Abstract
Previous experiments and theories have shown the existence of heavy-light-heavy (HLH) reactivity oscillation in the Cl + CH4 reaction and anticipated that similar oscillations should exist in many HLH reactions involving polyatomic reagents. However, the total reaction probabilities for the Cl + CHD3 → HCl + CD3 reaction exhibit only a step-like feature, and the total reaction probabilities for Cl + CHT3 → HCl + CT3 do not show any structure at all. Here, we report seven-dimensional state-to-state quantum dynamics studies for this reaction on the FI-NN PES, and we demonstrate that HLH reactivity oscillations also exist in these two reactions, manifesting as peaks in the reaction probabilities for low product rotational states. These oscillations, however, are obscured in the total reaction probability because of the higher excitation of j ≥ 2 product rotational states. Furthermore, the isotope replacement of nonreactive hydrogen with deuterium and tritium significantly enhances reactivity at collision energies above 0.112 eV, indicating an inverse secondary isotope effect on the probabilities, which is proved to be also caused by HLH mass combination. We also demonstrate that the highly rotational excitation of CHD3 substantially enhances reactivity and the HLH oscillations, similar to HLH triatomic reactions. These observations are completely different from those in the H + CHD3 reaction, which is also a late-barrier reaction. Therefore, the HLH mass combination is very important, which affects not only the reactivity oscillation but also the amplitude and product rotational state distribution and makes the initial rotation excitation play a pivotal role in the reaction.

Abstract
Context Saikosaponin D (SSD) is a commonly prescribed agent against inflammatory diseases in Asian countries. However, the anti-allergic inflammatory effect of SSD in allergic rhinitis (AR) model is not well known. Objective We investigated the anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effects of SSD on the ovalbumin (OVA)-induced AR model. Materials and method BALB/c mice were divided into the control, OVA, OVA + SSD, and OVA + dexamethasone (Dex) groups. AR was established by intraperitoneal injection with OVA adsorbed to aluminum hydroxide, and intranasal challenge with OVA. Thereafter, the mice were treated with 10 mg/kg BW (Body weight) of OVA + SSD and 2.5 mg/kg BW of Dex orally for 11 days before being challenged. Subsequently, the mice were challenged with OVA 1 h after SSD or Dex treatment. The Control group was treated with saline only. Results The addition of 10 mg/kg BW of OVA + SSD significantly ameliorated the nasal symptoms including sneezing and rubbing from 30 ± 5.2 times in OVA group to 20 ± 5.8 times. Moreover, OVA + SSD group decreased the production of TNF-α, IL-4, IL-5, IL-17, GATA-3 and RORγ about 1.2-1.4-fold compared to the OVA-induced AR mice near to 2.5 mg/kg BW of Dex levels. Meanwhile OVA + SSD group slightly increased the levels of INF-γ, IL-12 and T-bet about 1.8-2.0-fold compared to the OVA group near to control group. Notably, OVA + SSD group also reduced the levels of OVA-specific IgE and IgG1 about 0.5-2.5-fold compared OVA group but increased the levels of IgG2a in serum. The results were analyzed using Graph Pad Prism software (v5.0, La Jolla, CA, USA). Conclusion SSD may represent an alternative therapeutic approach for the treatment of patients with AR through the regulation of transcription factors T-bet, GATA-3, and RORγ in inflammatory cells.

Abstract
The dynamics and kinetics of nonadiabatic excitation of C(3P) to C(1D) induced by hyperthermal collisions with N2 molecules are investigated using a quantum mechanical and two semiclassical nonadiabatic methods. The full-dimensional interaction potential energy surfaces and spin-orbit coupling, which facilitates the spin-forbidden process, are represented by a recently constructed diabatic potential energy matrix. The multistate quantum dynamics for selected partial waves found small transition probabilities due to the weak spin-orbit coupling. The spin-flip transition is the most favored near the threshold due to effective curve crossing. Strong oscillations are also found in the probabilities, which are attributable to resonances supported by the deep well in the singlet-state potential. Vibrational state-specified rate coefficients are reported from J-shifted quantum dynamics calculations, and they follow the Arrhenius form. Vibrational excitation in the N2 collision partner is found to increase the excitation rate at low temperatures, but the trend is reversed at high temperatures. The two semiclassical methods qualitatively reproduce the quantum rate coefficients.

Abstract
Derivative couplings near a conical intersection and spin-orbit couplings between different spin states are known to facilitate nonadiabatic transitions in molecular systems. Here, we investigate a prototypical electronic energy transfer process, I(2P3/2) + O2(a1Δg) → I(2P1/2) + O2(X3Σg-), which is of great importance for the chemical oxygen-iodine laser. To understand the nonadiabatic dynamics, this multistate process is investigated in full dimensionality with quantum wave packets using diabatic potential energy surfaces coupled by both derivative and spin-orbit couplings, all determined from first principles. A near quantitative agreement with structural, energetic, and kinetic measurements is achieved. Detailed analyses suggest that the nonadiabatic dynamics is largely controlled by derivative coupling near conical intersections, which leads to a small effective barrier and hence a slightly positive temperature dependence of the rate coefficient. The new results should extend our understanding of energy transfer, provide a quantitative basis for numerical simulations of the chemical oxygen-iodine laser, and have important implications in other electronic energy transfer processes.

Abstract
We evaluated the accuracy of the J-shifting approximation to estimate reactant state-selected cross sections for the F+CH4 → HF+CH3 and F+CHD3 → HF+CD3/DF+CHD2 reactions. In particular, we analyzed how the rotational state of methane influences the quality of the approximation. The systems were considered in full dimensionality. Since full-quantum scattering calculations are still unfeasible for these reactions, we employed quasi-classical trajectories (QCT) to calculate the cross sections. The characteristics of the Born-Oppenheimer potential energy surface of these reactions pose a great challenge to the assumptions of the J-shifting approach. In spite of this, we found that it performs well for both reactions if the methane molecule is in the rotational ground state. However, when methane is rotationally excited, the approach affords good results for the F+CH4 system but clearly fails for F+CHD3. The reasons for this failure will be discussed, and a simple procedure to recover good estimators for the cross sections from J = 0 calculations will be introduced.

Abstract
Intersystem crossing is a common and important nonadiabatic process in molecular systems. Revealed with a first-principles investigation, the quenching of C(1D) by N2 is efficient due to multiple passages via long-lived collisional resonances, despite relatively small spin–orbit couplings.

Abstract
The hydrogen anion has never been observed in the interstellar medium, but it is most likely present in some interstellar regions. Since direct detection appears especially difficult, improving the knowledge of the astrochemical processes involving this anion should be valuable in defining a way of indirect detection. We present the first study of the radiative association of H- and CO to form the HCO- anion within a quantum time-independent approach. We use a state-of-the-art potential energy surface which has been calculated for the present study. The calculated radiative association rate coefficient is monotonically decreasing from 6 × 10-16 to 5 × 10-19 cm3 per molecule per s across the 0.01-1000 K temperature range. At the typical temperature of the cold interstellar medium, ∼10 K, the radiative association rate is ∼2 × 10-17 cm3 per molecule per s. On the other hand, the plane wave approximation is used to calculate the HCO radiative electron attachment rate coefficient. It is found to be almost constant and also equal to 2 × 10-17 cm3 per molecule per s. Setting aside the question of the abundances of the reactants of both processes, these results demonstrate that among the two gas-phase modes of production of the HCO- anion in cold interstellar medium considered in this study, the H- + CO radiative association is dominating below 10 K while the radiative electron attachment rate is larger above 10 K.

Abstract
The observed abundances of the methylidyne cation, CH(+), in diffuse molecular clouds can be two orders of magnitude higher than the prediction of the standard gas-phase models which, in turn, predict rather well the abundances of neutral CH. It is therefore necessary to investigate all the possible formation and destruction processes of CH(+) in the interstellar medium with the most abundant species H, H2, and e(-). In this work, we address the destruction process of CH(+) by hydrogen abstraction. We report a new calculation of the low temperature rate coefficients for the abstraction reaction, using accurate time-independent quantum scattering and a new high-level ab initio global potential energy surface including a realistic model of the long-range interaction between the reactants H and CH(+). The calculated thermal rate coefficient is in good agreement with the experimental data in the range 50 K-800 K. However, at lower temperatures, the experimental rate coefficient takes exceedingly small values which are not reproduced by the calculated rate coefficient. Instead, the latter rate coefficient is close to the one given by the Langevin capture model, as expected for a reaction involving an ion and a neutral species. Several recent theoretical works have reported a seemingly good agreement with the experiment below 50 K, but an analysis of these works show that they are based on potential energy surfaces with incorrect long-range behavior. The experimental results were explained by a loss of reactivity of the lowest rotational states of the reactant; however, the quantum scattering calculations show the opposite, namely, a reactivity enhancement with rotational excitation.

Abstract
In this paper, we report the results of three dimensional time dependent quantum wave packet calculations carried out for He+Li2 inelastic reaction in the collision energy range 0.43–1.18 eV. A three dimensional potential energy surface (PES) computed by Varandas was used for the dynamical calculations.1 The state to state and state to all transition probabilities for total angular momentum J = 0 have been calculated in a broad range of collision energies. Integral cross-sections and rate constants have been calculated from the wave packet transition probabilities by means of J-shifting approximation based on a capture model and a uniform J-shifting method for J > 0.

Abstract
Temperature dependence of the rate constant of the O (3 P ) + HCl → OH + Cl reaction was calculated for 200–700 K range within the quantum instanton approximation using the 3A″ potential energy surface. Curvature of the Arrhenius plot arising from quantum effects in the hydrogen exchange reaction was observed. Results of the present method were found to significantly improve upon those obtained within the ICVT/μOMT method. The errors pertaining to the present method were estimated.

Abstract
Using time-dependent quantum wave packet method, the total reaction probabilities and thermal rate constants (TRC) are calculated for the exoergic reaction N+OH on the 3A″ potential energy surface (Guadagnini R, Schatz GC, Walch SP, J Chem Phys102:774, 1995) under both coupled-state or centrifugal sudden (CS) approximation and Coriolis-coupled or close-coupling (CC) approach. As a result, the difference between CS and CC total reaction probabilities gets more prominent when the value of total angular momentum J increases. As for TRC, the calculated results are in excellent agreement with earlier experimental measurements.

Abstract
In this paper, a mixed quantum-classical semi-rigid vibrating rotor target (QC-SVRT) model has been applied to study the reaction O(3P) + CH4 → CH3 + OH based on H + CH4 potential surface of Jordan and Gilbert. In this approach, the relative translational motion between atom and polyatom molecules is treated classically while the others are treated quantum mechanically. The reaction probabilities and rate constants were carried out using the QC-SVRT approach. It was found that the QC-SVRT results are in good agreement with the quantum results and the reaction threshold is correctly produced in the present calculation. The application of this QC-SVRT approach makes it more practical to extend quantum reaction dynamics calculation to larger molecules and more complex systems without incurring significant loss of important quantum effects.

Abstract
We present variational transition state theory (VTST) calculations for the H 2 + CN → HCN + H (R1) and D 2 + CN → DCN + D (R2) reactions and their reverses based on a global many-body expansion potential energy surface (PES) for ground-state H 2 CN (ter Horst MA, Schatz GC, Harding LB, J Chem Phys105:558, 1996). It is found that the tunneling effects are negligible over the 200–2000 K temperature range and non-negligible over 100–200 K for R1 and R2 reactions. The C–N bond acts almost as a spectator for both reactions. The present VTST rate constants are in good agreement with the available experimental results and the previous theoretical predictions for R1 and R2 reactions except for the overestimation of rate constants by VTST at lower temperatures that may be caused by recrossing effect. Additionally, the kinetic isotope effects are important for the forward R1 and R2 reactions, but not for the reverses of R1 and R2.

Abstract
We report in this paper a quantum dynamics study for the reaction H+NH3-->NH2+H2 on the potential energy surface of Corchado and Espinosa-Garcia [J. Chem. Phys. 106, 4013 (1997)]. The quantum dynamics calculation employs the semirigid vibrating rotor target model [J. Z. H. Zhang, J. Chem. Phys. 111, 3929 (1999)] and time-dependent wave packet method to propagate the wave function. Initial state-specific reaction probabilities are obtained, and an energy correction scheme is employed to account for zero point energy changes for the neglected degrees of freedom in the dynamics treatment. Tunneling effect is observed in the energy dependency of reaction probability, similar to those found in H+CH4 reaction. The influence of rovibrational excitation on reaction probability and stereodynamical effect are investigated. Reaction rate constants from the initial ground state are calculated and are compared to those from the transition state theory and experimental measurement.

Abstract
Five-dimensional nonadiabatic quantum dynamics studies have been carried out on two new potential energy surfaces of S(2)((1)A(')) and T(7)((3)A(")) states for the title oxygen molecules collision with coplanar configurations, along with the spin-orbit coupling between them. The ab initio calculations are based on complete active state second-order perturbation theory with the 6-31+G(d) basis set. The calculated spin-orbit induced transition probability as a function of collision energy is found to be very small for this energy pooling reaction. The rate constant obtained from a uniform J-shifting approach is compared with the existing theoretical and experimental data, and the spin-orbit effect is also discussed in this electronic energy-transfer process.

Abstract
The initial state selected time-dependent wave packet calculations have been carried out to study the title reaction with seven degrees of freedom included by restricting the nonreacting CH(3) group under C(3V) symmetry and the CH bond length in the group. Total reaction probabilities as well as integral cross sections were calculated for the ground and four vibrationally excited reagent states. Our calculation shows that the reactivity is very small for the reaction for collision energy up to 1.0 eV for all the initial states. Initial vibration excitation of CH(4), in particular, the CH stretch excitation, enhances the reactivity, but only part of the excitation energy deposited can be used to reduce the reaction threshold. The rate constant for the ground initial state agrees rather well with that from a recent quasiclassical trajectory study and is larger than that from the semirigid vibrating rotor target calculations, in particular, in the low temperature region. On the other hand, the thermal rate constant calculated from the integral cross sections for these five vibrational states is about a factor of 20 smaller than that from the multiconfiguration time-dependent Hartree study.

Abstract
We report a dynamics study of the reaction N((2)D) + H(2) (v=0, j=0-5) --> NH + H using the time-dependent quantum wave packet method and a recently reported single-sheeted double many-body expansion potential energy surface for NH(2)(1(2)A' ') which has been modeled from accurate ab initio multireference configuration-interaction calculations. The calculated probabilities for (v=0, j=0-5) are shown to display resonance structures, a feature also visible to some extent in the calculated total cross sections for (v=0, j=0). A comparison between the calculated centrifugal-sudden and coupled-channel reaction probabilities validate the former approximation for the title system. Rate constants calculated using a uniform J-shifting scheme and averaged over a Boltzmann distribution of rotational states are shown to be in good agreement with the available experimental values. Comparisons with other theoretical results are also made.

Abstract
Three-dimensional time-dependent quantum wave packet calculation for the O((1)D)+HBr reaction has been carried out using an accurate ab initio global potential energy surface [K. A. Peterson, J. Chem. Phys. 113, 4598 (2000)]. The calculations show that the initial state-selected reaction probabilities are dominated by resonance structures, and the lifetime of the resonance is generally in the subpicosecond time scale. The energy dependence of the reaction cross section is computed, which manifests still resonance structures, and is a decreasing function of the translational energy. The thermal rate constants are also computed, which are nearly independent on the temperature. The calculation results are discussed and compared to similar reaction with deep well.

Abstract
The channel specific and initial state-selected reaction cross section and temperature-dependent rate constant for the title system is calculated with the aid of a time-dependent wave-packet approach and using the ab initio potential energy surface of Dunne et al. [Chem. Phys. Lett. 336, 1 (2001)]. All partial-wave contributions up to the total angular momentum J=74 are explicitly calculated within the coupled states (CS) approximation. Companion calculations are also carried out employing the standard as well as the uniform J-shifting (JS) approximation. The overall variation of reaction cross sections corresponds well to the behavior of a barrierless reaction. The hydrogen exchange channel yielding HLi+H products is seen to be more favored over the HLi depletion channel yielding Li+H(2) products at low and moderate collision energies. Sharp resonance features are observed in the cross-section results for the HLi depletion channel at low energies. Resonance features in the reaction cross sections average out with various partial-wave contributions, when compared to the same observed in the individual reaction probability curve. Except near the onset of the reaction, the vibrational and rotational excitation of the reagent HLi, in general, does not dramatically influence the reactivity of either channel. The thermal rate constants calculated up to 4000 K show nearly Arrhenius type behavior. The rate constant decreases with vibrational excitation of the reagent HLi, indicating that the cold HLi molecules are efficiently depleted in the reactive encounter with H at relatively low temperatures. The results obtained from the JS approximation are found to agree well qualitatively with the CS results.

Abstract
This review discusses recent quantum scattering calculations on bimolecular chemical reactions in the gas phase. This theory provides detailed and accurate predictions on the dynamics and kinetics of reactions containing three atoms. In addition, the method can now be applied to reactions involving polyatomic molecules. Results obtained with both time-independent and time-dependent quantum dynamical methods are described. The review emphasises the recent development in time-dependent wave packet theories and the applications of reduced dimensionality approaches for treating polyatomic reactions. Calculations on over 40 different reactions are described.
