Abstract
Hormonal variations occurring throughout the female reproductive cycle have a significant impact on physical and mental health, particularly due to the influence of estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4). These changes are directly related to alterations in neurological systems, being associated with conditions such as premenstrual syndrome (PMS), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), and mood disorders during hormonal transition phases, such as perimenopause and menopause. Studies conducted in humans and animal models indicate that these fluctuations affect neurotransmitters, neural plasticity, and patterns of brain activity, ultimately influencing quality of life and mental health. Despite extensive research on the topic, the interactions between sex hormones, mental health, and reproductive aging still require further investigation, emphasizing approaches that simultaneously address experimental and behavioral aspects. Thus, this review aims to sumarize findings about the influence of hormonal fluctuations throughout the female reproductive lifespan, including transitions such as perimenopause and menopause, on mental health. A comparative analysis of data from studies in animal models and humans was conducted, highlighting neuroendocrine, behavioral, and emotional mechanisms associated with hormonal changes and their impacts on female mental health.

Abstract
Objective: To estimate the prevalence of diagnosed vasomotor symptoms (VMS) due to menopause among US women aged 40-64 years and assess sociodemographic differences in VMS prevalence and risk of discontinuing VMS-related treatment. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study evaluated merged data from IQVIA's PharMetrics Plus medical claims and consumer attributes databases for 2017-2020. VMS diagnosis was identified using International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) diagnosis codes. Continuous enrollment was required ≥6 months before and 12 months after diagnosis date. Treatment discontinuation was measured for VMS-related treatments initiated at diagnosis or during the 12 months after diagnosis. Treatment duration was measured from diagnosis to the first day of a ≥90-day treatment gap. A Cox proportional hazards model was used to determine factors associated with risk of treatment discontinuation. Results: Among 7,386,206 eligible women, the 4-year prevalence of diagnosed VMS in 2017-2020 was 79.1 per 1,000 and was highest among non-Hispanic White women (82.5 per 1,000), followed by Hispanic (77.3), Black (71.6), and Asian women (64.5). Rates were higher among women living in urban areas and those with higher education and income. Among women newly diagnosed with VMS (n = 226,262), median treatment duration was 297 days. Black, Asian, and Hispanic women had higher risks of discontinuing treatment than non-Hispanic White women. Lower income was also associated with higher risk of discontinuation than higher income. Conclusion: Lower prevalence of diagnosed VMS and higher risk of treatment discontinuation were observed among racial/ethnic minorities and women with less education and income, suggesting possible underdiagnosis and unmet needs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence of postmenopausal vasomotor symptoms (VMS) and the impact of VMS and related treatment patterns among perimenopausal and postmenopausal Canadian women. METHODS A subgroup analysis of data from a cross-sectional online survey of women aged 40-65 years conducted November 4, 2021, through January 17, 2022, evaluated the prevalence of moderate/severe VMS among postmenopausal Canadian women. The analysis also assessed survey responses from perimenopausal and postmenopausal Canadian women with moderate/severe VMS who completed the Menopause-Specific Quality of Life questionnaire, Work Productivity and Activity Impairment questionnaire, and the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Sleep Disturbances-Short Form 8b and answered questions about treatment patterns and attitudes toward treatments. RESULTS Of 2,456 Canadian postmenopausal women, 360 (14.7%; primary analysis) reported moderate/severe VMS in the previous month. Perimenopausal and postmenopausal women with moderate/severe VMS (n = 400; secondary analysis) reported negative impact on overall quality of life (mean total Menopause-Specific Quality of Life questionnaire score: 4.3/8). VMS impaired overall work and daily activities by 30.2% and 35.7%, respectively. Overall mean (SD) Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Sleep Disturbance-Short Form 8b score (scale 8-40) was 28.5 (6.9), confirming sleep disturbances in this population. The majority of women (88% of the total cohort) sought advice, but about half were never treated. Most women had positive or neutral attitudes toward menopause. CONCLUSIONS In a survey conducted in Canada, moderate/severe VMS were reported by 14.7% of postmenopausal women and were associated with impairment in quality of life, work productivity, daily activities, and sleep in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women.

Abstract
Background An essential part of aging is menopause, which indicates the final phase of the female reproductive cycle. The objective of this research was to assess anxiety and depressive symptoms among menopausal women in Asir region, Saudi Arabia. Methods The cross-sectional survey was carried out in February to June 2024, using a random sampling procedure, study participants were selected. All menopausal women including <50 and ≥60 years old, were included, and symptoms of depression and anxiety were collected using Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) respectively. Results Of the 396 menopausal women, the majority 170 (42.9%) were <50 years old and 92 (23.2%) were between 50 and 54 years old. Two hundred eighty-one were married (71%) and 273 (68.9%) were literate. Most of them, 229 (57.8%) got married at <18 years and 196 (49.5%) have a parity of 3-5 and 189 (47.7%) women attained menopause at <50 years old. In terms of menopausal symptoms, 268 (67.7%) women experienced hot flushes; 252 (63.6%) had night sweats and were more irritable 256 (64.6%) followed by 244 (61.6%) had decreased sexual desire. In general, 258 (65.2%) and 206 (52.02%) menopausal women reported having depression and anxiety symptoms, respectively. Married (OR = 0.317; 95% CI = 0.182-0.551, p = 0.000) and literate (OR = 0.518; 95% CI = 0.309-0.868, p = 0.013) are less likely to be in depression compared to widowed/separated individuals. Literates (OR = 0.271; 95% CI = 0.165-0.443, p = 0.000), are less likely to have anxiety compared to illiterates. Conclusion The study found that a significant percentage of menopausal women had depression and anxiety symptoms. These results emphasize the significance of screening and assessing women experiencing anxiety and depression symptoms throughout the menopausal transition. To alleviate menopausal symptoms, it is also suggested to conduct activities to educate menopausal women, such as a health awareness program in shopping centers and other public places, etc.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Vasomotor symptoms (VMS) due to menopause cause substantial burden and distress. Some women join online communities to share experiences and treatment outcomes through peer-to-peer interactions. This study describes women's experiences with VMS and symptom management on the PatientsLikeMe online support group. METHODS Mixed-methods research included women aged 40 to 65 years in the PatientsLikeMe community who were recruited using convenience sampling. Text from online posts by members was analyzed retrospectively using natural language processing. Relevant data, including numbers and percentages of women and frequencies of mentions, were summarized descriptively. Qualitative semistructured interviews were conducted; data, notes, and recordings were transcribed and deidentified and thematic analyses were performed. RESULTS Demographic information was available from 1,614 accounts included in retrospective text analyses. Women had a mean age of 56.7 years; most were White (87.8%) and not Hispanic/Latino (90.2%). Hot flashes and night sweats were most commonly mentioned symptoms (n = 146). Of 16 women who were interviewed, 14 met the inclusion criteria, and their responses were included in the analysis. VMS impacted life quality in terms of physical (43%) and mental well-being (36%), social activities (21%), and productivity (14%). Symptom management included temperature regulation (43%), lifestyle changes (36%), over-the-counter Estroven (29%), hormone therapy (21%), and contraceptives (21%). Half of the women were surprised by symptom intensity and duration; many felt unheard by their healthcare providers. CONCLUSIONS VMS have a substantial negative impact on multiple aspects of women's life. Management strategies for these symptoms vary widely, and many women feel unprepared for navigating the complex challenges of menopause.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to document the prevalence and severity of vasomotor symptoms (VMS) and sexual symptoms among refugee women in Melbourne, Australia. METHODS This cross-sectional study included refugee women, aged 18-63 years, recruited from community centers and social media between February and July 2023. The Menopause-specific Quality of Life (MENQOL) questionnaire measured VMS and sexual symptoms. The scores were compared between different menopausal states. RESULTS Of 333 participants, 62.8% were premenopausal, 8.0% perimenopausal and 29.2% postmenopausal, with a median age of 40 years (range 18-63 years). Moderate-severe VMS was most prevalent amongst perimenopausal (20.8%; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 8.9-41.4%) versus postmenopausal (9.5%; 95% CI: 5.0-17.3%) and premenopausal (0%) women. Moderate-severe sexual symptoms affected 15.8% (95% CI: 5.2-39.3%) of perimenopausal and 16.9% (95% CI: 10.4-26.1%) of postmenopausal women versus 1.4% (95% CI: 0.3-5.3%) of premenopausal women. Perimenopausal and postmenopausal women had higher VMS and sexual symptom scores than premenopausal women (both p < 0.0001); the scores were also higher in perimenopausal women than postmenopausal women (p = 0.016 and p = 0.013, respectively). CONCLUSION While perimenopausal and postmenopausal VMS and sexual symptoms are not uncommon amongst refugee women, these symptoms were less prevalent in postmenopausal refugees than in the non-refugee population. Further research is warranted to confirm and expand on these findings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Previous studies have assessed potential risk factors for vasomotor symptoms (VMS) beginning in midlife. We examined whether early adulthood risk factors predict VMS trajectories over time. METHODS We performed a secondary data analysis of the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) study, a population-based cohort. We included women who answered questions about VMS at three or more examinations (n = 1,966). We examined whether risk factors at baseline (when participants were aged 18-30 y; average age, 25 y) and the year 15 (Y15) exam (at ages 33-45 y; average age, 40 y) were associated with VMS trajectories from Y15 through Y35. Logistic regression models were used to evaluate the associations with VMS trajectories. RESULTS We identified three trajectories of VMS presence: minimal (40%), increasing over time (27%), and persistent (33%). Baseline factors associated with persistent VMS over time included Black race, less than a high school education, depressive symptoms, migraines, cigarette use, and at Y15 hysterectomy. Baseline factors associated with increasing VMS over time included Black race and lower body mass index. Risk factors for bothersome VMS were similar and also included thyroid disease, although thyroid disease was not associated with persistence of VMS over time. Associations were similar among women who had not undergone hysterectomy and in Black and White women. CONCLUSIONS Risk factors for VMS may be identified in early adulthood. Further examination of risk factors such as migraines and depressive symptoms in early adulthood may be helpful in identifying therapies for VMS.
