Abstract
We present the results of comprehensive experimental and theoretical studies of the effect of nuclear spin statistics on the structure of rotational recurrences in femtosecond degenerate four-wave mixing (fs DFWM) spectra of asymmetric top molecules. New recurrences of J-type with a period of 1/[4(B + C)] are identified in fs DFWM spectra of near-prolate tops SO2 [H. M. Frey, P. Beaud, T. Gerber, B. Mischler, P. P. Radi and A. P. Tzannis, J. Raman Spectrosc., 2000, 31, 71] and NO2 [I. Pastirk, M. Comstock and M. Dantus, Chem. Phys. Lett., 2001, 349, 71]. Our measurements of the asymmetric oblate-like top CH3NO2 revealed new recurrences of A-type with a period of 1/(8A), A, B and C being the rotational constants. The incorporation of nuclear spin statistics into the fs DFWM simulation-fitting code allowed us to successfully reproduce all these new features and the subsequent theoretical analyses uncovered mechanisms of their appearance. The nuclear spin statistics is shown to have a profound effect on fs DFWM spectra of asymmetric top species, notably with several zero spin nuclei.

Abstract
Femtosecond Raman-induced polarization spectroscopy (RIPS) was conducted at low pressure (250 mb at 295 K and 400 mb at 373 K) in ethylene. The temporal signal, resulting from the beating between pure rotational coherences, was measured with a heterodyne detection. The temporal traces were converted to the frequency domain using a Fourier transformation and then analyzed thanks to the D2hTDS software (http://www.u-bourgogne.fr/LPUB/shTDS.html) dedicated to X2Y4 molecules with D2h symmetry. The effective Hamiltonian was expanded up to order 2, allowing the determination of five parameters with an rms of 0.017 cm(-1). Special care was taken in the precise modeling of intensities, taking into account all instrumental effects. Relative intensities were fitted (with an rms of 7.2%) and two polarizability operators were determined.

Abstract
In this paper, we report the use of femtosecond time-resolved degenerate four-wave mixing rotationally resolved spectroscopy to obtain very accurate structural information on the symmetric top cyclohexane. Apart from highlighting the versatility of this method in determining accurate structures of large and complex molecules without dipole moment, the present study also details the comparison of the experimentally determined rotational constant B(0) with that obtained from high-level ab initio calculations. The theoretical calculations, which were carried out at both the second-order Møller-Plesset (MP2) and coupled-cluster with single, double, and perturbative triple substitutions [CCSD(T)] levels of theory, also take into account vibrational averaging effects. A detailed investigation of the vibrational averaging effects reveals that the corrections emerge from only the six highly symmetric A(1g) modes, a justification of which is provided by an analysis of these modes.

Abstract
This review focuses on the study of the dynamics of isolated molecules and their control using coherent nonlinear spectroscopic methods. Emphasis is placed on topics such as bound-to-free excitation and the study of concerted elimination reactions, free-to-bound excitation and the study of bimolecular reactions, and bound-to-bound excitation and the study of intramolecular rovibrational dynamics and coherence relaxation. For each case the detailed time-resolved information reveals possible strategies to control the outcome. Experimental results are shown for each of the reactions discussed. The methods discussed include pump-probe and four-wave mixing processes such as transient grating and photon echo spectroscopy. Off-resonance transient-grating experiments are shown to be ideal for the study of ground state dynamics, molecular structure, and the molecular response to strong field excitation.
