Abstract
Photocatalysis using transition-metal complexes is widely considered the future of effective and affordable clean-air technology. In particular, redox-stable, easily accessible ligands are decisive. Here, we report a straightforward and facile synthesis of a new highly stable 2,6-bis(triazolyl)pyridine ligand, containing a nitrile moiety as a masked anchoring group, using copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) click reaction. The reported structure mimics the binding motif of uneasy to synthesize ligands. Pulse radiolysis under oxidizing and reducing conditions provided evidence for the high stability of the formed radical cation and radical anion 2,6-di(1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)-pyridine compound, thus indicating the feasibility of utilizing this as a ligand for redox active metal complexes and the sensitization of metal-oxide semiconductors (e. g., TiO2 nanoparticles or nanotubes).

Abstract
The utilization of economical and environmentally benign transition metals in crucial catalytic processes is pivotal for sustainable advancement in synthetic organic chemistry. Iron, as the most abundant transition metal in the Earth's crust, has gained significant attention for this purpose. A combination of FeCl2 (5 mol%) in the presence of phenanthroline (10 mol%) and NaOtBu (1.5 equivalent) proved effective for the C(α)-alkylation of oxindole, employing challenging secondary alcohol as a non-hazardous alkylating agent. The C(α)-alkylation of oxindole was optimized in green solvent or under neat conditions. The substrate scope encompasses a broad array of substituted oxindoles with various secondary alcohols. Further post-functionalization of the C(α)-alkylated oxindole products demonstrated the practical utility of this catalytic alkylation. One-pot C-H hydroxylation of alkylated oxindoles yielded 3-alkyl-3-hydroxy-2-oxindoles using air as the most sustainable oxidant. Low E-factors (3.61 to 4.19) and good Eco-scale scores (74 to 76) of these sustainable catalytic protocols for the alkylation and one-pot sequential alkylation-hydroxylation of oxindoles demonstrated minimum waste generation. Plausible catalytic paths are proposed on the basis of past reports and control experiments, which suggested that a borrowing hydrogen pathway is involved in this alkylation.

Abstract
A photoredox-neutral radical-radical cross-coupling is described for the synthesis of 3-hydroxy-3-alkyloxindoles using isatins and benzyl carboxylic acids as substrates and 2,4,5,6-tetra(9H-carbazol-9-yl)isophthalonitrile (4CzIPN) as the photocatalyst. The method features a broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance, providing 30 sterically hindered alcohols with moderate to excellent yields. This approach utilizes inexpensive and commercially available starting materials, avoiding the use of transition metals, extra oxidants/reductants, and harsh reaction conditions, showcasing significant applicability and environmental friendliness.

Abstract
Readily available 3-alkylideneoxindoles were effectively reduced to 3-alkyloxindoles through transfer hydrogenation using Hantzsch ester as a reducing agent at ambient temperature and the greenness/sustainability of this protocol was assessed by correlation with Pd/C-mediated hydrogenation with hydrogen gas. Furthermore, an organocatalytic method was developed to access drug-like 3-alkyl-3-hydroxyoxindoles by C-H oxidation of 3-alkyl-indolin-2-one, using a catalytic amount of 1,1,3,3-tetramethylguanidine (TMG) as an organic base and dissolved oxygen in THF as an oxidant at room temperature. Key reaction intermediates were observed by controlled on-line ESI-HRMS experiments and identified by their corresponding mass (m/z) analysis. This two-step high-yielding transfer hydrogenation/C-H oxidation protocol was used for the total synthesis of medicinally important 3-cyanomethyl-3-hydroxyoxindole and formal total synthesis of (±)-alline and (±)-CPC-I in very good overall yields compared to previous methods.

Herein, we present
a general electrochemical method to access unsymmetrical
3,3-disubstituted oxindoles by direct C–H functionalization
where the oxindole fragment behaves as an electrophile. This Umpolung
approach does not rely on stoichiometric oxidants and proceeds under
mild, environmentally benign conditions. Importantly, it enables the
functionalization of these scaffolds through C–O, and by extension
to C–C or even C–N bond formation.

Abstract
A visible-light-enabled, photocatalyst-free conjugate addition reaction of dehydroamino acids is disclosed. Employing 4-acyl-1,4-dihydropyridines as both a radical reservoir and reductant, various β-acyl α-amino acids and their deuterated analogues were obtained in good results. Both late-stage peptide modification and stereoselective synthesis of chiral oxazolidinones are successfully achieved. The protocol is characterized by mild conditions and efficient derivatization, thus unlocking a novel blueprint to access unnatural amino acid derivatives, important building blocks with potential application in the peptidomimetic toolbox.

Abstract
Although transition metal phosphides are well studied as electrocatalysts and hydrotreating catalysts, the application of metal phosphides in organic synthesis is rare, and cooperative catalysis between metal phosphides and supports remains unexplored. Herein, we report that a cerium dioxide-supported nickel phosphide nanoalloy (nano-Ni2P/CeO2) efficiently promoted the C-3 alkylation of oxindoles with alcohols without any additives through the borrowing hydrogen methodology. Oxindoles were alkylated with various alcohols to provide the corresponding C-3 alkylated oxindoles in high yields. This is the first catalytic system for the C-3 alkylation of oxindoles with alcohols using a non-precious metal-based heterogeneous catalyst. The catalytic activity of nano-Ni2P/CeO2 was comparable to that reported for precious metal-based catalysts. Moreover, nano-Ni2P/CeO2 was easily recoverable and reusable without any significant loss of activity. Control experiments revealed that the Ni2P nanoalloy and the CeO2 support functioned cooperatively, leading to a high catalytic performance.

The hybrid bidentate 1-(2-pyridyl)benzotriazole (pyb) ligand was introduced into 3d transition metal catalysis. Specifically, [CuII (OTf)2 (pyb)2 ]⋅2 CH3 CN (1) enables the synthesis of a wide range of propargylamines by the A3 coupling reaction at room temperature in the absence of additives. Experimental and high-level theoretical calculations suggest that the bridging N atom of the ligand imposes exclusive trans coordination at Cu and allows ligand rotation, while the N atom of the pyridine group modulates charge distribution and flux, and thus orchestrates structural and electronic precatalyst control permitting alkyne binding with simultaneous activation of the C-H bond via a transient CuI species.

Abstract
Covalent attachment of a 1,2,4-triazole iridium complex to mesoporous MCM-41 generated a heterogeneous catalyst that was found to be effective in the synthesis of 2-aryl isoindolines, quinolines, cyclic amines, and symmetrical secondary amines through a cascade borrowing hydrogen strategy. Interestingly, the supported heterogeneous iridium catalyst prepared from the 1,2,4-triazole iridium complex and mesoporous MCM-41 exhibited high catalytic activity in the preparation of 2-aryl isoindoline derivatives and symmetrical secondary amines. The catalyst system is highly recyclable for at least five times. Besides the important effect of the triazole, iridium sites grafted on siliceous supports can act as multifunctional catalytic centers and thus greatly enhance the catalytic activity of the catalysts. Furthermore, mechanistic experiments revealed that the reaction is initiated by an initial alcohol dehydrogenation and promoted by an iridium hydride intermediate. Importantly, the direct detection of a diagnostic iridium hydride signal confirmed that the synthesis of 2-aryl isoindolines occurs by a borrowing hydrogen process. This work provides an efficient example of isoindolines synthesis through a borrowing hydrogen strategy.

Abstract
A general and efficient iron-catalyzed C-alkylation of oxindoles has been developed. This borrowing hydrogen approach employing a (cyclopentadienone)iron carbonyl complex (2 mol %) exhibited a broad reaction scope, allowing benzylic and simple primary and secondary aliphatic alcohols to be employed as alkylating agents. A variety of oxindoles underwent selective mono-C3-alkylation in good-to-excellent isolated yields (28 examples, 50-92 % yield, 79 % average yield).
