Abstract
Background Vestibular side effects such as dizziness and vertigo can be a limitation for some antibiotics commonly used to treat acne, rosacea, and other dermatology indications. Objective Unlike minocycline, which is a second-generation tetracycline, sarecycline, a narrow-spectrum third-generation tetracycline-class agent approved to treat acne vulgaris, has demonstrated low rates of vestibular-related adverse events in clinical trials. In this work, we evaluate the brain-penetrative and lipophilic attributes of sarecycline in 2 non-clinical studies and discuss potential associations with vestibular adverse events. Methods Rats received either intravenous sarecycline or minocycline (1.0 mg/kg). Blood-brain penetrance was measured at 1, 3, and 6 h postdosing. In another analysis, the lipophilicity of sarecycline, minocycline, and doxycycline was measured via octanol/water and chloroform/water distribution coefficients (logD) at pH 3.5, 5.5, and 7.4. Results Unlike minocycline, sarecycline was not detected in brain samples postdosing. In the octanol/water solvent system, sarecycline had a numerically lower lipophilicity profile than minocycline and doxycycline at pH 5.5 and 7.4. Conclusion The reduced blood-brain penetrance and lipophilicity of sarecycline compared with other tetracyclines may explain low rates of vestibular-related adverse events seen in clinical trials.

Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is an important public health issue, in terms of incidence and mortality, with approximately 1.8 million new cases reported worldwide in 2018. Advancements in understanding pathophysiological key steps in CRC tumorigenesis have led to the development of new targeted therapies such as those based on epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors (EGFR inhibitors). The cutaneous adverse reactions induced by EGFR inhibitors, particularly papulopustular rash, often require long-term antibiotic treatment with tetracycline agents (mostly minocycline and doxycycline). However, this raises several issues of concern: possible occurrence of gut dysbiosis in already vulnerable CRC patients, selection of highly antibiotic resistant and/or virulent clones, development of adverse reactions related to tetracyclines, interference of antibiotics with the response to oncologic therapy, with a negative impact on disease prognosis etc. In the context of scarce information regarding these issues and controversial opinions regarding the role of tetracyclines in patients under EGFR inhibitors, our aim was to perform a thorough literature review and discuss the main challenges raised by long-term use of tetracyclines in advanced CRC patients receiving this targeted therapy.

Abstract
Idiopathic intracranial hypertension is a syndrome that presents with headaches and visual loss. Its pathogenesis is unknown. Treatment options include acetazolamide, therapeutic lumbar punctures or permanent CSF diversion. We present the only reported case of acute drug-induced intracranial hypertension secondary to oxytetracycline requiring urgent cerebrospinal fluid diversion. The patient's rapid visual failure progressed daily despite discontinuation of the drug and required an urgent ventriculo-peritoneal (VP) shunt insertion. Patients should be counselled about the rare potential risk of developing intracranial hypertension when commencing oxytetracycline. Rapid visual failure in IIH is a neurosurgical emergency necessitating urgent ventriculoperitoneal shunt insertion.

Abstract
Minocycline is a medication commonly used for the treatment of acne vulgaris. The central nervous system-induced side effects of minocycline include headaches, pseudotumor cerebri, ataxia, and vestibular dysfunction. Many minocycline-related side effects have been presented in the literature, however, reports of depersonalization symptoms induced by the medication are rare. We present the case of a 37-year-old female diagnosed with perioral dermatitis treated with minocycline, who within 1 week suffered from severe depersonalization symptoms. The pathophysiologic mechanism of depersonalization induced by minocycline is unclear but various hypotheses include hypersensitivity of the serotonin system, drug-related metabolic encephalopathy, substance-induced temporal disintegration, and panic-disorder-related etiology. Depersonalization is a potentially severe and important side effect of minocycline that should be documented, further investigated, and recognized by clinicians.

Abstract
The existence of an association between idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) and coagulation disorders in men was assessed prospectively. Microthrombi, associated with thrombophilia-hypofibrinolysis, occlude arachnoid sinus villi, thus reducing resorption of cerebrospinal fluid, leading to IIH. Ten consecutively referred men with IIH, nine whites, one African American, median age 36 years, were 2 to 1 matched by age and race by healthy male controls. Polymerase chain reaction assays were done for four thrombophilic and one hypofibrinolytic gene mutations: G1691A factor V Leiden, G20210A prothrombin, C677T MTHFR, platelet glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (PL A1/A2), and 4G/5G polymorphism of the plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1) gene promoter. Coagulation measures in plasma included dilute Russel’s viper venom time (dRVVT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), the lupus anticoagulant, factor VIII, factor XI, plasminogen activator inhibitor activity (PAI-Fx), protein C antigenic, protein S total (antigenic), protein S free (antigenic), antithrombin III (functional), and resistance to activated protein C (RAPC). Tests performed on serum included anticardiolipin antibodies, homocysteine, and Lp(a). The body mass index was 40 kg/m2 or greater (extremely obese) in two men, 30 to 40 kg/m2(obese) in three, and was 25 to 30 kg/m2 in five (overweight). Cases differed from controls for inherited 4G4G homozygosity of the PAI-1 gene, four of 10 (40%) vs. one of 20 (5%), Fisher’s p [pf]= .031, and for high levels (>21.1 U/mL) of the hypofibrinolytic PAI-1 gene product, PAI-Fx, 5 of 10 (50%) vs. one of 18 (6%), pf = .013. Thrombophilic factor VIII was high (≥ 150%) in three of 10 (30%) cases vs. zero of 16 (0%) controls, pf=. 046. The thrombophilic lupus anticoagulant was present in two of 10 (20%) cases vs. zero of 32 (0%) controls, pf = .052. Heritable hypofibrinolysis and heritable and acquired thrombophilia appear, speculatively, to be treatable etiologies of IIH in men. Understanding contributions of hypofibrinolysis and thrombophilia to the development of IIH should facilitate development of novel new approaches to treat this often-disabling neurologic disorder.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Nanoliposomal technology is a promising drug delivery system that could be employed to improve the pharmacokinetic properties of clearance and distribution in ocular drug delivery to the retina. We developed a nanoscale version of an anionic, cholesterol-fusing liposome that can encapsulate therapeutic levels of minocycline capable of drug delivery. We demonstrate that size extrusion followed by size-exclusion chromatography can form a stable 80-nm liposome that encapsulates minocycline at a concentration of 450 ± 30 μM, which is 2% to 3% of loading material. More importantly, these nontoxic nanoliposomes can then deliver 40% of encapsulated minocycline to the retina after a subconjunctival injection in the STZ model of diabetes. Efficacy of therapeutic drug delivery was assessed via transcriptomic and proteomic biomarker panels. For both the free minocycline and encapsulated minocycline treatments, proinflammatory markers of diabetes were downregulated at both the messenger RNA and protein levels, validating the utility of biomarker panels for the assessment of ocular drug delivery vehicles. FROM THE CLINICAL EDITOR Authors developed a nano-liposome that can encapsulate minocycline for optimized intraocular drug delivery. These nontoxic nanoliposomes delivered 40% of encapsulated minocycline to the retina after a subconjunctival injection in a diabetes model.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To report an 18-month follow-up on creatine and minocycline futility study, the Neuroprotective Exploratory Trials in Parkinson Disease, Futility Study 1 (NET-PD FS-1). BACKGROUND The NET-PD FS-1 futility study on creatine and minocycline found neither agent futile in slowing down the progression of disability in Parkinson disease (PD) at 12 months using the prespecified futility threshold. An additional 6 months of follow-up aimed to assess safety and potential interactions of the study interventions with antiparkinsonian therapy. METHODS Additional 6 months of follow-up in randomized, blinded phase II trial of creatine (dosage, 10 g/d) and minocycline (dosage, 200 mg/d) in subjects with early PD. RESULTS By 18 months, symptomatic treatment of PD symptoms was required in 61% of creatine, 62% of minocycline, and 60% of placebo-treated subjects. Study treatment was prematurely discontinued in 9%, 23%, and 6% of subjects in the creatine, minocycline, and placebo arms, respectively. Creatine and minocycline did not seem to adversely influence the response to symptomatic therapy nor increase adverse events. CONCLUSIONS Data from this small, 18-month phase II trial of creatine and minocycline do not demonstrate safety concerns that would preclude a large, phase III efficacy trial, although the decreased tolerability of minocycline is a concern.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Resident's case problem. BACKGROUND In the United States, minocycline is a frequently prescribed medication for the treatment of moderate to severe acne, a common condition in adolescents. The use of minocycline has been associated with severe adverse effects that frequently comprise a musculoskeletal component, including drug-induced lupus. Physical therapists have the responsibility to identify drug reactions that mimic musculoskeletal symptoms. The patient described herein was a 15-year-old adolescent boy who had taken minocycline for 14 days. He was initially treated by his primary physician on the 15th day of minocycline therapy for symptoms of fever, joint swelling, and a rash. The patient presented to a physical therapist on the 22nd day with complaints of severe myalgia, arthralgia, and severely limited mobility secondary to pain. The patient was referred to a pediatric rheumatologist because of the systemic nature and severity of the symptoms. DIAGNOSIS The patient was subsequently diagnosed as having drug-induced lupus by a pediatric rheumatologist. The patient's myalgia and arthralgia subsided within 6 weeks, but his strength, coordination, and endurance did not reach their prior levels for 3 to 4 months. DISCUSSION Physical therapists who include a comprehensive pharmacovigilance component in their patient examination may recognize musculoskeletal symptoms that arise from a nonmusculoskeletal origin. Minocycline is commonly prescribed in the United States as an antibiotic and for treatment of acne and rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore, physical therapists should screen for minocycline use when an adolescent patient or a patient with rheumatoid arthritis presents with diffuse musculoskeletal symptoms. An automated medication monitoring system would provide physical therapists with a means of accessing current information on medication use.

Abstract
The authors hypothesized that a metformin (MET)-diet would improve symptoms of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) in women who also had polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or hyperinsulinemia without PCOS. Changes in weight, papilledema, headache, visual fields, and overall life status were prospectively assessed in response to 6 to 14 months on 2.25 g/day MET-diet or diet alone in 36 women with IIH, 23 with PCOS, selected by baseline body mass index (BMI) > or = 25, and no previous surgery for IIH. Overall life status was graded using a self-reported 1-5 scale (1 = well, normal activities; 2 = unwell, usual activities; 3 = poor, usual activities; 4 = poor, no usual activities; 5 = totally disabled). Conventional treatment for IIH was maintained unchanged during MET-diet intervention. The diet was hypocaloric (1500 calories/day), high protein (26% of calories), and low carbohydrate (44%). Of the 23 women with PCOS, 20 received MET-diet and 3 diet only (could not tolerate MET). Of the 13 women without PCOS, 7 were hyperinsulinemic and received MET-diet and 6 received diet alone. The 3 treatment groups (diet only [n = 9], PCOS-MET-diet [n = 20], and hyperinsulinemia-MET-diet [n = 7]) did not differ by median entry BMI (33.3, 37.6, and 35.7 kg/m(2)) or by duration of treatment (10.2, 11.4, and 10.9 months). Median percent weight loss was greatest in the PCOS-MET group (7.7%, P = 0.0015), was 3.3% in the diet only group, and 2.4% (P = 0.04) in the hyperinsulinemia-MET group. Papilledema significantly improved in the diet-alone group from 100% at baseline to 13% (P = 0.03), and in the PCOS-MET group from 95% to 30% (P = 0.002). If headache persisted on therapy, it was less intense-less frequent (P = 0.03) in the diet-only group and in the PCOS-MET group (P = 0.04). As many women with IIH have PCOS, and because weight loss is central to IIH treatment, diet-MET is a novel approach to treat IIH in women with concurrent PCOS or hyperinsulinemia without PCOS.

Abstract
Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is the syndrome of raised intracranial pressure without clinical, laboratory or radiological evidence of intracranial pathology. IIH is a relatively rare disease but rapidly increasing incidence is reported due to a global increasing incidence of obesity. Disease course is generally said to be self-limiting within a few months. However, some patients experience a disabling condition of chronic severe headache and visual disturbances for years that limit their capacity to work. Permanent visual defects are serious and not infrequent complications. The pathophysiology of IIH is still not fully understood. Advances in neuroimaging techniques have facilitated the exclusion of associated conditions that may mimic IIH. No causal treatment is yet known for IIH and existing treatment is symptomatic and rarely sufficient. The aim of this review is to provide an updated overview of this potentially disabling disease which may show a future escalating incidence due to obesity. Theories of pathogenesis, diagnostic criteria and treatment strategies are discussed.

Abstract
We studied thrombophilia, hypofibrinolysis, and polycystic-ovary syndrome (PCOS) in 65 women consecutively referred because of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) as a means of better understanding the origin of IIH, with the ultimate goal of developing novel medical therapies for IIH. Our hypothesis: IIH results in part from inadequate drainage of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) resulting from thrombotic obstruction to CSF resorption-outflow, favored by thrombophilia-hypofibrinolysis. We conducted the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and assessed serologic coagulation measures in 65 women (64 of them white) with IIH, PCR in 102 healthy white female controls (72 children, 30 age-matched adults), and serologic measures in the 30 adults. Of the 65 patients, 37 (57%) were found to have PCOS; 16 (43%) were obese (BMI > or = 30 to < 40), and 19 (51%) were extremely obese (BMI > or = 40). Of the 65 women with IIH, 25 (38%) were homozygous for the thrombophilic C677T MTHFR mutation, compared with 14% of controls (14/102) ( P = .0002). Thrombophilic high concentrations of factor VIII (>150%) were present in 9 of 65 (14%) IIH cases, compared with 0 of 30 controls (0%) (Fisher's p [p f ] = .053). An increased concentration of lipoprotein A (> or = 35 mg/dL), associated with hypofibrinolysis, was present in 19 of 65 IIH cases (29%), compared with 3 of 30 controls (10%) (p f = .039). IIH occurred in 18 of 65 IIH patients taking estrogen-progestin contraceptives (28%), in 6 patients taking hormone-replacement therapy (9%), and in 5 pregnant subjects (8%). We speculate that PCOS, associated with obesity and extreme obesity, is a treatable promoter of IIH. We also speculate that if thrombophilia-hypofibrinolysis and subsequent thrombosis are associated with reduced CSF resorption in the arachnoid villi of the brain, thrombophilia and hypofibrinolysis-often exacerbated by thrombophilic exogenous estrogens, pregnancy, or the paradoxical hyperestrogenemia of PCOS-are treatable promoters of IIH.

Abstract
Patients with depersonalization disorder experience episodes in which they have a feeling of detachment from themselves. Symptoms of depersonalization may occur in individuals who have other mental disorders, or who have various medical conditions, or who have taken certain medications. A woman developed depersonalization symptoms after initiation of minocycline therapy. Her symptoms ceased after treatment was stopped and recurred when she restarted the drug. Medications that have been associated with causing symptoms of depersonalization are presented and the postulated pathogenesis by which some of these drugs induced depersonalization symptoms is discussed. Medication-associated depersonalization symptoms typically resolve once the inducing drug has been withdrawn.

Abstract
A 15-year-old Caucasian boy experienced severe fever, fatigue, and a 40-lb weight loss after 2 years of minocycline therapy. A workup for infectious causes was negative. One week after minocycline discontinuation, the patient reported that his fever had resolved. Two months later, he reported full resolution of symptoms, weight gain, and a return to normal activity. An objective causality assessment indicated that his illness probably was caused by minocycline, which is considered a safe drug; however, it has been associated with rare serious adverse effects. This patient's presentation of fever was noteworthy not only because minocycline is a rare cause of drug fever, but also because of the delayed onset. Clinicians should be aware that minocycline may cause severe fever and illness even after an extended period of drug exposure.

Abstract
Antibiotics play a vital role in contemporary cutaneous medicine and surgery. They are prescribed more commonly than perhaps any other group of medications with the exception of the corticosteroids. This review discusses the major oral antibacterial agents used in dermatology today, including the beta-lactams, macrolides, tetracyclines, quinolones, sulfonamides, clindamycin, and rifampin.

Abstract
This article reviews the treatment of acne in adolescents. The choice of therapy should be principally based on the type of lesion and the severity of the acne, but psychosocial disability relating to the disease and the presence of scarring may also influence the approach to treatment.Mild acne generally requires topical treatment only. Benzoyl peroxide, azelaic acid, and antibacterials are generally used for inflammatory lesions. Topical retinoids are particularly effective for noninflamed lesions, and combination therapies are useful for mixed lesions. Moderately severe acne generally requires oral antibacterials. Tetracyclines/oxytetracycline and erythromycin are usually the first-line antibacterials. Second-generation tetracyclines, such as lymecycline, doxycycline, and minocycline, show improved absorption. Minocycline has the advantage of being rarely associated with Propionibacterium acnes antibacterial resistance, but can occasionally lead to potentially serious adverse effects. Trimethoprim is a useful third-line antibacterial therapy for patients resistant to other antibacterial therapies. Benzoyl peroxide should generally be used in combination with oral antibacterials as this has been shown to reduce the development of antibacterial resistance. For severe nodular acne, isotretinoin is the treatment of choice. In addition, over recent years dermatologists have increasingly used this drug to treat patients with moderate acne which has not responded to other systemic therapies, particularly when associated with scarring or significant psychological disability. However, this use is outside the current license of the drug. Isotretinoin is associated with a number of serious adverse effects and careful monitoring of patients during therapy is required.Physical therapies for the treatment of acne nodules and macrocomedones are also important adjuncts to drug therapies.

Abstract
To better understand potentially reversible causes of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH), also known as pseudotumor cerebri, and an apparent association of IIH with polycystic-ovary syndrome (PCOS), we assessed associations of IIH with coagulation disorders and with PCOS in 38 women with well-documented IIH. Fifteen women were found to have PCOS; 14 of them were obese, with a body-mass index (BMI) greater than 30 kg/m(2), and 10 were extremely obese (BMI > or = 40). Factor VIII concentration was high (>150%) in 9 of 38 (24%) IIH cases, compared with 0 of 40 healthy adults controls (P(f) =.0009). Familial aggregation of high concentrations of factor VIII, associated with thrombophilia, was documented in all 5 of the 9 high-level factor VIII probands' families who were sampled. Activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) was prolonged (> or =31.5 seconds) in 10 of 38 (26%) IIH cases, compared with 1 of 32 (3%) controls (P(f) =.009) and, in 4 of these cases, was accompanied by the lupus anticoagulant. Plasminogen activator inhibitor activity (PAI-Fx) was high (>21.1 U/mL) in 9 of 38 cases (24%), compared with 1 of 40 controls (3%) (P(f) =.006). Lipoprotein A was high (> or =35 mg/dL) in 13 of 37 cases (35%), compared with 5 of 40 controls (13%) (P(f) =.03). IIH cases did not differ (P >.05) from controls for homocysteine, proteins C and S, free S, antithrombin III, ACLAs IgG and IgM, dilute Russell's viper venom time, Factor XI, factor V Leiden G1691A, G20210A prothrombin, C677T MTHFR, plasminogen activator inhibitor 4G/5G, or platelet glycoprotein PL A1A2 mutations. Exogenous estrogens (n = 23), clomiphene (n = 1), or pregnancy (n = 4) accompanied the first appearance of IIH in 28 women. PCOS and coagulation disorders, often augmented by exogenous estrogens or pregnancy, are associated with IIH.

Abstract
PURPOSE Cyclines are broad-spectrum antibiotics often used in acne. Side effects might occur precociously or more insidiously during long term treatment such in acne. The aim of this study is to review all adverse effects recently reported in this indication. CURRENT KNOWLEDGE AND KEY POINTS A literature review from 1997 to 2001 has been conducted. Seventy-six articles reporting 250 cases have been found. Data analysis indicated that minocycline is the most widely incriminated molecule. Seventy-two cases revealed autoimmune disorders : lupus like syndrome associated or not with autoimmune hepatitis, 5 cases developed vasculitis. These reactions occurred in long term treatment (several weeks to several months). Fifteen cases of hypersensitivity syndromes and 3 cases of serum sickness like illness have been reported. These reactions occurred within the first weeks of exposure. Twenty-four cases of pseudotumor cerebri and 123 cases of abnormal pigmentations (skin, nails, mouth, bones or organs) have also been found. Eight cases presented other diseases. FUTURE PROSPECTS AND PROJECTS Adverse effects of cyclines might be serious and sometimes unknown. Long term treatment by tetracyclines must be researched in patients presenting such symptoms. Moreover, several adverse drug reactions might be avoided by an optimal use of the drug (oesophageal ulcerations, photosensitivity) or by shorter periods of treatment (autoimmune disorders, pigmentations); only DRESS are drug adverse reactions unpredictable and sometimes severe.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Acne vulgaris is an exceedingly common condition in adolescence and may extend into adult life in some individuals. Even though this condition is at times minimized, it has been found to have a profound impact in the quality of life of many affected individuals. Acne scarring can be even more of a source of psychological and social problems than active acne is, and when inadequately treated, the latter can lead to the former. Moderate and severe acne vulgaris usually require a regimen of systemic and/or topical medications, which are given for several months or even years and frequently require multiple visits to the physician office, the laboratory, etc. This results in loss of time at school and considerable expense. Side effects from medications and the frequent need to use alternative drugs when there is no response to medical treatment are possible. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the role of a novel medical device that uses radiofrequency as a source of energy to produce volumetric tissue heating, while sparing the epidermis, allowing for a procedure with no down time and no postoperative care required. METHODS Twenty-two patients, 10 women and 12 men, ranging in age from 16 to 28, with moderate to severe, scarring, cystic, active, acne vulgaris participated. Only nine of these patients were on concomitant medical treatment such as oral antibiotics or topical agents. All 22 patients were treated with a new nonablative radiofrequency unit, which delivers a concomitant spray of cryogen for epidermal sparing. One session was done in 20 patients and two sessions in 2 patients. The average fluence per energy delivery was 72 J/cm2. Follow-up ranged from 1 to 8 months. Patient questionnaires and active acne lesion counts were used to evaluate the response to treatment. RESULTS Excellent response was seen in 82% (n=18). Modest response was seen in 9% (n=2), and no response was seen in 9% (n=2); t-test on active lesion counts before treatment and after treatment was less than 0.009004. No side effects were identified on any of these patients. No down time from the procedure was seen. Only topical anesthesia, ELA-Max 5% (Ferndale Labs, Ferndale, MI) was used; 59% of patients were on no acne medication before, during, or after the procedure. CONCLUSIONS Nonablative radiofrequency appears to be a new safe and effective treatment alternative for moderate to severe acne vulgaris. Further research is in progress to evaluate this treatment modality in a larger number of patients.

Abstract
Several classes of medications successfully treat acne. Systemic and topical retinoids, systemic and topical antimicrobials, and systemic hormonal therapy are the major categories. Failure of therapy may result from drug interactions, antibiotic resistance, or coexisting conditions; therefore, a detailed history including these points should be used to decide which therapy is appropriate for each patient. Furthermore, one must consider the potential side effects of each treatment and make sure that (1) the benefits outweigh the risks of the treatment, (2) the side effects can be avoided by adding another agent, or (3) the side effects can be safely treated.

Abstract
We report two cases of acute pancreatitis secondary to minocycline use in adults with cystic fibrosis (CF). This minocycline complication has not previously been reported. Given the increased use of minocycline in the adult CF population to treat resistant bacteria, awareness of this potential adverse effect is imperative. As both of these individuals with CF had class IV genotypes and pancreatic sufficiency, close observation is warranted in the future to determine if persons with pancreatic-sufficient CF are at an increased risk for minocycline-induced pancreatitis.

Abstract
Minocycline is an oral antibiotic widely used for the long-term treatment of acne vulgaris. Unusual side effects of this medication include two overlapping autoimmune syndromes: drug-induced lupus and autoimmune hepatitis. In addition, in a few patients livedo reticularis or subcutaneous nodules have developed in association with arthritis and serum perinuclear antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (P-ANCA) during long-term minocycline therapy. We report the cases of two young women receiving long-term minocycline therapy (>3 years) in whom P-ANCA-positive cutaneous polyarteritis nodosa developed. Both patients presented with a violaceous reticulated pattern on the lower extremities. Histologic examination of biopsy specimens from a reticulated area and a subcutaneous nodule showed necrotizing vasculitis of medium-sized arteries in the deep dermis, consistent with the diagnosis of polyarteritis nodosa. The cutaneous lesions rapidly resolved on discontinuation of minocycline and initiation of prednisone therapy. A high index of suspicion and testing for antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody in addition to the standard antinuclear antibody panel can facilitate diagnosis of minocycline-related autoimmune disorders.
