Abstract
A Schiff base 5-(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidieneamino)-1-H-imidazole-4-carboxamide (HL) comprising multibinding sites has been synthesized with the aim of fabricating a supramolecular gel. The gelator HL was characterized by FT-IR, 1H & 13C NMR, and ESI-MS techniques and also formed a [Ni(L)2] complex. The gelation property of HL was investigated with various metal ions, wherein Ni(II) selectively forms a mechanically and thermally stable supramolecular metallogel (MG) in the presence of a triethylamine base in DMF-MeOH media. Characterization of MG was accomplished with different spectro-analytical techniques such as FT-IR, ESI-MS, powder-XRD, SEM, rheological investigations, UV/vis, and fluorescence. The gelator HL displays moderate emission upon addition of Ni2+ and gives "turn-off" fluorescence output by forming the complex [Ni(L)2] (MG) due to the chelation-enhanced quenching of fluorescence (CHEQ). Job plot and ESI-MS data suggested a 2:1 stoichiometry between HL and Ni(II) in MG. Further, MG exhibited highly selective and ultrasensitive "turn-on" fluorescence signaling with CN- in the background presence of several cations and anions. The limit of detection (LoD) of MG was determined to be 6.9 × 10-9 M for CN- using the fluorescence technique. Notably, MG behaves as a fluorescent writable pad material explicitly with CN- under 365 nm UV light but not under ordinary light and the fluorescent text is self-erased after 15 min. Hence, MG can be used as a metallogel pad in the presence of CN- to communicate secret messages. Overall, the present work explores the fabrication of a thermo- and mechanostable Ni(II)-metallogel (MG), which selectively and ultrasensitively detects CN- both in the solution phase and in the gel form, wherein MG behaves as a writable and self-erasable pad with anticounterfeiting features for practical applications.

Abstract
A rapid metallohydrogelation strategy has been developed of magnesium(II)-ion using trimethylamine as a low molecular weight gelator in water medium at room temperature. The mechanical property of the synthesized metallohydrogel material is established through the rheological analysis. The nano-rose like morphological patterns of Mg(II)-metallohydrogel are characterized through field emission scanning electron microscopic study. The energy dispersive X-ray elemental mapping analysis confirms the primary gel forming elements of Mg(II)-metallohydrogel. The possible metallohydrogel formation strategy has been analyzed through FT-IR spectroscopic study. In this work, magnesium(II) metallohydrogel (Mg@TMA) based metal-semiconductor-metal structures have been developed and charge transport behaviour is studied. Here, it is confirmed that the magnesium(II) metallohydrogel (Mg@TMA) based resistive random access memory (RRAM) device is showing bipolar resistive switching behaviour at room temperature. We have also explored the mechanism of resistive switching behaviour using the formation (rupture) of conductive filaments between the metal electrodes. This RRAM devices exhibit excellent switching endurance over 10,000 switching cycles with a large ON/OFF ratio (~ 100). The easy fabrication techniques, robust resistive switching behaviour and stability of the present system makes these structures preferred candidate for applications in non-volatile memory design, neuromorphic computing, flexible electronics and optoelectronics etc.

Abstract
A novel method has been successfully developed for creating supramolecular metallogels using zinc(ii) ions and 5-aminoisophthalic acid as the gelator (low molecular weight gelator) in a dimethylformamide (DMF) solvent at room temperature. Comprehensive rheological investigations confirm the robust mechanical strength of the resulting zinc(ii)-metallogel. Microstructural analysis conducted through field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) unveils a unique flake-like morphology, with energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) elemental mapping confirming the prevalence of zinc as the primary constituent of the metallogel. To understand the formation mechanism of this metallogel, Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy was employed. Notably, these supramolecular zinc(ii)-metallogel assemblies exhibit electrical conductivity reminiscent of metal-semiconductor (MS) junction electronic components. Surprisingly, the metallogel-based thin film device showcases an impressive electrical conductivity of 1.34 × 10-5 S m-1. The semiconductor characteristics of the synthesized zinc(ii)-metallogel devices, including their Schottky barrier diode properties, have been extensively investigated. This multifaceted study opens up a promising avenue for designing functional materials tailored for electronic applications. It harnesses the synergistic properties of supramolecular metallogels and highlights their significant potential in the development of semiconductor devices. This work represents a novel approach to the creation of advanced materials with unique electronic properties, offering exciting prospects for future innovations in electronic and semiconductor technologies.

Abstract
Sensing and monitoring hazardous contaminants in water and radioactive iodine sequestration is pivotal due to their detrimental impact on biological ecosystems. In this context, herein, a water stable zirconium-diimide based metallogel (Zr@MG) with fibrous columnar morphology is accomplished through the "heat set" method. The presence of diimide linkage with long aromatic chain manifests active luminescence properties in the linker as well as in the supramolecular framework structure. The as-synthesized Zr@MG xerogel can selectively detectCr2O72- (LOD = 0.52 ppm) and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) (LOD = 80.2 ppb) in the aqueous medium. The Zr@MG paper strip-based detection for Cr2O72- and nitro explosive makes this metallogel reliable and an attractive luminescent sensor for practical use. Moreover, a column-based dye separation experiment was performed to show selective capture of positively charged methylene blue (MB) dye with 98 % separation efficiency from the mixture of two dyes. Also, the Zr@MG xerogel showed effective iodine sequestration from the vapor phase (232 wt%).

Abstract
Wormlike micelles are conventional aggregates that exist in viscoelastic solutions. However, to achieve a solution with prominent viscoelasticity, rather high concentrations of surfactants are usually required due to the flexibility of aggregates in solution. If thread-like aggregates with rigidity can be formed by surfactants, the solutions are expected to show strong viscoelasticity at very low surfactant concentrations. Herein, A novel rosin-based quaternary ammonium surfactant with two head groups (abbreviated as R-11-3-DA) was synthesized. Cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (Cryo-TEM) images showed that flexible nanofibers with diameters of about 7-8 nm and lengths of over 1 μm were formed in the 1 : 1.5 R-11-3-DA : SL solutions. The rigidity of the aggregates seems to be inherited from the rigidity of the surfactant molecules. The novel aggregates endow the solutions with remarkable viscoelasticity at very low concentrations, with a critical overlap concentration of 0.01 wt% and a critical gelling concentration of 0.58 wt%. The rheological behavior of the solutions also shows excellent shear resistance and weak sensitivity to temperature below the critical gelation temperature (Tgel). This work reveals the advantages of viscoelastic solutions containing flexible nanofibers. The design principles of new molecular structures and system compositions can be applied to the preparation of smart soft materials based on the self-assembly of molecules.

Abstract
As novel solvents, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are non-toxic, easily producible and biocompatible, which is attractive for eutectogel fabrication. In this work, a benzene 1,3,5-tricarboxamide (BTA) derivative (substituted by three hexanoic acid) was selected to prepare a supramolecular gel in a suitable DES composed of choline chloride and phenylacetic acid molecules. The obtained eutectogel exhibited higher stability than that produced in conventional solvents. The gel microstructure was composed of spiral fiber networks as confirmed from atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy observations. Macroscopic chirality was therefore recognized by the circular dichromatic spectrum, though such a supramolecular chiral signal was random. To explore the gelation mechanism, the effect of BTA derivative molecular structure change was systematically investigated. With the help of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffraction, the gel formation was attributed to the π-π stacking of adjacent BTA molecules and the three-fold hydrogen bond between amide groups or the hydrogen bond between carboxylic groups. Furthermore, the directional hydrogen bonds between BTA and solvent molecules induced their aggregate to form one-dimensional fibers, which were either left- or right-handed. The obtained results not only extend the gel systems in DESs, but also help design the supramolecular chirality from non-chiral molecules.

Abstract
As one of the most important and fruitful methods, supramolecular self-assembly has a significant advantage in designing and fabricating functional soft materials with various nanostructures. In this research, a low-molecular-weight gelator, N,N'-di(pyridin-4-yl)-pyridine-3,5-dicarboxamide (PDA-N4), was synthesized and used to construct self-assembled gels via a solvent-mediated strategy. It was found that PDA-N4 could form supramolecular gels in mixed solvents of water and DMSO (or DMF) at high water fraction (greater than or equal to 50%). By decreasing the water fraction from 50% to 30%, the gel, suspension and solution phases appeared successively, indicating that self-assembled aggregates could be efficiently modulated via water content in organic solvents. Moreover, the as-prepared PDA-N4 supramolecular gels not only displayed solid-like behavior, and pH- and thermo-reversible characteristics, but also showed a solution-gel-crystal transition with the extension of aging time. Further analyses suggested that both the crystal and gel had similar assembled structures. The intermolecular hydrogen bonding between amide groups and the π-π stacking interactions between pyridine groups played key roles in gel formation. Additionally, the release behavior of vitamin B12 (VB12) from PDA-N4 gel (H2O/DMSO, v/v = 90/10) was evaluated, and the drug controlled release process was consistent with a first-order release mechanism. The human umbilical venous endothelial cell culture results showed that the PDA-N4 xerogel has good cytocompatibility, which implied that the gels have potential biological application in tissue engineering and controlled drug release.

Abstract
Sequestration of hazardous radioactive iodine and dye separation to reduce industrial waste through reutilization is pivotal for environmental safety. In this regard, herein, the synthesis of a new waterborne ultrasensitive supramolecular metallogel (Mg@DEOA) with a 2D sheet morphology is accomplished through direct mixing of a low molecular weight gelator diethanolamine and magnesium nitrate hexahydrate. This porous metallogel (180 m2 g-1) exhibits thixotropic properties and is injectable. The material was found to be an effective (587 mg g-1) host matrix for iodine sequestration from solution. Moreover, the Mg@DEOA xerogel was used to efficiently remove rhodamine B from a mixture of dyes with high separation factors through a xerogel packed column and as an adsorbent material for water-soluble dyes and CO. This column based application demonstrated by the metallogel could be useful for practical industrial dye-separation.

Square planar platinum(ii) complexes are attractive building blocks for multifunctional soft materials due to their unique optoelectronic properties. However, for soft materials derived from synthetically simple discrete metal complexes, achieving a combination of optical properties, thermoresponsiveness and excellent mechanical properties is a major challenge. Here, we report the rapid self-recovery of luminescent metallogels derived from platinum(ii) complexes of perfluoroalkyl and alkyl derivatives of terpyridine ligands. Using single crystal X-ray diffraction studies, we show that the presence of synergistic platinum-platinum (PtPt) metallopolymerization and fluorine-fluorine (FF) interactions are the major driving forces in achieving hierarchical superstructures. The resulting bright red gels showed the presence of highly entangled three-dimensional networks and helical nanofibres with both (P and M) handedness. The gels recover up to 87% of their original storage modulus even after several cycles under oscillatory step-strain rheological measurements showing rapid self-healing. The luminescence properties, along with thermo- and mechanoresponsive gelation, provide the potential to utilize synthetically simple discrete complexes in advanced optical materials.

Abstract
A fascinating way to originate a mechanically stable metallogel of ferric ions with metal-coordinating organic ligand triethylenetetramine through direct mixing of their water solutions in a stoichiometric ratio is achieved under ambient conditions. The rheological study established the mechanical property of the Fe(III) metallogel. A cashew-shaped microstructure of the metallogel was observed by FESEM analysis. The electrical property of the Fe(III) metallogel was also carefully scrutinized. The semiconducting features like the Schottky barrier diode property of the Fe(III) metallogel were explored. The catalytic role of the Fe(III) metallogel was also critically explored. The Fe(III) metallogel shows an excellent catalytic property toward the synthesis of aryl thioethers via a C-S coupling reaction under mild reaction conditions without the use of any organic solvent.

Abstract
Design of metal-selective hydrogels is attractive due to potential applications in materials and biological sciences. Although much progress has been made, assembly of both l- and d-amino acid derivatives was less explored for design of metallohydrogels. In this study, we synthesized a facile and small tryptophan derivative containing an imidazole ligand with both l- and d- configurations (denoted as l/d-ImW). Intriguingly, the assembly of (l+d)-ImW gelators was found to selectively form a Ni2+-hydrogel in aqueous medium at room temperature, which shows a rare purple color and exhibits excellent multi-responsiveness. In addition to insights into the gelation mechanism, this study provides a novel approach to the design of metallohydrogels, by the assembly of (l+d)-amino acid derivatives containing both aromatic rings and multiple metal coordination sites.

A pH-/thermo-responsive hydrogel formed from N, N'-dibenzoyl-l-cystine: properties, self-assembly structure and release behavior of SA. RSC Adv 2019; 9:11824-11832. Abstract
In this study, we report a pH-/thermo-responsive hydrogel formed by N,N'-dibenzoyl-l-cystine (DBC). It is difficult to dissolve DBC in water even on heating, and it exhibits no gelation ability. Interestingly, DBC is readily soluble in NaOH solution at room temperature and the self-assembled hydrogels are obtained by adjusting the basic DBC aqueous solution with HCl to achieve a given pH value (<3.5). When NaOH is added to the hydrogel (pH > 9.4), it becomes a sol again. This small-molecule hydrogel is characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, rheological measurement and differential scanning calorimetry. The results indicate that the DBC hydrogel exhibits excellent mechanical properties, thermo-reversibility, and pH-responsive properties. Fortunately, the single crystal of DBC is obtained by volatilizing its acid aqueous solution. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21 (Z = 2) with lattice parameters a = 10.8180 (11) Å, b = 9.0405 (9) Å, c = 10.9871 (11) Å and β = 90.798 (3)°. By comparing the X-ray diffraction result of the DBC single crystal with that of its xerogel, the self-assembled structure of DBC in hydrogel has been ascertained. The gelators are self-assembled via strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds linking neighboring amide and carboxyl groups, π-π stacking interactions for aromatic rings, and hydrogen bonds between water molecules. In addition, the release behavior of salicylic acid (SA) molecules from the DBC gel is also investigated taking into account the DBC concentration, phosphate buffer solution (PBS) pH and SA concentration. When the concentrations of DBC and SA are 3.0 g L-1 and 200 mg L-1, respectively, the release ratio in PBS (pH = 4.0) reaches 58.02%. The diffusion-controlled mechanism is in accordance with Fickian diffusion control within the given time range.

Abstract
Complexes of type [M(tpt)2]X2 (M2+ = Fe2+, Co2+, Ni2+; tpt = 2,4,6-tri{pyrazol-1-yl}-1,3,5-triazine; X- = BF4 - or ClO4 -) crystallize in a cubic lattice, with the metal ion and ligand conformation showing unusual symmetry-imposed disorder. Addition of 1 equiv AgX to the corresponding preformed [M(tpt)2]X2 salt in concentrated MeNO2 solution affords thixotropic gels. Gelation was not observed in analogous reactions using [Mn(tpt)2][ClO4]2, or from reactions in other, more donating solvents. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images from dilute solutions of the reagents confirmed the fibrous microstructure of the gels and their homogeneous elemental composition. However, energy-dispersive X-ray data show a reduced Fe/Ag ratio compared to the Co/Ag and Ni/Ag gels, where a 1:1 ratio of metals is evident. More concentrated gels decomposed to silver nanoparticles during SEM sample preparation. Mass spectrometry and 1H NMR indicate that silver induces partial ligand displacement reactions in [Fe(tpt)2]2+ and [Co(tpt)2]2+, but not in [Ni(tpt)2]2+. Hence, the strength of the gels, which follows the order M = Mn (no gel) < Fe < Co < Ni, correlates with the stability of octahedral [M(tpt)2]2+ under gelation conditions. Iron(II) complexes of the related ligands 2,4,6-tri{pyrazol-1-yl}pyridine (tpp) and 2,4,6-tri{pyrazol-1-yl}pyrimidine (tpym) did not undergo gelation with silver salts under the above conditions. The unique properties of tpt as a gelator in this work may reflect the crystallographically observed ability of metal-coordinated tpt to chelate to exogenous silver ions, through its pendant pyrazolyl group and triazinyl N donors. In contrast, the pendant azolyl substituents in silver complexes of the nongelators tpp and tpym only bind exogenous silver in monodentate fashion.

Abstract
In this study, a novel self-assembled metal-organic gel was synthesized from ferric nitrate and a di-topic ligand, bis(3-pyridyl)terephthalate. The gel consisted of a three dimensional network of uniform nanofibers. The gelation exhibited high selectivity to Fe(iii) based on metal-ligand coordination. The molar ratio of Fe3+ to ligand had a large influence on the assembly process and the morphology of the gel. The metallogel displayed multi-stimuli responsiveness and excellent heat resistance, thus was further applied as a thermo-stable template for the polymerization of N,N'-methylene bisacrylamide to produce the core/shell polymer composite nanowires. Subsequently, the polymer nanotubes were obtained after ammonia post-treatment, comfirming the feasibility of the template synthesis strategy. According to the rheological measurements, the gel-like products of the composite nanowires exhibited better mechanical strength compared to the gel template.

Abstract
Two organogelators G2 and G3 with a carboxamide group have been synthesized and characterized with different spectroscopic tools. Dimethylformamide or dimethyl sulfoxide solutions of both the compounds upon the addition of a minute quantity of water show the tendency to form gels. Supramolecular self-assembly for gel formation paves the way for aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) phenomena for both the gelator molecules. Introduction of metal ions in organogels strengthens the gel property without much affecting the fluorescence behavior. However, the introduction of Ag+, Fe2+, and Fe3+ ions in the G2 organogel separately results in total quenching of AIEE, making it possible to sense that particular cation in the gel state. The G3 organogel shows a similar behavior with the Fe2+ ion. Remarkably, other metallogels such as Ni(II)G2 and Co(II)G2 can sense sulfide ion and Cu(II)G2 can sense iodide ion by switching off the fluorescence even in multianalyte conditions. Furthermore, the copper-based metallogel Cu(II)G2 can be utilized as a catalyst and reaction medium for aerobic oxidation of catechol to quinone. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt known so far to utilize a metallogel material for bioinspired catalysis such as catechol oxidation.

Abstract
We report a simple strategy to prepare Tween 60@2β-CD self-assembly vesicles in aqueous solution as a new drug delivery carrier for cancer chemotherapy. The spherical shape of vesicles was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and mean particle sizes were about 33.7 nm, as measured by dynamic light scattering, micro-IR results indicated that the self-assembly vesicles was driven by hydrogen bonding. Hydrophilic doxorubicin (DOX) was successfully loaded into the self-assembly vesicles with drug loading content of 7.85% and loading efficiency of 42%. In addition, an in vitro cytotoxicity study and cellular uptake assays demonstrated that the DOX-loaded Tween 60@2β-CD vesicles markedly enhanced the cellular uptake and cytotoxicity of DOX toward the Hela cells. Furthermore, when used to evaluate the in vivo therapeutic efficacy in mice bearing the breast cell line (4T1), DOX-loaded vesicles exhibited superior inhibition of tumor growth compared with the DOX solutions.

Abstract
A new acylhydrazone-functionalized dual benzimidazole derivative gelator (L) was synthesized. L can self-assemble in DMSO-EG (ethylene glycol) or DMF-water mixtures to form a thermo-responsive supramolecular organogel (L-gel). In order to increase the fluorescence intensity of L-gel (DMSO-EG system), L-gel slowly turned into a clear solution upon addition of one equivalent of RE (rare earth) Y3+. Interestingly, this gelator L and Y3+ can be assembled into an enhanced blue-light-emitting supramolecular metallogel (Y@gel) in DMF-water mixtures.
