Abstract
Three ruthenium(III) complexes with pyrazolopyrimidine [Ru(Ln)(H2O)Cl3] (1-3, n = 1-3) were prepared and characterized. These Ru(III) compounds show strong cytotoxicity against six cancer cell lines and low toxicity to normal human liver cells. Particularly, they exhibited stronger cytotoxicity to SK-OV-3 cells than cisplatin. Mechanism studies revealed that complex 1 inhibited tumor cell invasion and suppressed cell proliferation, induced apoptosis by elevating the levels of intracellular ROS (reactive oxygen species) and free calcium (Ca2+), and reduced mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨ). It also activated the caspase cascade, accompanied with upregulation of cytochrome c, Bax, p53, Apaf-1 and downregulation of Bcl-2. Moreover, complex 1 caused cell cycle arrest at S phase by inhibiting the expression of CDC 25, cyclin A2 and CDK 2 proteins, and induced DNA damage by interacting with DNA and inhibiting the topoisomerase I enzyme. Complex 1 exhibited efficient in vivo anticancer activity in a model of SK-OV-3 tumor xenograft.

Abstract
Schiff bases are a vast group of compounds characterized by the presence of a double bond linking carbon and nitrogen atoms, the versatility of which is generated in the many ways to combine a variety of alkyl or aryl substituents. Compounds of this type are both found in nature and synthesized in the laboratory. For years, Schiff bases have been greatly inspiring to many chemists and biochemists. In this article, we attempt to present a new take on this group of compounds, underlining of the importance of various types of Schiff bases. Among the different types of compounds that can be classified as Schiff bases, we chose hydrazides, dihydrazides, hydrazones and mixed derivatives such as hydrazide-hydrazones. For these compounds, we presented the elements of their structure that allow them to be classified as Schiff bases. While hydrazones are typical examples of Schiff bases, including hydrazides among them may be surprising for some. In their case, this is possible due to the amide-iminol tautomerism. The carbon-nitrogen double bond present in the iminol tautomer is a typical element found in Schiff bases. In addition to the characteristics of the structure of these selected derivatives, and sometimes their classification, we presented selected literature items which, in our opinion, represent their importance in various fields well.

Abstract
Abstract
Schiff bases are in the field of medicinal and material chemistry for a long time. There are several advancements from time to time towards facile synthesis and potential applications. As medicines they have been applied as organic molecules as well as their metal complexes. The activities of metal complexes have been found to increase due to increase lipophilicity in comparison to the corresponding free ligand. Besides simple coordination compounds they have been applied as ionic liquid (IL)- supported and IL-tagged species with far enhanced efficiency. Among metal complexes recent advancement deals with photodynamic therapy to treat a number of tumors with fewer side effects. Schiff bases are efficient ligands and their complexes with almost all metal ions are reported. This mini-review article deals with complexes of Schiff bases with biologically compatible metal ions, Co(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Pd(II), Ag(I), Pt(II) and their potential uses to combat cancerous cells. Strong hopes are associated with photodynamic therapy and IL-tagged and IL-supported Schiff bases and their complexes.

Abstract
In the title compound, C20H19N3O4, the dihedral angles between the central pyrazole ring and the pendant phenyl and substituted benzene rings are 50.95 (8) and 3.25 (12)°, respectively, and an intra-molecular C-H⋯O link generates an S(6) ring. The benzodioxolyl ring adopts a shallow envelope conformation with the methyl-ene C atom as the flap. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are linked by non-classical C-H⋯O inter-actions, which generate a three-dimensional network. Solvent-accessible voids run down the c-axis direction and the residual electron density in these voids was modelled during the refinement process using the SQUEEZE algorithm [Spek (2015 ▸). Abstract
The interaction of two binuclear mixed ligand Cu(ii) complexes [Cu(o-phen)LCu(OAc)] (1) and [Cu(o-phen)LCu(o-phen)](OAc) (2) (H3L = o-HOC6H4C(H)[double bond, length as m-dash]N-NH-C(OH)[double bond, length as m-dash]N-N[double bond, length as m-dash]C(H)-C6H4OH-o) and a new mononuclear Zn(ii) complex [Zn(HL)(o-phen)(H2O)](OAc)·H2O (3) (H2L = o-HOC6H4-C(H)[double bond, length as m-dash]N-NH-C([double bond, length as m-dash]O)-NH-N[double bond, length as m-dash]C(H)-C6H4OH-o, o-phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, and OAc = CH3COO-) with human serum albumin (HSA) was studied using fluorescence quenching, synchronous and 3D fluorescence measurements and UV-vis spectroscopy. 3D fluorescence studies showed that the HSA structure was altered at the secondary and tertiary levels upon binding with the complexes. This was further supported by the electronic absorption spectral studies of HSA in the absence and presence of the compounds. The average binding distance (r) between HSA and the complexes was obtained by Förster's resonance energy transfer theory. Complex 3 was structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. Molecular docking studies indicated that all three complexes primarily bind to HSA in subdomain IIA with amino acid residues such as Arg218 and Lys199 which are located at the entrance of Sudlow's site I. The in vitro cytotoxicities of complexes 1-3 against HeLa cells showed promising anticancer activity (IC50 = 3.5, 3.9 and 16.9 μM for 1, 2 and 3, respectively). Live cell time lapse imaging for 1 was done to capture the dynamic behavior of the cells upon treatment with the complex. Cell cycle analysis by flow cytometry with HeLa cells indicated that 1 and 2 induced cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase while 3 induced arrest in the G0/G1 phase leading to cell death. Compounds 1 and 2 but not 3 induced apoptosis through the mitochondrial pathway as suggested from the relative p53, caspase3 and bcl2 mRNA levels measured by real-time quantitative PCR analysis.

Abstract
A hydrazone ligand, (E)-6-(2-((2-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl)methylene)hydrazinyl)nicotinohydrazide (H2L), was synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic methods. The reaction of H2L with CuCl2·2H2O in methanol gave Cu(II) coordination compound, [Cu(HL')(Cl)]·CH3OH (1), which was characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods (Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and UV-vis). The structure of 1 was also determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis. Structural studies confirmed the formation of esteric group during the synthesis of 1. Compound 1 was immobilized on 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTS)-functionalized silica gel through the amidification reaction and the obtained heterogeneous coordination compound was utilized as a catalyst for the three-component azide-epoxide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction in water as a green solvent. The structural properties of the heterogeneous catalyst were characterized by a combination of FT-IR, UV-vis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS) analyses. The effect of the amount of catalyst and temperature on the cycloaddition reaction was studied, and the obtained 1,2,3-triazoles were characterized by spectroscopic studies and single-crystal X-ray analysis. The catalytic investigations revealed that this catalytic system has high activity in the synthesis of β-hydroxy-1,2,3-triazoles. It was also found that the aromatic and aliphatic substituents on the alkyne and epoxide together with the reaction temperature have considerable effects on the activity and regioselectivity of this catalytic system.
