Hyperbolic Diffusion Functionals on a Ring with Finite Velocity

I study a lattice with periodic boundary conditions using a non-local master equation that evolves over time. I investigate different system regimes using classical theories like Fisher information, Shannon entropy, complexity, and the Cramér-Rao bound. To simulate spatial continuity, I employ a large number of sites in the ring and compare the results with continuous spatial systems like the Telegrapher's equations. The Fisher information revealed a power-law decay of t-ν, with ν=2 for short times and ν=1 for long times, across all jump models. Similar power-law trends were also observed for complexity and the Fisher information related to Shannon entropy over time. Furthermore, I analyze toy models with only two ring sites to understand the behavior of the Fisher information and Shannon entropy. As expected, a ring with a small number of sites quickly converges to a uniform distribution for long times. I also examine the Shannon entropy for short and long times.

Fractional heterogeneous telegraph processes: Interplay between heterogeneity, memory, and stochastic resetting

Fractional heterogeneous telegraph processes are considered in the framework of telegrapher's equations accompanied by memory effects. The integral decomposition method is developed for the rigorous treating of the problem. Exact solutions for the probability density functions and the mean squared displacements are obtained. A relation between the fractional heterogeneous telegrapher's equation and the corresponding Langevin equation has been established in the framework of the developed subordination approach. The telegraph process in the presence of stochastic resetting has been studied, as well. An exact expression for both the nonequilibrium stationary distributions/states and the mean squared displacements are obtained.

Attractor-driven matter

The state of a classical point-particle system may often be specified by giving the position and momentum for each constituent particle. For non-pointlike particles, the center-of-mass position may be augmented by an additional coordinate that specifies the internal state of each particle. The internal state space is typically topologically simple, in the sense that the particle's internal coordinate belongs to a suitable symmetry group. In this paper, we explore the idea of giving internal complexity to the particles, by attributing to each particle an internal state space that is represented by a point on a strange (or otherwise) attracting set. It is, of course, very well known that strange attractors arise in a variety of nonlinear dynamical systems. However, rather than considering strange attractors as emerging from complex dynamics, we may employ strange attractors to drive such dynamics. In particular, by using an attractor (strange or otherwise) to model each particle's internal state space, we present a class of matter coined "attractor-driven matter." We outline the general formalism for attractor-driven matter and explore several specific examples, some of which are reminiscent of active matter. Beyond the examples studied in this paper, our formalism for attractor-driven dynamics may be applicable more broadly, to model complex dynamical and emergent behaviors in a variety of contexts.

A one-dimensional three-state run-and-tumble model with a 'cell cycle'

We study a one-dimensional three-state run-and-tumble model motivated by the bacterium Caulobacter crescentus which displays a cell cycle between two non-proliferating mobile phases and a proliferating sedentary phase. Our model implements kinetic transitions between the two mobile and one sedentary states described in terms of their number densities, where mobility is allowed with different running speeds in forward and backward direction. We start by analyzing the stationary states of the system and compute the mean and squared-displacements for the distribution of all cells, as well as for the number density of settled cells. The latter displays a surprising super-ballistic scaling [Formula: see text] at early times. Including repulsive and attractive interactions between the mobile cell populations and the settled cells, we explore the stability of the system and employ numerical methods to study structure formation in the fully nonlinear system. We find traveling waves of bacteria, whose occurrence is quantified in a non-equilibrium state diagram.

Efficiency of random search with space-dependent diffusivity

We address the problem of random search for a target in an environment with a space-dependent diffusion coefficient D(x). Considering a general form of the diffusion differential operator that includes Itô, Stratonovich, and Hänggi-Klimontovich interpretations of the associated stochastic process, we obtain and analyze the first-passage-time distribution and use it to compute the search efficiency E=〈1/t〉. For the paradigmatic power-law diffusion coefficient D(x)=D_{0}|x|^{α}, where x is the distance from the target and α<2, we show the impact of the different interpretations. For the Stratonovich framework, we obtain a closed-form expression for E, valid for arbitrary diffusion coefficient D(x). This result depends only on the distribution of diffusivity values and not on its spatial organization. Furthermore, the analytical expression predicts that a heterogeneous diffusivity profile leads to a lower efficiency than the homogeneous one with the same average level within the space between the target and the searcher initial position, but this efficiency can be exceeded for other interpretations.
