Enhancement of the amplitude and lifetime of photoinduced space-charge fields in multidomain ferroelectric crystals

Induced motion of domain walls in multiferroics

We study the dynamics of a 180° domain wall of ab-type in external alternating magnetic and electrical fields in magnetic materials with linear magnetoelectric interaction. We discuss the features of oscillatory and drift motion of domain wall and stripe structure depending on the parameters of external fields and characteristics of the material.

Fixed three-dimensional holographic images

Three-dimensional holograms were recorded in a cerium-doped, strontium barium niobate (SBN:75) photorefractive crystal. These holograms are shown to not degrade after more than one week of continuous readout and to reconstruct reproductions of the original object with an observable field of view of approximately 35 degrees.

Light-induced removal of 180 degrees ferroelectric domains in Rh:BaTiO3

We show that optically-induced photorefractive space-charge fields can remove 180 degrees ferroelectric domains in rhodium-doped barium titanate. The cross section of the domains must be small (less than 100 microns) for this process to occur.

Electrical fixing of 1000 angle-multiplexed holograms in SBN:75

We have demonstrated electrical fixing of 1000 angle-multiplexed holograms in a 1-cm(3)volume Ce-doped SBN:75 crystal. A revealing procedure yielded an average diffraction efficiency of 0.005% for each hologram, with approximately 20% variation. The erasure resistance of the fixed gratings was verified.

Analysis of ferroelectric 180 degrees -domain structures in BaTiO(3) by use of second-harmonic scattering

We present a method of determining the distribution of sizes of ferroelectric 180 degrees domains in BaTiO(3), using second-harmonic scattering. We find that the domains are rods with approximately square cross sections that extend from the -c to the +c face of the crystal, with widths ranging from 2 to 150 mum.
