Abstract
BACKGROUND Solitary fibroous tumors (SFTs) are distinctive soft tissue tumors characterized by rearrangements of NAB2-STAT6 gene, which are associated with thin-walled, branching, "staghorn"-shaped vessels. SFTs are originally classified as a type of hemangiopericytoma (HPC). Classical SFTs are composed of spindle to ovoid cells arranged haphazardly or in fascicles. Rarely, SFTs exhibit unusual morphological variants such as fat formation, giant cells, dedifferentiation, or epithelioid variant. The epithelioid cell variant, which is composed almost entirely of epithelioid cells and arranged in solid or nest patterns, is extremely rare and frequently malignant. CASE PRESENTATION In this study, we reported three cases of epithelioid SFTs (ESFTs) located in extrathoracic sites (right lateral ventricle, right lumbar, left pelvis). All the subjects in this study were elderly, with a predominance of female patients, accounting for two out of the three cases, and only one case involved a male patient. The tumor cells were entirely composed of epithelioid cells and exhibited positive for CD34 and STAT-6 markers. Ultimately, the majority of cases (two out of three) were diagnosed as malignant SFTs. CONCLUSION This study aims to enhance the awareness of ESFTs. In these cases, irrespective of the onset location, the arrangement patterns of tumor cells, such as papillary structures and the morphology of epithelial-like cells, conspicuously lack the hallmark histological characteristics of Solitary Fibrous Tumors (SFTs). Consequently, it requires differential diagnosis from a plethora of malignant neoplasms. Moreover, the elevated malignancy level of this cohort of cases poses substantial diagnostic challenges to pathologists, compounding the complexity of accurate interpretation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND SFTs are thought to have an unpredictable clinical course and currently have no recognized prognostic criterion. Our study aimed to determine the relationship between clinicopathological characteristics and the prognosis of patients with orbital SFTs. METHODS The clinicopathological features of these patients were extracted from clinical records. The relationships between these features and prognosis were analysed. RESULTS The positive rates of CD34, CD99, Blc2, and STAT6 expression were 90.3%, 90.3%, 83.9%, and 100%, respectively. The tumour recurrence rate was 38.7%. A higher recurrence rate was observed in patients with Ki67 index ≥ 5 (56.25% vs. 20%, P = 0.038). CONCLUSION A Ki67 index ≥ 5 was an effective parameter for predicting tumour recurrence of orbital SFTs. Close follow-up is needed for these patients.

Abstract
Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare mesenchymal tumors that can occur at any location. Since the identification of specific NAB2-STAT6 fusion in SFTs, the fusion gene variants, NAB2 exon 4-STAT6 exon 2/3 and NAB2 exon 5/6/7-STAT6 exon 16/17/18, have been reported to be associated with clinicopathological features, and the latter variant is predominant in meningeal SFTs. SFTs developing in the salivary glands are rare, and more rarely, those involving ectopic salivary glands (ESGs) have been reported in the cerebellopontine angle (CPA); however, their characteristics remain not well understood. In this study, we performed a clinicopathological and molecular analysis of 3 cases of meningeal SFT with ESGs. All cases presented with an extra-axial mass in the CPA, which is a rarer location for intracranial ESGs compared to the sellar region. Histologically, except for the presence of ESGs, there was no significant difference between current cases and ordinary SFTs. The ESGs demonstrated no cellular atypia, and although the spindle tumor cells were immunopositive for STAT6, the ESGs were negative in all cases, supporting that the ESGs are non-neoplastic components. In 1 case, ESGs were found only in the primary tumor and disappeared in recurrence/dissemination. Of note, molecular analysis identified NAB2 exon 4-STAT6 exon 2 in all cases. In conclusion, our results suggest that ESGs particularly in the CPA may be associated with SFTs and that meningeal SFTs with ESGs may be associated with the minor fusion variant of NAB2-STAT6 in the intracranial lesions.

Abstract
BackgroundSolitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare spindle cell neoplasm that mostly originates from the pleura, and accounts for only 2% of all soft tissue tumors. Moreover, the cases of SFT of the kidney are rarely reported. Here, we report a typical case of kidney SFT, which was consistent with other reported cases. This case further expands on existing diagnostic methods of SFT and explains the importance of STAT6 mutations in SFT.Case SummaryWe report a typical case of SFT of the kidney. A 34-year-old woman presented to the urinary surgery department after physical examinations were suggestive of a urologic neoplasm. Further relevant imaging investigations suggested a renal tumor with benign behaviors. The patient was diagnosed with a kidney tumor suspected to be SFT and underwent laparoscopic radical left nephrectomy. Postoperative pathological immunohistochemical tests showed positivity for Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 6(STAT6), CD-34, CD-99, and Bcl-2, thus confirming the diagnosis of SFT. Combined with the results of genetic testing of the patient, the tumor was indicated to carry NGFI-A-Binding protein 2(NAB2): exon 6—STAT6: exon 16 mutation sites, which confirmed our diagnosis. The patient recovered quickly without any clinical evidence of incomplete resection. She has been followed-up for more than a year and will continue to be reviewed every three months to observe the final outcomes.ConclusionSolitary fibrous tumor is difficult to differentiate from other renal tumors. CT imaging, STAT6 immunostaining and gene profiling are valid investigations to establish the diagnosis.

Abstract
All solitary fibrous tumors (SFT), now histologically diagnosed by a positive nuclear STAT6 immunostaining, represent less than 2% of soft tissue sarcomas, with spinal SFT constituting a maximum of 2% of them, making these tumors extremely rare. We provide an up-to-date overview of their diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. We included 10 primary STAT6-positive SFT from our retrospective cohort and 31 from a systematic review. Spinal pain was the most common symptom, in 69% of patients, and the only one in 34%, followed by spinal cord compression in 41%, radicular compression, including pain or deficit, in 36%, and urinary dysfunction specifically in 18%. Preoperative diagnosis was never obtained. Gross total resection was achieved in 71%, in the absence of spinal cord invasion or excessive bleeding. Histologically, they were 35% grade I, 25% grade II, and 40% grade III. Recurrence was observed in 43% after a mean 5.8 years (1 to 25). No significant risk factor was identified, but adjuvant radiotherapy improved the recurrence-free survival after subtotal resection. In conclusion, spinal SFT must be treated by neurosurgeons as part of a multidisciplinary team. Owing to their close relationship with the spinal cord, radiotherapy should be considered when gross total resection cannot be achieved, to lower the risk of recurrence.

Abstract
A wide variety of benign and malignant tumors can arise from different structures in the orbital and peri-orbital area, affecting the eye and the optic nerve. This spectrum of tumors includes primary and metastatic carcinomas, lymphomas, melanomas, soft tissue tumors, and primary tumors of the retina, optic disc, and optic nerve. These also extend to relatively rare entities such as solitary fibrous tumor and meningioma of the orbit and optic nerve, which can present with very similar clinical and radiologic features, although the tumor grades, treatment plans, and outcomes can vary widely. In this report, we present two clinical cases of solitary fibrous tumor [central nervous system (CNS) World Health Organization (WHO) grade 2 and 3) and compare their clinical presentation, radiologic and histologic features, treatment, and clinical outcomes to a group of three orbital meningiomas (CNS WHO grade 1 and 2). In the context of these five cases of orbital lesions, we review the current clinical, pathologic, and radiologic literature on orbital tumors, focusing primarily on solitary fibrous tumors and meningiomas, along with an expanded discussion on the diagnostic criteria of both entities, as well as the treatment and prognosis of these lesions.
