Abstract
The ‘off licence’ use of drugs is common in the UK. One such use is the
treatment of bipolar disorder with sodium valproate. This paper reviews the
evidence for using the licensed alternative, valproate semisodium, under the
headings of licence, efficacy, pharmacokinetics and tolerability.
