Abstract
We investigate the phase separated inhomogeneous charge and spin states in magnetic oxides. In particular, we study one dimensional harmonic waves and stripe structures. We show that harmonic spin charge waves are unstable and inevitably transform into two or three dimensional structures, while the stripe structures can be stable for certain parameters. Such stripe structures may allow the control of magnetic state with electric field in a magnetic oxide thin film.

Abstract
Low-energy spin excitations were investigated in the static stripe phase of La2-xSrxCuO4 using elastic and inelastic neutron scattering on single crystals. For x=1/8 in which long-range static stripe order exists, an energy gap of E(g)=4 meV exists in the excitation spectrum in addition to strong quasielastic, incommensurate spin fluctuations associated with the static stripes. When x increases, the spectral weight of the spin fluctuations shifts from the quasielastic continuum to the excitation spectrum above E(g). The dynamic correlation length as a function of energy and the temperature evolution of the energy spectrum suggest a phase separation of two distinct magnetic phases in real space.

Abstract
To test the prediction that the dispersion of the magnetic resonance in superconducting YBa2Cu3O(6+x) is similar to magnons in an incommensurate antiferromagnet, we have mapped out the spin dynamics in a stripe-ordered nickelate, La(2-x)SrxNiO4, with x approximately equal to 0.31, using inelastic neutron scattering. We observe spin-wave excitations up to 80 meV emerging from the incommensurate magnetic peaks with a surprisingly large and almost isotropic spin velocity: variant Planck's over 2 pi c(s) approximately 0.32 eV A. A comparison indicates that the inferred spin-excitation spectrum is not, by itself, an adequate model for the magnetic resonance feature of the superconductor.

Abstract
The existence of a stripe-liquid phase in a layered nickelate, La(1.725)Sr(0.275)NiO(4), is demonstrated through neutron scattering measurements. We show that incommensurate magnetic fluctuations evolve continuously through the charge-ordering temperature, although an abrupt decrease in the effective damping energy is observed on cooling through the transition. The energy and momentum dependence of the magnetic scattering are parametrized with a damped-harmonic-oscillator model describing overdamped spin waves in the antiferromagnetic domains defined instantaneously by charge stripes.

Abstract
The growing body of experimental evidence for the existence of complex textures of charges and spins in the high-temperature superconductors has drawn attention to the so-called 'stripe-phase' models as a possible basis for the mechanism of superconductivity in these materials. Such observations have until now been restricted to systems where the texture dynamics are slow or suppressed altogether, and do not include the important case of YBa2Cu3O(7-delta). It seems likely that the dynamic behaviour of stripes, which has been suggested to undergo several phase transitions as a function of temperature, should also be reflected in the lattice properties of the host materials, and this forms the motivation for our present experiments. Specifically, we use MeV helium ion channelling, an ultrafast real-space probe of atomic displacements (with sub-picometre resolution), to probe incoherent lattice fluctuations in YBa2Cu3O(7-delta) as a function of temperature and oxygen doping. We detect lattice fluctuations that are larger than the expected thermal vibration component, and which show anomalies characteristic of the phase transitions anticipated for a dynamic stripe phase. Comparison of our lattice results with single-particle-tunnelling and photoemission data highlights the importance of spin-charge separation phenomena in the copper oxide superconductors.

Abstract
A limiting case of a dynamical stripe state which is of potential significance to cuprate superconductors is considered: a gas of elastic quantum strings in 2+1 dimensions, interacting merely via a hard-core condition. It is demonstrated that this gas always solidifies, by a mechanism which is the quantum analog of the entropic interactions known from soft condensed matter physics.

Abstract
Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy was carried out on (La(1.28)Nd(0.6) Sr(0.12))CuO(4), a model system of the charge- and spin-ordered state, or stripe phase. The electronic structure contains characteristic features consistent with other cuprates, such as the flat band at low energy near the Brillouin zone face. However, the low-energy excitation near the expected d-wave node region is strongly suppressed. The frequency-integrated spectral weight is confined inside one-dimensional segments in the momentum space (defined by horizontal momenta &cjs3539;k(x)&cjs3539; = pi/4 and vertical momenta &cjs3539;k(y)&cjs3539; = pi/4), deviating strongly from the more rounded Fermi surface expected from band calculations. This departure from the two-dimensional Fermi surface persists to a very high energy scale. These results provide important information for establishing a theory to understand the charge and spin ordering in cuprates and their relation with high-temperature superconductivity.
