Abstract
Frailty is a significant factor contributing to an increased risk of adverse clinical outcomes in older cancer patients. This study aims to investigate the impact of the 5-item modified frailty index (mFI) on both short-term and long-term prognosis in elderly rectal cancer patients who underwent radical resection. And, by integrating the 5-item mFI with clinicopathological characteristics, a postoperative severe complications nomogram and a cancer-specific survival (CSS) prediction nomogram were further constructed. Demographic, clinical, and therapeutic data were collected from 1,034 patients aged ≥ 70 years with rectal cancer who underwent proctectomy between 2017 and 2022. Patients were categorized into three groups based on their mFI scores: 318 patients with mFI = 0, 404 patients with mFI = 1, and 312 patients with mFI ≥ 2. Comparisons among these groups revealed that higher 5-item mFI scores were associated with an increased incidence of both overall and severe postoperative morbidity, prolonged recovery times, and elevated total medical costs. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that an mFI score of ≥ 2 [odds ratio = 2.856, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.542-5.290, P < 0.001] was an independent risk factor for severe postoperative complications. Similarly, in competing risk analysis, the 5-item mFI was identified as an independent prognostic factor for CSS (subdistribution hazard ratio = 2.00, 95% CI: 1.47-2.72, P < 0.001). The postoperative severe complications nomogram and CSS prediction nomogram AUC values were 0.726 and 0.844, respectively, both demonstrating promising predictive capabilities. In conclusion, the 5-item mFI serves as a concise and effective tool for preoperative frailty stratification and for predicting clinical outcomes in elderly rectal cancer patients.

Abstract
Ferroptosis is a regulated cell death mechanism distinct from apoptosis, autophagy, and necroptosis, marked by iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation. Since its identification in 2012, it has developed into a potential therapeutic target, especially concerning GI disorders like PC, HCC, GC, and CRC. This interest arises from the distinctive role of ferroptosis in the progression of diseases, presenting a new avenue for treatment where existing therapies fall short. Recent studies emphasize the promise of focusing on ferroptosis to fight GI cancers, showcasing its unique pathophysiological mechanisms compared to other types of cell death. By comprehending how ferroptosis aids in the onset and advancement of GI diseases, scientists aim to discover novel drug targets and treatment approaches. Investigating ferroptosis in gastrointestinal disorders reveals exciting possibilities for novel therapies, potentially revolutionizing cancer treatment and providing renewed hope for individuals affected by these tumors.

Abstract
Frailty has been linked to unfavorable postoperative outcomes in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the prevalence of frailty among CRC surgery patients and its association with mortality and postoperative complications, as evaluated by the modified frailty index (mFI), have not been thoroughly investigated and necessitate clarification. PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and CBM databases were systematically searched for relevant studies (up to January 2024), and the pooled prevalence and odds ratio (OR) estimate were calculated. A total of 16 studies containing 245 747 patients undergoing CRC surgery were included. The prevalence of frailty among CRC surgery patients was 31% (95% confidence interval [CI] = 20%-42%; I2 = 100%, p < 0.001). In patients undergoing CRC surgery, frailty was associated with a higher incidence of postoperative complications (OR = 1.94; 95% CI = 1.47-2.56; I2 = 91.9%, p < 0.001), but it did not exhibit any significant correlation with the 30-day mortality (OR = 5.17; 95% CI = 0.39-68.64; I2 = 94.4%, p < 0.001). Frailty is common in CRC surgery and exerts a significant negative impact on the postoperative outcomes. Future research could explore the potential of the mFI to facilitate a more streamlined and precise quantification of frailty, thereby establishing a refined understanding of its correlation with surgery prognosis.

Abstract
PURPOSE Prehabilitation (PH) is purported to improve patients' preoperative functional status. This systematic review and meta-analysis sought to compare short-term postoperative outcomes between patients who underwent a protocolized PH program and the existing standard of care among colorectal cancer patients awaiting surgery. METHODS A search in MEDLINE/PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Scopus, and CINAHL was conducted to identify relevant articles. Repetitive and exhaustive combinations of MeSH search terms ("prehabilitation," "colorectal cancer," "colon cancer," and "rectal cancer") were used to identify randomized and nonrandomized studies comparing PH versus standard of care for colorectal cancer patients awaiting surgery. The primary outcomes included postoperative morbidity, length of hospital stay, and readmission rates. RESULTS Seven studies including 1,042 colorectal cancer patients (PH, 382) were included. No significant differences were found in intraoperative outcomes. The postoperative complication rates were comparable between groups (Clavien-Dindo grades I and II: risk ratio, 0.82; 95% confidence interval, 0.62-1.07; P=0.15; Clavien-Dindo grades ≥III: risk ratio, 1.02; 95% confidence interval, 0.72-1.44; P=0.92). There were also no significant differences in length of hospital stay (P=0.21) or the risk of 30-day readmission (P=0.68). CONCLUSION Although PH does not appear to improve short-term postoperative outcomes following colorectal cancer surgery, the quality of evidence is impaired by the limited trials and heterogeneity. Thus, further large-scale trials are warranted to draw definitive conclusions and establish the long-term effects of PH.

Abstract
Surgery is one of the leading treatment methods of patients with primary or recurrent malignant neoplasms in the thoracic or abdominal cavity. Extensive abdominal interventions are accompanied by such adverse outcomes as blood loss, hypoxia, inflammation, blood clotting abnormality, emotional and cognitive disorders, that increases the incidence of serious complications and worsens the treatment outcome and life quality in weakened oncological patients. Multimodal pre-rehabilitation before surgery can significantly decrease the incidence and severity of postoperative complications. The rehabilitation complex includes exercise therapy, nutritional and psychological support, smoking cessation and pharmacotherapy. Currently, there are a number of questions facing rehabilitation specialists and oncologists, that are related to the determination of pre-rehabilitation optimal timing and process duration, the choice of specific physical exercises, determining the load intensity. This review presents a current view on understanding of surgical stress in extensive abdominal interventions, its effect on the oncological process course, summarizes the experience of last years in choosing pre-rehabilitation program taking into account pathogenetic mechanisms of surgical stress and individual patient's characteristics. Special attention is paid to the comparison of physical exercises' various types, their action mechanisms at different stages of pathological process, the issues of load dosing during pre-rehabilitation activities.

Abstract
Frailty is characterized by reduced physiological reserves across multiple systems. In patients with frailty, oncological surgery has been associated with a high rate of postoperative complications and worse overall survival. Further, given that cancer and frailty can co-exist in the same patient, cancer and cancer-related symptoms can rapidly accelerate the progression of baseline frailty, which we have termed "cancer frailty". This distinction is clinically meaningful because the prioritization of interventions and the treatment outcomes may differ based on health conditions. Specifically, in patients with cancer frailty, improvements in frailty may be achieved via surgical removal of tumors, while prehabilitation may be less effective, which may in turn result in delayed treatment and cancer progression. In this review, we focused on challenges in the surgical treatment of non-metastatic colorectal cancers in patients with frailty, including those related to decision making, prehabilitation, and surgery. Potential recommendations for treating patients with cancer frailty are also discussed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND FOLFIRINOX is increasingly used in the management of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). However, neoadjuvant therapy is associated with toxicity, possible disease progression, and biopsy-related and biliary complications that may preclude operative exploration. Data on the true attrition rate outside of clinical trials or resected surgical series are lacking. STUDY DESIGN Patients with nonmetastatic PDAC who initiated FOLFIRINOX from 2015 to 2020 were identified from our institution's pharmacy records. Multivariable regression and Cox proportional hazard models were used for adjusted analyses of categorical and survival outcomes, respectively. RESULTS Of 254 patients who initiated first-line neoadjuvant FOLFIRINOX, 199 (78.3%) underwent exploration, and 54 (21.3%) did not complete their chemotherapy cycles due to poor tolerability (46.3%), poor response (31.5%), or disease progression (14.8%), among other causes (7.4%). A total of 109 (42.9%) patients experienced grade 3/4 FOLFIRINOX-related toxicity, of whom 73 (28.7%) and 100 (39.4%) required an emergency department visit or inpatient admission, respectively. Finally, not undergoing surgical exploration was associated with impaired overall survival (hazard ratio 7.0; 95% CI 3.8 to 12.8; p < 0.001). Independent predictors of not undergoing exploration were remote history of chemotherapy receipt (odds ratio [OR] 0.06; p = 0.02), inability to complete FOLFIRINOX cycles (OR 0.2, p = 0.003), increase in ECOG score (OR 0.2, p < 0.001), and being single or divorced (OR 0.3, p = 0.018). CONCLUSIONS Among 254 patients with nonmetastatic PDAC initiated on FOLFIRINOX, of whom 52% were locally advanced, a total of 199 (78.3%) were explored, 142 (71.4%) underwent successful resection, and 129 (90.8%) were resected with negative margins. Despite 109 (42.9)% of patients experiencing significant toxicity, most patients could be managed through treatment-related complications to complete planned neoadjuvant chemotherapy and undergo planned surgical exploration.

Abstract
Fast track surgery (FTS), as well as ERAS (enhanced recovery after surgery/rapid recovery programs), is the latest multimodal treatment strategy, designed to reduce the disability period and improve the medical care quality. The study aims to analyze the enhanced recovery protocol effectiveness in a comparative study of elective urethral stricture surgery. A prospective study included 54 patients with an established diagnosis of urethral stricture in 2019-2020 in the urological hospital of the Irkutsk City Clinical Hospital No. 1. All 54 patients have completed the study. There were two groups of patients FTS-group (group II, n = 25) and standard group (group I, n = 29). In terms of preoperative parameters, the comparison groups have statistical homogeneity. The comparative intergroup efficacy analysis of the treatment based on the criteria established in the study demonstrated good treatment results for 5 (17.2%) patients of group I and 20 (80%) patients of group II (p=0.004). The overall efficacy of urethroplasty surgeries, regardless of the treatment protocol, was comparable (86.2% vs 92%; p=0.870), as well as the likelihood of relapse within two years (p=0.512). The predictors of recurrence were technical complications and urethral suture failure (OR 4.36; 95% CI 1.6; 7.11; p=0.002). The FTS protocol reduced the treatment period (p < 0.001) and decreased the severity of postoperative pain (p < 0.001). The use of the "fast track surgery" protocol in urethroplasty with generally similar treatment results makes it possible to achieve a better functional and objective condition of patients in the postoperative period due to less pain, shorter catheterization, and hospitalization.

Abstract
Over the past decade, neoadjuvant therapy has become the standard of care for patients with borderline resectable and locally advanced pancreatic cancer. The surgical community remains divided regarding the value of neoadjuvant therapy for patients who present with clearly resectable disease. Thus far, randomized controlled trials comparing neoadjuvant therapy with conventional upfront surgical strategies for patients with clearly resectable pancreatic cancer have been plagued by poor accrual, and are often underpowered. Nonetheless, meta-analyses of the results of these trials suggest that neoadjuvant therapy can be offered as an acceptable standard of care for patients with clearly resectable pancreatic cancer. Previous trials used neoadjuvant gemcitabine, but more recent studies have demonstrated superior survival for patients who were able to tolerate neoadjuvant FOLFIRINOX (leucovorin, 5-fluorouracil, irinotecan hydrochloride, and oxaliplatin). The increased utilization of FOLFIRINOX may be shifting the treatment paradigm in favor of neoadjuvant therapy among patients with clearly resectable disease. Randomized controlled trials assessing the value of neoadjuvant FOLFIRINOX in clearly resectable pancreatic cancer, which are expected to provide more conclusive recommendations, are still ongoing. This review outlines the rationale, considerations, and current level of evidence for the use of neoadjuvant therapy in patients with clearly resectable pancreatic cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The use of self-monitoring devices is promising for improving perioperative physical activity and nutritional intake. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to assess the feasibility, usability, and acceptability of a physical activity tracker and digital food record in persons scheduled for colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery. METHODS This observational cohort study was conducted at a large training hospital between November 2019 and November 2020. The study population consisted of persons with CRC between 18- and 75 years of age who were able to use a smartphone or tablet and scheduled for elective surgery with curative intent. Excluded were persons not proficient in Dutch or following a protein-restricted diet. Participants used an activity tracker (Fitbit Charge 3) from 4 weeks before until 6 weeks after surgery. In the week before surgery (preoperative) and the fifth week after surgery (postoperative), participants also used a food record for 1 week. They shared their experience regarding usability (system usability scale, range 0-100) and acceptability (net promoter score, range -100 to +100). RESULTS In total, 28 persons were included (n=16, 57% male, mean age 61, SD 8 years), and 27 shared their experiences. Scores regarding the activity tracker were as follows: preoperative median system usability score, 85 (IQR 73-90); net promoter score, +65; postoperative median system usability score, 78 (IQR 68-85); net promotor score, +67. The net promoter scores regarding the food record were +37 (preoperative) and-7 (postoperative). CONCLUSIONS The perioperative use of a physical activity tracker is considered feasible, usable, and acceptable by persons with CRC in this study. Preoperatively, the use of a digital food record was acceptable, and postoperatively, the acceptability decreased.

Abstract
Introduction
Prehabilitation concerns preoperative activities aimed in proper preparation to undergo a surgery and improve postoperative recovery. It includes the interdisciplinary approach by presurgical improvement of physical fitness and nourishment status, mental training and quitting addictions. The aim of the study was to investigate the recent publications in the field of prehabilitation.
Methods
We performed a systematic review in the PubMed database using the formula ‘preopreative OR before surgery, postoperative OR after surgery, prehabilitation’. The inclusion criteria were studies with a minimum population of 50 patients, including preoperative interventions, defined with a term prehabilitation, and their impact on a postoperative course of the patient. Three hundred seventy records were revealed and 13 studies were finally included in the analysis.
Results
According to qualified studies, prehabilitation improves significantly postoperative complications rate, length of hospital stay, postoperative physical activity, treatment costs, perioperative transfusions rate, antibiotic administration, and following the postoperative recommendations by patients. On the other hand, there is a lack of statistically significant impact of prehabilitation on quality of life, psychological condition, readmissions, and reoperations.
Discussion
Prehabilitation promotes development of multimodal care putting the patient’s well-being in the centre. Numerous studies indicate positive results of prehabilitation programs.
The final results depend on the protocol of prehabilitation, selected group of patients and standard of care of the center.
Conclusion
Prehabilitation is necessary for providing the highest quality of care for a surgical patient. Interdisciplinary approach benefit a patient during the operation as well as in the postoperative period. Every surgical clinic should be aware of the idea of prehabilitation and possibly create their own programs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Older adults with gastrointestinal cancers undergoing surgery often experience poor outcomes, such as prolonged postoperative hospital length of stay (LOS), intensive care unit (ICU) use, hospital readmissions, and complications. Involvement of geriatricians in the care of older adults with cancer can improve outcomes. We conducted a randomized trial of a perioperative geriatric intervention (PERI-OP) in older patients with gastrointestinal cancer undergoing surgery. METHODS From 9/2016-4/2019, we randomly assigned patients age ≥ 65 with gastrointestinal cancer planning to undergo surgical resection to receive PERI-OP or usual care. Patients assigned to PERI-OP met with a geriatrician preoperatively in the outpatient setting and postoperatively as an inpatient consultant. The primary outcome was postoperative hospital LOS. Secondary outcomes included postoperative ICU use, 90-day hospital readmission rates, and complication rates. We conducted intention-to-treat (ITT) and per-protocol (PP) analyses. RESULTS ITT analyses included 137/160 patients who underwent surgery (usual care = 68/78, intervention = 69/82). PP analyses included the 68 usual care patients and the 30/69 intervention patients who received the preoperative and postoperative intervention components. ITT analyses demonstrated no significant differences between intervention and usual care in postoperative hospital LOS (7.23 vs 8.21 days, P = 0.374), ICU use (23.2% vs 32.4%, P = 0.257), 90-day hospital readmission rates (21.7% vs 25.0%, P = 0.690), or complication rates (17.4% vs 20.6%, P = 0.668). In PP analyses, intervention patients had shorter postoperative hospital LOS (5.90 vs 8.21 days, P = 0.024), but differences in ICU use (13.3% vs 32.4%, P = 0.081), 90-day hospital readmission rates (16.7% vs 25.0%, P = 0.439), and complication rates (6.7% vs 20.6%, P = 0.137) remained non-significant. CONCLUSIONS In this randomized trial, PERI-OP did not have a significant impact on postoperative hospital LOS, ICU use, hospital readmissions, or complications. However, the subgroup who received PERI-OP as planned experienced encouraging results. Future studies of PERI-OP should include efforts, such as telehealth, to ensure the intervention is delivered as planned.

Abstract
PURPOSE The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol reduces complications and length of stay (LOS) in colon cancer, but implementation in rectal cancer is different because of neo-adjuvant therapy and surgical differences. Laparoscopic resection may further improve outcome. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of introducing ERAS on postoperative outcome after rectal cancer resection in an era of increasing laparoscopic resections. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients who underwent elective rectal cancer surgery from 2009 till 2015 were included in this observational cohort study. In 2010, ERAS was introduced and adherence to the protocol was registered. Open and laparoscopic resections were compared. With regression analysis, predictive factors for postoperative outcome and LOS were identified. RESULTS A total of 499 patients were included. The LOS decreased from 12.3 days in 2009 to 5.7 days in 2015 (p = 0.000). Surgical site infections were reduced from 24% in 2009 to 5% in 2015 (p = 0.013) and postoperative ileus from 39% in 2009 to 6% in 2015 (p = 0.000). Only postoperative ERAS items and laparoscopic surgery were associated with an improved postoperative outcome and shorter LOS. CONCLUSIONS ERAS proved to be feasible, safe, and contributed to improving short-term outcome in rectal cancer resections. The benefits of laparoscopic surgery may in part be explained by reaching better ERAS adherence rates. However, the laparoscopic approach was also associated with anastomotic leakage. Despite the potential of bias, this study provides an insight in effects of ERAS and laparoscopic surgery in a non-randomized real-time setting.

Abstract
Background There is compelling support for implementing prehabilitation to optimize perioperative risk factors and to improve postoperative outcomes. However, there is limited evidence studying the application of multimodal prehabilitation for patients with breast cancer. Objective To determine the feasibility of multimodal prehabilitation as part of the breast cancer treatment pathway. Design This was a prospective, cohort observational study. Breast cancer patients undergoing surgery were recruited. They were assigned to an intervention or control group according to patient preference. Setting UK prehabilitation center. Participants A total of 75 patients were referred during the study period. Forty eight patients (64%) did not participate; 20 of those opted to be in the control group. Twenty four patients engaged with prehabilitation and returned completed questionnaires. In total, 44 patients were included in the analysis. Interventions The program consisted of supervised exercise, nutritional advice, smoking cessation, and psychosocial support. Outcome Measures Feasibility was determined by the center's ability to deliver the program. This was measured by the number of patients who wanted to access the service, compared with those able to. Service uptake, patient satisfaction, and project costs were recorded. Patient‐reported outcomes (PROs) and the use of healthcare resources were also evaluated. Results A total of 61 patients (81%) wanted to participate; 24 (32%) were able to partake and return questionnaires. Reasons for nonparticipation included surgery within weeks, full‐time commitments, and transportation difficulties. A total of 25 (93%) prehabilitation patients recorded high satisfaction with the program. There was a significant reduction in anxiety among prehabilitation patients. There were no significant improvements in the other PROs. There were no changes to hospital length of stay, readmissions, and complications. Conclusions Multimodal prehabilitation is a feasible intervention. Logistical challenges need to be addressed to improve engagement. These results are limited and would require a larger sample to confirm the findings. Work on a thorough cost‐benefit analysis is also required.

Abstract
Background The objective of this study was to determine if there is an impact of surgical delay on 5-year overall survival (OS) from early stage colon cancer, and if so, to define how long surgery can safely be postponed. Methods Using the NCDB, we compared early (14–30 days) and delayed surgery (31–90 days) in patients with Stage I/II colon cancer. Outcomes included OS at five years and odds of death. Results Delayed resection conferred a decreased 5-year OS of 73.0% (95% CI, 72.6–73.4), compared to early resection 78.3% (95% CI, 77.9–78.8). When time to surgery was divided into one-week intervals, there was no difference in the odds of death with delay up to 35–41 days (6 weeks), but odds of death increased by 9% per week thereafter. Conclusions These data support that definitive resection for early stage colon cancer may be safely delayed up to 6 weeks.

Abstract
Quality is a term used by various specialists, from different perspectives, having as a common point to identify focuses that promote their development in institutional management. Quality processes allow us to improve assistance, reducing complication and death rates and reducing costs. Currently, the positive experience of the patient is highly valued and should be sought by all institutions. The benefits of quality procedures are extensive. There is evidence of lower complication and mortality rates, cost reduction, uniformity of care, improved communication and opportunity for health education. There is a need for financial investment by the institutions, but they can be converted in the future. The idea that these are just bureaucratic steps must be fought because individualistic attitudes are no longer part of safe medicine. The success of a quality process requires interdisciplinarity, integration with quality offices for effective communication. The implementation of feasible attitudes should be sought, with a high adherence rate to seek patient satisfaction and safety. We will address historical aspects, the requirements for the implementation of a quality program, the concepts of indicators and the aspects that influence the quality in surgery, in addition to presenting benefits that such a program can offer to the surgeon and the institution.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the impact of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on health-related outcome parameters in the prehabilitation of patients diagnosed with cancer. METHODS A systematic review and meta-analysis of comparative studies on HIIT in cancer prehabilitation conducted by screening standard databases from their inception to March 30, 2020. Outcomes of interest included cardiorespiratory fitness, feasibility, safety, clinical, and patient-reported outcomes. RESULTS Of the 855 identified studies, 8 articles met the inclusion criteria (7 randomized, 1 non-randomized controlled trial) with a total of 896 patients. The study protocols were heterogeneous, but the methodological quality ranged from good to high according to PEDro scale. Meta-analysis revealed a significant improvement of peak oxygen consumption (VO2peak) achieved with HIIT compared to usual care. Furthermore, HIIT was feasible and safe, showing low risk of adverse events and positive effects on health-related outcomes in prehabilitative settings. CONCLUSION In the phase of prehabilitation, HIIT has potential health benefits in patients diagnosed with cancer and is feasible and safe to perform. Nonetheless, larger randomized controlled trials focusing on long-term effects (such as cancer recurrence or survival rates) are missing, to underline the potential relevance of HIIT for cancer patients.

Abstract
Soft tissue sarcoma (STS) patients undergoing surgery may experience reduced functional outcome (FO) and quality of life (QoL) compared to the general population. The aim of this study was to evaluate the development of FO and QoL in patients with STS in the extremities within the first year after first-time limb-sparing surgery. Twenty-nine out of 40 eligible patients were included in the present study. QoL and FO were evaluated by questionnaires while FO was also evaluated by objective tests. Patients were assessed before surgery and at fixed time points within the first year after surgery. Patients with STS in the extremities had an average strength of 82.34% (95% CI: 68.57-96.11) of the expected strength at one year post surgery. Multivariate, repeated ANOVA showed statistically significant reductions in strength in the disease-affected extremity when compared with the healthy side after surgery. Multivariate, repeated ANOVA showed a statistically significant improvement in FO and QoL within the first year post surgery. Limb-sparing surgery for STS significantly reduced strength in the disease-affected extremity and generally reduced FO and QoL in the first months after surgery. Improvements were observed for FO and QoL at one year after surgery.

Abstract
Background and objectives To investigate the feasibility of delivering a functional exercise-based prehabilitation intervention and its effects on postoperative length of hospital stay, preoperative physical functioning and health-related quality of life in elective colorectal surgery. Materials and methods In this randomised controlled feasibility trial, 22 elective colorectal surgery patients were randomly assigned to exercise prehabilitation (n = 11) or standard care (n = 11). Feasibility of delivering the intervention was assessed based on recruitment and compliance to the intervention. Impact on postoperative length of hospital stay and complications, preoperative physical functioning (timed up and go test, five times sit to stand, stair climb test, handgrip dynamometry and 6-min walk test) and health-related quality of life were also assessed. Results Over 42% of patients (84/198) screened were deemed ineligible for prehabilitation due to insufficient time existing prior to scheduled surgery. Of those who were eligible, approximately 18% consented to the trial. Median length of hospital stay was 8 [range 6–27] and 10 [range 5–12] days respectively for the standard care and prehabilitation groups. Patterns towards preoperative improvements for the timed up and go test, stair climb test and 6-min walk test were observed for all participants receiving prehabilitation but not standard care. Conclusions Despite prehabilitation appearing to convey positive benefits on physical functioning, short surgical wait times and patient engagement represent major obstacles to implementing exercise prehabilitation programmes in colorectal cancer patients.
