Abstract
This study investigated the use of group body mapping as a methodological tool to explore experiences of obstetric violence among migrant women from Senegal, Morocco, and Pakistan in Catalonia. The research aimed to assess the effectiveness of group body mapping in identifying the barriers these women faced during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, while also highlighting the intersectional dimensions of obstetric violence. The study identified seven key codes-Issues/Barriers, Trust, Gender, Body/Embodiment, Significant Relationships, Employment, and Gender-Based Violence-which were analyzed from an intersectional perspective. Group body mapping was presented as an effective strategy to visualize structural and invisible barriers, offering a deeper understanding of the sociocultural dynamics that affected migrant women's access to and experience of sexual and reproductive health services. This technique complemented traditional research methods by capturing complex narratives and revealing systemic structures tied to social status, gender, religion, language, and age. It empowered women to reclaim agency over their experiences within historically medicalized and colonized healthcare systems. Ultimately, the research highlighted the transformative potential of group body mapping in advancing healthcare equity and promoting culturally and gender-sensitive sexual and reproductive health services for marginalized populations.

Abstract
Abstract Dyspareunia, or pain during sex, is a common and often debilitating symptom in individuals with endometriosis and/or interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS). Despite its significant impact on quality of life, it is frequently overlooked in research. This review evaluates how dyspareunia has been addressed in preclinical investigations of these conditions. A systematic search was conducted using Embase from 1998 to 2021, identifying original in vivo preclinical studies using female rodents to model (i) endometriosis and (ii) IC/BPS. The search aimed to identify studies that assessed dyspareunia. Study quality and risk of bias were evaluated using a modified CAMARADES checklist. Our analysis found 1,286 studies modelling endometriosis and 674 modelling IC/BPS, but only 18 and 1, respectively, measured dyspareunia. The most common method involved vaginal distention in rats, assessed by either behavioural escape responses or visceromotor reflexes of abdominal muscles. Despite the high prevalence of dyspareunia in these conditions, it is rarely measured in preclinical studies. We identify a significant gap in the literature and offer succinct recommendations for future translational research to address this important symptom. Lay summary Dyspareunia describes pain occurring before, during or after sexual intercourse. This poorly understood symptom is particularly common in people suffering from two chronic pain-related conditions: endometriosis and IC/BPS, severely impacting their quality of life. Therefore, effective treatments addressing painful sex in people with these conditions are needed. To see the benefits of medical research at the patient's bedside, it is important to build from basic science research to preclinical animal studies then to human studies. Our study aims to assess the work that has been done so far at the 'preclinical' stage. Developments have been made in the methodology used to investigate this symptom in animals, and a summary of all the key findings may help build a platform to design future studies. Given the urgent need to develop new therapeutic strategies, attention given to painful sex by scientific medical researchers and physicians needs to improve.

Abstract
Endometriosis is a common, chronic, incurable condition the hallmark of which is the presence of lesions (tissue resembling endometrium) in sites outside the womb, with symptoms including chronic debilitating pain and fatigue. However, current therapeutic options are limited. Recent advances in our understanding of the mechanisms that contribute to the development of lesions and pain experience in endometriosis as well as surveys of patients have increased interest in testing recently approved formulations containing cannabidiol (CBD) in this patient group. In this review, we summarise data from patient samples and animals models focussed on the pathophysiology of endometriosis, including pathways where CBD has activity. We consider the available formulations of CBD-containing products, their pharmacokinetics (PK), and their use in ongoing clinical trials in endometriosis and other pain conditions.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Investigating bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis (IC/BPS) preclinically is challenging. Various research models have been used to mimic the urothelial barrier closely and replicate the disease. The aim of this review is to discuss preclinical research related to the urothelial barrier in context of IC/BPS. RECENT FINDINGS In vivo models mimic IC/BPS mainly with toxic substances in the urine, with protaminesulfate and proteoglycan deglycolysation resembling a temporary impaired barrier as seen in IC/BPS. This temporary increased permeability has also been found in vitro models. Glycosaminoglycan replenishment therapy has been described, in vivo and in vitro, to protect and enhance recover properties of the urothelium. The roles of immune and neurogenic factors in the pathogenesis of IC/BPS remains relatively understudied. SUMMARY Preclinical studies provide opportunities to identify the involvement of specific pathologic pathways in IC/BPS. For further research is warranted to elucidate the primary or secondary role of permeability, together with inflammatory and neurogenic causes of the disease.

Abstract
Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS) is a chronic disorder characterized by pelvic and/or bladder pain, along with lower urinary tract symptoms that have a significant impact on an individual's quality of life. The diverse range of symptoms and underlying causes in IC/BPS patients pose a significant challenge for effective disease management and the development of new and effective treatments. To facilitate the development of innovative therapies for IC/BPS, numerous preclinical animal models have been developed, each focusing on distinct pathophysiological components such as localized urothelial permeability or inflammation, psychological stress, autoimmunity, and central sensitization. However, since the precise etiopathophysiology of IC/BPS remains undefined, these animal models have primarily aimed to replicate the key clinical symptoms of bladder hypersensitivity and pain to enhance the translatability of potential therapeutics. Several animal models have now been characterized to mimic the major symptoms of IC/BPS, and significant progress has been made in refining these models to induce chronic symptomatology that more closely resembles the IC/BPS phenotype. Nevertheless, it's important to note that no single model can fully replicate all aspects of the human disease. When selecting an appropriate model for preclinical therapeutic evaluation, consideration must be given to the specific pathology believed to underlie the development of IC/BPS symptoms in a particular patient group, as well as the type and severity of the model, its duration, and the proposed intervention's mechanism of action. Therefore, it is likely that different models will continue to be necessary for preclinical drug development, depending on the unique etiology of IC/BPS being investigated.

Abstract
The different definitions of chronic pelvic/visceral pain used by international societies have changed over the years. These differences have a great impact on the way researchers study chronic pelvic/visceral pain. Recently, the role of systemic changes, including the role of the central nervous system, in the perpetuation and chronification of pelvic/visceral pain has gained weight. Consequently, researchers are using animal models that resemble those systemic changes rather than using models that are organ- or tissue-specific. In this review, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using bladder-centric and systemic models, enumerating some of the central nervous system changes and pain-related behaviors occurring in each model. We also present some drawbacks when using animal models and pain-related behavior tests and raise questions about possible, yet to be demonstrated, investigator-related bias. We also suggest new approaches to study chronic pelvic/visceral pain by refining existing animal models or using new ones.

Abstract
Endometriosis is a chronic, hormone-dependent, inflammatory disease, characterized by the presence and growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. It is associated with moderate to severe pelvic and abdominal pain symptoms, subfertility and a marked reduction in health-related quality of life. Furthermore, relevant co-morbidities with affective disorders like depression or anxiety have been described. These conditions have a worsening effect on pain perception in patients and might explain the negative impact on quality of life observed in those suffering from endometriosis-associated pain. Whereas several studies using rodent models of endometriosis focused on biological and histopathological similarities with the human situation, the behavioral characterization of these models was never performed. This study investigated the anxiety-related behaviors in a syngeneic model of endometriosis. Using elevated plus maze and the novel environment induced feeding suppression assays we observed the presence of anxiety-related behaviors in endometriosis-induced mice. In contrast, locomotion or generalized pain did not differ between groups. These results indicate that the presence of endometriosis lesions in the abdominal cavity could, similarly to patients, induce profound psychopathological changes/impairments in mice. These readouts might provide additional tools for preclinical identification of mechanisms relevant for development of endometriosis-related symptoms.

Abstract
Chronic pain induced by endometriosis is a maladaptive pain experienced by half of women with this disease. The lack of pharmacological treatments suitable for the long-term relief of endometriosis-associated pain, without an impact on fertility, remains an urgent unmet need. Progress has been slowed by the absence of a reproducible rodent endometriosis model that fully replicates human physiopathological characteristics, including pain symptoms. Although pain assessment in rodents is a complicated task requiring qualified researchers, the choice of the behavioral test is no less important, since selecting inappropriate tests can cause erroneous data. Pain is usually measured with reflex tests in which hypersensitivity is evaluated by applying a noxious stimulus, yet this ignores the associated emotional component that could be evaluated via non-reflex tests. We conducted a systematic review of endometriosis models used in rodents and the number of them that studied pain. The type of behavioral test used was also analyzed and classified according to reflex and non-reflex tests. Finally, we determined the most used reflex tests for the study of endometriosis-induced pain and the main non-reflex behavioral tests utilized in visceral pain that can be extrapolated to the study of endometriosis and complement traditional reflex tests.

Abstract
Urological chronic pelvic pain syndrome (UCPPS) manifests as pelvic pain with frequent urination and has a 10% prevalence rate without effective therapy. Nanoceria (cerium oxide nanoparticles [CNPs]) were synthesized in this study to achieve potential long-term pain relief, using a commonly used UCPPS mouse model with cyclophosphamide-induced cystitis. Transcriptome sequencing analysis revealed that serpin family B member 2 (SerpinB2) was the most upregulated marker in mouse bladder, and SerpinB2 was downregulated with CNP pretreatment. The transcriptome sequencing analysis results agreed with quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blot analysis results for the expression of related mRNAs and proteins. Analysis of Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets revealed that SerpinB2 was a differentially upregulated gene in human UCPPS. In vitro SerpinB2 knockdown downregulated proinflammatory chemokine expression (chemokine receptor CXCR3 and C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 10) upon treatment with 4-hydroperoxycyclophosphamide. In conclusion, CNP pretreatment may prevent the development of UCPPS, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging and SerpinB2 downregulation may modulate the immune response in UCPPS.

Abstract
Endometriosis affects approximately 190 million women and people assigned female at birth worldwide. It is a chronic, inflammatory, gynecologic disease marked by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus, which in many patients is associated with debilitating painful symptoms. Patients with endometriosis are also at greater risk of infertility, emergence of fatigue, multisite pain, and other comorbidities. Thus, endometriosis is best understood as a condition with variable presentation and effects at multiple life stages. A long diagnostic delay after symptom onset is common, and persistence and recurrence of symptoms despite treatment is common. This review discusses the potential genetic, hormonal, and immunologic factors that lead to endometriosis, with a focus on current diagnostic and management strategies for gynecologists, general practitioners, and clinicians specializing in conditions for which patients with endometriosis are at higher risk. It examines evidence supporting the different surgical, pharmacologic, and non-pharmacologic approaches to treating patients with endometriosis and presents an easy to adopt step-by-step management strategy. As endometriosis is a multisystem disease, patients with the condition should ideally be offered a personalized, multimodal, interdisciplinary treatment approach. A priority for future discovery is determining clinically informative sub-classifications of endometriosis that predict prognosis and enhance treatment prioritization.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to develop and refine a heterologous mouse model of endometriosis-associated pain in which non-evoked responses, more relevant to the patient experience, were evaluated. Immunodeficient female mice (N = 24) were each implanted with four endometriotic human lesions (N = 12) or control tissue fat (N = 12) on the abdominal wall using tissue glue. Evoked pain responses were measured biweekly using von Frey filaments. Non-evoked responses were recorded weekly for 8 weeks using a home cage analysis (HCA). Endpoints were distance traveled, social proximity, time spent in the center vs. outer areas of the cage, drinking, and climbing. Significant differences between groups for von Frey response, climbing, and drinking were detected on days 14, 21, and 35 post implanting surgery, respectively, and sustained for the duration of the experiment. In conclusion, a heterologous mouse model of endometriosis-associated evoked a non-evoked pain was developed to improve the relevance of preclinical models to patient experience as a platform for drug testing.
