Abstract
Silicone oil has emerged as the common option for intraocular tamponade during complicated retina vitrectomy. However, the postoperative elevation of intraocular pressure (IOP), influenced by numerous factors, remains a significant and frequently encountered complication that poses a potential threat to vision. Extensive research has been conducted to investigate the risk factors associated with elevated IOP following silicone oil tamponade, including silicone oil viscosity, preoperative high IOP, diabetes, and lens status. This comprehensive review aims to gather and summarize the current research findings regarding the risk factors contributing to IOP elevation following silicone oil tamponade, as well as the optimal management strategies for secondary glaucoma. The analysis includes the physicochemical properties of silicone oil, preoperative and intraoperative risk factors, and the effective management of secondary glaucoma. Enhancing our understanding of the primary factors associated with silicone oil-induced IOP elevation will facilitate the guidance of timely and appropriate interventions.

Abstract
Vitreous substitutes are traditionally used to stabilize the retina after vitrectomy. In recent years, various approaches have been developed for using the vitreous substitute not only as a tamponade but also as a drug release system to tackle ocular diseases. This review provides an overview of the requirements for vitreous substitutes and discusses the current clinically applied as well as novel polymer-based vitreous substitutes as drug delivery systems, including their release mechanisms, efficiencies, challenges, and future perspectives.

Abstract
During the last four decades, proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) has defied the efforts of many researchers to prevent its occurrence or development. Thus, PVR is still the major complication following retinal detachment (RD) surgery and a bottle-neck for advances in cell therapy that require intraocular surgery. In this review we tried to combine basic and clinical knowledge, as an example of translational research, providing new and practical information for clinicians. PVR was defined as the proliferation of cells after RD. This idea was used for classifying PVR and also for designing experimental models used for testing many drugs, none of which were successful in humans. We summarize current information regarding the pathogenic events that follow any RD because this information may be the key for understanding and treating the earliest stages of PVR. A major focus is made on the intraretinal changes derived mainly from retinal glial cell reactivity. These responses can lead to intraretinal PVR, an entity that has not been clearly recognized. Inflammation is one of the major components of PVR, and we describe new genetic biomarkers that have the potential to predict its development. New treatment approaches are analyzed, especially those directed towards neuroprotection, which can also be useful for preventing visual loss after any RD. We also summarize the results of different surgical techniques and clinical information that is oriented toward the identification of high risk patients. Finally, we provide some recommendations for future classification of PVR and for designing comparable protocols for testing new drugs or techniques.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The vitreoretinal interface is not merely the space between the vitreous body and the retina but it is also a site for highly complex pathologies with the vitreous body exerting an influence on all the neighbouring structures. METHODS A literature search was performed in Pubmed and current book articles RESULTS This review article highlights the role of the vitreous body in vitreomacular adhesion and traction, in the development of macular holes and epiretinal membranes as well as its role in age-related macular degeneration. In the retinal periphery the vitreous structures play a pivotal role in retinal tears and detachment as well as in diabetic and other proliferative vitreoretinopathies. The role of the vitreous bodyin the emergence of various forms of cataract is often underestimated. DISCUSSION Vitreo-etinal surgeons should thoroughly understand the pathophysiological relationship between the vitreous body and the neighboring structures, especially in the era of medical vitreolysis.
