Abstract
Hepatic mucormycosis is a disease caused by a ubiquitous fungus which is especially important in patients with hematologic malignancies. We present a case of an adult patient with acute myeloid leukemia who developed the infection after undergoing chemotherapy. His successful management was an integrated approach of a minimally invasive surgical resection with anti-fungal therapy. We describe the management of this patient and a review of the literature.

Abstract
Mucormycosis generally develops under immunocompromised conditions, including hematological malignancies and solid organ or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Although mucormycosis usually affects the lungs and paranasal sinuses, sporadic cases of invasive mucormycosis of the liver have been reported. We hereby report a patient with myelofibrosis who developed hepatic mucormycosis diagnosed by post-mortem examination. An extensive literature review identified 13 reported cases of hepatic mucormycosis, including ours, without lung involvement. Most of the underlying diseases or conditions were hematological malignancies and solid organ transplantation. Three cases had splenic lesions and four had gastrointestinal lesions, suggesting the possibility of translocation to the liver and/or spleen from the gastrointestinal tracts. Hepatic mucormycosis should be recognized as one of the presentations of invasive mucormycosis, especially when hepatic nodules are found in immunocompromised patients such as those with hematological malignancy or recipients of solid organ transplantation.

Abstract
We present a case of hepatic mucormycosis in a 9-year-old boy with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Despite long-term use of combined liposomal amphotericin B and posaconazole therapy, the lesion persisted and could only be treated by surgical excision. After surgery, antifungal treatment was continued with posaconazole. On follow-up, the patient had two episodes of ascending cholangitis which were responsive to intravenous antibiotics. He is doing well at the moment in remission for 2.5 years. Mucormycosis was long regarded as a fatal infection with poor prognosis. With early medical and surgical management, survival rates increase. Isolated hepatic mucormycosis is rare and only seven cases were reported in the literature up to now. We wanted to emphasise the role of early surgery in patients with hepatic mucormycosis in view of the literature.

Abstract
Mucormycosis of the gastrointestinal tract is a rare infection that usually occurs in patients who are immunocompromised and carries a high mortality. We report four cases of gastrointestinal mucormycosis seen over a one year period with different presentations, risk factors and different anatomical sites of involvement. A preoperative diagnosis was made only in one patient. All underwent surgery, three survived and one died postoperatively from multiorgan failure.

Abstract
Invasive zygomycosis is a devastating fungal infection seen mostly in immune-compromised patients. We present a case of a 48-year old diabetic man, with aplastic anemia, who developed severe pulmonary mucormycosis that led to his rapid demise despite early diagnosis and treatment with liposomal amphotericin B. We also conducted an extensive review of the pathogenesis of invasive zygomycosis, its history, predisposing factors, clinical aspects, diagnostic modalities, treatment options, morbidity and mortality.
