Abstract
Ceiba pentandra shell powder (CPSP) biowaste is chosen as a biofiller combined with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as a matrix to make biofilms to increase the exploitation of biowaste materials and reduce the use of plastic materials. FTIR plots indicated no significant chemical reaction or formation of new functional groups during interaction between PVA and CPSP. XRD diffractograms showed that the crystallinity index (35.3, 38.6, 42.3, 46.4, and 48.5%) and crystalline size (18.14, 20.89, 23.23, 24.87, and 26.34 nm) of biofilms increased with CPSP loading (5-25 wt %). The PVA/CPSP films are thermally stable up to 322 °C. The peak highs of AFM images showed that the films' surface roughness gradually increased from 94.75 nm (5 wt % CPSP) to 320.17 nm (25 wt % CPSP). The FESEM micrographs clarify the homogeneous distribution of CPSP in the PVA matrix. Tensile strength and tensile modulus are noticeably increased by 26.32 and 37.92%, respectively, as a result of the loading of CPSP from 5 to 20 wt % in the PVA matrix. The PVA/CPSP films outperform pure PVA films in UV shielding (350-450 nm). The 59% weight loss of films was estimated during 60 days of burial. The fabricated biofilms maintained their suitable structural, thermal, morphological, and mechanical properties. Additionally, they exhibited consistent performance in ultraviolet (UV) barrier, opacity, water absorption, water vapor permeability, soil burial, and antimicrobial characteristics over time. Overall, PVA/CPSP (5-25 wt %) films are biodegradable and have promising applications as good packaging materials.

Preparation and evaluation of high-performance modified alkyd resins based on 1,3,5-tris-(2-hydroxyethyl)cyanuric acid and study of their anticorrosive properties for surface coating applications. Abstract
Abstract
By partially substituting 1,3,5-tris-(2-hydroxyethyl) cyanuric acid for glycerol as the polyol, new modified alkyd resins having a wide range of oil length and hydroxyl content were produced. FT-IR, 1H NMR, acid and iodine values, and other characterization techniques were used to confirm the chemical compositions of the modified alkyd resins. The drying qualities of the alkyd resins synthesized were significantly enhanced by adding a greater quantity of freshly prepared polyol and excess –OH, along with improvements in flexibility, gloss measurement, gloss measurement, and scratch hardness, in comparison to unaltered alkyd resin (blank). The corrosion resistance of dried coated steel panels was examined using a salt spray test. By using a specifically designed modified alkyd resin as a binder, the corrosion resistance of painted steel panels was improved. The addition of the new polyol, which contains nitrogen components, as well as the alkyd resins that provide strong adherence to the steel surface, may be responsible for such an improvement.

Abstract
Recent nanotechnological advancements have enabled novel innovations in protective polymer nanocomposites (PNC) coatings for anti-corrosion, anti-fouling and self-healing services on material surfaces. Nanotechnology encompases research, manufacturing, and application of nanoparticulate architectures, tubular structures, sheets or plates exhibiting sizes below 100 nanometers (nm) in at least a single dimension. Inclusions of nanoparticles into organic entities have demonstrated enhanced properties essential for attainiment of aesthetics, anti-corrosion, thermal stability for high-temperature performances, mechanical strength essential for resisting coating deterioration in harsh environments, nano-architectural cross-linking capable of hindering penetration of corrosive, and biofouling entities. Unlike previously published literature, this paper elucidates very recently emerging important advancements in novel techniques utilized in developing PNC coatings for applications in aerospace, packaging, automotive, biomedicine, maritime, and oil and gas industries for attaining superior anti-fouling, anti-corrosion, and self-healing behaviors on critical material surfaces. Emerging market structures and novel applications are also presented.
