Antecedents of mobile marketing adoption by SMEs:Does industry variance matter?

Analysing the current status, hotspots, and future trends of technology management: Using the WoS and scopus database

This study presents a comprehensive overview of the development process and the latest trends in technology management (TM), laying a robust foundation for further advancements in this domain. To achieve this, we analysed 1944 TM articles from the Web of Science database and 2642 articles from Scopus, spanning the last 20 years. Employing methodologies that involve scientific knowledge graphs and bibliometrics, we analysed diverse aspects such as changes in the annual publication of articles; geographical distribution among countries, institutions, disciplines, and authors; keyword co-occurrence and clusters; and timezone view. Our findings reveal a significant surge in TM's growth in recent years, showcasing its highly promising potential. The USA is the frontrunner in contributing to TM research, followed by China and the UK. TM research is relatively concentrated in the UK, while it appears more dispersed in China. The University of Cambridge had the highest volume of research, and the disciplines of Business, Management, Engineering, and Computer Science occupied the top spots. As TM evolves, a possible challenge could be the emergence of new authoritative authors. Second, TM's vibrant landscape is characterised by hotspots such as innovation, technology strategy, technology acquisition, technology application, technology standards, and sustainable development. Among these, information and medical technologies stand out as the most frequently referenced technologies. Third, the trends in TM are as follows: innovation is subdivided into technological innovation and open innovation, bibliometric analysis and patent analysis have become pivotal methods for knowledge management, the scope of TM has expanded from internal organisational processes to encompass external aspects, and TM is gradually evolving into a mature science, with its focus transitioning from macro to micro and becoming more profound and detailed. Last, Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, big data, and the IoT represent the latest frontier technologies in the realm of TM.

The impact of trade facilitation on African SMEs' performance

Whilst contemporary literature indicates that the business environment (BE) impacts almost all entrepreneurial activities, there are indications that the unique business and institutional setting in Africa (with its challenges and opportunities) and the nature of SMEs (their strengths and weaknesses), among other factors, lead to the context-specific impact of regulations on the performance of African SMEs. Using regressions and propensity score matching methods on a panel of 39,461 firm observations (27 African countries) from the World Bank Enterprise Surveys, we unearthed evidence to suggest that whilst enabling tax administration and business licensing regulations improve SMEs' performance, trade facilitation impedes African SMEs' performance. Furthermore, the institutional context of competition (from foreign firms) worsens trade facilitation's negative impact on African SMEs' performance. These findings suggest a fine-tuning of BE regulations in African countries. Trade facilitation, for example, must be carefully thought through and implemented in a way to benefit SMEs.

Broadband Mobile Applications’ Adoption by SMEs in Taiwan—A Multi-Perspective Study of Determinants

The purpose of this study is to explore what determinants affect small and medium enterprises regarding the adoption of broadband mobile applications. Today, broadband mobile applications are changing the business landscape rapidly, which presents a vital issue for enterprises to understand and tackle. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were applied in this study in order to analyze the issues enterprises may face with broadband mobile applications. Qualitatively, a preliminary study was conducted based on a review of literature to explore the factors that impact small and medium enterprises. Quantitatively, Structural Equation Modeling and AMOS were deployed to further examine the potential factors. As broadband mobile applications are mostly installed in the personal mobile device and operated by individuals, this study integrated the perspective of internal users along with the Technology-Organization-Environment framework to develop an ITOE research model to provide a more comprehensive view on the determinants and factors. The practicality and feasibility of the ITOE research model were then verified by the study results through the fifteen determinants identified. Based on the findings, implications and future research directions are proposed.
