability along the series of spacers from phenylene through naphthalene to anthracene.

Syntheses of Acetylenic Oligophenylene Macrocycles Based on a Novel Dewar Benzene Building Block Approach. J Org Chem 2000; 65:4385-4390. Abstract
A general synthetic approach to strained p-phenylene-based acetylenic macrocycles is described. A key feature in this approach is exploitation of Dewar benzene as an angular p-phenylene synthon. Thus, 1,4-acetal-bridged 2,5-dichloro(Dewar benzene) 5, prepared in four steps from dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate and 1,2-dichloroethylene, is applied as such a building block in the syntheses of strained macrocycles 13 and anti-20. For the synthesis of 13, m-phenylene units are used as spacers and modified Eglington-Glaser coupling is applied for the macrocyclization step. For the synthesis of anti-20, on the other hand, o-phenylene units are used as spacers and Sonogashira coupling is applied for the macrocyclization step. Macrocycles 13 and anti-20 are characterized crystallographically, and their strained nature is reflected mainly in the deviation of the acetylene units from linearity; the C&tbd1;C-C angles range from 168.7(3) degrees to 179.9(3) degrees in 13 and from 168.0(5) degrees to 171.4(4) degrees in anti-20. Macrocycle 13 shows unique conformational property, namely, the p-phenylene units arranged in parallel in the rectangular framework rotate freely about the long axes, as evidenced by the (1)H NMR studies. Macrocycle anti-20 exhibits a Stokes shift of 179 nm, which is exceptionally large for phenylacetylene macrocycles, presumably owing to the characteristic stacking structure.
