Abstract
Using (1.0087±0.0044)×10^{10} J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, the process Ξ^{0}n→Ξ^{-}p is studied, where the Ξ^{0} baryon is produced in the process J/ψ→Ξ^{0}Ξ[over ¯]^{0} and the neutron is a component of the ^{9}Be, ^{12}C, and ^{197}Au nuclei in the beam pipe. A clear signal is observed with a statistical significance of 7.1σ. The cross section of the reaction Ξ^{0}+^{9}Be→Ξ^{-}+p+^{8}Be is determined to be σ(Ξ^{0}+^{9}Be→Ξ^{-}+p+^{8}Be)=(22.1±5.3_{stat}±4.5_{sys}) mb at the Ξ^{0} momentum of 0.818 GeV/c, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. No significant H-dibaryon signal is observed in the Ξ^{-}p final state. This is the first study of hyperon-nucleon interactions in electron-positron collisions and opens up a new direction for such research.

Abstract
The differential cross sections of the Σ^{-}p→Λn reaction were measured accurately for the Σ^{-} momentum (p_{Σ}) ranging from 470 to 650 MeV/c at the J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility. Precise angular information about the Σ^{-}p→Λn reaction was obtained for the first time by detecting approximately 100 reaction events at each angular step of Δcosθ=0.1. The obtained differential cross sections show a slightly forward-peaking structure in the measured momentum regions. The cross sections integrated for -0.7≤cosθ≤1.0 were obtained as 22.5±0.68 [statistical error(stat.)] ±0.65 [systematic error(syst.)] mb and 15.8±0.83(stat)±0.52(syst) mb for 470<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<550 and 550<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<650, respectively. These results show a drastic improvement compared with past measurements of the hyperon-proton scattering experiments. They will play essential roles in updating the theoretical models of the baryon-baryon interactions.

Abstract
The AMADEUS collaboration is investigating the low-energy antikaon interactions with nucleons and nuclei, taking advantage of the lowmomentum antikaons beam provided by the DAΦNE collider at LNF-INFN.
In this work a novel technique is outlined for the measurement of the hyperonnucleon two and three body scattering cross sections. The method consists in producing hyperons by antikaons atomic captures in light nuclear targets, and extrapolating the cross sections from the measurement of the yields of the corresponding elastic final state interactions of the hyperons.
The feasibility of this kind of analyses is shown by comparison of calculated Σ0 production in 4He by K− absorption on three nucleons, with a sample of K−12C absorption measured by AMADEUS in collaboration with KLOE. The feasibility of a dedicated high statistics measurement is discussed.

Abstract
Strange matter is believed to exist in the cores of neutron stars based on simple kinematics. If this is true, then hyperon-nucleon interactions will play a significant part in the neutron star equation of state. Yet, compared to other elastic scattering processes, there is very little data on Λ-N scattering. This experiment utilized the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) detector to study the Λp→Λp elastic scattering cross section in the incident Λ momentum range 0.9-2.0 GeV/c. These are the first data on this reaction since the 1970s. The new cross sections have significantly better accuracy and precision than the existing world data, and the techniques developed here can also be used in future experiments.

Abstract
I review the issues related to the appearance of hyperons in neutron star matter, focusing in particular on the problem of the maximum mass supported by hyperonic equations of state. I discuss the general mechanism that leads to the formation of hyperons in the core of neutron stars and I review the main techniques and many-body methods used to construct an appropriate equation of state to describe the strongly interacting system of hadrons hosted in the core of neutron stars. I outline the consequences on the structure and internal composition of neutron stars and also discuss the possible signatures of the presence of hyperons in astrophysical dynamical systems like supernova explosions and binary neutron star mergers. Finally, I briefly report about the possible important role played by hyperons in the transport properties of neutron star matter and on the consequences of neutron star cooling and gravitational wave instabilities induced by the presence of hyperons.

Abstract
In order to study the interactions and structure of various types of matter, one typically needs to carry out scattering experiments utilizing many different particles as projectiles. Whereas beams of e^{±}, μ^{±}, π^{±}, K^{±}, protons, antiprotons, and various heavy ions have been produced and have enabled many scientific breakthroughs, beams of antineutrons, hyperons (Λ, Σ, and Ξ) and their antiparticles are typically not easy to obtain. Here we point out and investigate a new high-quality source of these particles: a super-J/ψ factory with the capability of accumulating trillions of J/ψ decays each year. In the relevant J/ψ decays, the desired particle is produced together with other final-state particles that can be tagged. This allows accurate determination of the flux and momentum of the projectile, enabling unprecedented precision in the study of the corresponding interactions with a broad range of targets. These novel high-statistics sources of baryons and antibaryons with precisely known kinematics open fresh opportunities for applications in particle and nuclear physics, including antinucleon-nucleon interaction, a nonvalence ss[over ¯] component of the nucleon, (anti)hyperon-nucleon interaction, OZI violation, (multistrange) hypernuclei, exotic light hadron spectroscopy, and many others, as well as calibration of Monte Carlo simulation for hadronic and medical physics.

Abstract
One of the key challenges for nuclear physics today is to understand from first principles the effective interaction between hadrons with different quark content. First successes have been achieved using techniques that solve the dynamics of quarks and gluons on discrete space-time lattices1,2. Experimentally, the dynamics of the strong interaction have been studied by scattering hadrons off each other. Such scattering experiments are difficult or impossible for unstable hadrons3-6 and so high-quality measurements exist only for hadrons containing up and down quarks7. Here we demonstrate that measuring correlations in the momentum space between hadron pairs8-12 produced in ultrarelativistic proton-proton collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) provides a precise method with which to obtain the missing information on the interaction dynamics between any pair of unstable hadrons. Specifically, we discuss the case of the interaction of baryons containing strange quarks (hyperons). We demonstrate how, using precision measurements of proton-omega baryon correlations, the effect of the strong interaction for this hadron-hadron pair can be studied with precision similar to, and compared with, predictions from lattice calculations13,14. The large number of hyperons identified in proton-proton collisions at the LHC, together with accurate modelling15 of the small (approximately one femtometre) inter-particle distance and exact predictions for the correlation functions, enables a detailed determination of the short-range part of the nucleon-hyperon interaction.

Abstract
This Letter presents the first experimental observation of the attractive strong interaction between a proton and a multistrange baryon (hyperon) Ξ^{-}. The result is extracted from two-particle correlations of combined p-Ξ^{-}⊕p[over ¯]-Ξ[over ¯]^{+} pairs measured in p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV at the LHC with ALICE. The measured correlation function is compared with the prediction obtained assuming only an attractive Coulomb interaction and a standard deviation in the range [3.6, 5.3] is found. Since the measured p-Ξ^{-}⊕p[over ¯]-Ξ[over ¯]^{+} correlation is significantly enhanced with respect to the Coulomb prediction, the presence of an additional, strong, attractive interaction is evident. The data are compatible with recent lattice calculations by the HAL-QCD Collaboration, with a standard deviation in the range [1.8, 3.7]. The lattice potential predicts a shallow repulsive Ξ^{-} interaction within pure neutron matter and this implies stiffer equations of state for neutron-rich matter including hyperons. Implications of the strong interaction for the modeling of neutron stars are discussed.

Abstract
We review the role and properties of hyperons in finite and infinite nuclear systems. In particular, we present different production mechanisms of hypernuclei, as well as several aspects of hypernuclear γ-ray spectroscopy, and the weak decay modes of hypernuclei. Then we discuss the construction of hyperon-nucleon and hyperon-hyperon interactions on the basis of the meson-exchange and chiral effective field theories. Recent developments based on the so-called V low k approach and lattice quantum chromodynamics will also be addressed. Finally, we go over some of the effects of hyperons on the properties of neutron and proto-neutron stars with an emphasis on the so-called 'hyperon puzzle', i.e. the problem of the strong softening of the equation of state, and the consequent reduction of the maximum mass, induced by the presence of hyperons, a problem which has become more intriguing and difficult to solve due the recent measurements of approximately 2M ⊙ millisecond pulsars. We discuss some of the solutions proposed to tackle this problem. We also re-examine the role of hyperons on the cooling properties of newly born neutron stars and on the development of the so-called r-mode instability.
