Electrochemical Oxidative Reassembly of 1,3-Diketones with Aryl Alkenes and Water via Carbon-Carbon Bond Cleavage Rearrangement

We report the electrochemical cleavage and reassembly of 1,3-diketones with aryl alkenes and water for the synthesis of 1,4-ketoalcohol derivatives. This approach represents the first example of formal carbon-carbon cleavage of 1,3-diketones and alkene insertion via electro-oxidation, enabling the direct synthesis of diverse 1,4-ketoalcohol derivatives in good to high yields. The developed strategy employs an electrochemical approach using inexpensive commercial carbon electrodes in an undivided cell under mild and operationally simple conditions.

Photochemical Alkylamination of Olefins through Reactivity-Based Sorting of Alkyl Radicals

Alkyl radicals represent some of the most intriguing prospects in organic synthesis, showing diverse patterns of reactivity for versatile transformations. In light of this, the methyl radical, in addition to being a methylating agent, is also a good proposition for hydrogen atom transfer (HAT). Similarly, acetonitrile also has dual facets to its reactivity, acting as an amination reagent in the Ritter reaction while also being the progenitor to cyanomethyl radicals through HAT. We hereby take advantage of the merging of the dual reactivities of these radicals, allowing facile access to amines of various types from olefins when conjugated with a photoredox Ritter amination.

Copper/iron controlled regioselective 1,2-carboazidation of 1,3-dienes with acetonitrile and azidotrimethylsilane

Carboazidation and diazidation were carried out on 1,3-diene compounds using TMSN3 as the azide source and MeCN as the cyanoalkylation reagent. This method exhibits excellent functional group tolerance, a broad substrate range, and a short reaction time, providing an effective pathway for synthesizing valuable azides. Our report introduces an unprecedented strategy for the carboazidation and diazidation of 1,3-dienes, with mechanism studies indicating that the reaction involves a radical pathway.

Selective divergent radical cyclization of 1,6-dienes with alkyl nitriles

An efficient, selective, and step economical radical cyclization of 1,6-dienes with alkyl nitriles initiated by α-C(sp³)-H functionalization under the Sc(OTf)₃ and Ag₂CO₃ system is described here. The selective divergent cyclization relies on the substitution effect at the α-position of the acrylamide moiety and nitriles, which is terminated by hydrogen abstraction, direct cyclization with the aryl ring, or further cyclization with the CN bond and hydrolysis, respectively.

Efficient copper(i)-catalyzed oxidative intermolecular 1,2-estersulfenylation of styrenes with peroxyesters and disulfides

A simple and practical method for the synthesis of thio-substituted esters through copper(i)-catalyzed intermolecular 1,2-estersulfenylation of styrenes with peroxyesters and disulfides was developed. In this transformation, two new C-S bond and C-O bond were constructed simultaneously under a copper catalyst system, and the transformation exhibits a broad substrate scope and good functional group compatibility. In addition, this method can also be applied to arylthiols. It should be noted that peroxyesters not only acted as nucleophilic reagents but also as oxidants.

Organophotoredox-Catalyzed Three-Component Coupling of Heteroatom Nucleophiles, Alkenes, and Aliphatic Redox Active Esters

This manuscript describes a visible-light-mediated organophotoredox catalytic process for vicinal difunctionalization of alkenes using heteroatom nucleophiles and aliphatic redox active esters. A wide range of heteroatom nucleophiles including alcohols, water, carboxylic acids, amides, and halogens can be used for this reaction. This radical relay type reaction allows forging of C(sp³)-C(sp³) with a carbon-centered radical and C(sp³)-heteroatom bonds with a benzyl cation on the vinylarenes with complete regioselectivity in a single step.

Pd(II)-Catalyzed One-Pot Multiple C-C Bond Formation: En Route Synthesis of Succinimide-Fused Unsymmetrical 9,10-Dihydrophenanthrenes from Aryl Iodides and Maleimides

An expeditious approach has been developed for the synthesis of succinimide-fused unsymmetrical 9,10-dihydrophenanthrenes from simple aryl iodides and maleimides. The developed transformation, overall proceeding with high regioselectivity via a cascade approach through palladium(II)-catalyzed Micheal-type addition/C-H activation/intramolecular cross-dehydrogenative coupling (ICDC)/C-H activation, allows formation of four fundamental carbon-carbon bonds in one-pot fashion. The reactions tolerate broad functional groups and satisfy the parameters of atom and step economy. Detailed mechanistic studies were carried out to support the proposed synthetic pathway.
