Continuum dual theory of the transition in 3D lattice superconductor

Frozen Deconfined Quantum Criticality

There is a number of contradictory findings with regard to whether the theory describing easy-plane quantum antiferromagnets undergoes a second-order phase transition. The traditional Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson approach suggests a first-order phase transition, as there are two different competing order parameters. On the other hand, it is known that the theory has the property of self-duality which has been connected to the existence of a deconfined quantum critical point (DQCP). The latter regime suggests that order parameters are not the elementary building blocks of the theory, but rather consist of fractionalized particles that are confined in both phases of the transition and only appear-deconfine-at the critical point. Nevertheless, many numerical Monte Carlo simulations disagree with the claim of a DQCP in the system, indicating instead a first-order phase transition. Here we establish from exact lattice duality transformations and renormalization group analysis that the easy-plane CP^{1} antiferromagnet does feature a DQCP. We uncover the criticality starting from a regime analogous to the zero temperature limit of a certain classical statistical mechanics system which we therefore dub frozen. At criticality our bosonic theory is dual to a fermionic one with two massless Dirac fermions, which thus undergoes a second-order phase transition as well.

Effective theory of high-temperature superconductors

The field theory of a fluctuating d-wave superconductor is constructed and proposed as an effective description of superconducting cuprates at low energies. The theory is used to resolve a puzzle posed by recent experiments on superfluid density in severely underdoped YBa2(Cu3)O(6+x). In particular, the overall temperature dependence of the superfluid density at low dopings is argued to be described well by the strongly anisotropic weakly interacting Bose gas, and thus approximately linear in temperature with an almost doping-independent slope.

Evidence for charged critical behavior in the pyrochlore superconductor RbOs2O6

We analyze magnetic penetration depth (lambda) data of the recently discovered superconducting pyrochlore oxide RbOs(2)O(6). Our results strongly suggest that in RbOs(2)O(6) charged critical fluctuations dominate the temperature dependence of lambda near T(c). This is in contrast with the mean-field behavior observed in conventional superconductors and the uncharged critical behavior found in nearly optimally doped cuprate superconductors. However, this finding agrees with the theoretical predictions for charged criticality and the charged criticality observed in underdoped YBa(2)Cu(3)O(6.59).

Anomalous scaling dimensions and stable charged fixed point of type-II superconductors

The critical properties of a type-II superconductor model are investigated using a dual vortex representation. Computing the propagators of gauge field A and dual gauge field h in terms of a vortex correlation function, we obtain the values eta(A) = 1 and eta(h) = 1 for their anomalous dimensions. This provides support for a dual description of the Ginzburg-Landau theory of type-II superconductors in the continuum limit, as well as for the existence of a stable charged fixed point of the theory, not in the 3D XY universality class.
