Abstract
SCOPE The study aims to investigate the role of the sulfur microbial diet in the survival of ovarian cancer (OC). METHODS AND RESULTS A prospective cohort study is conducted with 703 patients diagnosed with OC between 2015 and 2020. Diet information is collected using a validated food frequency questionnaire. Deaths are ascertained up to March 31, 2021, via the death registry linkage. During the follow-up period (median: 37.2 months, interquartile range: 24.7-50.2 months), 130 deaths are observed. A higher sulfur microbial diet score is significantly associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality among OC patients (tertile 3 vs tertile 1: HR = 1.93, 95% CI = 1.11-3.35). Each 1-standard deviation increment in the sulfur microbial diet score increases the all-cause mortality risk by 33% (95% CI = 1.04-1.71). Stratified analysis shows that significant associations are found in OC patients diagnosed over 50 years of age, with body mass index ≥24 kg m-2 , who changed their diet after diagnosis, or without residual lesions. CONCLUSIONS Adherence to the sulfur microbial diet, characterized by high intakes of red meats and processed meats, and low intakes of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, is associated with poor survival in OC patients.

Accuracy of peritoneal carcinomatosis extent diagnosis by initial FDG PET CT in epithelial ovarian cancer: A multicentre study of the FRANCOGYN research group. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Peritoneal carcinomatosis extent in ovarian cancer is difficult to evaluate by imaging techniques even though it determines the surgical complexity and survival. The aim of this study was to estimate the accuracy of 2-[18F]-fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose (FDG)-PET CT (Positron-emission tomography coupled with Computerised Tomography) performed before any treatment, in the diagnosis of the extent of peritoneal carcinomatosis. We compared these results to per-operative observations/ histology samples obtained during surgery (laparotomy/ laparoscopy). MATERIAL AND METHODS All women managed for an epithelial ovarian cancer between 1st January 2000 and 30th June 2016 were included if they had a FDG PET CT, before initiation of any treatment (neoadjuvant chemotherapy or frontline cytoreductive surgery). The extent of disease on histology samples from cytoreductive surgery/observations during exploratory laparoscopy were compared with the PET CT results. RESULTS Over the study period, 980 women were managed for epithelial ovarian cancer, among them 90 (9.2 %) had a PET CT before any treatment. The diagnostic reliability of an ovarian lesion was 67.8 %, a colon lesion was 61.25 %, a small intestine lesion was 50.6 %, an epiploic lesion was 41.7 %, a pelvic ganglionic invasion was 62.9 % and a paraortic lymph node invasion was 61.5 %. PET CT was less effective than a standard CT examination. CONCLUSION PET CT is not the most effective imaging examination to estimate the extent of peritoneal carcinomatosis during the initial management of an epithelial ovarian cancer.

Abstract
Published experiences related to the prognostic relevance of negative or positive FDG PET/CT in patients treated for ovarian cancer for progression-free survival and overall survival are typically heterogeneous retrospective analyses. Several points have been well defined, these are as follows: (a) there is a correlation between FDG tumor uptake and prognosis; (b) ovarian cancer patients treated by neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy can be divided into responders with reduction in tumor FDG uptake during and after treatment and nonresponders where tumor FDG uptake remains stable or increases after treatment;

Abstract
Ovarian cancer has a high mortality rate among women worldwide. Radiotherapy is considered an effective method of ovarian cancer treatment, however, radioresistance presents a challenge. It is necessary to develop techniques that can increase radiosensitivity in ovarian cancer, and gene therapy is a promising option. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of metadherin (MTDH) silencing on the radiosensitivity of ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer tissues (n=273) and normal ovarian tissues (n=277) were used, as were SKOV3 ovarian cancer cells and the immortalized human ovarian epidermal HOSEpiC cell line. MTT, Transwell and wound-healing assays were performed to assess the proliferation, invasion and migration abilities of the SKOV3 cells. Colony-forming assays and flow cytometry were applied to detect the radiosensitivity and apoptosis of the SKOV3 cells. Nude mouse xenograft models were established to evaluate the effect of MTDH gene silencing on tumor growth and the efficacy of radiotherapy. Ovarian cancer, in tissues and cells, was demonstrated to have a high level of MTDH. Additionally, MTDH silencing was found to significantly inhibit proliferation, migration and invasion, and induce apoptosis in SKOV3 cells, and it was suggested that MTDH depletion significantly increased the sensitivity of the SKOV3 cells to X-ray radiation. MTDH silencing enhanced radiosensitivity and delayed tumor growth in the nude mouse xenograft model. Collectively, the results obtained in the present study suggest the potential role of MTDH silencing as a technique for ameliorating radioresistance in ovarian cancer. The present study provides a promising experimental basis for the improvement of ovarian cancer radiotherapy treatment.

Abstract
Ovarian cancer is one of the most common gynecologic cancers and one of the leading causes of cancer death in women. It is often asymptomatic in early stages, and thus most patients are diagnosed when it is of advanced stage. For these reasons, the role of biomarkers and tomographic imaging is crucial. Fludeoxyglucose F 18 PET/CT is a useful imaging modality in different clinical settings of the disease, overcoming some limits of conventional imaging and influencing prognosis and therapeutic approaches. PET/MR imaging is an emerging modality, and its potential role remains to be explored.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the relationship between maximum standardised uptake value (SUVmax) of ovarian lesions and histopathology subtypes, and their involvement in the response and prognosis of patients with epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC). MATERIAL AND METHODS A retrospective analysis of 31 patients with EOC and 18F-FDG-PET/CT before treatment, including an assessment of the SUVmax of ovarian lesion. Histopathological diagnosis and follow-up was performed. A study was made on the relationship between the SUVmax and histological type (type I and II) and tumour stage, as well as the role of various parameters (SUVmax, histology, stage) on the patient outcomes (complete response [CR], overall survival [OS], disease-free survival [DFS], and disease-free [DF] status, at 12 and 24 months). RESULTS The medium SUVmax in type I lesions was lower than in type II (6.3 and 9.3, respectively; P=.03). A 7.1 cut-off was set for SUVmax in order to identify type II EOC (sensitivity: 77.8%, specificity: 69.2%; AUC=0.748; P=.02). No significant relationship was found between tumour stage and SUVmax. CR was more common in early stages; relative risk (RR) of 1.64; P=.003, as well as in type I tumours and a lower SUVmax. Tumour stage was decisive in DFS (P=.04), LE24m (0.07) and OS (P=.08). Longer DFS and a higher percentage of DF 24m were observed in type I tumours (RR: 1.32; P=.26). CONCLUSIONS SUVmax was related to EOC histology, so could predict the response and prognosis of these patients. No association was found between glycolytic activity of the primary tumor with the response and prognosis.

Abstract
This review article summarizes the role of PET/CT and PET/MRI in ovarian cancer. With regard to the diagnosis of ovarian cancer, the presence of FDG uptake within the ovary of a postmenopausal woman raises the concern for ovarian cancer. Multiple studies show that FDG PET/CT can detect lymph node and distant metastasis in ovarian cancer with high accuracy and may, therefore, alter the management to obtain better clinical outcomes. Although PET/CT staging is superior for N and M staging of ovarian cancer, its role is limited for T staging. Additionally, FDG PET/CT is of great benefit in evaluating treatment response and has prognostic value in patients with ovarian cancer. FDG PET/CT also has value to detect recurrent disease, particularly in patients with elevated serum CA-125 levels and negative or inconclusive conventional imaging test results. PET/MRI may beneficial for tumor staging because MRI has higher soft tissue contrast and no ionizing radiation exposure compared to CT. Some non-FDG PET radiotracers such as 18F-fluorothymidine (FLT) or 11C-methionine (MET) have been studied in preclinical and clinical studies as well and may play a role in the evaluation of patients with ovarian cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Proper planning of intervention and care of ovarian cancer surgery is of outmost importance and involves a wide range of personnel at the departments involved. The aim of this study is to evaluate the introduction of an ovarian surgery classification (COVA) system for facilitating multidisciplinary team (MDT) decisions. MATERIALS AND METHODS Four hundred eighteen women diagnosed with ovarian cancers (n = 351) or borderline tumors (n = 66) were selected for primary debulking surgery from January 2008 to July 2013. At an MDT meeting, women were allocated into 3 groups named "pre-COVA" 1 to 3 classifying the expected extent of the primary surgery and need for postoperative care. On the basis of the operative procedures performed, women were allocated into 1 of the 3 corresponding COVA 1 to 3 groups. The outcome measure was the predictive value of the pre-COVA score compared with the actual COVA performed. RESULTS The MDT meeting allocated 213 women (51%) to pre-COVA 1, 136 (33%) to pre-COVA 2, and 52 (12%) to pre-COVA 3. At the end of surgery, 168 (40%) were classified as COVA 1, 158 (38%) were classified as COVA 2, and 28 (7%) were classified as COVA 3. Traced individually, 212 (51%) patients were correctly preclassified at the MDT meeting and distributed into 110 (52%) COVA 1, 71 (52%) COVA 2, and 17 (32%) COVA 3. Analyzing the subgroup of patients with cancer, 164 (47%) were correctly preclassified. Regarding the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stages, the pre-COVA classification predicted the actual COVA group in 79 (49%) FIGO stages I to IIIB and in 85 (45%) FIGO stages IIIC to IV. CONCLUSIONS The COVA classification system is a simple and useful tool in the MDT setting where specialists make treatment decisions based on advanced technology. The use of pre-COVA classification facilitates well-organized patient care-relevant procedures to be undertaken. Pre-COVA accurately predicts the final COVA in 51% classified women.

Abstract
Membrane-associated RING-CH (MARCH) belongs to the family of RING-CH type E3 ubiquitin ligases. MARCH1 ubiquitinates and downregulates MHC class II expression in APCs and targets major players of the immune system. However, the role of MARCH1 in ovarian cancer has not been elucidated. The present study investigated the function of MARCH1 in ovarian cancer and the potential mechanisms involved. MARCH1 expression was examined in human ovarian cancer tissue specimens by immunohistochemistry. The role of MARCH1 in ovarian cancer cells was assessed by cell proliferation, migration and invasion assays with MARCH1 gene silencing. To investigate the mechanism by which MARCH1 functions, correlation between MARCH1 and the cell signaling pathways were analyzed using a luciferase reporter assay, real-time RT-PCR, western blot assay and immunofluorescence. MARCH1 was found to be overexpressed in ovarian cancer tissues when compared to adjacent non-tumor and normal ovarian tissues. Silencing MARCH1 inhibited SKOV3 cell proliferation, invasion and migration, as well as inhibiting the NF-κB and the Wnt/β‑catenin pathways. MARCH1 functions as a tumor promoter by upregulating the NF-κB and the Wnt/β-catenin pathways, indicating that MARCH1 may be a therapeutic target for patients with ovarian cancer.

Abstract
Background The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the contribution of fluorine-18-fluoro-deoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) to the clinical management and survival outcome of patients (pts) suspected of recurrent ovarian carcinoma, with the hypothesis that early diagnosis of recurrent ovarian cancer may improve overall survival (OS). Methods Fifty-three FDG PET/CT scans were retrospectively analyzed for 42 pts. CT and PET/CT findings were confirmed by imaging and clinical follow-up, and/or pathology, which were considered as the gold standard diagnosis. The treatment plan based on CT staging was compared with that based on PET/CT findings. Medical records were reviewed for pts characteristics, progression-free survival (PFS), and OS. PFS and OS were analyzed using the Cox proportional hazards regression model. Results The final diagnosis of recurrence was established pathologically (n = 16), or by a median clinical follow-up of 6.5 years (range 0.5-7.5) after the PET/CT (n = 37). PET/CT provided a higher detection sensitivity (92.2%, 47/51) than CT (60.8%, 31/51) (p < 0.001). Globally, PET/CT modified the treatment plan in 56.6% (30/53) and in 65.2% (15/23) when the CT was negative prior to PET/CT. In 30 cases, those benefited from a modified treatment plan, these changes led to the intensification of a previous treatment procedure in 83.3% (25/30), and to a reduction in the previous treatment procedure in 16.6% of cases (5/30). The Cox regression multivariate analysis showed that the number of lesions visualized by CT and presence of lung lesions detected by PET/CT were significantly associated with PFS (p = 0.002 and p = 0.035, respectively). Conclusion On account of its impact on treatment planning, and especially in predicting patient outcome, FDG PET is a valuable diagnostic tool for cases of suspected ovarian cancer recurrence.
