Abstract
Chiral CF3-substituted β-hydroxy ketones and 1,3-diols were prepared via the ketoreductase-catalyzed asymmetric reduction of the corresponding benzoyl trifluoroacetones. The variants of two ketoreductases, LfSDR1 and CgKR1, were screened or engineered for stereocomplementary synthesis of CF3-substituted β-hydroxy ketones with up to >99% conversions and up to >99% enantiomeric excess (ee) values. In addition, the cascade reduction or one pot reduction of diketones could afford the CF3-substituted 1,3-diols with up to >99% ratios and >99% ee values.

Abstract
Chiral trifluoromethyl alcohol groups were introduced at the hindered ortho positions of 9,10-diphenylanthracenes to investigate their effects on the physical properties and reactivity towards oxidative dearomatization. In such compact structures, the position in different quadrants and the preferred orientation of the -CH(OH)CF3 groups were determined by the relative and absolute configurations of each stereoisomer, respectively. As a consequence, the stereochemistry governs the organization of the H-bonded molecules in single crystals (homochiral dimers vs ribbon), whereas in chlorinated solvents, they all behave as discrete compounds. Concerning their reactivity, the stereospecific dearomative oxidation of these molecules leads to 9,10-bis-spiro-isobenzofuran-anthracenes, when using organic single-electron transfer oxidants. The chiroptical properties of the alcohols and the corresponding dearomatized products were compared and showed an important modulation of the intensity.

Abstract
A photochemically induced nickel-catalyzed radical cross-coupling of phthalimido trifluoroethanol with aryl bromides to furnish α-aryl-α-trifluoromethyl alcohols is reported. This reaction proceeds via a photoinduced charge transfer of an electron donor-acceptor complex between Hantzsch ester and phthalimido trifluoroethanol, followed by 1,2-hydrogen atom transfer, to generate the α-hydroxytrifluoroethyl radical for the cross-coupling of aryl bromides. No exogenous photocatalysts or stoichiometric metal reductants are required in this mild and operationally simple protocol. Broad substrate compatibility and excellent functional group tolerance are observed.

Abstract
Herein, we report an efficient kinetic resolution of alkyl allylic alcohols enabled by an iridium-catalyzed enantioselective alkynylation of alkyl allylic alcohols with potassium alkynyltrifluoroborates. A wide range of chiral 1,4-enynes bearing various functional groups and unreacted enantioenriched allylic alcohols were obtained with excellent enantioselectivities and high kinetic resolution performance (s-factor up to 922). Additionally, this method is particularly effective for preparing some useful optically pure alkyl allylic alcohols, such as the key components towards the synthesis of prostaglandins and naturally occurring matsutakeols, which are difficult to access via other asymmetric reactions. Mechanistic studies revealed that the efficient kinetic resolution might be due to the significant distinction of the η 2-coordination between the (R)- and (S)-allylic alcohols with the iridium/(phosphoramidite, olefin) complex.

Abstract
This review aims at providing an overview of the most significant applications of fluorine-containing ligands reported in the literature starting from 2001 until mid-2021. The ligands are classified according to the nature of the donor atoms involved. This review highlights both metal-ligand interactions and the structure-reactivity relationships resulting from the presence of the fluorine atom or fluorine-containing substituents on chiral catalysts.

Abstract
The regioselective synthetic approach to higher alkenes from lower alkenes by using sulfoxides as alkyl or aryl reagents in the Fe3+/H2O2 system has been developed. This reaction realized direct alkylation or arylation of alkenes. In this reaction, sulfoxides afforded one Csp3 or Csp2 atom to the C═C bond of alkenes; one new Csp2-Csp3 bond or Csp2-Csp2 bond was formed. Nearly 40 products including di-, tri-, and tetra-substituted products were regioselectively synthesized. Both aliphatic and aromatic alkenes could participate in this reaction. Moreover, not only dimethyl sulfoxide but also three other sulfoxides can be applied to this reaction, including diethyl, dibenzyl, and diphenyl sulfoxide. The mechanism studies showed that this reaction may experience a coupling process via radical addition-elimination and the Fe3+/H2O2 system made the sulfoxides offered one alkyl or aryl radical to the C═C bond of alkenes.

Abstract
AbstractA new library of pinane-based 1,4-amino alcohols was synthesised and utilised as chiral ligands in enantioselective diethylzinc addition to benzaldehyde. Aldol condensation of (+)-nopinone, derived from (–)-β-pinene, with 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde gave the key intermediate α,β-unsaturated ketone, which was transformed in diastereoselective reduction, followed by hydrogenation, resulting in 1,4-amino alcohols. On the other hand, epoxidation of the α,β-unsaturated ketone, followed by reduction and then hydrogenation of the pyridine ring, afforded a mixture of 4-amino-2,3-epoxy-1-ols. Stereoselective hydride reduction of the epoxy ketone and subsequent condensation of the resulting products with substituted benzyl bromides provided quaternary ammonium salts, which were subjected to hydride reduction and then hydrogenation, affording 4-amino-2,3-epoxy-1-ol derivatives containing an N-benzylpiperidine moiety. The inhibition of nucleophile-initiated opening of the oxirane ring was interpreted by a systematic series of comparative Hartree–Fock modelling study using the 6-31+G(d,p) basis set. The antiproliferative activities of 4-amino-2,3-epoxy-1-ol derivatives were examined, and structure–activity relationships were studied from the aspects of the stereochemistry of the oxirane ring, saturation, and substituent effects on the piperidine ring system.

Abstract
The synthesis of a chiral 2,2'-bipyridine-α,α'-1-adamantyl-diol ligand was achieved starting from commercially available materials. The bulky ligand was synthesized in three steps in 40% overall yield with stereoselectivities of 98% de and >99.5% ee for the S,S enantiomer. The absolute configuration of and structural insights into a heptacoordinated 2,2'-bipyridine-α,α'-1-Ad-diol/FeII chiral complex were obtained from single-crystal diffraction analyses. The newly synthesized ligand was used in iron-catalyzed asymmetric Mukaiyama aldol, thia-Michael, and Diels-Alder reactions.
