Abstract
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are public health concerns worldwide. These two diseases share the same pathophysiological and genetic similarities. This study aimed to investigate the T2DM known single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the adiponectin C1Q and collagen domain containing (ADIPOQ), cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A and 2B (CDKN2A/2B), and signal sequence receptor subunit 1 (SSR1) genes in a cohort of Romanian GDM pregnant women and perinatal outcomes. DNA was isolated from the peripheral blood of 213 pregnant women with (n = 71) or without (n = 142) GDM. Afterward, ADIPOQ (rs266729), CDKN2A/2B (rs10811661), and SSR1 (rs9505118) gene polymorphisms were genotyped using TaqMan Real-Time PCR analysis. Women with GDM had a higher pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) (p < 0.0001), higher BMI (p < 0.0001), higher insulin resistance homeostatic model assessment (IR-HOMA) (p = 0.0002), higher insulin levels (p = 0.003), and lower adiponectin levels (p = 0.004) at birth compared to pregnant women with normoglycemia. GDM pregnant women had gestational hypertension (GH) more frequently during pregnancy (p < 0.0001), perineal lacerations more frequently during vaginal birth (p = 0.03), and more macrosomic newborns (p < 0.0001) than pregnant women from the control group. We did not find an association under any model (allelic, genotypic, dominant, or recessive) of ADIPOQ rs266729, CDKN2A/2B rs10811661, and SSR1 rs9505118 polymorphisms and GDM. In correlation analysis, we found a weak positive correlation (r = 0.24) between the dominant model GG + CG vs. CC of rs266729 and labor induction failure. In the dominant model TT vs. CC + CT of rs10811661, we found a weak negative correlation between this model and perineal lacerations. Our results suggest that the ADIPOQ rs266729, the CDKN2A/2B rs10811661, and the SSR1 rs9505118 gene polymorphisms are not associated with GDM in a cohort of Romanian pregnant women.

Abstract
Introduction Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a condition characterized by glucose intolerance during pregnancy, estimated to affect approximately 20% of the whole pregnancies and is increasing in prevalence globally. However, there is still a big gap in knowledge about the association between gut microbiota associated metabolism alterations and GDM development. Methods All the participants accomplished the validated internet-based dietary questionnaire for Chinese and serum, fecal samples were collected. HFD, control diet or colesevelam intervention was fed to GDM mice models or Fxr-/- mice models, with or without antibiotics cocktail treatment. Fecal microbiota transplantation were used for further validation. Gut microbiota and metabolites were detected by metagenomic sequencing and high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, respectively. Bile acids of serum, fecal samples from human and mice were analysised. Body weight, average feed intake, blood glucose, insulin levels and oral glucose tolerance test was performed among each groups. Expression levels of Fxr, Shp and Fgf15 mRNA and protein were detected by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and western blot, respectively. Results Our data indicated that high fat diet (HFD) was linked with higher prevalence of GDM, and HFD was positively associated with poor prognosis in GDM patients. Moreover, compared with normal diet (ND) group, GDM patients from HFD group performed a loss of gut microbiota diversity and enrichment of Alistipes onderdonkii, Lachnospiraceae bacterium 1_7_58FAA, and Clostridium aspaaragiforme while ruduction of Akkermansiaceae, Paraprevotell xylaniphila, and Prevotella copri. Additionally, HFD aggravated GDM in mice and gut microbiota depletion by antibiotics crippled the effect of excess fat intake. BAs profile altered in HFD GDM patients and mice models. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) further confirmed that gut microbiota contributed to bile acids (BAs) metabolic dysfunction during HFD-associated GDM development. Mechanically, HFD-FMT administration activated Fxr, Shp, and Fgf15 activity, disturbed the glucose metabolism and aggravated insulin resistance but not in HFD-FMT Fxr-/- mice and ND-FMT Fxr-/- mice. Furthermore, colesevelam intervention alleviated HFD-associated GDM development, improved BAs metabolism, suppressed Fxr, Shp, and Fgf15 activity only in WT mice but not in the Fxr-/- HFD + Colesevelam group and Fxr-/- HFD group. HFD induced GDM and contributed to poor prognosis in GDM parturients through inducing gut microbial dysbiosis and metabolic alteration, especially appeared in BAs profile. Moreover, Fxr pathway participated in regulating HFD-associated gut microbiota disordered BAs metabolites and aggravating GDM in mice. Discussion Modulating gut microbiota and BAs metabolites could be a potential therapeutic strategy in the prevention and treatment of HFD-associated GDM.

Abstract
THE PURPOSE OF THE ARTICLE The article aims to indicate the interdisciplinary and complex nature of the problem of adolescent pregnancy. MATERIALS AND METHODS An analysis of materials contained in the literature on adolescent pregnancy was used. RESULTS Adolescent pregnancy is both a serious health and social challenge. Lack of proper sex education, regressive age of sexual initiation, emotional immaturity and limited access to contraception are the main reasons for teenage pregnancy. It can also be the result of sexual abuse, which is a punishable offense. Pregnancy in minors is associated with a higher risk of complications for both the mother and the fetus, such as hypertension, preterm birth, low birth weight, fetal growth restriction, and preeclampsia. Pregnancy is a significant psychological burden and a major trauma for girls. Low socioeconomic status and lack of support from the family or partner exacerbate this problem, increasing the risk of depression and substance abuse. As a multidisciplinary problem, it requires action on multiple fronts to prevent it and to reduce the number of adolescent pregnancies. Increasing access to contraception, medical care, and sexual education is crucial in combating this issue. Adolescent pregnant women are a group of women who require special antenatal care. When planning educational activities for these patients, one should remember about the specific needs of said girls related to key nutrients such as iodine, iron, folic acid, and calcium. A poor diet may result from difficult living conditions and conflicts with family and partners. Moreover, this pregnancy is often unplanned. CONCLUSIONS A good solution for pregnant adolescents would be the possibility of specialized assistance not only in gynecology and obstetrics, sexology, but also pedagogical, psychological, sociological and dietary.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is one of the most prevalent disorders occurring during pregnancy, which confers significant risk of short and long-term adverse outcomes in both mothers and offspring. Recently, more attention has been paid to the association of pre-pregnancy and early pregnancy healthy dietary patterns, such as Mediterranean dietary pattern with GDM. However, there is a lack of systematic review and meta-analysis summarizing findings in this regard. Hence, we sought to assess the association of MedDiet and GDM in observational studies by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS A comprehensive systematic literature search of observational studies was conducted via PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, up to August 2023. Studies were included in our review if they evaluated the association of MedDiet and GDM, following an observational study design. RESULTS Ten studies were included in this study. Combining effect sizes, we found that adherence to MedDiet was inversely associated with GDM risk (OR = 0.64; CI: 0.52-0.78); implying that higher adherence to the MedDiet could reduce the risk of GDM by about 36%. Stratification by the geographic area, Mediterranean countries, time of dietary assessment and study design, showed a consistent significant association between MedDiet and GDM. CONCLUSION We conclude that adhering to diets resembling MedDiet, before or in early pregnancy, could be associated with lower risks or odds of GDM.

Abstract
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common condition in pregnant women that can affect the health of both the mother and the fetus. A healthy diet reduces the risk of GDM, while on the contrary, an unhealthy diet can increase the risk of developing GDM. Dietary interventions remain an important way to control GDM at this time. However, real-life diets are complex and varied, and the effect of these diets on gestational diabetes is unknown. This article summarizes research related to dietary control of GDM. Hopefully, this will help with dietary interventions for people with GDM.

Abstract
Studies examining preconception eating behaviours with longitudinal dietary patterns from preconception to late pregnancy as well as gestational weight gain (GWG) are limited. We derived dietary pattern trajectories from preconception to late-pregnancy, and related preconception eating behaviours to these trajectories and GWG. Preconception eating behaviours were assessed using the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire measuring cognitive restraint (CR) - conscious restriction of food intake, emotional eating (EE) - overeating in response to negative emotions, and uncontrolled eating (UE) - overeating with a feeling of lack of control. Dietary intakes were measured at preconception, 20-21 and 34-36 weeks' gestation with food frequency questionnaires. Dietary patterns were determined using factor analysis, and trajectories derived using group-based trajectory modelling. Inadequate and excessive GWG were defined according to Institute of Medicine guidelines based on weights at preconception and the last antenatal visit (median: 38 weeks' gestation). Two dietary patterns were derived: 'Fast Food, Fried Snacks and Desserts (FFD)' and 'Soup, Fish and Vegetables (SFV)'. Adherence trajectories from preconception to late-pregnancy were characterised as consistently high ("stable-high") and low ("stable-low"). Women with higher UE scores had higher odds of being in the "stable-high" trajectory (n = 34) of the FFD pattern [Odds Ratio (OR): 1.25, 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 1.03, 1.51], compared to "stable-low" (n = 260). Percentages of women with inadequate, adequate or excessive GWG were 21.7% (n = 70), 25.8% (n = 83), and 52.5% (n = 169), respectively; women with higher EE scores had a higher likelihood of excessive GWG [Relative Risk Ratio (RRR): 1.35, 95% CI: 1.02, 1.80], but this association was attenuated after adjusting for preconception body mass index. Eating behaviour interventions to improve dietary patterns among pregnant women may need to start as early as preconception, incorporating strategies to manage UE.

Abstract
The study addressed a significant gap in the profiling and understanding of the gut microbiota's influence on Malaysian Malay women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). This prospective cohort study aimed to explore the intricate relationship between gut microbiota, dietary choices, and lifestyle factors among Malay women, both with and without GDM. The research specifically focused on participants during the second (T0) and third (T1) trimesters of pregnancy in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. In Part 1 of the study, a diverse pool of pregnant women at T0 was categorized into two groups: those diagnosed with GDM and those without GDM, with a total sample size of 105 individuals. The assessments encompassed demographic, clinical, lifestyle, and dietary factors at the T0 and T1 trimesters. Part 2 of the study delved into microbiome analysis, targeting a better understanding of the gut microbiota among the participants. Stool samples were randomly collected from 50% of the individuals in each group (GDM and non-GDM) at T0 and T1. The collected samples underwent processing, and 16s rRNA metagenomic analysis was employed to study the microbial composition. The results suggested an association between elevated body weight and glucose levels, poor sleep quality, lack of physical activity, greater intake of iron and meat, and reduced fruit consumption among women with GDM compared to non-GDM groups. The microbiome analysis revealed changes in microbial composition over time, with reduced diversity observed in the GDM group during the third trimester. The genera Lactiplantibacillus, Parvibacter, Prevotellaceae UCG001, and Vagococcus positively correlated with physical activity levels in GDM women in the second trimester. Similarly, the genus Victivallis exhibited a strong positive correlation with gravida and parity. On the contrary, the genus Bacteroides and Roseburia showed a negative correlation with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in women without GDM in the third trimester. The study highlighted the multifaceted nature of GDM, involving a combination of lifestyle factors, dietary choices, and changes in gut microbiota composition. The findings emphasized the importance of considering these interconnected elements in understanding and managing gestational diabetes among Malaysian Malay women. Further exploration is essential to comprehend the mechanisms underlying this relationship and develop targeted interventions for effective GDM management.

Abstract
The morbidity of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is increasing and is associated with adverse perinatal outcomes and long-term maternal and infant health. The exact mechanism underlying changes in plasma free fatty acid (FFA) profiles in patients with GDM is unknown. However, it is believed that changes in diet and lipid metabolism may play a role. Fatty acids contain many specific FFAs, and the type of FFA has different impacts on physiological processes; hence, determining changes in FFAs in individual plasma is essential. Alterations in FFA concentration or profile may facilitate insulin resistance. Additionally, some FFAs show potential to predict GDM in early pregnancy and are strongly associated with the growth and development of the fetus and occurrence of macrosomia. Here, we aimed to review changes in FFAs in women with GDM and discuss the relationship of FFAs with GDM incidence and adverse outcomes.

Abstract
Findings from observational studies have suggested a possible association between dietary inflammatory index (DII) and risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and preeclampsia (PE). However, the results of these studies were inconclusive. A systematic review and meta-analysis was carried out to illuminate this association. Systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Scopus and other databases from inception until January 2023. The qualities of included studies were assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. Nine studies (seven cohort, two case-control) were included in the meta-analysis, including 11 423 participants from five different countries. The meta-analysis indicated that a 1-unit increase in the DII score, representing pro-inflammatory diet, was associated with 13 % higher risk of GDM (OR = 1·13; 95 % CI 1·02, 1·25, I2 = 68·4 %, P = 0·004) and 24 % higher risk of PE (OR = 1·24; 95 % CI 1·14, 1·35, I2 = 52·0 %, P = 0·125). Subgroup analysis found that this association was evident among studies with Chinese populations (OR = 1·16; 95 % CI 1·06, 1·28) and studies with mid pregnancy (OR = 1·20; 95 % CI 1·07, 1·34). The findings indicate that pro-inflammatory diet can increase the risk of GDM and PE. Considering some limitations in this study, more studies are needed to verify this association.

Abstract
Preterm birth (PTB), a multi-causal syndrome, is one of the global epidemics. Maternal nutrition, but also neonatal and placental telomere length (TL), are among the factors affecting PTB risk. However, the exact relationship between these factors and the PTB outcome, remains obscure. The aim of this review was to investigate the association between PTB, maternal nutrition, and placental-infant TL. Observational studies were sought with the keywords: maternal nutrition, placental TL, newborn, TL, and PTB. No studies were found that included all of the keywords simultaneously, and thus, the keywords were searched in dyads, to reach assumptive conclusions. The findings show that maternal nutrition affects PTB risk, through its influence on maternal TL. On the other hand, maternal TL independently affects PTB risk, and at the same time PTB is a major determinant of offspring TL regulation. The strength of the associations, and the extent of the influence from covariates, remains to be elucidated in future research. Furthermore, the question of whether maternal TL is simply a biomarker of maternal nutritional status and PTB risk, or a causative factor of PTB, to date, remains to be answered.

Abstract
We aimed to examine the association between the quantity and quality of dietary fat in early pregnancy and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk. In total, 1477 singleton pregnant women were included from Sichuan Provincial Hospital for Women and Children, Southwest China. Dietary information was collected by a 3-d 24-h dietary recall. GDM was diagnosed based on the results of a 75-g, 2-h oral glucose tolerance test at 24-28 gestational weeks. Log-binomial models were used to estimate relative risks (RR) and 95% CI. The results showed that total fat intake was positively associated with GDM risk (Q4 v. Q1: RR = 1·40; 95 % CI 1·11, 1·76; Ptrend = 0·001). This association was also observed for the intakes of animal fat and vegetable fat. After stratified by total fat intake (< 30 %E v. ≥ 30 %E), the higher animal fat intake was associated with higher GDM risk in the high-fat group, but the moderate animal fat intake was associated with reduced risk of GDM (T2 v. T1: RR = 0·65; 95 % CI 0·45, 0·96) in the normal-fat group. Vegetable fat intake was positively associated with GDM risk in the high-fat group but not in the normal-fat group. No association between fatty acids intakes and GDM risk was found. In conclusion, total fat, animal and vegetable fat intakes were positively associated with GDM risk, respectively. Whereas when total fat intake was not excessive, higher intakes of animal and vegetable fat were likely irrelevant with increased GDM risk, even the moderate animal fat intake could be linked to lower GDM risk.

Abstract
Red meat has been an important part of the diet throughout human evolution. Overall, when included as part of a healthy and varied diet, red meat can provide a rich source of bioavailable essential nutrients and high biological value protein. The present paper discusses the dietary role/impact of red and processed meat, with some reference to the relative effect of white meat, in a range of chronic conditions including iron-deficiency anaemia, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), cancer and dementia. The role of red meat in relation to key physiological conditions such as maintaining skeletal muscle and bone health and during pregnancy is also discussed. The inclusion of lean red meat in a healthy, varied diet may be beneficial during these critical conditions. There is however increasing evidence that red meat and especially processed meat are associated with increased risks of CVD, cancer and dementia whereas white meat is neutral or associated with a lower risk. There now seems little doubt that processed and unprocessed meat should have separate public dietary guidance.

Abstract
Purpose An optimal diet for lowering the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is still to be defined, but may comprise of nutrient intakes, dietary patterns, diet quality, and eating frequency. This study was designed to investigate the contribution of diet in developing GDM in a comprehensive way. Methods The dietary intake of overweight or obese women, a risk group for GDM (n = 351), was assessed using 3-day food diaries and diet quality questionnaires in early pregnancy. Eating frequency and nutrient intakes were calculated, and dietary patterns identified using principal component analysis. The inflammatory potential of the diet was determined by calculating the dietary inflammatory index (DII®) and energy-adjusted DII (E-DII™). GDM was diagnosed with an oral glucose tolerance test at 24–28 gestational weeks. Results Higher adherence to ‘healthier dietary pattern’ characterized by consumptions of vegetables and rye bread associated with a reduced risk of GDM (adjusted OR 0.27, 95% CI 0.11–0.70). Higher E-DII score, indicating pro-inflammatory diet, was associated with a 27% higher risk of GDM (adjusted OR 1.27; 95% CI 1.08–1.49) for each E-DII point. In the evaluation of nutrient intakes, total fat, saturated fatty acids (SFAs), and trans fatty acids were higher and fiber lower in women developing GDM compared to women not developing GDM (all p < 0.05). Intakes of total fat, SFAs, and trans fatty acids were also significant predictors for GDM (all p < 0.05). Conclusions The results emphasize the importance of an overall healthy diet and limitation of foods with SFAs, and other nutrients with a high inflammatory potential in reducing the risk of GDM. Abstract
The role of inappropriate lifestyle in the etiology of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and its metabolic and reproductive complications has attracted much attention in recent years; however, most studies involve adult patients. Thus, the study aimed to compare dietary patterns, physical activity, metabolic, anthropometric and inflammatory markers of 14-18-year-old girls with and without PCOS (n = 61 and n = 35, respectively) as well as to assess correlations between concentrations of metabolic and inflammatory markers and macronutrient intake and to identify the independent predictors of PCOS, related to diet and physical activity (PA). Compared to the control group, PCOS girls consumed significantly more total fat (p = 0.0005), including both saturated (SFA) (p = 0.03), monounsaturated (MUFA) (p = 0.0003) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) (p = 0.01). A significantly higher percentage of PCOS patients consumed high and medium glycemic index (GI) foods (p = 0.03) and represented a low level of PA, both during school and in leisure time (41.67 vs. 6.06%; p = 0.0001 and 32.79 vs. 5.71%; p = 0.003, respectively). The PCOS group had also significantly higher waist circumference (WC), C-reactive protein (CRP) (p = 0.01), LDL cholesterol (p = 0.01), fasting insulin (p = 0.002) and HOMA-IR (p = 0.006) levels. There was an inverse correlation between fiber intake and fasting insulin, (p = 0.0002, r = -0.37), HOMA-IR (p = 0.0004, r = -0.35), WC (p = 0.029; r = -0.222) and a positive relationship between high and medium GI diet and insulin concentration (p = 0.003; r = 0.3). An increase of 10 g/day in total fat intake per day increases the probability of PCOS by 1.4 times. If the SFA or MUFA intakes increase by 10 g, the probability of PCOS increase 1.7-fold and 2.5-fold, respectively. The consumption of foods with a medium GI raises the probability of PCOS by more than 3 times, after adjusting for age. The odds ratio decreased for the moderate and high PA at school/work and in leisure time. Further research in girls with PCOS is needed to test whether low GI and dietary fatty acid reduction combined with increased PA is effective in the nonpharmacological treatment and prevention of PCOS complications. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Fatty acid (FA) concentrations have previously been associated with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). However, few studies on GDM have examined FA profiles in early pregnancy or before diagnosis. This study aimed to compare early pregnancy plasma FA profiles of women with and without GDM diagnoses as well as their reported dietary consumption. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS The subjects comprised 853 women from the prospective study: Pregnant Women in Iceland II (PREWICE II), attending their 11-14 weeks ultrasound appointment in 2017-2018. During the visit, blood samples were collected for plasma FA analysis, and dietary habits were assessed using a short food frequency questionnaire. Information on GDM diagnoses was then later extracted from medical records. Differences in FA profile between GDM cases and non-cases were evaluated using the Mann-Whitney U test. RESULTS GDM was diagnosed in 127 women (14.9%). Concentrations of saturated fatty acids, monounsaturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) n-6, PUFA n-3 and total FA were higher in the women who later developed GDM compared with those who did not (p≤0.05). The medians for total FA were 2898 μg/mL for the women with GDM and 2681 μg/mL for those without GDM. Mean adjusted difference for total FA between the groups was 133 μg/mL (95% CI 33 to 233). Similar results were observed in prepregnancy normal-weight women and overweight women/women with obesity. Overall diet quality in early pregnancy appeared to be lower among the women later diagnosed with GDM. CONCLUSION We found that plasma FA profiles in early pregnancy were different for women later diagnosed with GDM compared with those who were not, independent of the women's body mass index.

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between starchy vegetable consumption and subgroup consumption in the first trimester and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). METHODS A prospective study (n = 1444) was conducted in China. Dietary information was assessed by 24-hour dietary recalls for three days and then we calculated the consumption of total starchy vegetable and its subgroups, including (1) potato and (2) other starchy vegetable (pumpkin, lotus root, yam, taro, water chestnut, pea, and cowpea). GDM was diagnosed according to the results of 75-g two-hour oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) at 24-28 weeks of gestation. A modified log-binomial regression was used to estimate RRs and 95% CIs of GDM risk. RESULTS Among the 1444 participants in our study, 520 were diagnosed with GDM. The adjusted RRs (95% CIs) for GDM from the lowest to the highest quartiles of total starchy vegetable consumption were 1.00 (reference), 1.29 (1.06, 1.57), 1.13 (0.93, 1.40), and 1.26 (1.02, 1.56), respectively; p for trend = .032. For potato, the RR of GDM risk was 1.32 for the highest potato intake quartile compared with the lowest quartile (95% CI 1.07-1.64, p for trend = .003). In addition, we did not observe an association between other starchy vegetable intakes and GDM risk. CONCLUSIONS A higher consumption of total starchy vegetables and potatoes in the first trimester is associated with a greater risk of GDM.

Abstract
Purpose Studies regarding the association between dietary fat intake and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are limited and provide conflicting findings. Thus, the study aims to examine the association of dietary fat intake in the year preceding pregnancy and during pregnancy with the risk of GDM, taking the relevance of dietary protein intake on GDM into consideration. Methods A prospective study was conducted in 6299 singleton pregnancies, using the data from the Nutrition in Pregnancy and Growth in Southwest China (NPGSC). A validated food frequency questionnaire was used to assess dietary fat intake in the year preceding pregnancy and during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the prospective associations of dietary fat intake and the type and source of dietary fats in different time windows with GDM risk. Results Higher intake of total fat [OR (95% CI): 2.21 (1.19–4.20), P = 0.02] during 12–22 weeks of gestation was associated with higher GDM risk. However, adjustment for animal protein intake greatly attenuated this association [OR (95% CI): 1.81 (0.93, 3.64), P = 0.11]. Total fat intake neither in the year preceding pregnancy nor during the early pregnancy was associated with GDM risk. Moreover, insignificant associations were observed between intakes of vegetable fat, animal fat, cholesterol, saturated fatty acid, monounsaturated fatty acid and polyunsaturated fatty acid one year before pregnancy and during the first and second trimesters and GDM risk. Conclusion Our study indicated that dietary fat intake one year before pregnancy and across the two pregnancy trimesters preceding the diagnosis of GDM has no relevance on GDM risk among Chinese women, particularly those with normal BMI, low, or normal calorie intake.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to synthesize evidence regarding the association between interpregnancy weight change (IPWC) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in the subsequent pregnancy. METHODS MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science were searched from inception to May 10, 2020. This review included studies that reported the association between IPWC and GDM in the subsequent pregnancy without restriction on study design, IPWC classification, or parity. The "no weight change" interpregnancy category was defined by each study, and data were synthesized to analyze the risk of GDM according to weight change. RESULTS Thirteen observational studies were included. A higher risk of GDM in the subsequent pregnancy when there was interpregnancy weight gain (odds ratio [OR] = 1.56; 95% CI: 1.30-1.83; I2 = 82.30%) was found. However, interpregnancy weight loss was associated with lower risk of GDM in the subsequent pregnancy (OR = 0.83; 95% CI: 0.68-0.98; I2 = 58.10%), but the decrease in the risk of GDM in the subsequent pregnancy was greater among women with pregestational BMI higher than 25 kg/m2 (OR = 0.58; 95% CI: 0.39-0.77; I2 = 0.00%). CONCLUSIONS The risk of GDM in the subsequent pregnancy increases with interpregnancy weight gain, whereas it decreases with interpregnancy weight loss.
