Abstract
Cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) is one of the most promising optical materials; however, the brittle COC suffers from issues including a low refractive index. In this contribution, by the introduction of high refractive index comonomers including phenoxy substituted α-olefin (C4OAr), p-tolylthio substituted α-olefin (C4SAr) and carbazolyl substituted α-olefins (C4NAr, C3NAr, and C2NAr), the zirconocene mediated terpolymerization of ethylene (E) and tetracyclododecene (TCD) produces the preferred E-TCD-CnNAr (n = 2, 3, and 4) cyclic olefin terpolymers (COT) with tunable compositions (TCD: 11.5- 35.8 mol %, CnNAr: 1.2-5.0 mol %), high molecular weights and high glass transition temperatures (up to 167 °C) in high catalytic activities. Compared to the E-TCD copolymer (COC) material, these COT materials show the comparable thermal decomposition temperature (Td,5% = 437 °C), slightly higher strain at break value (up to 7.4%) and higher tensile strength (up to 60.5 MPa). In particular, these noncrystalline optical COT materials have significantly higher refractive indices of 1.550-1.569 and are more transparent (transmittance: 93-95%), relative to the COC materials, indicative of an excellent optical material.

Abstract
The practical synthesis of polar-functionalized polyolefins using transition-metal-catalyzed copolymerization of olefins with polar monomers is a challenge; the use of heterogeneous catalysts is little explored. Herein, we report the synthesis of heterogeneous naphthoquinone-based nickel (Ni/SiO2 ) and palladium (Pd/SiO2 ) catalysts through hydrogen bonding interactions of the ligands with the silica surface. Ni/SiO2 exhibits high activities (up to 2.65×106 g mol-1 h-1 ) during the copolymerization of ethylene with 5-hexene-1-yl-acetate, affording high-molecular-weight (Mn up to 630 000) polar-functionalized semicrystalline polyethylene (comonomer incorporation up to 2.8 mol %), along with great morphology control. The resulting copolymers possess improved surface properties and great mechanical properties. Pd/SiO2 can mediate ethylene copolymerization with polar monomers with moderate activity to produce high-molecular-weight copolymers with tunable comonomer incorporation.

Abstract
Increasing the thermostability of α-diimine late-transition-metal complexes and therefore rendering them more active at higher temperatures is of great importance, yet challenging for the olefin polymerization field. In the present research, a new family of α-diimine palladium complexes that can promote norbornene polymerization at high temperatures (up to 140 °C) is disclosed. Because of the conformational restriction caused by increasing the axial and equatorial bulkiness as well as the presence of intraligand H···F hydrogen bonds, N-aryl rotations can be efficiently restricted, therefore circumventing the deactivation of the active species at high temperatures. At 80-140 °C, these complexes can efficiently catalyze norbornene homopolymerizations, giving high catalytic activities up to 5.65 × 107 g of PNB per mole Ni per hour and polymers with high molecular weights up to 37.2 × 104 g/mol, which are highly superior to catalytic systems mediated by CF3-free complexes. Moreover, these complexes could also afford medium catalytic activities in the presence of polar 5-norbornene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (NB-COOCH3).
