Abstract
Novel boronic acid-decorated metal-organic frameworks grown in situ on chitosan microspheres (CS@PD@BA-MOF) were fabricated for highly selective enrichment of cis-diol-containing nucleosides. The unique chemical properties of boric acid as ligand enable the MOF structure to form stable borate ester bond with the cis-diol-containing nucleoside, thus realizing highly selective and efficient capture of nucleoside compounds. The morphology and structure of CS@PD@BA-MOF composite was systematically characterized. The selective adsorption behavior and enrichment mechanism were investigated in details. The excellent adsorption properties of the composite also benefit from the multilayer adsorption mechanism, as well as the synergistic effect of boronate affinity, electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bond and π-π interaction, with the adsorption capacity of adenosine up to 133.15 mg g-1. Combining with high performance liquid chromatography, a sensitive method for the determination of nucleoside in urine samples was successfully established, with the limit of detection as low as 0.004 μg mL-1, and the relative recovery ranging from 90.34 % to 110.04 %. Moreover, the CS@PD@BA-MOF composite also demonstrates potential applications in removing dyes and heavy metals, further broadening its utility in environmental remediation.

Abstract
In this study, a novel boronic acid-functionalized magnetic porphyrin-based covalent organic framework (COF) with a core-shell structure was designed and synthesized for the selective enrichment and detection of nucleosides. Firstly, brominated porphyrin-based COF was in situ grown on Fe3O4-NH2 nanospheres (denoted as Fe3O4@Br-COF), then a post-synthetic modification strategy was used to introduce boronic acid into the framework via Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction to obtain boronic acid functionalized magnetic COF (denoted as Fe3O4@BA-COF). Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling possesses the advantages of mild synthesis conditions, high tolerance to functionalities, and ease of handling and separation, which is considered as a promising candidate for functionalizing COF. It is worth mentioning that the porphyrin-based COF possesses a unique nitrogen-rich skeleton and "trap" structure formed by four pyrrole rings, which can provide hydrogen bond and make it more suitable for trapping analytes than other types of COF. The boronic acid group provides boronate affinity, which enables better selective enrichment of cis-diol-containing nucleoside. The morphology and structure of the prepared Fe3O4@BA-COF was characterized by various methods. Based on the Fe3O4@BA-COF, a facile magnetic solid phase extraction coupled with high performance liquid chromatography method (MSPE-HPLC) was used to extract and detect adenosine, guanosine, uridine, and cytidine in urine samples. This work not only provides a mild and feasible post-synthetic modification method for fabrication of boronic acid-functionalized magnetic COF, but also provides an efficient and rapid method to selectively enrich and detect hydrophilic nucleosides.

Abstract
A novel pH-responsive magnetic graphene oxide composite (MGO@PEI-BA) is proposed for the first time as an adsorbent for the rapid capture and detection of nucleosides (cytidine, uridine, guanosine, and adenosine). The morphology, structure, and magnetic properties of the composite were evaluated using various characterization techniques. The results indicated that the composite was successfully fabricated. A series of parameters that affect extraction and elution were optimized through one-factor-at-a-time and Box-Behnken design of response surface methodology (BBD-RSM). The unique layered structures and easily accessible active sites of the composite facilitated molecular transport, resulting in instantaneous equilibrium of nucleosides adsorption within 5 min. Based on this study, a magnetic dispersive micro-solid-phase extraction (MD-μ-SPE) method assisted by the MGO@PEI-BA was developed in combination with UHPLC-UV analysis for the determination of nucleosides in rat urine. Under the optimum conditions, a wide linear range (10-2000 ng mL-1), good linearity (r > 0.99), low detection limits (1-3 ng mL-1), low relative standard deviations (RSDs ≤ 3.9%), and satisfactory recoveries (82.7-96.3%) were achieved. These results demonstrate that the MGO@PEI-BA is an excellent adsorbent for extracting nucleosides from biological samples.

Abstract
The design and synthesis of boronate affinity materials that show high efficiency, high selectivity, and high enrichment performance have gained significant attention. The principle of boronate affinity relies on the reversible covalent reactions, including the formation of stable five-membered or six-membered cyclic esters with cis-diol-containing compounds in alkaline aqueous media and dissociation of cyclic esters in an acidic surrounding to release cis-diol-containing compounds. Recently, various boronate affinity materials have been synthesized and utilized for selective enrichment of these compounds. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have been widely used in chromatographic separation and sample pretreatment because of their adjustable pore size, high porosity, high specific surface area, tunable skeleton structure, and favorable chemical and thermal stability. To promote the enrichment selectivity of MOFs and COFs for cis-diol-containing compounds, boronic acid-functionalized MOFs and COFs with various structures and categories have been synthesized. This review summarizes more than 80 investigations into the categories, synthetic strategies, and applications of boronic acid-functionalized MOFs and COFs from the Science Citation Index. These synthesis methods include metal ligand-fragment co-assembly, post-synthetic modification, and bottom-up modification of boronic acid-functionalized porous materials. Although two modification strategies (post-synthetic and metal ligand-fragment co-assembly) have been introduced for the preparation of boronic acid-functionalized MOFs, the latter is more commonly adopted as it improves the enrichment selectivity and enrichment efficiency of MOFs. The common limitations of MOFs such as aggregation and aperture issues were also resolved. Boron affinity MOFs possessing favorable properties according to the characteristics of cis-diol-containing compounds, have also been synthesized. Furthermore, to facilitate enrichment and separation, many boronic acid-functionalized magnetic material MOFs have been developed for the enrichment and analysis of cis-diol-containing compounds. Additionally, the luminescent properties of Ln-MOFs have been used in combination with boronic acid affinity for the enrichment, separation, and subsequent detection of cis-diol-containing compounds. Post-synthetic modification and the bottom-up strategy are the primary methods for the preparation of boronic acid-functionalized COFs. Boronic acid-functionalized COFs are less investigated than boronic acid-functionalized MOFs, likely due to the greater complexity of COF synthesis. This work aims to summarize the research advances, synthesis ideas, and synthesis methods related to boric acid-functionalized porous organic frameworks, which will provide theoretical guidance and technical support for its applications while accelerating the commercialization of such organic frameworks.

Abstract
N6-methyl-2'-deoxyadenosine (m6dA) is a newly discovered DNA epigenetic mark in mammals. N6-methyladenosine (m6A), 2'-O-methyladenosine (Am), N6,2'-O-dimethyladenosine (m6Am), and N6,N6-dimethyladenosine (m62A) are common RNA modifications. Previous studies illustrated the associations between the aberrations of these methylated adenosines in nucleic acids and cancer. Herein, we developed Fe3O4/graphene-based magnetic dispersive solid-phase extraction for the enrichment and hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HILIC-MS/MS) for the measurements of m6dA, m6A, Am, m6Am, and m62A in human urine samples. We found that malic acid could improve the HILIC-based separation of these modified nucleosides and markedly enhance the sensitivity of their MS detection. With this method, we accurately quantified the contents of these modified adenine nucleosides in urine samples collected from gastric and colorectal cancer patients as well as healthy controls. We found that, relative to healthy controls, urinary m6dA and Am levels are significantly lower for gastric and colorectal cancer patients; while gastric cancer patients also exhibited lower levels of urinary m6A, the trend was opposite for colorectal cancer patients. Together, we developed a robust analytical method for simultaneous measurements of five methylated adenine nucleosides in human urine, and our results revealed an association between the levels of urinary methylated adenine nucleosides and the occurrence of gastric as well as colorectal cancers, suggesting the potential applications of these modified nucleosides as biomarkers for the early detection of these cancers.

Abstract
Zeolite imidazole framework-based boronic acid-functionalized metal-organic frameworks (ZIF-67@PDA@BA-Zr-MOFs) were developed as an adsorbent for solid phase extraction (SPE) of luteolin (LTL) from peanut shell samples. Herein, ZIF-67 as a support matrix, polydopamine (PDA) as a coating to introduce amino and hydroxyl groups on the matrix surface to fix metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), zirconium tetrachloride (ZrCl4) as a precursor, terephthalic acid (TPA), and 3-carboxyphenylboronic acid (3-CPBA) as the mutual organic building blocks, and 3-CPBA was also a boronate affinity functional monomer. The effects of synthesis conditions, SPE conditions, selectivity, competitivity, reproducibility, and reusability were evaluated in detail. Under the optimal conditions, the maximum adsorption capacity is 71.4 mg g-1. The utility of ZIF-67@PDA@BA-Zr-MOFs as an adsorbent for SPE of LTL is supported by the presence of the abundant pore structure, as well as the boronate affinity sites facilitated the rapid binding of the adsorbent to the template. The concentration of the extracted LTL was determined by the high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet (HPLC-UV), with calibration plots being linear in the concentration range 0.05-100 mg L-1 and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.035 mg L-1. The method was applied to determine the LTL in peanut shell samples and recovered the target analyte in the range 85.6% to 99.2% (the standard deviations are less than 3.3%, n = 3). In addition, we incorporated boronate affinity and MOFs material into an SPE system to provide a promising strategy to detect other cis-diol-containing analytes in the complex matrix.

Abstract
Boronate affinity is an important method for the enrichment and separation of cis-diol containing compounds, but most of the conventional boronate materials suffer from weak binding strength as well as low binding capacity towards glycoproteins due to the use of single boronic acids as ligands. In this work, a novel multidentate boronate magnetic adsorbent was assembled by using amined polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane as spacer and a diboronic acid as ligand. The specially designed adsorbent exhibited high adsorption capacity for cis-diols due to the high density of phenylbronic acid moieties. More interestingly, the dissociation constants toward glycoproteins on the material were lowered to be ∼10-6 M, being at least 3 orders lower than the single boronic acid bonded adsorbents. By comparing the binding properties of small molecules containing one and two pairs of cis-diols, the enhanced binding strength of glycoproteins on the multidentate boronate magnetic adsorbent was attributed to the synergistic binding of glycoproteins on the special interface. The new materials successfully captured glycoproteins from 1000-fold diluted egg white, suggesting that the material could be an optional alternative adsorbent for enriching trace glycoproteins from complex bio-samples.

Abstract
A magnetite@graphene oxide nanocomposite was first coated with polyethylenimine and then modified with phytic acid and titanium(IV) ions. The high loading with Ti(IV) and the good hydrophilicity of PEI and PA result in a material that can be applied to the efficient extraction of highly polar nucleobases, nucleosides and nucleotides. The physicochemical properties of the composite were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, water contact angle measurements, thermogravimetric analysis, and vibrating sample magnetometry. A series of parameters that affect extraction and elution under the conditions of immobilized metal affinity chromatography (IMAC) and hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) were examined. The analytes were eluted from the nanocomposites using 10 mM trisodium phosphate as the elution solution in the IMAC mode, and 50% methanol-water as elution solution in the HILIC mode. Figures of merit include (a) an intra-day precision of 0.1-1.0% in the IMAC mode; (b) an intra-day precision of 0.4%-0.8% in the HILIC mode; (c) detection limits between 1.8-2.8 ng mL-1 in the IMAC mode; and (d) detection limits of 4.0-10.5 ng mL-1 in the HILIC mode. The method was applied to the extraction of the nucleotides cytidine-5'-monophosphate (CMP), uridine-5'-monophosphate (UMP), guanosine-5'-monophosphate (GMP), and adenosine-5'-monophosphate (AMP), and the nucleobases and nucleosides hypoxanthine, adenosine, cytosine, inosine and cytidine from Cordyceps sinensis, Lentinus edodes and plasma samples. Graphical abstract Schematic presentation of the workflow for the extraction of nucleobases, nucleosides and nucleotides using phytic acid-Ti(IV) functionalized magnetite@graphene oxide nanocomposites under two distinct modes.
