Abstract
We have found that derivatization of the trianglamine macrocycle by aliphatic aldehydes leads selectively to one of the two possible diastereomeric aminal products. X-ray analysis, NMR measurements and DFT calculations pointed to the product possessing a higher symmetry.

Abstract
Macrocyclic nitrogen-containing compounds are versatile molecules. Supramolecular, noncovalent interactions of these macrocycles with guest molecules enables them to act as catalysts, fluorescent sensors, chiral or nonchiral selectors, or receptors of small molecules. In the solid state, they often display a propensity to form inclusion compounds. All of these properties are usually closely connected with the presence of nitrogen atoms in the macrocyclic ring. As most of the reviews published so far on macrocycles were written from the viewpoint of functional groups, synthetic methods, or the structure, search methods for literature reports in terms of the physicochemical properties of these compounds may be unobvious. In this minireview, the emphasis was put on the synthesis and applications of nitrogen-containing macrocyclic compounds, as they differ from their acyclic analogs, and at the same time are the driving force for further research.

Abstract
Controlled release of singlet oxygen is of interest not only to chemists, but also to biologists and medics involved in cancer therapy. Two chiral polyaza macrocyclic compounds and their corresponding endoperoxides have been synthesized. These peroxides exhibit high temperature stability, up to 80 °C. Detailed studies on their structure, including X-ray analysis as well as NMR, UV-VIS ECD spectroscopy and theoretical calculations, combined with photochemical measurements indicate that their high stability is related to the arrangement of oxygen atoms in a conformationally stable macrocyclic ring. Despite the change of carbon hybridization from sp2 to sp3 at the 9 and 10 positions of the anthracene units, the macrocyclic skeleton of the obtained compounds does not change its conformation. The obtained endoperoxides can be formed and release singlet oxygen by irradiation with UV light of 365 and 275 nm, respectively. Release of the oxygen does not degrade the macrocyclic structure.

Abstract
Star-shaped six-arm poly-2-alkyl-2-oxazine and poly-2-alkyl-2-oxazoline with hexaaza [26]orthoparacyclophane derivative core were synthesized successfully using cationic ring-opening polymerization. Conformational behavior of prepared polymer stars were investigated by the methods of molecular hydrodynamics and optics in molecular dispersed solutions. It was shown that conformation characteristics of star-shaped polypeptoids depends on arm length, while the chemical structure weakly affects the behavior of the studied polymers in solutions. This behavior is caused by the close equilibrium rigidity of arms. The star-shaped polypeptoids have relatively high intramolecular density. All synthesized stars exhibit LCST behavior. Phase separation temperature depends on arm structure. It is lower for poly-2-alkyl-2-oxazines, monomer units of which contains one methylene group more than monomers of poly-2-alkyl-2-oxazoline.

Abstract
The chiral, triangular-shape hexaimine macrocycles (trianglimines), bearing bulky alkynyl or aryl substituents were synthesized and studied by means of experimental and theoretical methods. The macrocyclization reactions are driven by the extraordinary stability of the trianglimine ring and provided products with high yields. Electrostatic repulsion between imine nitrogen atoms and the substituents forced an anti conformation of the aromatic linkers. Although the DFT-optimized structure of 7 is D3 symmetrical, in the crystal, the macrocycle adopts a bowl-like molecular shape. The macrocycle self-assembles into tail-to-tail dimers by mutual interdigitation of aromatic moieties. In contrast, macrocycle 8 adopts a rigid pillararene-like conformation. The nature of the substituent significantly affects the electronic properties of the linker. As a result, unexpectedly high exciton Cotton effects are observed in the electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. The origin of these effects was subject of an in-depth study.

Abstract
Substituted 2,4- and 4,6-dihydroxyisophthalaldehydes were condensed with optically pure and racemic trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane to form resorcinarene-like polyimine macrocycles (resorcinsalens), the structure and stoichiometry of which were controlled by the choice of the reaction medium. Particularly, the cyclocondensation reactions were driven by the solubility, tautomerization, or by social self-sorting. The resorcinsalens crystallized as inclusion compounds, in which the guest molecules were situated either in channels or in voids. In the highly hydrated crystals of one of the [2+2] macrocycles and chloroform-solvated crystals of a [4+4] product the channels were interconnected, as in zeolites, enabling possible migration of loosely bound solvent molecules in three dimensions. The association mode depended on the structural modification of the host molecule and the type of included solvent molecule(s).

Abstract
Synthesis and detailed experimental and theoretical study on new urea and thiourea derivatives of chiral trianglamine are presented. In solution, the urea derivative of the trianglamine adopts cone conformation, whereas a respective thiourea derivative exists in solution predominantly as a partial cone conformer. In the crystalline phase, the thiourea trianglamine derivative adapts partial cone conformation. In the solid state, the two symmetry independent molecules of thiourea trianglamine create bilayers, containing molecules arranged in a zipper motif. The bilayers are separated by channels filled with disordered solvent molecules. The thiourea derivative of trianglimine appeared to be a simple, low molecular weight supergelator that formed stable chiral metallogels in N,N-dimethylformamide with Ag(I), Cu(I). and Cu(II) salts. The enantiomeric enrichment of the macrocycle is a necessary condition for effective gelling because neither racemic nor enantiomerically enriched samples (up to 50% ee) form metallogels. The metallogels formed from silver cations and thiourea trianglamine show reversible thixotropic property rarely observed in metallogels.

Abstract
Readily available chiral trianglimine and their (poly)oxygenated congeners represent a unique class of macrocyclic rigid compounds optimal for testing electronic and vibrational circular dichroism exciton chirality methods. Electronic and vibrational circular dichroism spectra of such trianglimines are strongly affected by polar substituents in macrocycle skeletons. Double substitution by OH groups in each aromatic fragment of the macrocycle causes sign reversal of the exciton couplet in the region of the strongest UV absorption. On the other hand, electronic circular dichroism spectrum of the macrocycle having 2 methoxy groups shows 2 exciton couplets-the long-wavelength positive and the second of the negative sign, observed at the shorter wavelengths. VCD spectra of macrocyclic imines show vibrational exciton couplets in the region of strong C=N stretches. The signs of these couplets are positive and the opposite of the diamine chirality. For trianglimine macrocycles the interpretation of VCD spectra in terms of excitons is much more convincing than for electronic circular dichroism spectra. By contrast, trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane-based vicinal diimines, being a one-third of the respective macrocycle, do not exhibit any vibrational exciton effect. Experimental data were confronted with DFT calculations. We observed good-to-excellent agreement between experimental and computed data.
