Abstract
Anti-microbial resistance has become a serious global health issue affecting millions of people worldwide. Despite extensive drug discovery efforts aimed at identifying potent molecules for effective anti-microbial treatments, the emergence of superbugs remains a significant challenge. Thus, developing novel therapeutic agents is required to combat these evolving threats. The quinoxaline scaffold emerges as a promising heterocyclic framework for developing novel anti-microbial agents. It's simple, flexible structure, coupled with its bioisosteric relationship to extensively explored quinoline and naphthalene scaffolds, offers a potential avenue for circumventing bacterial resistance developed against these established classes. Hence it has sparked interest in researchers to develop novel antibiotics based on the quinoxaline core. This review focuses on the recent advances of quinoxaline derivatives as anti-microbial agents and their structure-activity relationship studies based on the literature published from 2015 to 2024. The systematic presentation of this information will assist researchers in identifying key substitution patterns around the quinoxaline nucleus, facilitating the development of structure-activity relationship (SAR), and guiding the design of novel anti-microbial drugs to combat the growing threat of anti-microbial resistance.

Abstract
A new process has been developed for the bromine-promoted sequential (sp2)C = (sp2)C bond functionalization of (E)-3-styrylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones and furo[b]annulation via the 5-exo-cyclization in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The reaction represents a novel strategy for the synthesis of 2-aryl-3-(methylthio)furo[2,3-b]quinoxalines and involves 3-(1,2-dibromo-2-arylethyl)quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones and 2-arylfuro[2,3-b]quinoxalines as key intermediates. Furthermore, DMSO was converted to dimethyl sulfide in situ, which served as the methylthiolation reagent in the reaction. This protocol constitutes an efficient and convenient method for the annulation and methylthiolation of (E)-3-styrylquinoxalin-2(1H)-ones bearing a wide range of functional groups in high yields at room temperature.

Abstract
In this paper, we report the novel synthesis of three different heterocycles, namely 2-arylselenopheno[2,3-b]quinoxaline, 3-(aryl/alkylselanyl)-2-arylselenopheno[2,3-b]quinoxaline and 6-phenyl-7-(arylselanyl)selenopheno[2,3-b]pyrazine derivatives, from the corresponding 2,3-dichloroquinoxaline and 2,3-dichloropyrazine derivatives. Furthermore, photophysical properties were investigated to study the effect of heteroatoms on UV-absorbance and fluorescence properties.

Abstract
One palladium-catalyzed sequential coupling reactions were successfully used as a new protocol for the synthesis of unsymmetrical 2,3-diethynyl quinoxalines and 4-ethynyl-substituted pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoxalines. The one-pot two coupling reactions of 2,3-dichloroquinoxaline, with two different terminal alkynes, under controlled conditions produced selectively unsymmetrical 2,3-diethynyl quinoxalines with high yields. When one of the two terminal alkynes was 3-propyne-1-ol, in the presence of secondary amines, cyclization occurred and 4-ethynyl-substituted pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoxalines were successfully formed. All synthesized compounds were tested against the two bacterial strains including Micrococcus luteus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Abstract
Synthesis of 2,3-disubstituted 1-alkylpyrrolo[2,3-b]quinoxalines was accomplished through the reaction of 3-chloroquinoxalin-2-amines with internal alkynes in the presence of Pd(OAc)[Formula: see text], NaOAc, and KOtBu in DMSO. This method afforded desired pyrrolo[2,3-b]quinoxalines in 65-92% reaction yields. The minimum inhibition concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration determinations against Micrococcus luteus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa revealed that some of the synthesized compounds showed the same values compared to tetracycline. These compounds could be used in the future research for the development of new antibiotics.
