Effect of organic ligands (L-Proline and L-Methionine) on growth, structural, vibrational, crystalline perfection, SHG efficiency, microscopic and optical properties of KDP single crystals

The effect of L-Proline (LP) and L-Methionine (LM) doping on the various properties of KDP single crystals grown by slow evaporation solution technique has been investigated. The external morphology of the grown crystals was found to vary due to different dopants and doping concentrations. The change in powder X-ray diffraction intensity patterns due to doping shows the lattice distortion within resolution limit and confirms that there is no extra phase. Further, the same was confirmed by FT-Raman analysis. Infra red microscopic study also exhibits the effectiveness of doping in terms of varying surface morphology. Crystalline perfection of KDP crystals with LP and LM doping was examined by high-resolution X-ray diffraction. This shows very interesting features on the ability of accommodating the dopants in the crystalline matrix. Second harmonic generation efficiency was also found to be in similar fashion as of crystalline perfection. The optical transparency of doped crystals was tested.

Analysis on structural, SHG efficiency, optical and mechanical properties of KDP single crystals influenced by Glycine doping

Good quality single crystals of potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate (KDP) were grown with different doping concentration of Glycine by conventional solution technique in aqueous solution. X-ray diffraction study has been carried out in order to see the effect of dopant on the structural parameters of KDP. There is no additional phase was observed which was further confirmed by Raman spectroscopic analysis. The second harmonic generation efficiency was measured by using Kurtz powder technique. The relative second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the grown crystals was found to be increased with doping concentration up to 2.5 mol%. Optical transmission study also revealed the same behaviour with enhancement up to 2.5 mol% concentration and later decreased but still higher than pure KDP. The mechanical strength was found to increase with increasing the doping concentration.

Effect of optical activity on electro-optic measurements in crystals of the potassium dihydrogen phosphate family

Crystals of the potassium dihydrogen phosphate family in their paraelectric phase belong to point group \overline 4 2m, which allows for natural optical activity and electric field-induced optical activity related to the linear and nonlinear electrogyration effects. This work presents a theoretical analysis of the influence of these effects on measurements of the linear, quadratic and fourth-order electro-optic coefficients. Both the polarimetric technique and a method based on Michelson interferometry are considered. A number of configurations of the light path and the electric field directions were analyzed, and it was found that the influence, when it appears, is usually negligibly small. Thus, no previously reported experimental data need a new interpretation. However, in future measurements of some effective coefficients of the quadratic electro-optic effect using the dynamic polarimetric technique, the contribution of the quadratic electrogyration may no longer be negligible after improving the resolution from 10−21to 10−22 m2 V−2. This work also shows that the quadratic electrogyration described by the β31coefficient may be decoupled from the linear and quadratic electro-optic effects in measurements performed by the polarimetric method.
