Pretreatment by recyclable Fe3O4@Mg/Al-CO3-LDH magnetic nano-adsorbent to dephosphorize for the determination of trace F- and Cl- in phosphorus-rich solutions

Synthesis and characterization of new biocatalyst based on LDH functionalized with l-asparagine amino acid for the synthesis of tri-substituted derivatives of 2, 4, 5-(H1)-imidazoles

In this study, a new and recyclable biocatalyst (MgAl CO3-LDH@Asn) was synthesized by immobilizing l-asparagine amino acid (Asn) on the surface of 3-(chloropropyl)-trimethoxysilane modified MgAl CO3-layered double hydroxide (LDH). The physicochemical properties of the samples were identified by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) techniques. The MgAl CO3-LDH@Asn was employed in the multi-component assembly process for the synthesis of tri-substituted derivatives of 2,4,5-(H1)-imidazoles from benzyl, various benzaldehyde derivatives, and ammonium acetate. For optimizing the reaction, the main factors, including the amount of MgAl CO3-LDH@Asn, type of solvent, reaction time, and temperature were evaluated. The optimum conditions of the model reaction were achieved using 20 mg of MgAl CO3-LDH@Asn biocatalyst in ethanol solvent after 20 min at reflux temperature. According to the findings above, the results indicated that high-yield products are achieved within a short time frame. Moreover, the high catalytic activity of the MgAl CO3-LDH@Asn was maintained for four cycles without significantly diminishing its performance.

Flame-Retardant PEDOT:PSS/LDHs/Leather Flexible Strain Sensor for Human Motion Detection

Flexible piezoresistive sensors have demonstrated great potential in human-motion-detection applications. However, it still remains a challenge to fabricate strain sensors with high sensitivity, broad sensing range and good linear response to strain. In this report, a simple and scalable fabrication strategy is developed to construct high performance strain sensors by using leather as the substrates to filtrate poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene ): : poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) modified layered double hydroxides (LDHs) suspensions. The naturally aligned collagen fibers in leather enable size selection for the 2-D conductive materials and as such dual-conductive pathways are effectively formed on the surface and in the matrix of leather. Due to the unique design of conductive networks, the prepared sensor possesses high gauge factor (maximum value of 2326.84), tunable strain range (0∼70%), fast tensile response time (160 ms), and good stability in 1000 stretching-relaxing/compression-relaxing cycles, making it suitable for various human motion detections including coughing and large-scale motions of joint bending. In addition, the incorporated LDHs is a non-toxic flame retardant, which is helpful to reduce electronic fire risk and can bring added value to the sensor. This article is protected by copyright. Effect of Preparation Methods on the Adsorption of Glyphosate by Calcined Ca-Al Hydrotalcite

Calcined Ca-Al hydrotalcites were prepared by the clean method (Ca-LDO-1) and traditional co-precipitation method (Ca-LDO-2), respectively. The effect of the preparation method on the adsorption of glyphosate by calcined Ca-Al hydrotalcites was investigated. The adsorbents were also characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), and low-temperature N2 adsorption-desorption, respectively. Compared with Ca-LDO-2, Ca-LDO-1 had higher specific surface area and pore volume, which caused it to show better adsorption performance and reusability for the adsorbing of glyphosate. In addition, the kinetics and thermodynamics of the adsorption of glyphosate by Ca-LDO-1 were studied. The results showed that it was more consistent with the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation and Langmuir isotherm equation.
