Abstract
Tyrosinase is an enzyme involved in melanin production. To identify inhibitors of this enzyme in natural products, extracts and fractions of hemp seed husk were screened for tyrosinase inhibition. Phenylpropionamides 1-9, which were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction, had inhibitory effects; compounds 3 and 4 had the greatest inhibitory effects. Cannabisin A (3) was a non-competitive and cannabisin B (4) was a competitive inhibitor. The binding site and interaction on tyrosinase of each inhibitor were calculated by computational chemistry. Potential inhibitor 3 decreased the melanin content and tyrosinase activity in B16F10 melanoma cells. Therefore, cannabisin A (3) has potential as a tyrosinase inhibitor.

Abstract
Today, pharmaceutical drugs have been shown to have serious side effects, while the bioactive components of botanical plants are proven to be effective in the treatment of several diseases marked by enhanced oxidative stress and mild inflammation, often associated with minimal adverse events. Coumaroyltyramine, designated by various nomenclatures such as paprazine, N-p-trans-coumaroyltyramine, p-coumaroyltyramine and N-p-coumaroyltyramine, could be a promising bioactive ingredient to address health issues thanks to its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. This review represents the first in-depth analysis of coumaroyltyramine, an intriguing phenylpropanoid substance found in many species of plants. In fact, an in-depth examination of coumaroyltyramine's biological characteristics, chemical attributes, and synthesis process has been undertaken. All previous research relating to the discovery, extraction, biosynthesis, and characterization of the biologically and pharmacologically active properties of coumaroyltyramine has been reviewed and taken into consideration in this analysis. All articles published in a peer-reviewed English-language journal were examined between the initial compilations of the appropriate database until February 12, 2024. A variety of phytochemicals revealed that coumaroyltyramine is a neutral amide of hydroxycinnamic acid that tends to concentrate in plants as a reaction against infection caused by pathogens and is extracted from several medicinal herbs such as Cannabis sativa, Solanum melongena, Allium bakeri, Annona cherimola, Polygonatum zanlanscianense, and Lycopersicon esculentum. Thanks to its effectiveness in suppressing the effect of the enzyme α-glucosidase, coumaroltyramine has demonstrated antihyperglycemic activity and could have an impact on diabetes and metabolic disorders. It has considerable anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. These results were obtained through biological and pharmacological studies in silico, in vivo, and in vitro. In addition, coumaroyltyramine has demonstrated hypocholesterolemic and neuroprotective benefits, thereby diminishing heart and vascular disease incidence and helping to prevent neurological disorders. Other interesting properties of coumaroltyramine include anticancer, antibacterial, anti-urease, antifungal, antiviral, and antidysmenorrheal activities. Targeted pathways encompass activity at different molecular levels, notably through induction of endoplasmic reticulum stress-dependent apoptosis, arrest of the cell cycle, and inhibition of the growth of cancer cells, survival, and proliferation. Although the findings from in silico, in vivo, and in vitro experiments illustrate coumaroyltyramine's properties and modes of action, further research is needed to fully exploit its therapeutic potential. To improve our understanding of the compound's pharmacodynamic effects and pharmacokinetic routes, large-scale research should first be undertaken. To determine whether coumaroyltyramine is clinically safe and effective, further studies are required in the clinical and toxicological fields. This upcoming research will be crucial to achieving the overall potency of this substance as a natural drug and in terms of its potential synergies with other drugs.

Abstract
Apple (Malus domestica) is the third most produced fruit worldwide. It is a well-known source of bioactive compounds mainly represented by hydroxycinnamic acids, flavan-3-ols, dihydrochalcones, dehydroascorbic acid, carotenoids, chlorogenic acid, epicatechin, and phloridzin. Due to the lack of a recent evaluation of the clinical trials associated with apple consumption, this review investigated the effects of this fruit on metabolic conditions related to inflammation and oxidative stress and reviewed the applications of apple waste on food products. Thirty-three studies showed that apples or its derivatives exhibit anti-inflammatory and antioxidant actions, improve blood pressure, body fat, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and reduce cardiovascular risks. Apples have a great economic impact due to its several applications in the food industry and as a food supplement since it has impressive nutritional value. Dietary fiber from the fruit pomace can be used as a substitute for fat in food products or as an improver of fiber content in meat products. It can also be used in bakery and confectionary products or be fermented to produce alcohol. Pomace phytocompounds can also be isolated and applied as antioxidants in food products. The potential for the use of apples and by-products in the food industry can reduce environmental damage.

Abstract
Yams are the edible subterranean rhizomes, or tubers, of plants from the genus Dioscorea. There are approximately 600 species of yam plants in the world, with more than 90 of these growing in East Asia. One particular species, Dioscorea opposita Thunb., is highly praised as "the Chinese yam". This distinction arises from millennia of storied history, both as a nutritional food source and as a principal ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine. Among the many cultivars of Dioscorea opposita Thunb., Huai Shanyao has been widely regarded as the best. This review surveyed the historical background, physiochemical composition, applications as food and medicine, and research prospects for the Chinese yam. Modern science is finally beginning to confirm the remarkable health benefits of this yam plant, long-known to the Chinese people. Chinese yam promises anti-diabetic, anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-hypertensive, anti-cancer, and combination treatment applications, both as a functional food and as medicine.

Abstract
Whole hempseed (WHS), fermented whole hempseed (FWHS), dehulled hempseed (DHS), and fermented dehulled hempseed (FDHS) ethanol extracts were tested for their toxicity and physiological benefits in relation to their phenolic profiles. The safety of all samples was confirmed by the absence of toxic effects on HepG2 cells. FWHS exhibited the highest capacity to inhibit lipase activity (70.80%) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) (78.94%) in vitro. Similarly, in HepG2 cells, FWHS revealed the greatest ability to reduce the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Fermented hempseed demonstrated superior antioxidant, neuroprotective and anti-fat potential, counteracting ageing in high glucose diet-induced C. elegans than unfermented. HPLC and UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS2 phenolic identification revealed the presence of diverse flavonoids, phenolic acids, lignanamides, and phenylamides in hempseed extracts. Among these polyphenols, quercetin, gallic acid, and kaempferol exhibited excellent antioxidant potential, whereas N-trans-feruloyl tyramine displayed the highest anti-lipase potential. This study suggests that polyphenol-rich hempseed exhibits potent antioxidant, and anti-obesity effects, and could improve neural health.

Abstract
Cannabis sativa L. is a plant that contains numerous chemically active compounds including cannabinoids such as trans-Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), and flavone derivatives, such as luteolin-7-O-glucuronide and apigenin glucuronide. In particular, the polar fraction of hemp including many phenolic compounds has been overlooked when compared with the more lipophilic fraction containing cannabinoids. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess two extracts of industrial hemp (C. sativa) of different polarity (aqueous and hexane) by evaluating their antioxidant profile and their neuroprotective potential on pharmacological targets in the central nervous system (CNS). Several assays on in vitro antioxidant capacity (DPPH, superoxide radical, FRAP, ORAC), as well as inhibition of physiological enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and monoaminooxidase A (MAO-A) were carried out in order to find out how these extracts may be helpful to prevent neurodegenerative disorders. Neuro-2a cell line was selected to test the cytotoxic and neuroprotective potential of these extracts. Both extracts showed striking antioxidant capacity in the FRAP and ORAC assays, particularly the hexane extract, and interesting results for the DPPH and superoxide radical uptake assays, with the aqueous extract standing out especially in the latter. In enzyme inhibition assays, the aqueous extract showed AChE and MAO-A inhibitory activity, while the hexane extract only reached IC50 value for AChE inhibitory bioassay. Neuro-2a assays demonstrated that polyphenolic extract was not cytotoxic and exhibited cytoprotective properties against hydrogen peroxide and antioxidant response decreasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. These extracts could be a source of compounds with potential benefit on human health, especially related to neurodegenerative disorders.

Abstract
Skin hyperpigmentation is commonly treated by topical drug application. Several naturally occurring compounds exhibit attractive biological effects including anti-melanogenic activity. Chemically modified derivatives of those compounds are expected to be more efficient. However, efficacy and safety testing processes are of significant consideration to identify the most effective compound among them. Herein, we demonstrated a tiered approach to investigate the antipigmentation activity of 17 trans-N-coumaroyltyramine derivatives. First, we evaluated the in chemico antityrosinase activity, then the cytotoxicity of the most potent derivatives using a mitochondrial activity-based assay, followed with the in vitro anti-melanogenic activity in two dimensional (2D) monolayer human melanocytes. The selected derivatives were topically applied on a three dimensional (3D) pigmented-reconstructed human epidermis (pRhE) containing melanocytes and keratinocytes to evaluate their depigmenting activity. Two of the 17 derivatives displayed a significant reduction in pigmentation in the 3D pRhE, comparable to kojic acid, a known tyrosinase inhibitor. In addition, a molecular docking experiment indicated an interaction of the three derivatives and tyrosinase, suggesting that these derivatives have potent anti-melanogenic activity through tyrosinase inhibition. Our findings provide an alternative approach for investigating skin-whitening agents, thereby facilitating the research and development of skin-whitening products that need not be tested on animals.

Some plant seeds and berries have gained increased recognition due to their wide
variety of bioactive compounds. Many of these foods are rich in lipids with high nutritional
value, of which n-3 and n-6 essential fatty acids stand out. However, knowledge of the chemical
composition and biological activity of these compounds and their value as a source of
healthy lipids is far from being fully explored.
The benefits of the intake of hemp seeds, flaxseed, and açaí berries, considered functional
foods, have been compiled in this review. Likewise, their general chemical composition will be
described to evaluate their relevance in a healthy diet, highlighting their lipid components and
health lipid indices.
The fibres and essential fatty acids of hemp seeds and flaxseed and the antioxidant properties
of açaí berries provide them protective roles against several chronic non-communicable diseases
and represent significant beneficial effects that add value to these healthy natural products.
More research is needed to deepen the knowledge on their lipids’ molecular composition and
bioactivity.

Abstract
In Alzheimer's disease (AD) the accumulation of amyloid β (Aβ) plaques in the brain leads to neuroinflammation, neuronal cell dysfunction, and progressive memory loss. Therefore, blocking the formation of Aβ plaques has emerged as one of the most promising strategies to develop AD treatments. Hempseed is widely used as a food, and recently its compounds have shown beneficial effects on neuroinflammation. The objective of this study was to investigate whether a fraction rich in phenyl amide compounds, N-trans-caffeoyltyramine (CAFT) and N-trans-coumaroyltyramine (CUMT), can affect gene expression: β-site amyloid-precursor-protein-cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE 1), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR γ), and PPARγ-coactivator-1α (PGC-1α) in N2a-APP cells. The mRNA levels were measured using RT-qPCR. The ethyl acetate fraction and CAFT were found to reduce BACE1 gene expression and are promissory PPARγ and PGC-1α natural agonists. The results show that hempseed compounds can inhibit the expression of BACE 1, which is involved in the accumulation of Aβ plaques and positively affect transcription factors involved in complex and diverse biological functions.

Abstract
There is an increasing tendency toward the application of plant origin ingredients in meat products. This study evaluates the physicochemical properties and oxidative stability of pork burger patties produced with the addition of dried raw and defatted by supercritical CO2 extraction hemp seed press-cake as protein-rich ingredients (1.5–2.0%) and sweet grass ethanolic extract (0.5%) as a strong natural antioxidant. The main aim of using such a combination was to assess the possibility of mitigating the negative effects of hemp seed press-cake, containing approx. 10% of highly unsaturated oil, on the oxidation of meat products. The patties were compared with the control sample (without additives) during storage on days 0, 4, 8, 15, and 21 at 4 °C in modified atmosphere conditions. Plant ingredients reduced the lightness of pork patties, while their effects on other physicochemical characteristics were insignificant. The patties with fully defatted hemp seed flour showed the lowest grilling losses. Based on the measurement of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, raw hemp seed press-cake increased the oxidative rate of pork patties; however, remarkably, the addition of sweet grass extract completely inhibited oxidation during the whole period of storage. The sensory characteristics of the products were acceptable; however, the patties with sweet grass extract received lower evaluation scores.
