Abstract
The ability to collectively program chiral recognition and the hierarchical self-assembly of molecular and supramolecular building blocks into complex higher-order superstructures is a significant goal in supramolecular chemistry. Metal-organic cages are excellent model systems to examine chiral self-sorting and build hierarchical self-assembly. Herein, details on how limiting the conformational flexibility and incorporating hydrogen bonding functional groups in the ligands can influence chiral self-sorting and hierarchical self-assembly of metal-organic cages are reported. The urea-functionalized axially chiral bis-pyridyl ligands afford high-fidelity in chiral self-sorting in Pd2L4 cages, when they have fewer conformations. Ligand L1, with more conformations, affords mixture of heterochiral and homochiral cages (≈70:30). Among them, the heterochiral cage adopts unusual twisted conformation and self-assembles into 2D sheets, linked by anion coordination between urea and nitrate. Ligand L2, with fewer conformations, affords homochiral cages via high-fidelity chiral self-sorting. The choice of counter anions influences further self-sorting in the solid state: racemate with PF6 - and spontaneously resolves conglomerate with BF4 -. Urea-BF4 hydrogen bonding directs hierarchical self-assembly of the Pd2L4 metal-organic cages into super-cubic networks. The study introduces a new approach in hierarchical self-assembly of metal-organic cages into higher-order networks aided by hydrogen bonding anion coordination with functional ligands.

Abstract
Chiral self-sorting during the formation of cage-like molecules continues to fascinate and advance our understanding of the phenomenon in general. Herein, we report the chiral self-sorting in the Pd6 L12 -type metal-organic cages. When a racemic mixture of axially chiral bis-pyridyl ligands undergo coordination-driven self-assembly with Pd(II) ions to form Pd6 L12 -type cages, the system has the option of chiral self-sorting to afford any of at least 70 pairs of (one homochiral and 69 heterochiral) enantiomers and 5 meso isomers or a statistical mixture of everything. However, the system resulted in diastereoselective self-assembly through a high-fidelity chiral social self-sorting to form a racemic mixture of D3 symmetric heterochiral [Pd6 (L6R/6S )12 ]12+ /[Pd6 (L6S/6R )12 ]12+ cages.

Abstract
When a racemic mixture of chiral building blocks self-assembles to form discrete molecular or supramolecular cages, the system can adopt either social or narcissistic chiral self-sorting. However, control over such chiral self-sorting is hard to achieve with a desired choice of outcome. Herein, we report anion templated high-fidelity chiral self-sorting during the coordination-driven self-assembly of [Pd2 L4 ] metal-organic cages, with a racemic mixture of an axially chiral ligand. Upon varying the counter-anions, the outcome of the choice of chiral self-sorting, whether social or narcissistic, leading to kinetically favored heterochiral or thermodynamically favored homochiral cages, can be controlled through specific anion encapsulation. Non-encapsulating anion afforded a mixture of all possible diastereomers. Anion exchange enabled structural transformations between the diastereomers and the conversion of the mixture of diastereomers into homochiral diastereomers.

Abstract
The competition of different chiral ligands in the control of stereochemistry of hierarchically formed helical coordination compounds is investigated. It is found that sterically demanding chiral units can dominate the chiral induction of the helix even if they are present as a minor species. Hereby the relative strength of stereoinduction of different chiral units can be evaluated.

Abstract
Self-assembly of naked PdII ions separately with newly designed bis(3-pyridyl)benzothiadiazole (L1) and bis(3-pyridyl)thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole (L2) donors separately, under varying experimental conditions, yielded Pd4L8 (L= L1 or L2) tetrahedral cages and their homologous Pd3L6 (L= L1 or L2) double-walled triangular macrocycles. The resulting assemblies exhibited solvent, temperature, and counteranion induced dynamic equilibrium. Treatment of L1 with Pd(BF4)2 in acetonitrile (ACN) resulted in selective formation of a tetrahedral cage [Pd4(L1)8](BF4)8 (1a), which is in dynamic equilibrium with its homologue triangle [Pd3(L1)6](BF4)6 (2a) in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). On the other hand, similar self-assembly using L2 instead of L1 yielded an equilibrium mixture of tetrahedral cage [Pd4(L2)8](BF4)8 (3a) and triangle [Pd3(L2)6](BF4)6 (4a) forms in both ACN and DMSO. The assembles were characterized by multinuclear NMR and ESI-MS while the structure of the tetrahedral cage (1a) was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Existence of a dynamic equilibrium between the assemblies in solution has been investigated via variable temperature 1H NMR. The equilibrium constant K = ([Pd4L8]3/[Pd3L6]4) was calculated at each experimental temperature and fitted with the Van't Hoff equation to determine the standard enthalpy (ΔH°) and entropy (ΔS°) associated with the interconversion of the double-walled triangle to tetrahedral cage. The thermodynamic feasibility of structural interconversion was analyzed from the change in ΔG°, which suggests favorable conversion of Pd3L6 triangle to Pd4L8 cage at elevated temperature for L1 in DMSO and L2 in ACN. Interestingly, similar self-assembly reactions of L1 and L2 with Pd(NO3)2 instead of Pd(BF4)2 resulted in selective formation of a tetrahedral cage [Pd4(L1)8](NO3)8 (1b) and double-walled triangle [Pd3(L2)6](NO3)6 (4b), respectively.

Abstract
Structural designs combining cycloparaphenylenes (CPPs) backbone with planar chiral [2.2]Paracyclophane ([2.2]PCP) lead to optical-active chiral macrocycles with intriguing properties. X-ray crystal analysis revealed aesthetic necklace-shaped structures and size-dependent packages with long-range channels. The macrocycles exhibit unique photophysical properties with high fluorescence quantum yield of up to 82%, and the fluorescent color varies with ring size. In addition, size-dependent chiroptical properties with moderately large CPL dissymmetry factor of 10 -3 and CPL brightness in the range of 30 - 40 M -1 cm -1 were observed.

Abstract
Multinuclear metal complexes have seen tremendous progress in synthetic advances, their versatile structural features, and emerging applications. Here, we conceptualize Metal-to-Metal distance modulation in cyclophanyl metal complexes by bridging ligand design employing the co-facially stacked cyclophanyl-derived pseudo-geminal, -ortho, -meta, and -para constitutional isomers grafted with N-, O-, and P- containing chelates that allow the installation of diverse (hetero)metallic moieties in a distance-defined and spatially-oriented relation to one another. Metal-to-Metal distance modulation and innate transannular "through-space" π-π electronic interactions via the co-facially stacked benzene rings in cyclophanyl-derived complexes as well as their specific stereochemical structural features (element of planar chirality) are crucial factors that contribute to the tuning of structure-property relationships, which stand at the very center from the perspective of cooperative effects in catalysis as well as emerging material applications.

Abstract
[2.2]Paracyclophane scaffolds have seen limited use as building blocks in supramolecular chemistry. Here, we report the synthesis and characterization of a 1D coordination polymer consisting of silver(I) ions bound to a [2.2]paracyclophane scaffold functionalized with two 4-pyridyl units. The structure of the polymer has been determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and reveals two different silver coordination motifs that alternate along the 1D coordination polymer. The coordination polymer exhibits strong blue and sky-blue fluorescence in solution and in the crystalline solid state, respectively.

Abstract
This short review focuses on enantiopure planar chiral [2.2]paracyclophanes (pCps), a fascinating class of molecules that possess an unusual three-dimensional core and intriguing physicochemical properties. In the first part of the review, different synthetic strategies for preparing optically active pCps are described. Although classical resolution methods based on the synthesis and separation of diastereoisomeric products still dominate the field, recent advances involving the kinetic resolution of racemic compounds and the desymmetrization of meso derivatives open up new possibilities to access enantiopure key intermediates on synthetically useful scales. Due to their advantageous properties including high configurational and chemical stability, [2.2]paracyclophanes are increasingly employed in various research fields, ranging from stereoselective synthesis to material sciences. The applications of [2.2]paracyclophanes in asymmetric organocatalysis are described in the second part of the review. While historically enantiopure pCps have been mainly employed by organic chemists as chiral ligands in transition-metal catalysis, these compounds can also be used as efficient catalysts in metal-free reactions and may inspire the development of new transformations in the near future.

Abstract
Designing artificial light harvesting systems with the ability to utilize the output energy for fruitful application in aqueous medium is an intriguing topic for the development of clean and sustainable energy. We report here facile synthesis of three prismatic molecular cages as imminent supramolecular optoelectronic materials via two-component coordination-driven self-assembly of a new tetra-imidazole donor (L) in combination with 180°/120° di-platinum(ii) acceptors. Self-assembly of 180° trans-Pt(ii) acceptors A1 and A2 with L leads to the formation of cages Pt4 L 2(1a) and Pt8 L 2(2a) respectively, while 120°-Pt(ii) acceptor A3 with L gives the Pt8 L 2(3a) metallacage. PF6 - analogues (1b, 2b and 3b) of the metallacages possess a high molar extinction coefficient and large Stokes shift. 1b-3b are weakly emissive in dilute solution but showed aggregation induced emission (AIE) in a water/MeCN mixture as well as in the solid state. AIE active 2b and 3b in aqueous (90% water/MeCN mixture) medium act as donors for fabricating artificial light harvesting systems via Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) with organic dye rhodamine-B (RhB) with high energy efficiency and good antenna effect. The metallacages 2b and 3b represent an interesting platform to fabricate new generation supramolecular aqueous light harvesting systems with high antenna effect. Finally, the harvested energy of the LHSs (2b + RhB) and (3b + RhB) was utilized successfully for efficient visible light induced photo-oxidative cross coupling cyclization of N,N-dimethylaniline (4) with a series of N-alkyl/aryl maleimides (5) in aqueous acetonitrile with dramatic enhancement in yields compared to the reactions with RhB or cages alone.

Abstract
Five ligands with either nitrile or isonitrile metal binding motifs have been synthesized based on the 2,8- or 3,9-disubstituted Tröger's base scaffold, respectively. These ligands self-assemble into dinuclear cyclic metallosupramolecular aggregates upon coordination to [(dppp)Pd(OTf)2 ] in a highly diastereoselective manner, by heterochiral self-sorting in a chiral self-discriminating manner as shown by ESI mass spectrometry, NMR spectroscopy, and single crystal XRD analysis. This observation is in contrast to earlier studies with ligands derived from Tröger's base that have larger metal binding motifs and bis(nitrile) and bis(isonitrile) ligands based on other rigid dissymmetric cores such as [2.2]paracyclophanes. Thus, the combination of these slim metal binding motifs with the rigid v-shaped 2,8- or 3,9-disubstituted Tröger's base scaffolds seems to be especially well preorganized to ensure high-fidelity social self-sorting behavior.

Abstract
Two isostructural ligands with either nitrile (Lnit) or isonitrile (Liso) moieties directly connected to a [2.2]paracyclophane backbone with pseudo‐meta substitution pattern have been synthesized. The ligand itself (Lnit) or its precursors (Liso) were resolved by HPLC on a chiral stationary phase and the absolute configuration of the isolated enantiomers was assigned by XRD analysis and/or by comparison of quantum‐chemical simulated and experimental electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. Surprisingly, the resulting metallosupramolecular aggregates formed in solution upon coordination of [(dppp)Pd(OTf)2] differ in their composition: whereas Lnit forms dinuclear complexes, Liso exclusively forms trinuclear ones. Furthermore, they also differ in their chiral self‐sorting behavior as (rac)‐Liso undergoes exclusive social self‐sorting leading to a heterochiral assembly, whereas (rac)‐Liso shows a twofold preference for the formation of homochiral complexes in a narcissistic self‐sorting manner as proven by ESI mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy. Interestingly, upon crystallization, these discrete aggregates undergo structural transformation to coordination polymers, as evidenced by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction.

Abstract
The gas-phase fragmentation behavior of self-assembled metallo-supramolecular rhombs based on an unusual chiral [2.2]paracyclophane bis(pyridine) ligand is studied by collision-induced dissociation mass spectrometry. The fragmentation patterns strongly depend on the charge state of the respective mass-selected aggregate. For the doubly charged ions, simple symmetric fragmentation is observed in full accordance with previous results reported for related metallo-supramolecular species. The triply charged species cleaves unsymmetrically which can be rationalized by a preferred formation of ions with low charge density. CID of the quadruply charged rhomb reveals a complex fragmentation. Besides ligand oxidation to the radical cation, facile cleavage of the central covalently bound part of the [2.2]paracyclophane ligand takes place which is even preferred over rupture of the weak dative pyridine-Pd bond.

Abstract
An enantiomerically pure diamine based on the 4,15-difunctionalized [2.2]paracyclophane scaffold and 2-formylpyridine self-assemble into an optically pure cyclic metallosupramolecular Fe4 L6 helicate upon mixing with iron(II) ions in a diastereoselective subcomponent self-assembly process. The cyclic assembly results from steric strain that prevents the formation of a smaller linear dinuclear triple-stranded helicate, and hence, leads to the larger strain-free assembly that fulfils the maximum occupancy rule. Interestingly, use of the racemic diamine also leads to a racemic mixture of the homochiral cyclic helicates as the major product in a highly diastereoselective narcissistic chiral self-sorting manner given the fact that the assembly contains ten stereogenic elements, which can in principle give rise to 149 different diastereomers. The metallosupramolecular aggregates could be characterized by NMR, UV/Vis and CD spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and X-ray crystallography.
