Supersymmetry and the anomalous anomalous magnetic moment of the muon

Physics at the [Formula: see text] linear collider

A comprehensive review of physics at an [Formula: see text] linear collider in the energy range of [Formula: see text] GeV-3 TeV is presented in view of recent and expected LHC results, experiments from low-energy as well as astroparticle physics. The report focusses in particular on Higgs-boson, top-quark and electroweak precision physics, but also discusses several models of beyond the standard model physics such as supersymmetry, little Higgs models and extra gauge bosons. The connection to cosmology has been analysed as well.

Sneutrino-antisneutrino mixing and neutrino mass in anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking scenario

In supersymmetric models with nonzero Majorana neutrino mass, the sneutrino and antisneutrino mix, which may lead to same-sign dilepton signals in future collider experiments. We point out that the anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking scenario has a good potential to provide an observable rate of such signals for the neutrino masses suggested by the atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillations. It is noted also that the sneutrino-antisneutrino mixing can provide much stronger information on some combinations of the neutrino masses and mixing angles than the neutrino experiments.

Correlation of B(s) --> mu(+)mu(-) and (g - 2)(mu) in minimal supergravity

We analyze the decay mode B(s)-->mu(+)mu(-) in minimal supergravity (mSUGRA). We find that the recently measured excess in (g-2)(mu), if interpreted within mSUGRA, is correlated with a substantial enhancement of the branching ratio Beta(B(s)-->mu(+)mu(-)): if (g-2)(mu) exceeds the standard model prediction by 4 x 10(-9), Beta(B(s)-->mu(+)mu(-)) is larger by a factor of 10-100 and within reach of Run-II of the Tevatron. Thus the search for B(s)-->mu(+)mu(-) is a stringent test of the GUT scale relations of mSUGRA. An observation of B(s)-->mu(+)mu(-) at the Tevatron implies a mass of the lightest SUSY Higgs boson below 120 GeV. B(s)-->mu(+)mu(-) can also significantly probe SO(10) SUSY GUT models.

Model-independent analysis of muon g(mu) - 2

We consider possible physics beyond the standard model that could account for the large recently reported [Muon g-2 Collaboration, H. N. Brown et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 86, 2227 (2001)] effect in g(mu)-2. If the underlying theory can be treated perturbatively, then the only possibilities are models that contain particles that yield "direct" contributions, e.g., supersymmetric models, models with unexpectedly light leptoquarks, or with a rather exotic heavy vector boson. If the underlying theory involves strong interactions, as in technicolor models, then the discrepancy could be accounted for by a variety of mechanisms.

Neutrino mass, muon anomalous magnetic moment, and lepton flavor nonconservation

If the generating mechanism for neutrino mass is to account for both the newly observed muon anomalous magnetic moment as well as the present experimental bounds on lepton flavor nonconservation, then the neutrino mass matrix should be almost degenerate and the underlying physics should be observable at future colliders. We illustrate this assertion with two specific examples, and show that gamma(mu;-->egamma)/m5(mu), gamma(tau-->egamma)/m5tau, and gamma(tau-->(mu)gamma)/m5tau are in the ratio ((Delta)m2)2sol/2, ((Delta)m2)2sol/2, and ((Delta)m2)2atm, respectively, where the (Delta)m2 parameters are those of solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillations and bimaximal mixing has been assumed.

Upper limits on sparticle masses from g -- 2 and the possibility for discovery of supersymmetry at colliders and in dark matter searches

We analyze the implications of the new physics effect seen in the g -- 2 Brookhaven measurement and show that if the effect arises from supersymmetry, then the sign of the Higgs mixing parameter mu is determined to be positive in the standard sign convention. Further, analyses within the minimal supergravity model show that the Brookhaven result leads to upper limits on the universal gaugino and scalar masses of m(1/2) < or = 800 GeV and m(0) < or = 1.5 TeV for tan beta < or = 55. Our analysis strongly suggests that supersymmetry via production of sparticles must be found at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Further, sgn(mu) positive is favorable for the discovery of supersymmetric cold dark matter.
