Abstract
INTRODUCTION Few studies have explored the intricate connections between vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms, VDR, tight junction (TJ) protein expression and clinical features of atopic dermatitis (AD). METHODS From 43 adult AD patients, VDR polymorphisms were genotyped from peripheral blood samples using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. VDR, occludin, claudin-1 and ZO-1 protein expression from skin lesion biopsies were assessed by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS The A1012G heterozygous VDR polymorphism exhibited a lower odds ratio (OR) for juvenile AD onset (OR: 0.046, 95% CI 0.004-0.51, p=0.012). In contrast, the presence of ≥2 homozygous VDR polymorphisms were significantly associated with positive skin prick test (SPT) (10/20, 50%) vs. negative SPT (1/23, 4.3%; p=0.0003). The most highly expressed TJ proteins in lesions of AD patients were claudin-1 and zonulin-1 (ZO-1), while VDR and occludin were less prevalent. A significant correlation was observed between ZO-1 expression and a body mass index ≥30 kg/m2 (OR: 12.1, 95% CI 1.06-137.9, p=0.045). Claudin-1 expression was associated with a positive SPT (OR: 8.23, 95% CI 1.04-65.5, p=0.046) and serum 25(OH)D levels were negatively correlated with ZO-1 expression (rho= -0.43, p=0.0058). CONCLUSION This study provides novel insights into the relationship between VDR gene polymorphisms, VDR, TJ protein expression, and clinical features in adult AD patients, highlighting a significant role of vitamin D in the pathophysiology of this disease.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Our aim was to analyze the results of published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on vitamin D supplementation for psoriasis in order to explore its effectiveness and safety. PATIENTS AND METHODS As of July 7 2023, we conducted a systematic literature search in PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, and Web of Science Core Collection databases. The study outcomes included change values in Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) (at 3 months, 6 months, and end of follow-up)/Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI)/Psoriasis disability index (PDI)/C-reactive protein (CRP), and adverse events. RESULTS 333 patients from 4 studies were evaluated. Pooled analyses showed no significant effect of DLQI/PDI/CRP change value (P > 0.05) or PASI change value (3 months, end of follow-up; P > 0.05). Sensitivity analyses and statistical tests did not support the results of the PASI change values (6 months, P = 0.05). However, the results of subgroup analyses should not be ignored(supplementation with vitamin D2 or Asia would be more effective; P = 0.03). There were no serious adverse effects, and only a few individuals experienced nausea. CONCLUSIONS The efficacy and safety of vitamin D supplementation in the treatment of psoriasis remains unremarkable. The search for a new prognostic index that combines clinical and laboratory factors is needed to compensate for the shortcomings of existing measures and provide stronger evidence of validity.

Abstract
Background/Purpose Psoriasis is a multifactorial disease. It is a combination of genetic, immunological, and environmental factors. Vitamin D receptor (VDR) is a nuclear receptor that regulates epidermal cell growth through the inhibition of proliferation and induction of keratinocytes terminal differentiation. Aim of the study was to investigate the effect of Narrow-band UVB (NB-UVB) therapy on VDR expression in the skin of psoriasis patients. Materials and Methods Forty patients with different severities of psoriasis were assessed using the psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) score. Lesional and non-lesional skin biopsies were obtained from each patient before NB-UVB therapy, and then a third lesional biopsy was performed after completing 24 sessions of NB-UVB. Immunohistochemistry for VDR was performed on all specimens. Results There was a significant decrease in VDR expression in psoriatic lesions compared to that in non-lesional skin before treatment. A statistically negative correlation was detected between the degree of VDR expression before treatment and PASI score, family history, and duration of psoriasis. There was a significant increase in VDR expression at the sites of psoriasis lesions post-NB-UVB therapy compared to pretreatment lesional skin. Conclusion VDR expression was down-regulated in psoriatic lesions compared to non-lesional skin, and NB-UVB therapy improved VDR expression in psoriasis skin lesions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many clinical features of psoriasis include a rash with itchy, scaly patches, most frequently on the knees, elbows, trunk, and scalp. By studying genes involved with psoriasis receptivity, the pathologic pathways of psoriasis become clearer and more understood. AIM To predict the participation of rs1544410 in serum vitamin D levels (SDL) in psoriasis, psoriasis susceptibility, and severity. PATIENTS/METHODS One hundred five patients with psoriasis were categorized by body surface area as mild, moderate, and severe. SDL and genetic analysis of rs1544410 were performed using polymerase chain reaction and standard Sanger methods. RESULT Our findings revealed that SDL were higher in healthy subjects than in patients. The rs1544410 genotype TT was more prevalent in patients, while CT was more prevalent in controls. Our findings revealed that the T alleles were frequently more in the patient group than in the controls. (p ≤ 0.001). While in healthy normal individuals, the C alleles were frequently more (p ≤ 0.001). SDL are lower in patients with the TT genotype. Patients with moderate form of psoriasis have higher SDL than those with mild or severe form. CONCLUSION rs1544410 polymorphism has been linked to a higher probability of psoriasis and SDL deficiency. However, grander scale studies in a larger number of people are necessary.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a continuing, periodic, immune‑mediated, fiery skin disease branded by hyper proliferation of epidermal keratinocytes and accompanying with inflammatory cellular infiltrate in both dermis and epidermis. Immunomodulation could be an important effect of vitamin D in Psoriasis. This case-control study was designed to measure serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels in patients with psoriasis and healthy controls and to find out clinical correlation, if any. Six hundred two (n = 602) subjects (285 cases and 317 controls) were taken for the study. Cases and controls were frequency matched with respect to age and gender. Various demographic and clinical details were taken using a questionnaire. Chemiluminescence Micro Particle Immunoassay was used to estimate serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels. The vitamin D deficiency in psoriasis patients was 60.0% vs. 17.5% in controls (P < 0.001) with mean vitamin D levels of 28.3 ± 13.9 ng/ml in psoriasis patient’s vs. 37.9 ± 9.7 ng/ml in controls. Vitamin D deficiency was found to be associated with psoriasis independently of gender, age, smoking status, family history, hypertension, chronic medication, nail changes, duration of symptoms and severity of disease. Vitamin D levels were seven times lower in patients with Psoriasis as compared to controls. Reduced vitamin D levels are related to duration and clinical severity of the disease. Early detection of vitamin D deficiency and timely intervention could lead to better clinical outcome and improved quality of life in psoriasis patients.

Abstract
Background Vitamin D is a regulatory factor for skin immune functions through vitamin D receptor, which is expressed on many immune cells. Vitamin D receptor is located on chromosome 12q 13.11 and has many single nucleotide polymorphisms. Some of them were hypothesized to be associated with psoriasis. Psoriasis is a genetic disease that is greatly affected by environmental factors. Methods A total of 135 psoriasis patients and 114 healthy controls were recruited. Both had a measurement of serum vitamin D and two vitamin D receptor variants:, rs1544410: G > A (HGVS:NC_000012.12:g.47846052) and rs7975232: C > A (HGVS: NC_000012.12:g.47845054). We assessed the relationship between vitamin deficiency as well as the two gene polymorphisms with psoriasis susceptibility and severity. Results Serum vitamin D levels were not significantly different between cases and controls. However, a significant association between vitamin D levels and severity was observed. We attributed this to our finding that rs7975232 was more significantly polymorphic among cases than controls, while rs1544410 polymorphism did not show a significant difference among the 2 groups. Conclusion We did not find a significant difference in serum vitamin D levels between cases and controls. Yet, psoriasis severity was significantly associated with serum vitamin D levels. We attributed this to other findings that the vitamin D receptor rs7975232 gene is polymorphic in psoriasis patients. At the same time, rs1544410 was not significantly more polymorphic in psoriasis patients. Both genes’ polymorphisms were associated with severe psoriasis.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the most common comorbidities that may affect psoriatic patients. Several exogenous and endogenous factors are involved in the etiology and progression of both psoriasis and CVD. A potential genetic link between the two diseases has emerged; however, some gaps remain in the understanding of the CVD prevalence in psoriatic patients. Recently, the role of the gut microbiome dysbiosis was documented in the development and maintenance of both diseases. To investigate whether gut microbiome dysbiosis might influence the occurrence of CVD in psoriatic patients, 16S rRNA gene sequencing was performed to characterize the gut microbiome of 28 psoriatic patients, including 17 patients with and 11 without CVD. The comparison of the gut microbiome composition between patients with and without CVD showed a higher prevalence of Barnesiellaceae and Phascolarctobacterium in patients with CVD. Among patients with CVD, those undergoing biologic therapy had lower abundance levels of Barnesiellaceae, comparable to those found in patients without CVD. Overall, these findings suggest that the co-occurrence of psoriasis and CVD might be linked to gut microbiome dysbiosis and that therapeutic strategies could help to restore the intestinal symbiosis, potentially improving the clinical management of psoriasis and its associated comorbidities.

Abstract
Psoriasis is an autoimmune chronic inflammatory condition of skin affecting 125 million populaces around the globe. It is implicated as a result of multifaceted phenomena involving various cell and subcell activities with the aid of numerous cellular and molecular components including signaling aisle and regulatory proteins owing to the development of such hyperproliferative dermatological conditions. This involves a deeply complex and conflicting pathology owing to genetic and immunological deviations resulting from the unusual presentation of different signaling pathways and regulatory proteins. Explorations of these biomarkers and intervention of molecular and cellular processes in psoriasis are yet to be investigated and could be an exceptional aspect for understanding pathology with successful targeting of disease. In the presented study, we have integrated molecular insights, including signaling molecules, pathways, and proteins implicated in pathogenesis, and we have attempted to link this knowledge to the targeting of these phenomena in order to manage the conditions precisely. Further, therapeutic delivery approaches for targeting distinct layers of skin have also been investigated based on the application of different nanocarriers for successful psoriasis treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies investigated the associations between four Vitamin D receptor (VDR) common variations and interactions of gene-environment factors and atopic dermatitis (AD) in Chinese population are few. METHODS In this case-control study, 400 AD patients and 400 controls were genotyped for the FokI, TaqI, BsmI and ApalI variations of VDR genes by restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. The associations between VDR genes and AD were assessed by univariate and multivariate logistic regression. The interactions between VDR genes and some risk factors were also explored using cross-over analysis. The corresponding odds ratio (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were also calculated. RESULTS The FoKI rs2228570 polymorphism was significantly associated with an increased risk of atopic dermatitis in the co-dominant model (OR=2.93, 95% CI: 1.78-4.82. P=0.000), recessive model (OR=2.67, 95% CI: 1.68-4.26, P=0.000) and dominant model (OR=1.38, 95% CI: 1.04-1.84, P=0.028), and allele model. No significant associations were found among TaqI, BsmI and ApalI polymorphism and AD. The C-A-T-C and C-G-T-T haplotypes significantly increased the risk of atopic dermatitis. For rs2228570, the increased effects were more evident in the subgroups of age ≤8-month, cow milk and mixed, and keeping pet. Interactions between rs2228570 gene polymorphism and family history, age >8, and keeping pet increased the AD risk. The rs2228570 C allele decreased the relative mRNA expression. CONCLUSION The FokI rs2228570 C allele of VDR gene could be a risk candidate gene for AD. Interactions between FokI polymorphism and family history and some behaviors may increase the risk of AD.

Abstract
There are increasing data about the role of the gut microbiome in various autoimmune diseases, including psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory and immune-mediated disease. Current treatment strategies in psoriasis include immunomodulating biologic agents. A variable response to this type of therapy has been reported in psoriatic patients. A possible effect of biologic therapy on the gut microbiome composition has been suggested, but data are still limited. The aim of this study was to compare the gut microbiome composition between psoriatic patients treated and untreated with biologic drugs in order to identify differences which may highlight the potential impact of the treatment on the gut microbiome. 16S rRNA sequencing and bioinformatic analyses were performed on the fecal samples of 30 psoriatic patients with similar clinicopathological features, 10 of whom were undergoing biologic therapy and 20 not receiving systemic therapy. Alpha and beta diversity significantly differed between the two groups of patients. A reduced bacterial biodiversity in the group of treated patients compared with the group of untreated patients was observed. Differential relative abundances of key gut microbial communities, including Akkermansia muciniphila and Bacteroides plebeius, were identified between the two groups of patients. This study showed that biologic therapy may have an impact on the composition of the gut microbiome of psoriatic patients. Gut microbiome composition could be used as an indicator of response to therapy and the modulation of the microbial composition could help to restore the intestinal symbiosis in psoriatic patients.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a common genetic disease characterized by hyperproliferation and disordered maturation of keratinocytes. To date, many association studies between psoriasis and VDR gene have been conducted, but the results are controversial. Furthermore, vitamin D3 analogue has anti-psoriatic activity; however, the clinical response is variable. This study was conducted to explore whether VDR gene polymorphisms are associated with psoriasis susceptibility and clinical response to calcipotriol in psoriatic patients. A total of 110 patients and 183 controls were genotyped for VDR gene polymorphisms rs2228570, rs731236, rs1544410 and rs7975232 by LDR method. SNP-based and haplotype-based association analyses were subsequently performed. Patients with PASI < 3 were treated with calcipotriol ointment monotherapy. After 6 weeks of therapy, the correlations between efficacy and the genotypes of each polymorphism were evaluated. The results showed that for rs7975232, allele A was significantly over-represented in psoriasis patients relative to controls (39.09% vs. 27.05%, OR (95% CI) = 1.731 (1.213-2.471)), and compared with the reference CC genotype, the following ORs were observed: AA genotype OR = 2.404 (95% CI: 1.085-5.328; P = .034) and GA genotype OR = 2.143 (95% CI: 1.283-3.579; P = .005). Haplotype analyses showed that the rs2228570/rs731236/rs1544410/rs7975232 CTGA was significantly over-represented in psoriasis patients compared with controls (OR (95% CI)=1.907 (1.132-3.214); P = .020). Among the patients with PASI < 3, the response rates to calcipotriol were significantly higher in patients with rs7975232 CC genotypes than in those with other genotypes (x2 = 9.172, P = .010). These data suggest that VDR polymorphisms are associated with psoriasis susceptibility and clinical response to calcipotriol in psoriatic patients.

Abstract
Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease. The thyroid hormone receptors are expressed in human skin and the hormones exert their effects on epidermal proliferation and differentiation; they have been hypothesized to play a role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. Vitamin D is involved in the maintenance of cutaneous barrier homeostasis. Several studies identified an association between polymorphisms of Vitamin D receptor and psoriasis susceptibility. Subjects and Methods: Thirty clinically diagnosed psoriasis patients in the age group between 20 and 50 years of both genders attending the outpatient department of dermatology were included as cases. Thirty healthy subjects attending routine health checkup were included as controls. Serum 25 hydroxycholecalciferol was estimated in Mini Vidas autoanalyzer by immunofluorescence technique and Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free T3, and free T4 were estimated by chemiluminescence technology in Cobas e411. Dermatology quality of life index (DLQI) and psoriasis area severity index (PASI) questionnaire was used to assess the quality of life and severity of psoriasis respectively. Results: TSH level was significantly increased in psoriasis cases when compared to healthy controls but within reference range (P < 0.05). There is a significant negative correlation between PASI and 25-hydroxycholecalciferol and significant negative correlation between PASI and DLQI. Conclusion: Our study emphasizes the relationship between biochemical markers, severity of psoriasis, and quality of life. A multimodal holistic approach is needed for the treatment of psoriasis. Psychological support for stress management, drug therapy, and biochemical markers assessment for severity of psoriasis are the need of the hour.

Abstract
In addition to its quintessential role in bone homeostasis, vitamin D also plays an important role in regulating the immune system. As such, many studies have demonstrated the therapeutic benefit of vitamin D in treating autoimmune diseases. This immunomodulatory activity of vitamin D has recently attracted more attention due to the rapid development of immunotherapies for cancers, including melanoma. Patients on cancer immunotherapies can suffer from immune-related adverse events (irAEs), which can involve any organ system and range from common dermatological reactions to extremely severe cases of fatal myocarditis in metastatic melanoma patients. Since there are currently no effective approaches to predict or prevent irAEs, it is attractive to potentially leverage the intriguing immunomodulatory effects of vitamin D within this context. This review will discuss recent research investigating the possibility of using vitamin D to alleviate autoimmunity and irAEs with the hope of improving outcomes for patients on cancer immunotherapies, especially within the context of dermatology.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a common chronic immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease, now considered a systemic inflammatory process with several comorbidities. The skin produces vitamin D by the action of ultraviolet light. Vitamin D performs various immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antifibrotic actions. The immunomodulatory effects of vitamin D offer opportunities to improve the treatment of several autoimmune diseases, such as psoriasis. In the literature, several significant associations are reported between low levels of vitamin D and psoriasis. Today, topical vitamin D represents an important therapeutic option due to its action on the proliferation and maturation of keratinocytes. The situation is different regarding the oral intake and integration of vitamin D in psoriasis patients. The use of vitamin D supplementation as an adjunctive treatment option in these patients is still discussed. This work aims to analyze the association between psoriasis and vitamin D levels according to dermatologists and nutritionists.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The study aims at scientifically investigating the genetic effect of four polymorphisms (rs7975232, rs1544410, rs2228570, and rs731236) within the human Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) gene on the odds of psoriasis through an updated meta-analysis. METHODS We searched eight databases and screened the studies for pooling. Finally, a total of eighteen eligible case-control studies were included. BH (Benjamini & Hochberg) adjusted P-values of association (Passociation) and odd ratios (ORs) with the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated under the allele, homozygote, heterozygote, dominant, recessive, and carrier models. RESULTS Compared with the negative controls, no statistically significant difference in the odds of psoriasis was detected for the cases under any genetic models (BH adjusted Passociation > 0.05). We also performed subgroup meta-analyses by the source of controls, ethnicity, country, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, and genotyping method. Similar results were observed in most subgroup meta-analyses (BH adjusted Passociation > 0.05). Besides, data of Begg's and Egger's tests excluded the significant publication bias; while the sensitivity analysis data further indicated the statistical reliability of our pooling results. CONCLUSION The currently available data fails to support a robust association between VDR rs7975232, rs1544410, rs2228570 and rs731236 polymorphisms and psoriasis susceptibility, which still required the support of more case-control studies.

Abstract
Although first discovered in 1931, vitamin D has seen an increased interest in the scientific community over the past decades, including the dermatology field. Vitamin D promotes calcium and phosphorus absorption; however, the actions of vitamin D are not confined to bone. Indeed, there is now overwhelming and compelling scientific data that vitamin D plays a crucial role in a plethora of cellular function and in extra-skeletal health. Except for fatty fish livers, very few foods naturally contain vitamin D; and the major source of vitamin D comes from skin exposure to sunlight via ultraviolet B. Keratinocytes are unique in the body as not only do they provide the primary source of vitamin D for the body, but they also possess both the enzymatic machinery to metabolize the vitamin D produced to active metabolites. This has been referred to as the photoendocrine vitamin D system. Vitamin D regulates keratinocytes proliferation and differentiation; and plays a role in the defense against opportunistic infections. Multiple factors are linked to vitamin D status; and a growing number of dermatologic diseases has been linked to vitamin D status such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, vitiligo, and cutaneous cancers. In this article, we reviewed the potential determinants of vitamin D status, as its implications in dermatologic diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitamin D is considered a regulator of the immune system, and its polymorphisms have been associated with psoriasis in some but not all reports. AIM To explore whether vitamin D receptor (VDR) polymorphisms are associated with susceptibility to psoriasis. METHODS Meta-analyses were conducted to determine the associations between psoriasis and the VDR ApaI, TaqI, BsmI and FokI polymorphisms in all participants, and stratified by ethnic group. RESULTS In total, 16 studies on VDR polymorphisms and psoriasis were included in this meta-analysis, which involved 2086 patients and 2182 controls. The meta-analysis indicated an association between psoriasis and the VDR TaqI TT genotype in Caucasian (OR = 1.29, 95% CI = 1.00-1.66, P < 0.05), but not in Asian (OR = 1.32, 95% CI = 0.89-1.96, P = 0.16) populations. However, no association was found between psoriasis and the VDR TaqI polymorphism using dominant, allele contrast or homozygous contrast models. No association was found between psoriasis and either the VDR ApaI, BsmI or FokI polymorphisms by meta-analyses of the allele contrast, recessive, or dominant models or homozygous contrast models in the overall, Caucasian or Asian populations. CONCLUSION This meta-analysis showed that polymorphisms in VDR ApaI, BsmI and FokI are not associated with psoriasis susceptibility in overall, Caucasian or Asian populations. However, the VDR TaqI polymorphism is associated with psoriasis susceptibility in Caucasian populations.

Abstract
During evolution, the ability of many organisms to synthesize vitamin D photochemically represented, and still represents, a major driving factor for the development of life on earth. In humans because not more than 10-20% of the requirement of vitamin D can be satisfied by the diet (under most living conditions in the US and Europe), the remaining 80-90% need to be photochemically synthesized in the skin through the action of solar or artificial ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation. The skin is a key organ of the human body's vitamin D endocrine system (VDES), representing both the site of vitamin D synthesis and a target tissue for biologically active vitamin D metabolites. Human keratinocytes contain the enzymatic machinery (CYP27B1) for the synthesis of the biologically most active natural vitamin D metabolite 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3), representing an autonomous vitamin D3 pathway. Cutaneous production of 1,25(OH)2D3 may mediate intracrine, autocrine and paracrine effects on keratinocytes and on neighboring cells. Many skin cells (including keratinocytes, sebocytes, fibroblasts, melanocytes, macrophages and other skin immune cells) express the vitamin D receptor (VDR), an absolute pre-requisite for exerting genomic effects of 1,25(OH)2D3 and analogs. The VDR is a member of the superfamily of trans-acting transcriptional regulatory factors, which also contains the steroid and thyroid hormone receptors as well as the retinoid-X receptors (RXR) and retinoic acid receptors (RAR). A large body of evidence, including cDNA microarray analyses of mRNAs, indicates that as many as 500-1000 genes may be controlled by VDR ligands that regulate a broad variety of cellular functions including growth, differentiation, and apoptosis. Clinical and laboratory investigations, including the observation that 1,25(OH)2D3 is very effective in inducing the terminal differentiation and in inhibiting the proliferation of cultured human keratinocytes have resulted in the use of 1,25(OH)2D3 and analogs for the treatment of psoriasis. Focussing on the UV-induced cutaneous synthesis of vitamin D, this review gives an update on the relevance of the VDES and of UV radiation for the management of psoriasis and other inflammatory skin diseases.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a genetically-regulated, T lymphocyte-mediated autoimmune skin disease that causes systemic damage, seriously affecting patient quality of life and survival. Psoriasis treatments, which aim to control the disease’s development, are greatly limited because its etiology and pathogenesis have not yet been fully elucidated. A large number of studies have demonstrated that immunogenetic elements are the most important factors responsible for psoriasis susceptibility. This paper delineates the immunogenetic mechanisms of psoriasis and provides useful information with regards to performing drug repositioning for the treatment of psoriasis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) is a degenerative disorder of the neck. Recent studies have reported the roles of single nucleotide polymorphisms and abnormal gene expression in the etiology and development of CSM. However, a systemic review of these findings is currently unavailable. METHODS A systemic review of genetic factors of CSM was conducted through searching PubMed and EMbase databases. A total of 9 studies were included in this study, which included 8 genes: brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), osteopontin (OPN), bone morphogenic protein (BMP) 4, collagen IX, vitamin D receptor (VDR), apolipoprotein E (ApoE), hypoxia-inducible factor α (HIF-1α), and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2). RESULTS The polymorphisms of 6 genes (OPN, BMP-4, collagen IX, VDR, HIF-1α) showed significant association with the susceptibility to or risk of CSM. The polymorphisms of 3 genes (BMP-4, ApoE4, HIF-1α) were significantly associated with the postoperative outcome. The polymorphism of BDNF, VDR, and expression of COX-2 were associated with the severity of disease. CONCLUSION This review demonstrates that 8 genes were associated with CSM although there is no repeated study. This review also suggests that large scale and high quality studies are needed to provide more reliable evidence for future evaluation.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease. Psoriasis lesions are characterized by hyper-proliferation of epidermal keratinocytes associated with inflammatory cellular infiltrate in both dermis and epidermis. The epidermis is the natural source of vitamin D synthesis by sunlight action. Recently, a role for vitamin D in the pathogenesis of different skin diseases, including psoriasis, has been reported. Indeed, significant associations between low vitamin D status and psoriasis have been systematically observed. Due to its role in proliferation and maturation of keratinocytes, vitamin D has become an important local therapeutic option in the treatment of psoriasis. To date, the successful treatment based on adequate dietary intake of vitamin D or oral vitamin D supplementation in psoriasis represent an unmet clinical need and the evidence of its beneficial effects remains still controversial. This information is important either for Dermatologists and Nutritionists to increases the knowledge on the possible bi-directional relationships between low vitamin D status and psoriasis and on the potential usefulness of vitamin D in psoriasis with the aim not only to reduce its clinical severity, but also for delineating the risk profile for co-morbidities cardiac risk factors that may result from psoriasis. In the current review, we analyzed the possible bi-directional links between psoriatic disease and vitamin D.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The physiological role of vitamin D extends beyond bone health and calcium-phosphate homeostasis to effects on cancer risk, mainly for colorectal cancer. Vitamin D may have an anticancer effect in colorectal cancer mediated by binding of the active form 1,25(OH)2D to the vitamin D receptor (VDR). The Taq1 VDR gene polymorphism, a C-to-T base substitution (rs731236) in exon 9 may influence its expression and function. The aim of this study was to determine the 25(OH)D vitamin D level and to investigate the association between circulating vitamin D level and Taq1VDR gene polymorphism among Jordanian colorectal cancer patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS This case control study enrolled ninety-three patients and one hundred and two healthy Jordanian volunteers from AL-Basheer Hospital/Amman (2012-2013). Ethical approval and signed consent forms were obtained from all participants before sample collection. 25(OH)D levels were determined by competitive immunoassay Elecsys (Roche Diagnostic, France). DNA was extracted (Promega, USA) and amplified by PCR followed by VDR Taq1 restriction enzyme digestion. The genotype distribution was evaluated by paired t-test and chi-square. Comparison between vitamin D levels among CRC and control were assessed by odds ratio with 95% confidence interval. RESULTS The vitamin D serum level was significantly lower among colorectal cancer patients (8.34 ng/ml) compared to the healthy control group (21.02 ng/ml). Patients deficient in vitamin D (less than 10.0 ng/ml) had increased colorectal cancer risk 19.2 fold compared to control. Only 2.2% of CRC patients had optimal vitamin D compared to 23.5% among healthy control. TT, Tt and tt Taq1 genotype frequencies among CRC cases was 35.5%, 50.5% and 14% compared to 43.1%, 41.2% and 15.7% among healthy control; respectively. CRC patients had lower mean vitamin D level among TT (8.91 ± 4.31) and Tt (9.15 ± 5.25) genotypes compared to control ((21.3 ± 8.31) and (19.3 ± 7.68); respectively. CONCLUSIONS There is significant association between low 25(OH)D serum level and colorectal cancer risk. The VDRTaq1 polymorphism was associated with increased colorectal cancer risk among patient with VDRTaq1 TT and Tt genotypes. Understanding the functional mechanism of VDRTaq1 TT and Tt may provide a strategy for colorectal cancer prevention and treatment.

Abstract
Association of vitamin D receptor (VDR) BsmI (rs1544410) gene polymorphism with the intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) level among patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) from the published reports is still conflicting. This meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the relationship between VDR BsmI (rs1544410) gene polymorphism and the iPTH level among patients with ESRD. The association studies were identified from PubMed, and Cochrane Library on 1 March 2014, and eligible investigations were included and synthesized using meta-analysis method. Six reports were recruited into this meta-analysis for the association of VDR BsmI gene polymorphism with iPTH level among patients with ESRD. In this meta-analysis, the iPTH level in ESRD patients carrying BsmI Bb genotype was higher than that in ESRD patients carrying bb genotype in overall populations (Bb versus bb: OR = 61.40, 95% CI: 19.65-103.16, p = 0.004). However, the iPTH level in ESRD patients carrying BB genotype was not significant different from that in ESRD patients with Bb genotype and bb genotype in overall populations (BB versus Bb: OR = -18.30, 95% CI: -126.28-89.69, p = 0.74; BB versus bb: OR = 22.85, 95% CI: -70.81-116.51, p = 0.63). Furthermore, the results for Caucasians were similar to those in overall populations. In conclusion, the iPTH level in ESRD patients carrying BsmI Bb genotype was higher than that in ESRD patients carrying bb genotype in overall populations and in Caucasians. However, more studies should be conducted to confirm it.
