Abstract
BACKGROUND Mentorship is a mutually beneficial voluntary relationship between mentor and mentee. In principle, the mentee trusts in the mentor for guiding career development and acquiring new knowledge and skills while the mentor finds giving back to the profession rewarding. Mentorship is beneficial at every career stage, but little is known about current programs and processes. OBJECTIVE To review the literature about mentorship in allied health to inform programs and practices in occupational therapy. Scoping focused on barriers, facilitators and reported outcomes of programs and attributes of mentors and mentees. DATA SOURCES A search was applied to six databases on 8 February 2022 in Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid Embase, Scopus, PUBMED and CINAHL Complete. Search terms were developed in consultation with an academic librarian and using the population, concept and context mnemonic. METHODS We used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) and the JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis. Data extraction forms were piloted with two reviewers and dual extraction occurred with a portion of papers. Where conflicts arose, discussion occurred until a consensus was reached. FINDINGS Sixty-two papers were included from eleven countries. The papers arose from ten allied health disciplines, with five in occupational therapy. One-on-one mentoring was most common followed by groups and the use of online platforms. Structured approaches were often used, with the support of professional associations. Trust and willingness to share expertise were required attributes of mentors. Mentees appreciate self-selecting their mentor and having protected time for mentorship. CONCLUSION AND SIGNIFICANCE This synthesis provides a description of the available literature on mentorship in allied health. Benefits of mentorship were recorded with the acquisition of skills and knowledge being the most prominent. This synthesis provides ideas for future development and refinement of mentorship in occupational therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND While evidence supports interprofessional primary care models that include pharmacists, the extent to which pharmacists are working in primary care and the factors associated with colocation is unknown. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to analyze the physical colocation of pharmacists with primary care providers (PCPs) and examine predictors associated with colocation. RESEARCH DESIGN This is a retrospective cross-sectional study of pharmacists and PCPs with individual National Provider Identifiers in the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System's database. Pharmacist and PCP practice addresses of the health care professionals were geocoded, and distances less than 0.1 miles were considered physically colocated. SUBJECTS In all, 502,373 physicians and 221,534 pharmacists were included. RESULTS When excluding hospital-based pharmacists, 1 in 10 (11%) pharmacists were colocated with a PCP. Pharmacists in urban settings were more likely to be colocated than those in rural areas (OR=1.32, CI: 1.26-1.38). Counties with the highest proportion of licensed pharmacists per 100,000 people in the county had higher colocation (OR=1.38, CI: 1.32-1.45). Colocation was significantly higher in states with an expanded scope of practice (OR 1.37, CI: 1.32-1.42) and those that have expanded Medicaid (OR 1.07, CI: 1.03-1.11). Colocated pharmacists more commonly worked in larger physician practices. CONCLUSION Although including pharmacists on primary care teams improves clinical outcomes, reduces health care costs, and enhances patient and provider experience, colocation appears to be unevenly dispersed across the United States, with lower rates in rural areas. As the integration of pharmacists in primary care continues to expand, knowing the prevalence and facilitators of growth will be helpful to policymakers, researchers, and clinical administrators.

Abstract
Patient experience is considered an important dimension of health care quality and thus is included as part of the quadruple aim of health care. The VHA Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP) operates as an advanced practice provider (APP) providing comprehensive medication management (CMM) with authority to initiate, discontinue or modify medication under a scope of practice (SOP). The VHA CPP practices in many different outpatient clinical areas to include but not limited to primary care, mental health, pain management, cardiology, substance use disorder and anticoagulation. While literature regarding the ability of the VHA CPP to increase access and quality of care is well published, very little information exist regarding patient experience with the VHA CPP. We sought to report the patient experience with VHA CPP as measured electronically over 1 year by Veterans. Patient experience surveys were electronically sent to randomly selected Veterans via email to evaluate a recent outpatient healthcare encounter at a VA medical center or outpatient clinic with a CPP with scoring on a Likert scale of 1-5 with 5 being optimal. A total of 743 Veteran surveys were completed for a response rate of 20%. For individual domains of patient experience based on respondent scores of 4 or 5, ease and simplicity were rated at 94.4%, quality 91.9%, employee helpfulness 94.9%, satisfaction 95.0% and confidence/trust 91.9%. Results demonstrate that Veterans' experience with the CPP in every patient care experience domain was positive with scores ranging from the low to high 90th percentile.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate whether clinical pharmacist practitioners (CPPs) are being utilized to care for patients with complex medication regimens and multiple chronic illnesses, we compared the clinical complexity of diabetes patients referred to CPPs in team primary care and those in care by other team providers (OTPs). METHODS In this cross-sectional comparison of patients with diabetes in the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system in the 2017-2019 period, patient complexity was based on clinical factors likely to indicate need for more time and resources in medication and disease state management. These factors include insulin prescriptions; use of 3 or more other diabetes medication classes; use of 6 or more other medication classes; 5 or more vascular complications; metabolic complications; 8 or more other complex chronic conditions; chronic kidney disease stage 3b or higher; glycated hemoglobin level of ≥10%; and medication regime nonadherence. RESULTS Patients with diabetes referred to one of 110 CPPs for care (n = 12,728) scored substantially higher (P < 0.001) than patients with diabetes in care with one of 544 OTPs (n = 81,183) on every complexity measure, even after adjustment for age, sex, race, and marital status. Based on composite summary scores, the likelihood of complexity was 3.42 (interquartile range, 3.25-3.60) times higher for those in ongoing CPP care (ie, those with 2 or more visits) versus OTP care. Patients in CPP care also were, on average, younger, more obese, and had more prior outpatient visits and hospital stays. CONCLUSION The greater complexity of patients with diabetes seen by CPPs in primary care suggests that CPPs are providing valuable services in comprehensive medication and disease management of complex patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE This descriptive review aims to describe the impact of controlled substance prescriptive authority (CSPA) among Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)-registered clinical pharmacist practitioners (pharmacists) within the Veterans Health Administration (VA). The practice perspectives of pharmacists with CSPA are also reviewed. A 3-part methodology included identification and query of DEA-registered pharmacists, practice impact data analysis, and time and motion prescribing analysis. SUMMARY Between quarter 1 of fiscal year 2018 and quarter 2 of fiscal year 2022, the number of DEA-registered pharmacists in the VA grew by 314%, from 21 to 87 pharmacists. Pharmacists in pain management and mental health reported benefits of CSPA, with the most common being practice autonomy (93%), increased efficiency (92%), and reduced burden on other prescribers (89%). Initial challenges to pharmacists obtaining DEA registration included a lack of incentive (46%) and concern about increased liability (37%). A time and motion analysis demonstrated that pharmacists with CSPA saved a median of 12 minutes for prescription writing compared to those without CSPA. CONCLUSION There is an opportunity for DEA-registered pharmacists to meet patient care needs to fill gaps in care from physician shortages, improve health equity, and provide quality healthcare for vulnerable, underserved populations, especially in areas where controlled substance prescribing is common. To fully optimize the role of the pharmacist, it is imperative that state practice acts be expanded to include pharmacist DEA authority as part of collaborative practice and that fair and equitable payment models be established for pharmacist comprehensive medication management.
