Aneurysmectomy and Revascularization of Anterior Tibial Artery Aneurysm: Case Report

An 86-year-old man presented with a pulsatile mass in the anterior compartment of the right lower leg. He had become aware of it two months earlier. Computed tomography angiography revealed a fusiform 3.2×5 cm aneurysm of the anterior tibial artery. Mural thrombosis in the aneurysm was absent. Peripheral pulse was normal. We performed aneurysmectomy and revascularization using a saphenous vein graft. Histological findings revealed that the mass was a true aneurysm. The clinical course was good, and the graft has remained patent for six months.

A Rare Case of Bilateral Posterior Tibial Artery Aneurysm Presenting as Unilateral Acute Limb Ischemia

True aneurysms of the tibial arteries are extremely rare. Of the few previously described tibial artery aneurysms, there are scant reports of isolated true aneurysms of the posterior tibial artery (PTA). In this report, we describe the second documented case of bilateral true PTA aneurysms. Unique aspects of this case are that the aneurysmal PTA were the only patent tibial arteries bilaterally, the aneurysms were degenerative in nature, and initial patient presentation was due to aneurysm thrombosis causing acute foot ischemia. The clinical and radiological features of this case, as well as surgical decision making and management, are discussed.

Posterior tibial artery aneurysm: a case report with review of literature

Background

Aneurysms infra-patellar region are uncommon. Of them, true aneurysms are very rare and that of posterior tibial artery are extremely rare. The more common, pseudoaneurysms are commonly associated with trauma whereas the true ones are linked with either inflammatory or mycotic origins.

Case Presentation

We reported another case of true aneurysm of posterior tibial artery without any evident aetiology. This was repaired with resection of aneurysm followed by interposition vein graft.

Conclusion

Through this report, we discussed the rarity, review of literature and management of this unusual condition.

Nontraumatic aneurysm of a branch of the posterior tibial artery mimicking a schwannoma

Aneurysms involving the infrapopliteal arteries are unusual and in most cases result from trauma. Nontraumatic aneurysms of the infrapopliteal arteries are very rare. We report a case of an aneurysm of a branch of the posterior tibial artery. The clinical manifestations and the findings from magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography led us to make a preoperative diagnosis of schwannoma. Histologic examination of the excised specimen suggested that this lesion was likely a true aneurysm.

Anterior tibial aneurysm following inversion injury to the ankle

Arterial injuries in nonpenetrating low-energy injuries to the extremities are rare but can occur when joint injuries put the vessels in traction against their immobile attachments to the long bones. The most common injuries are to the popliteal artery (because of its tethered nature proximal to the popliteal fossa) and the brachial artery (because it is tethered to the humerus proximal to the elbow). The second reported case of an aneurysm of the anterior tibial artery resulting from an inversion injury to the ankle is described.
