Abstract
An analytical method for uranium determination in waters, wine and honey was developed based on solid phase extraction (SPE) with new ion imprinted polymer. The sorbent was synthesized using 4-(2-Pyridylazo)resorcinol (PAR) as a ligand via dispersion polymerization and characterized by SEM for morphology and shape of polymer particles and nitrogen adsorption–desorption studies for their surface area and total pore volume. The kinetic experiments performed showed that the rate limiting step is the complexation between U(VI) ions and chelating ligand PAR incorporated in the polymer matrix. Investigations by Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherm models showed that sorption process occurs as a surface monolayer on homogeneous sites. The high extraction efficiency of synthesized sorbent toward U(VI) allows its application for SPE determination of U(VI) in wine and honey without preliminary sample digestion using ICP-OES as measurement method. The recoveries achieved varied: (i) between 88 to 95% for surface and ground waters, (ii) between 90–96% for 5% aqueous solution of honey, (iii) between 86–93% for different types of wine. The validity and versatility of proposed analytical methods were confirmed by parallel measurement of U in water samples using Alpha spectrometry and U analysis in wine and honey after sample digestion and ICP-MS measurement. The analytical procedure proposed for U determination in surface waters is characterized with low limits of detection/quantification and good reproducibility ensuring its application for routine control in national monitoring of surface waters. The application of proposed method for honey and wine samples analysis provides data for U content in traditional Bulgarian products.

Abstract
A novel cobalt ion-imprinted polymer (Co(II)-MIIP) based on magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles was prepared by using Co(II) as the template ion, and bis(2-methacryloxyethyl) phosphate and glycylglycine as dual functional monomers. The fabricated material was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller, X-ray diffraction, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The adsorption experiments with Co(II)-MIIP, found that the maximum adsorption capacity could reach 33.4 mg·g−1, while that of the non-imprinted polymer (Co(II)-NIP) was found to reach 15.7 mg·g−1. The adsorption equilibriums of Co(II)-MIIP and Co(II)-NIP was established within 20 min and 30 min, respectively. The adsorption process could be suitably described by the Langmuir isotherm model and the pseudo-second-order kinetics model. In binary mixtures of Co(II)/Fe(II), Co(II)/Cu(II), Co(II)/Mg(II), Co(II)/Zn(II), and Co(II)/Ni(II), the relative selectivity coefficients of Co(II)-MIIP toward Co(II)-NIP were 5.25, 4.05, 6.06, 11.81, and 4.48, respectively. The regeneration experiments indicated that through six adsorption–desorption cycles, the adsorption capacity of Co(II)-MIIP remained nearly 90%.

Abstract
The important properties in the development of adsorbents for uranium extraction from seawater include specific selectivity to uranium ions and anti-biofouling ability in the ocean environment. In this paper, we report a novel strategy for efficient selective extraction of uranium from aqueous solutions and good anti-bacterial properties by surface ion-imprinted zeolite molecular sieves. Guanidine-modified zeolite molecular sieves 13X (ZMS-G) were synthesized and used as the support for the preparation of uranium(vi) ion-imprinted adsorbents (IIZMS-G) by ligands with phosphonic groups. The prepared IIZMS-G adsorbent was characterized via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The results showed that guanidine groups have been successfully introduced onto the support while its morphology structure was maintained. The adsorption performance and selectivity to U(vi) ions, antibacterial property, and reusability of IIZMS-G were evaluated. The results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity reached 141.09 mg g−1 when the initial concentration of metal ions was 50 mg L−1 at pH 6 and 20 °C. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. The IIZMS-G exhibits an efficient selective adsorption of U(vi) ions from aqueous solutions with competing ions. In addition, the IIZMS-G exhibited excellent inhibitory effects on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, and the inhibitory rate was 99.99% and 98.96% respectively. These results suggest that the prepared IIZMS-G adsorbent may promote the development strategy of novel high selectivity and antifouling adsorbents for uranium recovery from seawater. The important properties in the development of adsorbents for uranium extraction from seawater include specific selectivity to uranium ions and anti-biofouling ability in the ocean environment.![]()

Abstract
Plants roots are colonised by soil bacteria that are known to be the reservoir of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). ARGs can transfer between these microorganisms and pathogens, but to what extent these ARGs and pathogens disseminate from soil into plant is poorly understood. Here, we examined a high-resolution resistome profile along the soil-root continuum of mangrove saplings using amplicon and metagenomic sequencing. Data revealed that 91.4% of total ARGs were shared across four root-associated compartments (endosphere, episphere, rhizosphere and unplanted soil). Rather than compartment-selective dynamics of microbiota, the resistome was disseminated in a continuous fashion along the soil-root continuum. Such dissemination was independent of underlying root-associated bacterial and fungal microbiota, but might be facilitated by a multiplicity of mobile genetic elements. As the multiple-drug resistant pathogens, Vibrio vulnificus, pathogenic Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae consistently predominated across four compartments, indicating the potential dissemination of antibiotic pathogens along the soil-root continuum. Through deciphering the profile and dynamics of the root-associated resistome and pathogens, our study identified the soil-root continuum as an interconnected sink through which certain ARGs and pathogens can flow from soil into the plant.

Abstract
This study aims to synthesize and characterize an economical and ecological adsorbent with high adsorption capacity. For this purpose, the peanut shells (Pistacia vera L.) were modified chemically. After the synthesis of activated carbon (AC), the optimum conditions for enrichment steps were performed using parameters: pH and contact time for uranium in the model solutions. The measurements were carried out by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). From the shapes of the BET isotherms, the AC obtained exhibits type I. The study indicated that the surface area and total pore volume of the AC were found to be 679.9 m2 g-1 and 0.31 cc g-1, respectively. The adsorption capacity was found to be 260 mg g-1. The optimum pH was found to be 6.0 for enrichment using the AC obtained by sulfuric acid as a chemical-modifier. The optimized method was applied to enrichment of U at ppb levels in the model solutions.

Abstract
A novel uranium-imprinted adsorbent (AO-Imp fiber) was prepared by radiation-induced crosslinking of amidoxime-functionalized ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber (AO fiber). The porous structure was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and positron annihilation lifetime (PAL) spectroscopy after ion imprinting. This ion-imprinted fiber exhibited enhanced adsorption selectivity for uranium in the form of both UO2 2- and [UO2(CO3)3]4- in batch experiments. Compared with AO fiber, the adsorption capacity of the AO-Imp(250) fiber for uranium increased from 0.36 mg g-1 to 1.00 mg g-1 in simulated seawater and from 5.02 mg g-1 to 12.03 mg g-1 in simulated acid effluent, while its adsorption capacities for other co-existing metal ions were particularly low. This study provides an approach to prepare ion-imprinted adsorbents without introducing crosslinking reagents, which may be a promising method for uranium extraction.

Abstract
A core-shell surface imprinted uranyl magnetic chelating adsorbent (UMCA) was synthesized by combining the sol-gel process with the surface molecular imprinting technique (SMIT). A specific salophen and uranyl-salophen were designed and synthesized. Then, the synthesized uranyl-salophen complex was used as a template (in which uranyl is the target analyte), 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane as a functional monomer and tetraethylorthosilicate as a cross-linker. The obtained UMCA was characterized by a variety of modern analytical and detection techniques. The adsorbent can be used for the solid-phase extraction of uranyl with good selectivity, high adsorption capacity, magnetic separation characteristics and good reusability. The chelating sorbent was successfully applied for the separation of uranyl, followed by multiphase photocatalytic resonance fluorescence method determination in several environmental water samples with a relative standard deviation of <5.48% and spiked recoveries of 92.5% to 103.0%. The adsorption mechanism was preliminarily discussed.

Abstract
Abstract
The adsorptive extraction of uranium (VI) was investigated using multiwalled carbon nanotubes functionalized with dihydroimidazole (DIM-MWCNTs). Dihydroimidazole was grafted onto the surface of MWCNTs via silane coupling agent, N-(3-triethoxysilylpropyl)-4,5-dihydroimidazole. The new adsorbent was characterized using Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscope and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. DIM-MWCNTs were compared with MWCNTs and amidoxime modified MWCNTs (AO-MWCNTs) for uranium adsorption under seawater conditions. The adsorption capacity of uranium onto DIM-MWCNTs was 54.9 mg g−1 at 298 K, which was about 4 times of MWCNTs and similar to that of AO-MWCNTs. Compared with AO-MWCNTs, DIM-MWCNTs were more suitable for seawater pH, and less affected by vanadium. Although DIM-MWCNTs were more affected by carbonate than AO-MWCNTs, DIM-MWCNTs maintained a higher adsorption capacity than AO-MWCNTs due to its alkali resistance. Pyridine-like nitrogen (CH=N–CH) contributed to the adsorption of uranium. The results suggested that DIM-MWCNTs were a potential effective adsorbent for the separation of uranium under seawater condition.

Abstract
It is strategically important to recycle uranium from radioactive liquid wastes for future uranium supply of nuclear energy. However, it is still a challenge to adsorb uranium selectively from highly acidic and radioactive waste. In this paper, we report a novel strategy for effective uranium removal from highly acidic and radioactive media by surface ion-imprinted mesoporous silica sorbent. The sorbent was successfully synthesized by a co-condensation method with uranyl as the template ion and diethylphosphatoethyltriethoxysilane as the functional ligands. The pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir model showed better correlation with the sorption kinetic and isotherm data, and the sorption equilibrium could be reached within 40 min, the maximum adsorption capacity from Langmuir model was 80 mg/g in 1 mol/L nitric acid (HNO3) solution at 298.15 K. The sorbent showed faster kinetics and higher selectivity toward uranium over other ions compared with nonimprinted mesoporous and other previous sorbents. Furthermore, the ion-imprinted materials exhibited remarkable radioresistance stability and could be regenerated efficiently after five cycles. This work may provide a new approach for highly efficient sorption of uranium from strong HNO3 and radioactive media.
