Abstract
We report the luminescence-based detection of Group-1 carcinogen formaldehyde (FA) and Cr(VI)-oxoanions with a mesoporous Mn(II)-MOF (1), featuring a uninodal 4-c net topology and linear 1D square channels forming a polymeric 2D network. The Mn-MOF i.e., [Mn(phen)(hia)(H2O)]∞ was solvothermally constructed using π-conjugated, chelating phenanthroline (phen) and µ3-η2:η1 binding 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid (hia) ligands. The 2D rod-like crystallites of 1 demonstrated excellent phase purity, high thermal and photostability, and robustness under harsh conditions. The SCXRD and XPS studies established the structural framework and elemental composition, while the Hirshfeld surface analysis and NCI-RDG plot confirmed the presence of π-π stacking and weak interactions in 1. We explored the bright-blue emission of 1 for recyclable and fast-responsive (∼70 s) 'turn-off' detection of FA, with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 8.49 µM. Based on this, a 04-input-03-output molecular logic gate was proposed, which can be useful as a molecular switch for future applications. Furthermore, a unique experimental setup using the MOF film demonstrated ∼57% quenching upon exposure to FA vapor (an indoor VOC). Additionally, 1 exemplified itself as an efficient probe towards Cr(VI)-oxyanions, depicting LODs of 79 and 170 ppb, Stern-Volmer constants (KSV) of 16.13 × 104 and 12.73 × 104 M-1, and response times of ∼48 and ∼40 s for CrO42- and Cr2O72-, respectively. DFT calculations and specific wet-chemical investigations elucidated the FA detection to be triggered by photo-induced electron transfer (PET), while the Cr(VI)-sensing involved a combination of PET, the inner-filter effect (IFE), resonance energy transfer (RET), and electrostatic H-bonding interactions. The FA detection was validated using food samples (fish and meat) and wastewater specimens, achieving excellent recovery rates of ∼92-95%. Furthermore, the MOF's efficacy in recognizing the Cr(VI)-species in complex matrices (coal mine wastewater, sewage, and tap water) was investigated to yield high KSV values (3.10-5.17 × 104 and 2.16-7.03 × 104 M-1 for CrO42- and Cr2O72-), which demonstrated the probe's consistency and reliability.

Abstract
In this study, we have developed ligand-sensitized Ln3+-doped nanocrystals (NCs) for the selective sensing of Cr2O7 2- and MnO4 - ions in nanomolar concentrations. This is accomplished with the gallic acid capped-CaF2:Tb3+ NCs. These NCs display bright green emission through an efficient energy transfer from surface functionalized gallic acid molecules to Tb3+ ions upon UV light excitation. The luminescence from Tb3+ ions are selectively quenched by the addition of Cr2O7 2- and MnO4 - anions. The reduction in the luminescence intensity is found to be quite selective, as the addition of other strong oxidizing species (I-, F-, Br-, Cl-, PO3 2-, SO4 2-, VO3 -, WO4 2-, IO3 -, ClO4 -,) had minimal impact on the luminescence intensity of Tb3+ ions. The calculated limit of detection from the experimental results (for the 3σ/slope criterion) is 77 nM and 55 nM for K2Cr2O7 and KMnO4, respectively. The findings show that tuning the resonance energy transfer (RET) between analytes and Tb3+ inside the NCs serves as a tool for the detection of dichromate and permanganate ions selectively.

Abstract
The solvothermal synthesis of LnCl3.nH2O with terephthalic acid (benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid, H2BDC) produced metal-organic frameworks (LnBDC), [Ln2(BDC)3(H2O)4]∞, where Ln = Sm, Eu, Tb, and Dy. The materials obtained were characterized by a number of physico-chemical techniques. The influence of the ionic radius of the lanthanides on the microstructural characteristics of the Ln-MOFs was evaluated by performing Rietveld refinement. The MOFs obtained were tested as fluorescent sensors for numerous cations and anions in water. The highly luminescent EuBDC and TbBDC demonstrated multi-responsive luminescence sensing functions to detect Ag(I), Fe(III), Cr(III), and Cr(VI), which are essential for their environmental applications. By applying the non-linear Stern-Volmer equation, the fluorescent quenching mechanism was determined. The stability of the obtained materials in water in a wide pH range (acidity pH = 4 and alkalinity pH = 9 solutions) was confirmed.

Abstract
Heavy metal contamination has sparked widespread concern among the populace. The significant issues necessitate the creation of high-performance fluorescent pigments that can identify harmful elements in water. The present study deals with metal organic framework [MOF] based on nickel [Ni-BDC MOF]. The Ni-BDC MOF was prepared by facile solvothermal method using nickel nitrate hexahydrate and terephthalic acid ligand as precursors. The MOF was characterized by various techniques in order to examine the crystal, morphological, structural, composition, thermal and optical properties. The detailed characterizations revealed that the synthesized Ni-BDC MOF are well-crystalline with high purity and possessing 3D rhombohedral microcrystals with rough surface. The MOF demonstrate good luminescence performance and excellent water stability. According to the Stern Volmer plot, the tests set up under optimized conditions demonstrate a linear correlation between the fluorescence intensity and concentration of both ions, i.e. Fe3+, and Cr2O72- ions. The linear range and detection limit for Fe3+ and Cr2O72- were found to be 0-1.4 nM and 0.159 nM, and 0-1 nM and 0.120 nM, respectively. The mechanisms for the selective detection of cations and anions were also explored. The recyclability for the prepared MOF was checked up to five cycles which showed excellent stability with just a slight reduction in efficiency. The constructed sensor was also used to assess the presence of Fe3+ and Cr2O72- ions in actual water samples. The results of the different experiments revealed that the prepared MOF is a good material for detecting Fe3+ and Cr2O72- ions.

Abstract
Adsorptive desulfurization over metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) remains a challenge in maintaining good performance in the presence of water. Herein, multimetallic Fe/Ni/Cu/Zn-(MIL-88B)-on-(MOF-5) is first achieved through phase-competition-driven growth technology. The adsorption performance of thiophene (Th), benzothiophene (BT), and dibenzothiophene (DBT) in model fuels is systematically investigated at mild temperature and follows the order Fe/Ni/Cu/Zn-(MIL-88B)-on-(MOF-5) > MOF-5 > MIL-88B. Excellent adsorptive activity is mainly ascribed to the associative effects of multimetal active sites, suitable pore sizes and shapes, acid-base interactions, and complexation. Meanwhile, MIL-88B exhibits a "brick-wall" effect and effectively enhances the water stability of Fe/Ni/Cu/Zn-(MIL-88B)-on-(MOF-5) more than does MOF-5. Fe/Ni/Cu/Zn-(MIL-88B)-on-(MOF-5) exhibits superior stability even after being immersed in water for 5 days, maintaining 77, 77, and 81% of the initial DBT, BT, and Th uptake capacities. After five periods of regeneration, more than 90% of the desulfurization capacity of Fe/Ni/Cu/Zn-(MIL-88B)-on-(MOF-5) was recovered. This work provides a new strategy for the synthesis of desirable MOF-on-MOF, promoting its potential application to adsorption desulfurization.

Abstract
This study demonstrates that a luminescent Tb3+ complex with green emission can be complexed with hyaluronic (hya) to form nanoparticles. The structure of complexation is composed of a Tb(acac)2phen core with a hya surface, similar to those of the nano-poached eggs. What makes the structure unique is that Tb(acac)2phen and hya are connected by chemical bonds. To confirm their utility, we illustrate that the luminescence is rapidly and selectively quenched in the presence of Fe3+. Initial cytotoxicity experiments with human liver carcinoma cells show that the luminescent lanthanide complexes are cytotoxic, however, complexing lanthanides to hya renders them cytocompatible. The new complex integrates the advantages of superior lanthanide luminescence, the unique shape of nano-poached eggs, compatibility with aqueous systems, and cytocompatibility. Tb3+-induced hyaluronic nano-poached eggs (THNE) can, therefore, be used for Fe3+ detection in aqueous systems. The original Tb3+-induced hyaluronic nano-poached eggs (THNE) integrates the advantages of superior lanthanide luminescence, the unique shape of nano-poached eggs, and non-toxicity, for the sensing of Fe3+ in aqueous surroundings.![]()

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) activities exhibit potential applications in the fields of energy and biomedical technology. However, the controllable synthesis of MOFs in the varied particle sizes not only affects their AIE activities, but also restricts their application scenarios. In this work, the varied particle sizes of Eu-MOFs are synthesized by adjusting the synthesis process parameters, and their variation rules combining the single factor analysis method with machine learning technology are studied. Based on the R2 score, the gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) regression model (0.9535) is employed to calculate the weight and correlation between different synthesis process parameters and it is shown that all these parameters have synergic effects on the particle sizes of Eu-MOFs, and the Eu-precursors concentration dominates in their synthesis process. Furthermore, it is indicated that the large size of Eu-MOFs and strong structural stability contribute to their high AIE activities. Finally, a screen-printed pattern is fabricated using the sample of "120-0.3-6," and this pattern exhibits a bright red fluorescence under the UV light. More importantly, this kind of Eu-MOFs can also be used to identify varied ions (Fe3+ , F- , I- , SO42- , CO32- , and PO43- ) and citric acid.

Abstract
Manifestation of photophysical signalling parameters in rhodamine derivatives exhibiting complexation induced spiro-ring opening is crucial for the realization of selective metal ion detection at trace levels. Substitution of various functional groups, such as alkylation to the core architecture, modulates the physico-chemical properties of such molecular probes. Despite a few studies, relationships between the extent of photophysical signal modulations and the chain lengths of n-alkyl substituents are still elusive. In this investigation, a few molecular probes based on the rhodamine B (1-5) and rhodamine 6G (6-10) platform were synthesized by their derivatization with n-alkyl substituents of varying chain lengths at the amino-donor of their spiro-ring end, which exhibited Fe(III)-selective absorption and fluorescence 'off-on' signal transduction along with colorization of solution. The Fe(III)-selectivity in these probes remained the same despite their structural distinctions through varied n-alkyl chain lengths of the substituents; however, the quantifiable signalling parameters such as spectroscopic enhancement factors, sensitivity, the kinetics of spiro-ring opening and effectiveness of probe-Fe(III) interactions were analyzed. These parameters were also correlated in terms of the influence of different chain lengths of n-alkyl substituents that efficiently contributed to their inter-componential interactive stereo-electronic environment.

Abstract
Due to remarkable fluorescence characteristics, lanthanide coordination polymers (CP) have been widely employed in fluorescence detection, but it is rarely reported that they act as multifunctional luminescent probes dedicated to detecting malachite green (MG) and various metal ions. A europium-based CP fluorescent probe, Eu(PDCA)2(H2O)6 (PDCA = 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid), has been synthesized and exhibited excellent recognition ability for malachite green and metal cations (Cr3+, Fe3+ and Cu2+) among 11 metal cations, 13 anions and six other compounds. The recognition was achieved by fluorescence quenching when MG, Cr3+, Fe3+ and Cu2+ were added to a suspension of Eu(PDCA)2(H2O)6 respectively. Eu(PDCA)2(H2O)6 is a multifunctional luminescent probe, and displayed high quenching efficiencies K sv (2.10 × 106 M-1 for MG; 1.46 × 105 M-1 for Cr3+; 7.26 × 105 M-1 for Fe3+; 3.64 × 105 M-1 for Cu2+), and low detection limits (MG: 0.039 μM; Cr3+: 0.539 μM; Fe3+: 0.490 μM; Cu2+: 0.654 μM), presenting excellent selectivity and sensitivity, especially for MG. In addition, Eu(PDCA)2(H2O)6 was also made into fluorescent test strips, which can rapidly and effectively examine trace amounts of MG, Cr3+, Fe3+ and Cu2+ in aqueous solutions. This work provides a new perspective for detecting malachite green in fish ponds and heavy metal ions in waste water.
