A Novel Electrochemical Sensor Based on Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes/Poly (L-Methionine) for the Investigation of 5-Nitroindazole: A Voltammetric Study

The development of electrochemical DNA biosensor based on poly-l-methionine and bimetallic AuPt nanoparticles coating: Picomolar detection of Imatinib and Erlotinib

We report on the preparation of a new and simple electrochemical DNA biosensor based on DNA/AuPt/p-L-Met coating on a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPE) and its use in the determination of the cancer therapy agents, Imatinib (IMA) and Erlotinib (ERL). Poly-l-methionine (p-L-Met), gold, and platinum nanoparticles (AuPt) were successfully coated by one-step electrodeposition onto the SPE from a solution containing L-Met, HAuCl_4, and H₂PtCl₆. The immobilization of DNA was achieved by drop-casting on the surface of the modified electrode. Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) were used to investigate the morphology, the structure, and the electrochemical performance of the sensor. Experimental factors influencing the coating and DNA immobilization processes were optimized. The peak currents originating from guanine (G) and adenine (A) oxidation of ds-DNA were used as signals to quantify IMA and ERL in the concentration range 2.33-80 nM and 0.032-1.0 nM with the LODs of 0.18 nM and 0.009 nM, respectively. The biosensor developed was suitable for determining IMA and ERL in human serum and pharmaceutical samples.

Sensors to the Diagnostic Assessment of Anticancer and Antimicrobial Therapies Effectiveness by Drugs a with Pyrazine Scaffold

Treatment with pyrazine derivatives—antituberculosis pyrazinamide (PZA), anticancer bortezomib (BZM), and antifungal pyrazine-2-amidoxime (PAOX) and pyrazine-2-thiocarboxamide (PTCA)—is associated with side effects, as observed in the case of other therapeutic drugs. To prevent the side effects of pyrazine derivatives, researchers are working to develop a universal method that will detect these compounds in body fluids. There is a lack of literature data about voltammetric measurements with poly-L-amino acid-modified GCEs surfaces. The available reports describe the application of various modifications of these electrodes for the detection of different active substances of drugs; however, they do not indicate one particular method for the detection of drugs with a pyrazine skeleton. This research aimed to prepare three types of glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) with modified surfaces by electropolymerization using 1, 10, and 100 mM solutions of L-glycine (Gly), L-alanine (Ala), L-lysine (Lys), respectively. The poly-amino acid coatings applied on GCE surfaces were analyzed in detail under a three-dimensional (3D) microscope and were used as chemosensors of four pyrazine drugs in stoichiometric tests. The results were compared with the measurements made on an unmodified GCE. To obtain reliable results, the linearity of measurements was also verified in the concentration gradient and appropriate scanning speed was chosen to achieve the most accurate measurements.

Application of a Conducting Poly-Methionine/Gold Nanoparticles-Modified Sensor for the Electrochemical Detection of Paroxetine

This work demonstrates a facile electropolymerization of a dl-methionine (dl-met) conducting polymeric film on a gold nanoparticle (AuNPs)-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The resulting sensor was successfully applied for the sensitive detection of paroxetine·HCl (PRX), a selective serotonin (5-HT) reuptake inhibitor (SSRIs), in its pharmaceutical formulations. The sensor was characterized morphologically using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) and electrochemical techniques such as differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The proposed sensor, poly (dl-met)/AuNPs-GCE, exhibited a linear response range from 5 × 10⁻¹¹ to 5 × 10⁻⁸ M and from 5 × 10⁻⁸ to 1 × 10⁻⁴ M using DPV with lowest limit of detection (LOD = 1 × 10⁻¹¹ M) based on (S/N = 3). The poly (dl-met)/AuNPs-GCE sensor was successfully applied for PRX determination in three different pharmaceutical formulations with percent recoveries between 96.29% and 103.40% ± SD (±0.02 and ±0.58, respectively).

An electrochemical sensor for attomolar determination of mercury(II) using DNA/poly-L-methionine-gold nanoparticles/pencil graphite electrode

The present work describes an ultrasensitive electrochemical sensor for determination of mercury(II) using deoxyribonucleic acid/poly-L-methionine-gold nanoparticles/pencil graphite electrode (DNA/PMET-AuNPs/PGE). To fabricate this biosensor, L-methionine (L-MET) was electropolymerized on the PGE surface followed by simultaneous electrochemical entrapment of AuNPs. Next, DNA was immobilized on the PMET-AuNPs/PGE by applying a 0.5 V potential. The surface area of modified and unmodified electrodes was determined by chronocoulometric technique. Hg²⁺ was detected in the linear dynamic range of 0.1 aM to 0.1 nM, and the detection limit was determined as 0.004 aM using square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) under optimized conditions. The DNA/PMET-AuNPs/PGE demonstrated good selectivity toward Hg²⁺ against other metal ions such as V⁴⁺, Pb²⁺, Cr³⁺, Cd²⁺, Cu²⁺, Zn²⁺, Sn²⁺, In³⁺, Ge⁴⁺, and Fe³⁺. Real samples studies were carried out in sea water and fish samples.
