Abstract
A detailed inverse photoemission study unveils the unoccupied electronic structure induced by the adsorption of CuPc and CoPc phthalocyanines on Au(110) reconstructed channels. The different behavior in the two systems is related to the different intermixing of orbitals with the underlying gold states. Broadening of the density of states at the Fermi level is detected after CoPc adsorption, absent in the case CuPc. A detailed comparison with the element-selective X-ray absorption spectroscopy enlightens and complements the IPES results and confirms a surface-driven intermixing of the CoPc orbitals involved in the interaction, with the out-of-plane Co 3dz2 orbital strongly hybridized with the gold electronic states. Moreover, the contribution of the 3d empty states to the IPES data is reported for FePc, CoPc, and CuPc thin films.

Abstract
We investigated the surface and bulk properties of the pristine (110) surface of silver using threshold photoemission by excitation with light of 5.9 eV. Using a momentum microscope, we identified two distinct transitions along the Γ[over ¯]Y[over ¯] direction of the crystal. The first one is a so far unknown surface resonance of the (110) noble-metal surface, exhibiting an exceptionally large bulk character that has so far been elusive in surface sensitive experiments. The second one stems from the well-known bulklike Mahan cone oriented along the ΓL direction inside the crystal but projected onto the (110)-surface cut. The existence of the new state is confirmed by photocurrent calculations, and its character is analyzed.

Abstract
Based on a detailed experimental study of light emission stimulated with a scanning tunneling microscope, we put forward a consistent picture for the atomic-scale contrasts observed to date on noble metal surfaces. Divergent contrasts near various atomic steps and conflicting interpretations of light emission from a model atomic grating, (2 x 1) reconstructed Au(110), are accounted for. The light intensity modulation results from different spatial distributions of the local density of final states in the elastic and inelastic tunneling channels.

Abstract
Introducing reflection anisotropy spectroscopy (RAS) as a new probe for solid-liquid interfaces, we present results for the Au(110)/electrolyte interface which serves as a model system. We demonstrate that RAS is sensitive to surface phase transitions, step morphology, and electronic surface states. Using an empirical approach, the RA spectra are reproduced and features are identified which reflect the known character of the bias voltage driven (2x1) to (1x1) phase transition. RAS is established as an experimental technique to probe the electronic structure of solid-liquid interfaces in real time to study a wide range of interface properties.
