Abstract
Herein we report the crystal structures of two benzodiazepines obtained by reacting N,N'-(4,5-diamino-1,2-phenylene)bis(4-methylbenzenesulfonamide) (1) or 4,5-(4-methylbenzenesulfonamido)benzene-1,2-diaminium dichloride (1·2HCl) with acetone, giving 2,2,4-trimethyl-8,9-bis(4-methylbenzenesulfonamido)-2,3-dihydro-5H-1,5-benzodiazepine, C26H30N4O4S2 (2), and 2,2,4-trimethyl-8,9-bis(4-methylbenzenesulfonamido)-2,3-dihydro-5H-1,5-benzodiazepin-1-ium chloride 0.3-hydrate, C26H31N4O4S2+·Cl-·0.3H2O (3). Compounds 2 and 3 were first obtained in attempts to recrystallize 1 and 1·2HCl using acetone as solvent. This solvent reacted with the vicinal diamines present in the molecular structures, forming a 5H-1,5-benzodiazepine ring. In the crystal structure of 2, the seven-membered ring of benzodiazepine adopts a boat-like conformation, while upon protonation, observed in the crystal structure of 3, it adopts an envelope-like conformation. In both crystalline compounds, the tosylamide N atoms are not in resonance with the arene ring, mainly due to hydrogen bonds and steric hindrance caused by the large vicinal groups in the aromatic ring. At a supramolecular level, the crystal structure is maintained by a combination of hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions. In 2, amine-to-tosyl N-H...O and amide-to-imine N-H...N hydrogen bonds can be observed. In contrast, in 3, the chloride counter-ion and water molecule result in most of the hydrogen bonds being of the amide-to-chloride and ammonium-to-chloride N-H...Cl types, while the amine interacts with the tosyl group, as seen in 2. In conclusion, we report the synthesis of 1, 1·2HCl and 2, as well as their chemical characterization. For 2, two synthetic methods are described, i.e. solvent-mediated crystallization and synthesis via a more efficient and cleaner route as a polycrystalline material. Salt 3 was only obtained as presented, with only a few crystals being formed.

Abstract
The behavior of coordination polymers (CPs) against external stimuli has witnessed remarkable attention, especially when the resulting CPs present reversible molecular arrays. Accordingly, CPs with these characteristics can lead to differences in their properties owing to these structural differences, being promising for their use as potential molecular switches with diverse applications. Herein, we have synthesized four Zn(II) CPs bearing α-acetamidocinnamic acid (HACA) and 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy). The reaction between Zn(OAc)2·2H2O, HACA, and 4,4'-bipy yields {[Zn(ACA)2(4,4'-bipy)]·EtOH} n (1), which was used for the formation of three CPs through dissolution-recrystallization structural transformations (DRSTs): {[Zn(ACA)2(4,4'-bipy)]·2MeOH} n (2), {[Zn2(μ-ACA)2(ACA)2(4,4'-bipy)]·2H2O} n (3), and {[Zn3(μ-ACA)6(4,4'-bipy)]·0.75CHCl3} n (4). The study of the four crystal structures revealed that their secondary building units (SBUs) comprise monomeric, dimeric, and trimeric arrangements linked by 4,4'-bipy ligands. The fundamental role of the utilized solvent and/or temperature, as well as their effect on the orientation of the amide moieties driving the formation of the different SBUs is discussed. Furthermore, the reversibility and interconversion between the four CPs have been assayed. Finally, their solid-state photoluminescence has evinced that the effect of the amide moieties not only predetermine a different SBU but also lead to a different emission in 4 compared with 1-3.

Abstract
Inspired by the catalytic potential of lanthanide coordination polymers of 3,3',5,5'-azobenzenetetracarboxylic acid (H4abtc), two new isostructural [Ln2III(Habtc)2(DMSO)4]·DMSO·H2O (LnIII = SmIII (I), EuIII = (II), DMSO = dimethyl sulfoxide) were synthesized and characterized. Their single-crystal structures were elucidated and described. Structural transformations of II in the solid state prompted by ligand substitution and thermal treatment were studied, from which genuine reversible transformation of II to [EuIII(Habtc)(H2O)4]·3H2O (II') and [EuIII(Habtc)(H2O)2]·2H2O (II″) was revealed. This illustrates the rare case of reversible transformation in lanthanide coordination polymers. The transformation between II' and II″ was also investigated. Structural transformations among these frameworks are discussed with regard to the coordination environment of EuIII, coordination modes of Habtc3-, and similarities and disparities in framework architecture and registration. In addition, the catalytic performance of II with and without the prior activation in CO2 cycloaddition reaction with epichlorohydrin was studied in comparison with II' and II″. The excellent performance of II disregarding the activation process has been demonstrated with the maximum turnover number and turnover frequency of 7682 and 1921 h-1, respectively, for the activated II and 7142 and 1786 h-1, respectively, for the nonactivated II. The maintenance of the catalytic efficiency over 10 cycles of the catalysis and the regeneration process is illustrated and discussed with respect to structural transformation.

Abstract
Vapor-triggered crystal-to-crystal transformation between a discrete trinuclear complex [Ni3(sih)2(py)8] and a two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymer [Ni3(sih)2(py)2]n·2DMF·2H2O was demonstrated. It provides an example of a solid-state coordination-induced spin state switch behavior attributed to the structural phase transition triggered by solvent signal. The reversible nature can be detected by both optical (spectral) and magnetic responses in cycles.

Abstract
In the last twenty years, research activity around the environmental applications of metal–organic frameworks has bloomed due to their CO2 capture ability, tunable properties, porosity, and well-defined crystalline structure. Thus, hundreds of MOFs have been developed. However, the impact of their production on the environment has not been investigated as thoroughly as their potential applications. In this work, the environmental performance of various synthetic routes of MOF nanoparticles, in particular ZIF-8, is assessed through a life cycle assessment. For this purpose, five representative synthesis routes were considered, and synthesis data were obtained based on available literature. The synthesis included different solvents (de-ionized water, methanol, dimethylformamide) as well as different synthetic steps (i.e., hours of drying, stirring, precursor). The findings revealed that the main environmental weak points identified during production were: (a) the use of dimethylformamide (DMF) and methanol (MeOH) as substances impacting environmental sustainability, which accounted for more than 85% of the overall environmental impacts in those synthetic routes where they were utilized as solvents and as cleaning agents at the same time; (b) the electricity consumption, especially due to the Greek energy mix which is fossil-fuel dependent, and accounted for up to 13% of the overall environmental impacts in some synthetic routes. Nonetheless, for the optimization of the impacts provided by the energy use, suggestions are made based on the use of alternative, cleaner renewable energy sources, which (for the case of wind energy) will decrease the impacts by up to 2%.
